ELODIE'S POV
Everyone stopped what they were doing, silence engulfing the hall. Eloise, Alastair, and my parents glared at me like I was about to do something stupid.
"First of all, I would like to thank everyone who honored our invitation to join us on this joyous occasion. I really appreciate your efforts."
"Now down to the announcement..."
"I want to inform you all and everyone that I, Elodie Moonstone, no longer want to go ahead with this engagement. I no longer want to marry Alpha Alastair and so I am cutting off my engagement to him." I removed the ring on my finger and dropped it to the ground in front of Alastair who had gone pale in shock.
"So with that being said, this engagement party is over!"
Without staying back, I stormed out of the hall. When I got outside, I finally let out the breath I was holding, my heart hammering against my chest. I was still trying to calm my racing heart when I heard someone calling out to me. Knowing it was Alastair, my anger started building up once again.
"Elodie what is the meaning of this?" He demanded, now standing before me.
"How can you call off our engagement in front of everyone?!"
"Are you worried that I called off our engagement or because I did it in front of an audience?"
"Both! How dare you humiliate me like that in front of a large number of people?!" He hollered, his real self surfacing. Almost immediately, he caught himself and went back to pretending.
"Babe, did I do anything wrong? Are you angry with me? I know you didn't mean what you said so please calm down and tell me what's wrong"
I scoffed, annoyed to the highest order.
"Love, talk to me" He made to hold my hand but I slapped it off.
"Tell me, Love. Are you angry because I didn't check up on you for weeks, hmm?"
No Elodie you have to calm down. You can't let him get into you.
"It wasn't my intention, Babe. I was just so busy running around for our engagement party and wedding because I wanted to give you the best grand wedding of your life. That is why I haven't called for weeks. Please forgive me, Babe"
"I promise I will make it up to you. You know I love you so much. I can't live without..."
"Which part of the announcement did you not understand, Alastair?"
"I no longer want to marry you, it's as simple as that"
"No, Elodie. You can't do that to me. I will die if you're not in my..."
"Cut that crap, Alastair." I snorted.
"Shouldn't you be happy that I am finally giving you the chance to be with the woman you truly love?"
"What? But you're the woman I love..."
"Do you seriously think I don't know that you've been in love with someone else all these while?"
Alastair's face turned pale in shock.
"Wh...what? What are you saying, Babe? How can you say something like that?" He stammered, trying to hide his shock. "I'm sure you're saying all of these out of anger. I know you don't mean any of what you're saying."
I grabbed his collar and hurled him to stare me dead in the eyes.
"Look at me Alastair" My burning eyes pierced into his. "Does it look like I don't mean what I just said? Listen very attentively to me"
"I don't love you anymore. The only feeling I have towards you is nothing but rage. I loathe you with every single vein running through me Alastair and I swear with my life, I am going to ruin you." I let go of his collar and turned to leave when he grabbed my hands.
"You can't do this, Elodie. I am still your mate! I marked you which means you belong to me!"
"Mate?" I let out a painful scoff and flung his hand off. "You already killed our mate bond when you went around sleeping with another woman. So cut that crap, Alastair!" I hollered in rage.
Almost then, I saw Eloise approaching.
"You came just at the right time, Eloise."
"What's going on, Sis?"
"Let me get this whole thing over with once and for all."
"I, Elodie Moonstone, no longer accept you as my mate, Alastair. Before the heavens, I reject you and everything we once shared. I don't want to have anything to do with you anymore. It's over." To my surprise, I didn't feel any pain, not even the slightest of it.
But my heart was hurting from the pain of the betrayal. I stormed out of their presence to somewhere isolated. My entire body was trembling uncontrollably, my heart hammering hard against my chest. All of a sudden, my chest tightened and I couldn't breathe anymore. I tried gasping for air while trying to calm my racing heart but nothing was working.
I was having an episode of panic attack and I'm not even with my medicine. The tears I've been trying to hold back finally tumbled down freely.
"I can't breathe. Somebody...please...help...me" I was starting to feel dizzy. "I... can't... fucking breathe. Someone...Anyone, please..."
Just when I was about to slump to the floor, someone caught me and pulled me to himself. I couldn't see his face because I was starting to lose consciousness but I could tell it was a man with how broad his chest was.
"Elodie, you have to calm down. Take a deep breath, okay?" His faint voice came as he cupped my face. "Elodie, look at me. Open your eyes and look at me!"
"Take deep breaths, one at a time. Breath in...out" When he saw I wasn't responding, he pulled me into a hug.
"Everything is going to be fine, Elodie. You will be fine. Just calm down. I won't let any harm come to you, I promise. You're safe right here with me." He patted my head. I didn't know who he was but his assuring words made me calm down.
"I will make every one of them pay for making you go through this. You're mine, Elodie and no one dare hurt what's mine." That was the last thing I heard before darkness engulfed me.
