Laya POV

Groban’s words kept running through my head over and over again, vampire and werewolf, shape shifter, what did that mean? I had always been told that hybrids were a virus, we were the reason everything had changed.

I rubbed my hands together as I sat on the rug by the fire, watching the flames flickering intently as his words kept rushing through my mind. Mythical legend

The words were meant to have meaning but they didn’t, nothing Groban said made any sense, maybe he was wrong I mean, hybrids had all but been exterminated from the face of the earth. I had never been told how we came to be, exactly what a hybrid even was, I was just always told that we were the problem and we should never have existed.

Groban had been called away by his clan leader a short while ago, he told me to keep the door of the cabin locked and that he wouldn’t be long. It wasn’t safe for me to go outside, not with people like Da

The door swung open and I gasped as I looked up from where I was still sitting on the floor of the kitchen, eyes wide and puffy from all the crying, only to see four figures standing in the doorway grinning fiercely at me. My eyes quickly diverted toward the floor as my breathing sped up. Dax stood in the doorway with three other men I didn’t recognize, “Come on boys we better make this quick,” is all I heard him say in a self-satisfied voice, sly voice. Within a second I noticed them come at me all at once, knocking over a chair and a small side table in their wake. I immediately jumped up and back against the kitchen table as I my heart started throbbing hard in my chest, my breathing was erratic yet I still kept my head down, not looking up and showing them what I truly was. They stood blocking anyway out from the kitchen, grinning and sniggering as they slowly came toward me, my body started shaking as my hand slowly slid across the table, I noticed out o

  • Hybrid   Bloods first kiss

Groban POV I found myself pacing back and forth trying to think of what to do, when suddenly I heard a knock at the door, my eyes shot up and I immediately hurried to go and unlock it, too my relief I saw Ward standing there. I let out a sigh of relief, I knew he would come looking for me eventually, it had been two days and I hadn’t left the cabin at all. Laya had fainted in my arms two days ago and hadn’t woken up since then, faint groans would escape her lips every now and then and I had tried countless times to wake her up but she just wouldn’t open her eyes. I would have gone to fetch Ward sooner but I was too scared to leave her alone after what had happened with Dax. I hated him for what he had done, he had no right to touch Laya and even though we were brothers, we were nothing alike. “How is she?” Ward asked as he stood shaking the rain from his jacket before coming inside, there was a deep concerning frown spread across

  • Hybrid   Something about a symbol?

Laya POV I felt myself slowly waking up from a warm dream, in my dream all I could smell was him and I wanted to drown in it. Smiling softly as I thought about this my eyes fluttered open as a small gasp escaped my lips, Groban was lying right in front of me which startled me somewhat. We were face to face with each other and all I could feel was this incredible warmth begin to glow right through me, a feeling I had never ever felt before. Was this truly real, was he really here, right in front of me. Staring into my eyes as a smile spread across his face, I instantly felt that all familiar spark of electricity pulsate through my belly drawing me in to him, taking in a breath a small moan escaped my lips, “Mountain dew,” I breathed and his eyes widened as surprise and astonishment washed over him, “How did you know that?” feeling slightly surprised myself at his question my brows furrowed for just a second, “Know what?” “Mountai

  • Hybrid   Into the woods

The following morning Groban woke me up really early, by early I mean somewhere around 4:30 am, it was still dark out and winter was nearing so the chill in the air alone kept me closest to the fireplace when I wasn’t in Groban’s arms. He quickly got me dressed in long black leggings, a pair of black combat boots, a blue long sleeve t-shirt and a grey denim hooded jacket that fit me snuggly. Looking up as I stood before him in the kitchen he quickly slid a mustard color beanie onto my head as he gave me a once over clearly satisfied with the outcome, “This should do,” he nodded to himself more than to me. I could see he was apprehensive of taking me out with him but there was something else, he seemed distracted and edgy in a way that I hadn’t seem from him and I wondered why that was. Eventually I just couldn’t take it anymore so I did the most obvious thing, “What’s wrong?” He immediately froze as his jaw clenched but he didn’t dare meet my stare, “

  • Hybrid   White wolf

Laya’s POV Groban lead us back toward the brothers clan boarders, back to the village, and with each passing step I felt myself reluctant to go back there. Right now he wouldn’t look at me, he wouldn’t even speak to me, instead we just kept walking with me following behind him in a state of unwitting silence. I guess he felt annoyed that I hadn’t shifted when he had tried so hard to get me to do just that, I had so many questions and they needed answers first before I allowed myself to shift into anything I didn’t truly understand. The entire exhibition seemed pointless as we made our way back without even a deer to show for us being out here in the first place, lifting my hand to touch my neck a spark shot through the place where Groban had marked me and I let out a small gasp. How did Groban know so much about my kind, and how had he been able to mark me like that. I could feel it now, it was as though I had this insane connection with

