ELODIE'S POV
I stared intently at my reflection in the mirror, a proud smile dancing on my lips. The magnificent ball wedding gown adorned my figure perfectly, as if it had been designed exclusively for me. Today was the day I had long awaited, the day I would finally become Alastair's wife. The thought alone made me feel like I was on top of the world.
Alastair and I have been dating since we found out we were mates. Even before then, I've always had a crush on him. He was my childhood friend and the only boy who showed me kindness. When I turned eighteen and found out he was my mate, I was overjoyed but at the same time afraid. I wasn't sure he was going to accept me considering I was just a weak wolf.
My father is an Alpha and so is my mother but I was nothing like them. I was weak and useless. I could barely even transform.
My joy knew no bounds when Alastair told me he felt the same way for me and marked me as my mate that night. He was the only man I willingly surrendered my body, soul, and mind to and I don't regret it.
I was already imagining how our married life would be. We will go on our honeymoon, travel to a lot of places together, and spend a lot of romantic dates and passionate nights together. Then we will have kids, a boy and a girl. I will name our baby boy Eero and our baby girl Sere...
The door of my room barged open snapping me out of my fantasy. I looked up and my smile broadened when I saw my twin sister, Eloise. We weren't identical twins and Eloise was older than me with just a day.
She was my best friend and everything. Eloise was the bright, smart, and beautiful twin, loved and adored by everyone around her. In contrast, I was the lesser twin, average in every aspect of my existence. Eloise was strong and an Alpha female just like my parents. She was respected by all but I was nothing but a mockery.
My parents loathed me and treated me as a burden. And everyone hated the sight of me. Eloise got everything she wanted and, I was told to be grateful that I am even part of the family; I should be grateful that I wasn't killed the moment I was born because of how weak I was.
But none of this made me envious of Eloise. She was someone I trusted and relied on more than myself. I tell her everything, every one of my secrets.
She would always defend me in front of everyone. Whenever my parents started violently abusing me, she would always rescue me. She never for once looked down on me. I owe her my life and will willingly give my life for her if need be because she is my backbone. I am still alive today all thanks to her. Or so I thought.
"Sis, is this really you?" Eloise gasped, her voice filled with awe as she approached. She took my hands in hers, her touch filled with love and sincerity.
"You look breathtaking, gorgeous, stunning, beautiful!" she exclaimed and tears flooded my eyes. Did I forget to add that she was my number one fan?
"Don't cry, sis. You'll ruin your makeup"
"Eloise..." I began, fighting back the tears that threatened to spill over.
"I can't believe you're getting married today, Sis, especially to the man of your dreams"
"I know, right?" I chuckled in response.
"Thank you so much, Eloise, for always believing in me. If it weren't for your support, this day wouldn't have come,"
"No, Sis. I didn't do anything. You're a kind, sweet, and loving soul, so of course any man would fall head over heels for you. You and Alastair are meant to be"
I nodded and sniffed back my tears.
"I'm sure he won't be able to take his eyes off you today," Eloise teased playfully, causing my cheeks to flush with embarrassment.
"You think so?" I bit my lip and looked down shyly, feeling both nervous and excited.
"Of course! Even I can't take my eyes off you, let alone him. I can only imagine how amazing your wedding night is going to be. He will devour you, I'm sure of that" She added, causing my blush to intensify.
"Oh before I forget. I made something for you" She took out a box of cupcakes and I beamed.
"When we were kids, Mom used to say that taking a bite of your favorite dessert on a joyous occasion is a sign of good luck. And since cupcakes are your absolute favorite, I made them, especially for you," she explained with a warm smile.
I chuckled happily. She knows me too well.
"Why don't you feed me?"
"Of course" She smiled broadly.
"Hmm. So delicious" I moaned.
"Congratulations, Elodie. I wish you nothing but a lifetime of happiness in your marriage." She cupped my face and caressed it lovingly.
"Thank you."
"You can finish the cupcakes if you want. Don't worry about your makeup, I will redo it if it gets smudged."
Without thinking twice, I took the box and did justice to all the cupcakes. "That was seriously the best cupcake I've ever had in my entire life," I exclaimed with a grin.
"Of course it should be. I made it with so much love," Eloise replied, her smile shifting into a devious smirk. I decided to shrug it off. I must be seeing things. Little did I know that in a short moment, everything would change.
It all began with an excruciating pain in the depths of my stomach, intensifying with each passing second as if my intestines were being devoured. I cried out to Eloise who just stood and watched. I turned to the mirror, horrified at the gruesome sight of blood streaming down my nose and eyes.