ELODIE'S POVI woke up to find myself lying in my room with Eloise seated beside me. How did I get here?"Sis, you're finally awake!" Eloise exclaimed, her voice trembling with emotion, as she reached out to hold my hand. I pulled my hand away, avoiding her touch."You scared me, Elodie," She whispered, her voice choked with tears. "When I found you passed out on the ground, I was terrified. I thought something terrible had happened to you." "How did I get here?" "Don't you remember? I was the one who brought you here. I saw you passed out on the ground and..."She is lying. I can vividly remember being cradled in the arms of a man and even though I can't remember his face, I can still recall the assuring words he told me while trying to help me calm down.I got down from the bed and headed to the bathroom without waiting for the lying bitch to finish with her sob story. Minutes later, I emerged, dressed and ready to face whatever awaited me. Eloise, still lingering in my room, reac
**ELODIE'S POV**I entered the VIP ward where my grandfather was staying and saw him lying almost lifelessly on the hospital bed."Grandpa..." Tears welled up in my eyes, seeing the condition he was in.Grandpa was my favorite person, the only one I loved and trusted aside from Eloise. He was the only person in my family who truly loved me. My favorite time of the year was whenever he visited. I was his favorite granddaughter."Elodie, my dear. Come here," His weak voice ushered me in, and I complied."Why are you crying, my dear?""Grandpa, Papa said that you're not going to survive. Does that mean I won't see you again? I don't want you to leave, Grandpa. If you go, then I will join you," I mumbled, tears rolling down freely."You silly girl. Don't say stuff like that," He chuckled through his pain. "Come closer, Elodie. There's something important I want to tell you before I go.""What is it, Grandpa?" I sniffed back my tears."Listen very attentively to me. There's a deed under yo
**ELODIE'S POV**The moment I set foot into the house, Eloise came rushing to me and pulled me into a tight hug."Sis, I've missed you so much. I thought I would never get to see you again," she mumbled in tears and pouted. "I've been telling you to come over, but you wouldn't. Why?""Do I seriously have to deal with this girl? She is the least of my problems right now. It's been a week since my encounter with the Lycan King, and he hasn't responded since then. Did I not convince him enough?""Elodie, are you even listening to me?" Eloise snapped me out of my thoughts."I'm sorry, what were you saying?""What's wrong, Sis? You've been lost in thoughts since you came. Is something bothering you? You know you can tell me anything.""It's nothing, Eloise. Something has been on my mind lately. I just need some time to gather my thoughts. So don't worry, I'm fine." I held her hand and flashed her a big smile."How have you been? I've missed you. I didn't want to come over because... you kn
**ELODIE'S POV**Just when I thought all hope was gone, when I believed my second life was going to be ruined by these people again, a hoarse voice I recognized demanded."What is going on here?"I didn't need to be told who it was. It was him, the Lycan King. He came!"Announcing the presence of His Majesty, the King in the Moonstone household. Greetings to all of you.""Your Majesty," everyone present greeted with a low bow. I turned swiftly and saw him standing across. The joy that swelled up inside me knew no bounds, and without thinking twice, I ran to him. I wanted to hug him but snapped myself out. We aren't even close, so why should I hug him?But seeing how everyone in my family glared at me, daring me to get any closer, I circled my arms around his waist and hugged him. For a split second, I felt his body stiffen."Your Majesty, you came! I thought you wouldn't make it on time." I mumbled loud enough for my family to hear. I can already imagine the horror on their faces. But
**ELOISE'S POV**I paced my room to and fro, gnawing at my finger in pure frustration. I've already turned my room upside down out of anger.I still can't believe it. No, I will never believe it. That Elodie would do something like that to me. How dare she?! How dare she stab me in the back like this?!When did Elodie change this much? How did she slip out of my grip and control? I was the one in control of her life since we were kids. She depended on me. She was nothing without me! She couldn't even breathe without me!She was fragile, a weak, pathetic wolf. She was naive to the highest order. She was gullible, she was stupid and useless. I could easily break her and remold her however I wanted. Then what changed everything? I noticed something was wrong when she woke up two weeks ago. The way she drastically changed, I still don't understand. What suddenly gave her the courage she never had to break off her engagement just when I was about to get her to tell me about the deed and fi
ELODIE'S POV His reaction was nothing like I had expected. He let go of my waist and turned his back on me."You are free to prepare your own food. You don't need my or anyone's permission. Just ask the maids to give you the space and time you need."I beamed slightly."You can leave," he mumbled and went back to his seat."Thank you for understanding, Your Majesty," I bowed and happily left the room. I didn't expect he would understand. I thought he was trying to judge me just like everyone else.He was just worried about me. I smiled to myself but quickly slapped myself out of it. No, I'm sure that's not the case. The Lycan King can never be worried about me. He was just concerned for his reputation. Yes, that must be it.THE NEXT DAYI was just about finishing breakfast when one of the guards entered."Your Majesty," he immediately bowed. "I apologize for interrupting you, but there's a crazy man outside creating a ruckus. He is demanding to see you.""Who?""He said he is Alastai
ELODIE'S POVI froze on the spot, with eyes widened in horror and still trying to process what was going on as Alastair's lips played with mine. All of a sudden, I went out of breath, and my chest tightened. I tried to push him away, but I couldn't move my arms. My whole body felt numb. His arms circled my waist and squeezed me even closer.I can't breathe. I can't fucking breathe. No. I need to push him away. I have to...A hand out of nowhere grabbed me and pulled me away from Alastair's grip. The first thing that snapped me back to reality was the hard punch that was sent right to Alastair's face, which had him hurling to the ground. I could finally breathe again. I looked up to see who was holding me close, and it was none other than Khoas. His red eyes blazed in rage as they scowled at Alastair, who was still trying to get up from the floor. Fear gripped me, seeing how deadly his eyes had become."Your... Majesty...""Lock this bastard in the dungeon. I will deal with him later,"
ELODIE'S POVI sat with my eyes closed, the makeup artist delicately applying the finishing touches to my face. Memories of the horror from my previous wedding flooded my mind. The mere thought of it made goosebumps fill my skin. But there was something else bothering me.Everything happening today was mirroring that day. Same gown, same setting, same words from the artist. It felt like a twisted déjà vu, like I'm reliving that day again but in a different place and under a different circumstance.Had changing the past only shifted the course, not altered the outcome? Am I still going to die on my wedding day but maybe in a different way? But I didn't die until 6 months later. Am I going to die sooner because I altered what was supposed to happen? No! Something isn't right here! Now that I think about it, despite knowing everything that was going to happen, certain things were out of my control, like being locked up and almost forced to marry Alastair. If I escape death today, will
