Laya POV

I followed the trail to where it began in the snow, Groban’s bloody trail grew immensely the further I went. My eyes were completely zeroed in on what I saw in the snow, so much so that I didn’t focus on anything else besides his blood against the whiteness.

Suddenly I felt a blow to my head as I hit the ground, bewildered I looked up and all around before finally focusing on an image before me. Swallowing hard I recognized the face I saw before me,

“Demetrius,” I said sternly as I glared at him. Smirking he crossed his arms as he stared down at me,

“The fact that you know who I am should not surprise me, but tell me little hybrid, how long before that thing growing in your belly comes to be?” I swallowed hard as I furrowed my brows, how did he know I was pregnant, I wasn’t even showing yet, I had a very tiny bump if any.

“Wondering how I know huh, oh child, I wasn’t born

  • Hybrid   My wolf is stronger than the vampire

Laya POV Groban wasn’t talking to me, I could hear him pacing up and down in the cell next to me and I wondered whether or not he would eventually create a trench with the number of times I heard him marching, the velocity of his determination, and frustration was suffocating me with each and every stride. I sat back against the wall with my knees up to my chest, it must have been hours, I couldn’t be certain of time because it was darkened in here and the only source of light came from a few torches which hung on the walls leading toward the way I’m guessing was the only way in and out of this place. It was definitely very medieval that was for sure, and I couldn’t stop myself from wondering about everything that has happened from the moment Groban had taken me from tribe Taulantii… All he ever did was protect me from danger, and how did I repay him, by shoving us both into the most dangerous and perplexing situation ever. Groban was m

Hours had passed and still, no one had come to remove the human from my cell, I called him that now because I didn’t much care for his name. He was nothing more than a puppet to Demetrius and he had tried to seduce the vampire side of me which I hadn’t realized up until this moment, was actually incredibly strong.I didn’t know how we were going to be able to get out of here, but I knew that we had to. Demetrius held power over all things here and it seemed that his reign of dominance was way farther spread than we had ever anticipated it to be, with us stuck in here there was no telling what he would do to us, or try and force us to do.I still couldn’t believe that Demetrius had put a human in my cell who willingly wanted me to feed on him, the thought of it made me feel sick to my stomach.I sat huddled up in the corner of the metal bars where Groban had stuck his arms around to get to me, I hadn’t been able to see his face but j

  • Hybrid   Why me?

I fell back against my backside as I sat staring at a wide-eyed Jake staring back at me as my jaw dropped in surprise, I quickly composed myself as I leaned forward and pulled the gag from his mouth. He stared into my eyes in complete disbelief and silence as I began untying the knots around his wrists, I was finding it difficult to even think straight right now.The last time I saw Jake was when I was being sentenced to working within the kitchen until the brothers came to take me away, Jake had been sent away until I left. That was just over six months ago, so much has happened since then.As I quickly untied his hands he finally pulled free as he swiftly pulled me to him in a warm embrace,“Laya, I can’t believe it’s you. I thought I would never see you again,” He said as he held me even closer still. And for a second I didn’t quite know what to do, but then my body relaxed a bit as I hugged him back.Jake pulled back slig

  • Hybrid   Children of Gaia

I was about to respond to Jake when I heard a sudden noise coming from the darkness, all of a sudden I noticed guards dragging an unconscious form towards the cell next to mine, and my eyes widened when I instantly realized it was Groban. There was so much blood, way more than I had seen the last time he was attacked. His head was hanging down as his feet scraped along the ground, I felt the lump implode on itself inside my throat as I gulped. I immediately jumped to my feet as I rushed over to the metal bars, “Groban!” I wailed as the tears began to flow from my cheeks. His drenched hair was hanging tasseled around his face and instead of sweat or water dripping from the ends, it was rather blood, his blood. And at that moment I felt a flood of both anger and pain that I haven’t felt before, it was engulfing me at a rate that meant that at any second the rage would erupt and explode from me. And the minute I saw a very smug Demetrius standing right b

  • Hybrid   How do you know Ward?

Groban never answered me and I sat there for what felt like forever trying to figure out who Rainn was who I had seen in my vision, both Groban and I had seen her, I know this because he had said her name at the exact same time that I had. I stared at my hand, the branded imprint that stared back at me, the symbol of Gaia. A symbol I had no knowledge about, yet here I was, trying to figure out what to do, how to approach the situation. When in fact I didn’t know anything about the Gaia symbol nor the thirteen tribes. I sat trying to concentrate but my body was drained, it had been well over 72hrs since I had consumed any form of food, and the fact that I was pregnant only caused havoc to my life. I was clenching my jaw, trying desperately to concentrate on not needing to feed, not needing nutrients but my wolf had other plans. She didn’t see Jake as important yet she did deem him fit for consumption. This was the point at which I started feeling it to be a pr