"Elodie, are you ok? What's going on?" I could sense the sarcasm in her voice as her worried look turned into a satisfactory grin.
"Eloise, please help me," I pleaded, reaching out as I crumpled to the floor.
"Somebody please help! My sister is dying!" She mocked.
"Tsk. Pathetic" She hissed, spitting in disgust.
"Finally I can stop with the acting. It was starting to get on my nerves." She squatted to my level. "Did you seriously believe that I cared about, Elodie?" She scoffed. "A weak, pathetic, and naive thing like you?"
"It was all nothing but an act, my dear sister. Let me tell you the truth, Elodie. I loathed you from the very first moment you were bone, even more than mother and father. Do you know what it feels like having to share everything with you? I was more than enough so there was no use for you but you had to come into this world to compete with me."
"But then you crossed the line when you tried to take my man from me. I couldn't deal with you anymore."
Hearing that from her, tears streamed down my face.
"But... I... never knew you had feelings for Alastair." Was all I could mumble. "If you had told me I would have left him for you."
"Why? So everyone will see you as the loving sister who gave up her love for the happiness of her sister? I loved him long before you did. I'm the one who deserves him!"
"But he doesn't love you!" I snapped.
She busted into a mocking laugh. "Is that so?" She stood up. "Then my second surprise is going to hurt even more."
Immediately, the door opened and Alastair walked in. I beamed greatly. Thank goodness he was here. I thought I was going to die.
"Alastair..." I called out and tried to stand but I couldn't. I expected him to freak out seeing the state I was in. But the moment he saw me, a wide grin drew up his lips and walked passed me like I was nothing.
I watched in horror as he approached Eloise and pulled her to himself before claiming her lips in a hot kiss. My brain and the entire nerves in my body went numb.
"I missed you so much, my love."
"I missed you more, Alastair."
"I'm really sorry I had to pretend to be in love with this leech. It must have been hard for you watching me bang her all the time."
"It doesn't matter so far I am the one you truly love. From today onwards we can spend as much night as we want together and we don't have to do it in secret anymore."
No. This can't be true. I must be dreaming. Someone, please wake me up from this nightmare! How did I not know? How did I not notice? When did everything go wrong?
"How could you?" I broke down in tears. "How could you two do this to me?"
"Oh! And the corpse is still talking" Eloise hissed with an eye roll.
"What did I ever do to deserve this?"
Alastair rolled his eyes before walking up to me and squatting to my level. "Did you seriously think that I would be in love with a weak, pathetic thing like you? You must have been so stupid to believe that!"
For the first time as I stared into Alastair's eyes, all I saw was hatred and disgust. My sight disgusted him.
"Then why pretend to love me? If you hated me this much, you should have acted like everyone else! Why?!"
"So I can get close to Eloise and of course, the deed. It was so hard to get you to sign that shit!"
"Six good months, Alastair. It took us six good months to get her to do it." Eloise chipped in.
What are these two even talking about?
"And now that we have, you are of no use to us anymore. Now let me get this whole thing over with,"
"I, Alastair Frostbourne, reject you, Elodie as my mate!"
I didn't know which one hurt the most, the poison that was slowly killing me or the pain from the rejection. It was overwhelming like my life was slowly slipping away from me.
I couldn't believe my sister and the man I gave everything to would do this to me. It hurts, so fucking much, like my heart was being ripped out of my chest. But I don't want to die!
This isn't fair! Why did I have to be born weak? Was any of that my fault? What did I ever do to deserve this? Who did I offend? All I wanted was a happy life. Was that too much to ask?
"She's taking too long to die. Just kill her off already" Eloise hissed. Alastair grabbed a gun and without thinking twice, he shot me, the bullet piercing right through my chest.
I stared at my sister and Alastair one last time and anger surged through me. My whole body vibrated in rage. I gave them everything I had and they didn't hesitate to stab me in the back. I want to make them pay. I want to ruin their life just like they did mine! I want to ruin everyone who ruined me!
But who am I kidding? My life is already slipping away in my very eyes and there's nothing I can do about it. To whoever is reading this, my name is Elodie Moonstone and this is a story of how I died.
This is the end...
