Chapter 4 - Waiting for what?
Mikhail
I keep my eyes focused on the door as I make my way to class. Rowan walks in and nods his head in my direction. A few minutes pass, and Nevaeh still hasn’t come in. Mrs. Christiansen begins her lecture on the project, but my mind is focused elsewhere. Where is she?
After that near kiss last period, I have mixed feelings. I don’t want to like Nevaeh, but she keeps sneaking into my thoughts. Once Mrs. Christiansen is done, all the partners begin to work, leaving me on my own. Maybe I should have kissed her. Being that close to her felt so right, and her apology shook me.
As the rest of the period continues and Nevaeh doesn’t appear, I can’t help but be concerned when her friend Jezelle rushes out of the room. Trying to keep a calm façade, I scan the hallway. She’s not there. Rowan catches up to me once the class is over and gives me an inquiring smirk. “Looks like your girlfriend didn’t come to class.”
I give him a blank look. “I don’t know what you’re talking about, Rowan. Have you been drinking bad blood again?”
He smiles knowingly. “Well, since you're not worried, I shouldn’t tell you that she was in the nurse’s office.” I shrug my shoulders nonchalantly, but inside I’m seething. Did Travis come back after I left? Did someone hurt her?
Without another word, I head to the lunchroom. I can’t keep obsessing over this girl. The last thing I need to do is get attached to a human girl. It would be disastrous for both of us.
Rowan and I meet Carrick and Kell in the lunchroom. They’re already scarfing down a few slices of pizza. Laying my bag on the floor, I pick a fry out of Kell’s tray. Kell slaps my hand with a scowl. “Hey man, hands off my food.”
I quirk a brow and reach for another piece. Rowan rests a tray in front of me and takes a seat. “Here, eat.”
I take a bite of my own fries as I scan the room. Fortunately, I spot Nevaeh right away. She’s sitting with a few of her friends. She doesn’t look sick, but something about her appearance tells me that she’s not well. Her eyes meet mine at that moment. It’s almost hypnotizing how I’m caught by her golden gaze.
Refusing to look away, I maintain eye contact. Unfortunately, my brother notices my absorption and snidely whispers. “Looks like your girlfriend is fine. Maybe you should go over there and offer to kiss her boo-boos.”
I scowl at my brother’s comment. “Seriously, Rowan, don’t you get tired of listening to yourself?”
Rowan snorts loudly and laughs. “Nah, man. I love the sound of my voice,” He says, patting me on the back.
Not wanting to argue anymore, I get up to leave. Sometimes I wonder if Rowan was sent to drive me crazy.
Unfortunately, Henry Cruzan is blocking the doorway. My jaw pops as I wait for him to move out of my way. I’m not really in the mood to deal with Henry. Not after having to deal with his friend Travis. Henry is a first-class douche bag. Henry’s a stereotypical jock. He takes great pleasure in picking on the weak and throwing his weight around.
I narrow my eyes as he pushes his chest back and struts lazily towards me. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out his intentions when he points his tray at my chest. However, before he can reach out and slam it against me, I slap the bottom of his tray and watch it fall harmlessly across his shoes.
Jaw tight, I brush my hands across my shirt. Henry moves closer, his nostrils flaring with rage. It’s almost funny how he tries to intimidate me with his size. Henry is the kind of guy that uses his body as a weapon. However, he didn’t count on me being a few inches taller and stronger. He must notice that his scare tactics are not working on me because he quickly changes his tactic. “I saw that you have your eye on that sweet piece of ass, Nevaeh.” Smirking, he nudges his chin in Nevaeh’s direction. I don’t know why, but his comment instantly gets to me. My wings vibrate beneath my skin, and my eyes flicker. The demon inside me is close to the surface. I take a couple of deep breaths in hopes of controlling my reaction, but it’s a difficult task.
Unfortunately, Henry, the ass-hat, is too thick-headed to notice the danger in front of him. Moving closer, I manage to mutter with a gruff growl. “What did you call her?”
Henry pushes my chest with a sneer. “I said she has a sweet ass, and I can’t wait to mount it.”
Before I can reply, Travis, Nevaeh’s ex, is standing next to Henry. Rowan does the same for me. I can always count on my brother to watch my back.
Travis’s lip curls into a sneer. “What’s going on, guys?”
Henry answers. “I was just asking Michael if Nevaeh was giving him head in the library. I mean, I might want a little of that too.”
Travis looks at Henry, then at me. “Is that why you were in the library, Mike. You thought you’d deprive me of my piece so you can have some. Don’t worry, she would have gotten to you eventually.”
My body stiffens with rage. I can’t believe that Nevaeh dated this asshole. This time it’s Rowan who interjects. I clench my teeth, feigning control as my brother crosses his arms in front of his chest and grits out. “From what I heard, Nevaeh couldn’t find your little piece, so she ran to Mikhail.”