  • Hybrid   You need to feed

Laya POV I kept myself huddled up against the wall and at this point, I had asked Jake to give me some space, my head was beginning to spin and I honestly felt far too weak to argue with anyone right now. I knew that if he kept coming to close that there was a very good chance that I would lose control and I really didn’t want that to happen. I kept my eyes closed the entire time, I hated what Demetrius was doing by trying to force me to feed on a human, and not just any human, he wanted me to feed on Jake. On top of everything it felt like this baby was sucking the life right out of me minute by minute, I needed to try and keep my mind occupied on something else, like why Ward was trying to go and find the Gaia tribe? I was glad to know that Ward was still alright, I had been so stupid in allowing Dax to see who I truly was, and because of that Groban had done the same. Dax hated shifters way too much to just let this go, I knew that much.

  • Hybrid   Days in a dungeon

Groban POV I watched Demetrius basically retreating from Laya like her words had scorched him somehow, I turned my head to the side of the bars to possibly catch a glimpse of Laya but I couldn’t see her. I instantly felt anxious and it was driving me to the brink of insanity not being able to hold her right now, the words that she had spoken kept going around in my head over and over again. “Lay,” I spoke softly and tentatively as I stretched my hand around the bars toward her cell. But there was no response, “Talk to me Lay,” I said still holding my hand stretched out for her to take. But again there was no reply, I wanted to feel her, I needed to touch what was mine. Suddenly Jake sighed irritably as he spoke, “I don’t think she wants to talk, maybe just give her some time,” if he could have seen the glare I was giving right now he would have known that he was treading on thin ice, “Jake, what’s wrong with her?” I dema

  • Hybrid   He can't be gone

Groban POV We must have both fallen asleep with our fingers interlocked through the bars, my arm was dead with pins and needles shooting through my fingertips. I moved my hand as I loosened my grip against hers, rubbing gently over her knuckles as I did so. This had been the longest that we’ve sat like this and I knew that she probably needed a break as well, so I gently pulled my hand free from hers, “Hey baby, you go and get some rest. Your arm must be killing you,” I had no real concept of time in here but I knew that we’ve been here for a few days now. It pained me each and every moment Laya was in this fucking place, I knew her, I knew how hard it had been to get her to start feeding on healthy human blood. Not that my blood was at all human but, it had taken a lot to convince her to feed on me and then on the blood banks I provided her. But she never wanted to feed on humans’, I know that has always been something she felt strongly about.

  • Hybrid   Epilogue

Groban POV "Son, she needs to shift in order to give birth. She's a white wolf and they can't give birth to their pups in their human form if she doesn't shift now she'll die." Crouched down over Laya's body I was wreathing with pain, her pain. It was like I could feel each contraction doubling up on itself as she screamed out in agony. Oh and yes, it seemed Ward was here too, he had gone looking for the Gaians soon after Laya and I had both disappeared. Expecting Demetrius to be behind our disappearance he had risked his life is going to see them because let's face it, they could have easily killed him. After seeing what Rainn was capable of with someone as powerful as Demetrius, a mere human wouldn't stand a chance. "Fuck, I can't take this pain it's embedding itself within my spine. How do we get her to shift if she's incoherent?" Because that's what she was, it was as if she was having an out-of-body experience. She wa

  • Hybrid   A fight to the death

Groban POV The entire forest floor became silent the moment they entered the clearing, Lycans and Vampires alike stopped dead in their tracks as their eyes flew over in the direction of their alluring presence. Even Demetrius and Dagon broke away from one another as they stood staring at the ones dressed in dark cloaks, the moment they all came to a standstill they almost completely surrounded us as they all but completed a circle around us. I was still crouched down covering Laya with my body as I kept my eyes on them, they were big, really big. And they were armed with swords, bows, and arrows. I wondered who they were, what they were here for, the energy radiating off of them though held a kind of calm, peaceful aura that told me that they were definitely not part of Demetrius's wolves. And that's what they were, shifter wolves. Big ass shifter wolves whose eyes were fixed in one direction only- Demetrius.

  • Hybrid   Emerging from the shadows

Groban POV I had to pretend that I was unconscious the entire time because I didn't know exactly what I was being dragged into, I knew by what I was hearing from the guards who were dragging me that I was meant to be sacrificed under something called the blood moon, that he intended on taking Laya, my Laya, as his mate once I was dead. From what I've picked up from listening in on Livia's venting when she assumed me unconscious, was that Demetrius couldn't take over as king until I was completely out of the picture, not really anyway. Because I was the rightful heir to the throne, as long as my father's blood still ran through my veins, Demetrius wouldn't be able to assume the position as king. So that's what all this was for then, getting me out of the way so that he can finally take the title. What I couldn't understand was why he would want Laya as his mate, and then it hit me- she's a white wolf hybrid, that must be why he would wan