**ELODIE'S POV** I finished dressing up for tonight when a knock came, and Rhea entered. "Your Majesty. I'm here to check if you're..." "Oh my God!" Her eyes dilated greatly the moment they landed on me, and she paused in her tracks. "Your Majesty, is this really you?!" She yelled, perplexed. "Permit me to say this, but you are looking, muah! Tantalizing, breathtaking, gorgeous!" She clamored, and I was already chuckling to myself. How is she always so energetic? "I swear His Majesty won't be able to take his eyes off you, and neither will any of the men attending this party. You are going to wreck this party!" I found myself smiling broadly at what she said. I can't help but imagine what it will feel like to have His Majesty stare at me like I am the most precious gem he has seen. Ah! What am I even thinking? "Where is the Royal stylist? I need to give her a huge tip for this. She did splendid!" "Oh, she already left." "Huh, that early?" "Well, I asked her not to bother. An
**EROS' POV** A knock came on my study room, and my right-hand man, Viktor, entered. "Your Majesty," he bowed. "You demanded my presence." With eyes fixed on the letter I was holding, I demanded, "The pack sent a letter again. There was another mysterious death. What exactly is going on?" "Well, Your Majesty, in two weeks, six wolves in total have been found dead, not only in Midnight Pack but in other packs as well. Their autopsy proves that they all died of the same cause, poisoning. An excessive amount of poison was found in their bodies." I frowned. "Wasn't this poison banned 30 years ago? How could anyone have gotten access to it?" "That is what I'm still figuring out, Your Majesty." "Be quick about it then. I'm not in for any more mysterious deaths. And make sure no one else learns about this. I don't want my people living in fear." "Yes, Your Majesty." "The main reason I called you here is because of the Queen's birthday ceremony. Move the time of the main ceremony to m
ELODIE'S POV I stared at Rhea my mouth agape in shock. She... she is treating my wound? The worried look on her face, her little scolding, and the way she was carefully treating the cut felt like she was my elder sister taking care of me.I didn't realize I was smiling until,"What are you smiling about?" She glared, and I let out a slight chuckle."Nothing. Thank you.""Whatever." She let go of my hand. "Next time be careful and don't be so clumsy. I won't bother if it happens again. I will just let you bleed till whenever you...""Ah! I think I also cut another of my fingers.""Which one is it? Which one is bleeding?" She immediately grabbed my hand, scanning all of my fingers. I started laughing."Oh. So you find this amusing, eh?""Wait till I chop off all of your fingers for real!""I'm sorry." I tried to hold back my laugh."You're still laughing." She glared."I'm sorry, I'll stop." I let out a deep breath. "Thank you, Your Highness.""Jeez, what the heck is with the formal a
ELODIE'S POV I slowly opened my eyes to the rays of the sun hitting my face. I let out a slight groan. I was so weak that I couldn't even get up from the bed. How long have I been sleeping?I felt something warm and hard on my hand. I glanced over only to see His Majesty holding my hand firmly, his head resting on the edge of the bed.Did he spend the night...beside me?Memories of yesterday came flooding.I hated rain since I was little; it was a constant reminder that in this cruel world, I was alone. While kids my age were busy playing out in the rain with either their friends or parents, I was locked in my room, watching them. I had no one to rely on, no one to pour out the heavy thoughts weighing my mind. Rainy days are my loneliest days. But yesterday, for the first time, someone came for me and stayed with me through my loneliest day. While I was ranting with nothing I said made sense, he stayed and listened. He protected me from the cold and held me close. He offered to help
EROS' POV The first time I set my eyes on Elodie was on her eighteenth birthday. The entire kingdom had gathered to celebrate the night of the Blood Moon, a festival held once every year. On that day, many would become full adults, find and mark their destined mate. As the king, it was my duty to host the festival. While everyone was busy looking for their life mate and anticipating the ethereal feeling of finding a mate, I was bored to hell. I have attended this festival thousands of times, and nothing about it was interesting or euphoric for me. While the main festival was yet to start, I left to spend my time in solitude. As I made my way toward the garden, a faint smell brushed through my nose and snapped me out of my thoughts. It was a sweet, gentle, and captivating scent—an enchanting fragrance of sweet olive that caught me off guard. It sent a certain sensation down me that made me pause in my tracks. Like a rope was fastened around my neck, the scent pulled me closer. The cl
Eros stood before me, shielding me from the cold rain with an umbrella and looking down at me. Our gaze locked, and I saw many emotions flash through his red eyes. "You must think I'm pathetic, right?" My weak, quivering voice spoke. "I know I am worse than pathetic. You must be wondering how someone like me can ever be useful to you as your Luna." "But all I want to know is why. Why would my family do this to me? My parents, the people who brought me into this world. My own mother." "What did I ever do to them? I was only five, so what could I possibly have known or done to them that made them kill me like this? Is a mere deed stronger than the love of parents, the love of a mother? Then how could my mother do this to me?" Nothing I was blabbering was making sense, but I just wanted to blurt out everything the way it was weighing down my heart. I didn't hold back the tears and let them fall freely as I blabbered. "Why? Why me? Why do I have to go through all of this? All I've eve