As if a bomb has gone off, Henry throws the first punch. Unfortunately, he didn’t count on my supernatural reflexes. Before he can touch me, I grip his fist between mine and push him away. My anger explodes. Henry and I are punching and kicking. I can feel Rowan trying to push me away, but nothing can stop me. Suddenly a voice breaks through my anger. “Mikhail, stop… stop it!” As quickly as my anger heated, it cooled down. My eyes clear and focus on Nevaeh, who is standing over us. Looking around me, I can see shocked faces. Not knowing what to do, I turn around and walk away. Unfortunately, Principal Moody stops me. “Mr. Cross,” He says loudly. “Come with me.” Scowling, I follow the Principal. Mr. Andrews follows behind with Henry.
Principal Moody opens his office door, admitting Henry and me inside. “Take a seat, boys.” We nod silently and take a seat.
“Mr. Cruzan, this is the third time I see you in my office for fighting. Now, do any of you want to explain to me why you were fighting?” He asks impatiently.
Henry and I might not like each other, but we know the law of the High School jungle. We don’t snitch on anyone; regardless of how much we hate each other, we remain quiet.
Principal Moody clears his throat and adjusts his tie with a scowl. “Now, don’t go answering at once.” He mutters sarcastically, but Henry and I don’t reply.
“Very well. I will give you two some time to think about your answer.” He says as he rises from his chair and walks back out of his office.
Henry and sit there quietly the whole time. We don’t even look at each other. I don’t know how long we sit there, but Principal Moody is suddenly back in his seat. He looks back and forth between Henry and me as if trying to figure us out. Tapping his index finger over a file, Principal Moody looks at Henry. “Now, Mr. Cruzan, as I was saying, this is not your first offense. Your parents have been called again, and you will be given two days of suspension.”
Henry’s eyes widen as he pushes forward, ready to argue. “But Principal Moody I─”
Principal Moody narrows his eyes and leans forward in his leather chair. “Not another word Mr. Cruzan. Get out before I make it for three days.” Principal Moody rises aggressively from his chair and points to the door. “Get out!”
Henry bristles as he rises from the seat and walks out the door. His fists are clenched, and his face is red and swollen beneath the bruises.
Principal Moody turns back to me with narrowed eyes. “As for you, Mr. Cross. I’m going to make a call to your foster father, and you will have detention after school every day this week, starting today. Are we clear?”
I swallow deeply and nod my head. “Yes, sir.” The chair scrapes across the floor as he sits down and looks at me unnervingly. For a human, Mr. Moody can be quite intimidating. I guess that’s why he’s the principal. “Now get out!” He mutters with a threatening growl. Quirking a brow, I straighten my spine and walk out of the door. However, as I make my way down the hall, I know that this is not the last I will hear of Henry Cruzan. Especially if he’s out to hurt Nevaeh. I guess I just have to remain alert.
Chapter 5 - Stupidly infuriatingNevaehFifth-period Physics drags on. I keep glancing at Mikhail’s empty desk in hopes that he will magically appear, but I know he’s probably in big trouble. Jez doesn’t have this class with me, which makes it ten times worse. At some point, Rowan moves closer to my seat and smiles. Curious about the fight, I quietly ask. “What was that fight about Rowan? What did Henry and Travis say to Mikhail?”Rowan’s smile disappears, becoming very serious. “Well, Princess, it turns out your ex and his buddy were making disrespectful comments about you. Something about you servicing each of them.”I cover my mouth, disgusted. “What?” I ask. I’m in disbelief. How could Travis do this to me? I’ve never hurt him, yet he has the nerve to make a comment like that about me after all that he’s done.“Ye
Chapter 6 - There’s no manual for thisMikhailI take a deep breath closing the office door behind me. The secretary, Mrs. Chase, sniffs loudly as she hands me my detention slip. Taking it, I step out and quirk a brow when I see Nevaeh Rivera standing there.“Mikhail,” Nevaeh whispers as she quietly strides towards me. “Yeah,” I say, annoyed. I know I’m rude, but I feel that I have the right after everything that has happened between us.Nevaeh bites her lips as her eyes run across my body appraisingly. My body heats with pleasure. She might as well have touched by how my body is reacting. “Are you okay?” She mumbles huskily. She looks so beautiful that it makes me want to pull her into my arms.I nod my head, confused by her concern. “What happened to you earlier?” I ask. Her brow furrows with confusion. Hell, I’m just a
Chapter 7- I’m in heavenNevaehRushing from the hallways to my car, I feel a sense of urgent excitement. I try not to think that my excitement stems from Mikhail coming to my house after school. Today is Wednesday, the only day of the week when I have nothing to do. Most of the time, I’m attending student council, music, dance, or cheer. That’s one of the reasons that I don’t work. With my hectic schedule, it’s hard to work a part-time job.As soon as I get home, I lay my bags down on the kitchen counter and head to the fridge. It’s empty. It looks like it’s going to be pizza again. I order an extra-large sausage with pepperoncini and pineapple. Mmmmm, I love pizza. I ordered it extra-large in case Mikhail is hungry.Heading to my room, I throw off my clothes. I can see a pile collecting in the corner, so I make a mental note: Go food shopping and do laundry. I look through my closet for a coupl
Chapter 8 - Reality returnsMikhailGripping my bag tightly, I stride quickly out of Nevaeh’s house. Rowan matches my steps, looking contrite. “Sorry for interrupting, but it looks like shit is going to hit the fan. Lukan’s here, and he doesn’t look happy.”I close my eyes and take a deep, steadying breath. Flashing back to a few minutes ago, I picture Neveah’s hair flowing around her chest and how good her velvety skin felt beneath my fingers. My mouth waters, remembering her nipples straining against her snug dress. Fuck! Why did the real world have to interfere? It was such a perfect moment. Yet, I know that it’s better this way. Nevaeh and I can never be together. It’s impossible.“It’s cool, man; we were just doing homework,” I say as I rub my hand across the back of my neck. Rowan turns to me with a disbelieving frown. “Are you kidding me, man?