  • Hybrid   The truth

Groban POV I must have fallen asleep after I sat back against the wall watching her sleep. In the next moment my eyes shot up as if an energy yanked at my soul, I instantly saw her sitting straight up with her yellow eyes pinned on mine. Her gaze was concentrated, deliberate, concerned and confused all at once. And all those emotions were directed straight at me as her eyes pierced my own. We sat like that for a while not saying a word, when eventually a thought must have gone through her mind as she sighed with her eyes were drawn down toward the rug as she idly sat staring at her hands clutching onto the fur, “It wasn’t a dream was it?” Still staring at her with concern on my face I merely shook my head, “No,” Nodding she frowned as she closed her eyes, “I shifted,” “Into a white wolf,” I answered her. I was still shocked and amazed at this revelation myself at this point. She wasn’t just a hybrid but instead, a white wolf com

  • Hybrid   Hunting to heat

Laya POV Crouched down beside Groban, I held onto the dagger he had given me as I waited patiently. My breathing was low and I kept my focus in the same direction as Groban, he closed his eyes as he sniffed in the air before slowly opening them again, “Can you smell that?” He whispered so softly if I didn’t have excellent hearing I would have surely missed it. Taking a whiff of the surrounding air I finally picked up the scent he was referring to, it had been three weeks since Groban told me the truth about what he really was, and in that time he had taught me to channel my senses instead of suppressing them like I had my entire life. “I do,” I whispered back. Having his body this close to me would always end up in my senses going completely crazy, tingles and sparks ignited and all I wanted was him. Suddenly the air shifted and a different smell filled the air, turning my head in the direction it was coming from I breathed in sl

  • Hybrid   Raging sadness

Groban POV Groban POV Storming into my cabin with Laya right behind me I immediately felt the onset of infuriating anger toward Dax, who the fuck did he think he was. He was my half-brother, but not by blood. He was a narcissistic asshole with a chip on his shoulder the size of his ego, and I would like nothing more than knocking that smug grin off of his fucking face. The way he looked at Laya made me seethe inside, I knew what it meant, he hadn’t let it go and I knew full well the moment my back was turned he would try it again. I wanted to believe that Lay could defend herself against him, but that would force her to have to shift and she was still learning how to be a hybrid, how to control her wolf. She wasn’t ready to take on Dax and the rest of the clan, I had never enjoyed being part of this clan but I knew it was for my own protection that I was here. My uncle would never suspect the wolf hiding amongst the sheep, and y

  • Hybrid   Epilogue

Groban POV "Son, she needs to shift in order to give birth. She's a white wolf and they can't give birth to their pups in their human form if she doesn't shift now she'll die." Crouched down over Laya's body I was wreathing with pain, her pain. It was like I could feel each contraction doubling up on itself as she screamed out in agony. Oh and yes, it seemed Ward was here too, he had gone looking for the Gaians soon after Laya and I had both disappeared. Expecting Demetrius to be behind our disappearance he had risked his life is going to see them because let's face it, they could have easily killed him. After seeing what Rainn was capable of with someone as powerful as Demetrius, a mere human wouldn't stand a chance. "Fuck, I can't take this pain it's embedding itself within my spine. How do we get her to shift if she's incoherent?" Because that's what she was, it was as if she was having an out-of-body experience. She wa

  • Hybrid   A fight to the death

Groban POV The entire forest floor became silent the moment they entered the clearing, Lycans and Vampires alike stopped dead in their tracks as their eyes flew over in the direction of their alluring presence. Even Demetrius and Dagon broke away from one another as they stood staring at the ones dressed in dark cloaks, the moment they all came to a standstill they almost completely surrounded us as they all but completed a circle around us. I was still crouched down covering Laya with my body as I kept my eyes on them, they were big, really big. And they were armed with swords, bows, and arrows. I wondered who they were, what they were here for, the energy radiating off of them though held a kind of calm, peaceful aura that told me that they were definitely not part of Demetrius's wolves. And that's what they were, shifter wolves. Big ass shifter wolves whose eyes were fixed in one direction only- Demetrius.

  • Hybrid   Emerging from the shadows

Groban POV I had to pretend that I was unconscious the entire time because I didn't know exactly what I was being dragged into, I knew by what I was hearing from the guards who were dragging me that I was meant to be sacrificed under something called the blood moon, that he intended on taking Laya, my Laya, as his mate once I was dead. From what I've picked up from listening in on Livia's venting when she assumed me unconscious, was that Demetrius couldn't take over as king until I was completely out of the picture, not really anyway. Because I was the rightful heir to the throne, as long as my father's blood still ran through my veins, Demetrius wouldn't be able to assume the position as king. So that's what all this was for then, getting me out of the way so that he can finally take the title. What I couldn't understand was why he would want Laya as his mate, and then it hit me- she's a white wolf hybrid, that must be why he would wan