  • Hybrid   Till death us do part

Laya POV My legs felt as heavy as lead as I lagged behind the two guards leading the way in front of us, Jake walked slowly behind me with his head down the entire way, he didn't make any attempt to say a word to me and I knew why. He was protecting us, because to the guards and everyone else Jake was nothing more than a meat puppet, a snack for me when the thirst for human blood became too much, little did they know that Jake wasn't all that human anymore. I wasn't sure what he was actually becoming, the fact that he hadn't shifted into a wolf yet or begun thirsting for blood himself made me question everything I thought I knew about being a hybrid. I wanted nothing more than to break free and lose control, aim all of my aggression at the guards in front of me- but what would that help, when in actual fact it's Demetrius and Livia that I'm after. So on we go, each step feeling heavier than the previous one, knowing of what's to come instantly

  • Hybrid   The evil, beyond

Groban POV I can't say for sure how long I've been kept down here in this place of torture, but I can say that time has completely meshed together for me as I drift in out of consciousness. What is the protocol with wolfsbane I wonder as I feel myself fade away again, I've become incredibly familiar with it in these times as I know exactly when I've been injected with it, besides the burning sensation that runs through my veins all the way to the core of my soul, the other thing that makes it stand out to me while I'm semi- unconscious is how it weakens me, how it weakens my wolf to such an extent that it's impossible for me to even open my eyes. The effects are like a serious drug to us shifters, one which would be completely harmless to humans but deadly to us if we happen to overdose on it. As I feel myself slowly lifting from the heavy effects of the wolfsbane I expect to be injected again because that's what's been h

  • Hybrid   The slave of hope

Laya POV"I'm not wearing that thing, so you might as well leave."I spat the words at the timid-looking young girl standing before me a little too harshly, yet at that very moment, I didn't care less about hurting someone's feelings. This whole perplexed situation had spun right out of control, from the moment Demetrius captured us to right here and now.Did he actually think that I would marry him in that dress, that I would just go with whatever sadistic fuckery he has planned for tonight?I would rather die a thousand deaths than let him touch me in that way, ever."Please Miss Laya, she'll kill me if you don't allow me to clothe you in this dress..."My eyes narrowed at her words, the mere fact that that horrific woman would kill someone all because I refused to put on a dress, is all the proof I need that she is far too sick and twisted to be related to Groban, or Groban's mother for that matter.Smir

  • Hybrid   Extermination or maybe?

Laya POV "Stop it, just stop patronizing me like I'm some child and you're the adult alright. I know what all of this means, how could I not. Groban is my mate, I have the children of Gaia's symbol branded against my hand like some goddam reminder that all of this is happening because instead of us going to find them like we were meant to, I ran... I tried to take on Demetrius all by myself in a moment of stupidity, I was so blind by the rage I felt when I saw Groban lying on that floor in our cabin, that I didn't think. And now he's going to pay the ultimate price for that, it's all my fault that he's about to die!" I cry out as I sink to my knees, sobbing bitterly as my hands cup my face shielding my eyes from what's to come as if it would help at all. If I had just listened to my dream back then, the one I had had about the thirteen tribes, the one where clearly Demetrius was the monster and villain of this story. Then maybe we wouldn't be in

  • Hybrid   The blood moon sacrifice

Laya POVI'm unable to think straight anymore, instead, I feel like I'm being strangled to death by the sheer weight of what's to come.In less than a few hours Demetrius will kill Groban, the true heir to the Lycan throne, all so he can finally overthrow the true source of Lycan power and claim it all for himself. He wants to kill my mate and then claim me for himself, I feel like being sick as the onset of nausea swirls around my insides like a tornado of impending doom. Because I have this gnawing feeling scratching at the fear building deep within me, it's telling me that I don't have any real chance at saving Groban from Demetrius. I mean have you seen the beast, he's at least eight feet tall and built like a behemoth. All Jake can do is sit quietly and watch me, he hasn't said a word all day, instead he decided to let me be. Deep down inside I'm eternally grateful that he isn't lecturing me like he did last night, b

  • Hybrid   Countdown to the blood moon

Laya POVTomorrow...It keeps running its race in my head over and over again, I feel like I can't even breathe at this moment anymore. If I was stronger I would be able to get out of here and save Groban, I would have broken down the door standing between us and freedom, and take on any guard standing in my way.But here I sit huddled up in a corner of the room holding onto my knees as they bunch up just under my chin like the scared and pathetic little hybrid girl I used to be, the same pathetic hybrid girl I still clearly am today.I'm so lost in the onset of what's to come tomorrow night, the blood moon, the moment in which Demetrius will kill Groban right in front of me. The moment he will claim me by force as he marks me as his, a Lycan monster so bloodthirsty for control and dominance over all shifters and humanity alike, how did this happen.I'm drowning in a situation beyond my capability of escape and I