  • Hybrid   Till death us do part

Laya POV My legs felt as heavy as lead as I lagged behind the two guards leading the way in front of us, Jake walked slowly behind me with his head down the entire way, he didn't make any attempt to say a word to me and I knew why. He was protecting us, because to the guards and everyone else Jake was nothing more than a meat puppet, a snack for me when the thirst for human blood became too much, little did they know that Jake wasn't all that human anymore. I wasn't sure what he was actually becoming, the fact that he hadn't shifted into a wolf yet or begun thirsting for blood himself made me question everything I thought I knew about being a hybrid. I wanted nothing more than to break free and lose control, aim all of my aggression at the guards in front of me- but what would that help, when in actual fact it's Demetrius and Livia that I'm after. So on we go, each step feeling heavier than the previous one, knowing of what's to come instantly

  • Hybrid   The evil, beyond

Groban POV I can't say for sure how long I've been kept down here in this place of torture, but I can say that time has completely meshed together for me as I drift in out of consciousness. What is the protocol with wolfsbane I wonder as I feel myself fade away again, I've become incredibly familiar with it in these times as I know exactly when I've been injected with it, besides the burning sensation that runs through my veins all the way to the core of my soul, the other thing that makes it stand out to me while I'm semi- unconscious is how it weakens me, how it weakens my wolf to such an extent that it's impossible for me to even open my eyes. The effects are like a serious drug to us shifters, one which would be completely harmless to humans but deadly to us if we happen to overdose on it. As I feel myself slowly lifting from the heavy effects of the wolfsbane I expect to be injected again because that's what's been h

  • Hybrid   The slave of hope

Laya POV"I'm not wearing that thing, so you might as well leave."I spat the words at the timid-looking young girl standing before me a little too harshly, yet at that very moment, I didn't care less about hurting someone's feelings. This whole perplexed situation had spun right out of control, from the moment Demetrius captured us to right here and now.Did he actually think that I would marry him in that dress, that I would just go with whatever sadistic fuckery he has planned for tonight?I would rather die a thousand deaths than let him touch me in that way, ever."Please Miss Laya, she'll kill me if you don't allow me to clothe you in this dress..."My eyes narrowed at her words, the mere fact that that horrific woman would kill someone all because I refused to put on a dress, is all the proof I need that she is far too sick and twisted to be related to Groban, or Groban's mother for that matter.Smir

  • Hybrid   Extermination or maybe?

Laya POV "Stop it, just stop patronizing me like I'm some child and you're the adult alright. I know what all of this means, how could I not. Groban is my mate, I have the children of Gaia's symbol branded against my hand like some goddam reminder that all of this is happening because instead of us going to find them like we were meant to, I ran... I tried to take on Demetrius all by myself in a moment of stupidity, I was so blind by the rage I felt when I saw Groban lying on that floor in our cabin, that I didn't think. And now he's going to pay the ultimate price for that, it's all my fault that he's about to die!" I cry out as I sink to my knees, sobbing bitterly as my hands cup my face shielding my eyes from what's to come as if it would help at all. If I had just listened to my dream back then, the one I had had about the thirteen tribes, the one where clearly Demetrius was the monster and villain of this story. Then maybe we wouldn't be in

  • Hybrid   The blood moon sacrifice

Laya POVI'm unable to think straight anymore, instead, I feel like I'm being strangled to death by the sheer weight of what's to come.In less than a few hours Demetrius will kill Groban, the true heir to the Lycan throne, all so he can finally overthrow the true source of Lycan power and claim it all for himself. He wants to kill my mate and then claim me for himself, I feel like being sick as the onset of nausea swirls around my insides like a tornado of impending doom. Because I have this gnawing feeling scratching at the fear building deep within me, it's telling me that I don't have any real chance at saving Groban from Demetrius. I mean have you seen the beast, he's at least eight feet tall and built like a behemoth. All Jake can do is sit quietly and watch me, he hasn't said a word all day, instead he decided to let me be. Deep down inside I'm eternally grateful that he isn't lecturing me like he did last night, b

  • Hybrid   Countdown to the blood moon

Laya POVTomorrow...It keeps running its race in my head over and over again, I feel like I can't even breathe at this moment anymore. If I was stronger I would be able to get out of here and save Groban, I would have broken down the door standing between us and freedom, and take on any guard standing in my way.But here I sit huddled up in a corner of the room holding onto my knees as they bunch up just under my chin like the scared and pathetic little hybrid girl I used to be, the same pathetic hybrid girl I still clearly am today.I'm so lost in the onset of what's to come tomorrow night, the blood moon, the moment in which Demetrius will kill Groban right in front of me. The moment he will claim me by force as he marks me as his, a Lycan monster so bloodthirsty for control and dominance over all shifters and humanity alike, how did this happen.I'm drowning in a situation beyond my capability of escape and I