NevaehShooting up from my bed, I glance groggily at my vibrating cell phone and close my eyes in hopes that the pounding in my head will subside. I lick my dry lips and grimace because my mouth tastes like garbage. After Mikhail left last night, I became a little depressed and cried over a carton of ice cream. Not getting any positive results, I decided to go into my parents' drinking cabinet and drank nearly half a vodka bottle.I’m really regretting it now. “Ughhh,” I groan out, trying to get up from the bed as my phone continues to vibrate. Reaching forward, I pick it up from the side table and clumsily place it against my ear. It’s Jez. “Yeah, Jez. What’s up?” I rasp out hoarsely.“Hey, Nev. Where the hell are you? Did you oversleep again?”I grunt in reply.Jez sighs in exasperation before she continues. “Geez, Nev, did you forget about practice? I told the girls, you’re
MikhailMy whole night was spent replaying yesterday’s kiss. But after a great deal of thought, I came to a decision. I can’t be with Nevaeh. With the Council breathing down my neck and my training, I just can’t be with a human. There’s too much at stake, and I can’t risk my family getting hurt.I pull on my black Nirvana t-shirt, black jeans, and black all-stars before I grab my leather jacket and make my way out of the door. Rowan, Kell, and Carrick are waiting by the porch. Rowan remains quiet as we file into the car. Starting the car, I contemplate how I’m going to approach the situation between Nevaeh and me.I’m a couple of feet from my locker when I notice Nevaeh. My heart speeds up the closer I get. As if sensing my presence, she turns to me and gives me a shy smile. Her smile almost disarms me, but I remain stoic. Nodding my head in reply, I open my locker and search through it. &nb
Chapter 11 - A Constant AcheNevaehI’m so humiliated. I just want to run and hide. I wish I had never kissed him. I’m a mess. That’s the best way to describe how I feel right now. As I rush to the library, I find a quiet corner and make sure that no one else is around. After what happened with Travis, I’m wary of my favorite spot. Tears blur my vision as I slide down the wall and curl into myself. I’m such an idiot! I press my palms against my eyes, hoping to stifle that incoming tears and take a few deep, calming breaths. My vision blurs, but somehow, I manage to keep them from falling. How am I going to face him next period? Just as I feel myself breaking apart, Aaron Sanders, our golden boy quarterback, passes by. Noticing me, he moves closer.Aaron is boyishly handsome. He’s tall, muscular with golden-colored eyes. The girls at school love him. Unfortunately, he knows it. “Hey, Heav
Mikhail As we make our way to Lit class, Rowan rambles on about inconsequential things. My heartbeat picks up with excitement and dread at the thought of seeing Nevaeh after our conversation earlier. However, as soon as I get to class, I feel disappointed because she’s not there. As I’m about to take a seat, Rowan slaps me in the arm and says. “Hey Khail, Isn’t that your girlfriend?” I turn to where he is pointing and swallow hard when I see Nevaeh talking to Aaron. I observe as he stops her near the door and kisses her on the forehead. Everything inside of me grows cold, and my wings begin to strain against my back. What the
Samael I watch as Galena and our baby rush through the secret door with trepidation before I close it behind them. Turning back, I prepare to fight whoever is rushing up the stairs. It sounds like a stampede of bulls is heading in my direction. Letting my demon loose, I let my eyes change into their icy color, extend my claws, and release my fangs. My body swells with power as rage courses through me. As soon as the door bursts open, I fight. A group of hellhounds burst through the doors, their claws out as they begin to slash. Using my sword skills, I tear through their bodies, slicing their heads and limbs, but they keep coming.&nb
Galena I gaze down into my son’s beautiful cherubic face. He looks so much like Samael with his ebony hair and eyes. As I caress his tiny fingers, a smile spreads across my face. “You’re perfect, my little Azrael.” “Yes, he is, isn’t he.” Samael’s arms wrap around my waist as he pulls me close to his chest, and his lips lay gentle kisses on my naked shoulder as our son continues to suckle on my breast. “He’s as perfect as his mother.” I angle my head and face my mate. We’ve only been together for a couple of years, but I’ve never been so happy. That night at the warehouse when Samael saved me was the best night of my life. For years, I thought I’d
“I told you the thing was a piece of rubbish.” My best mate, Azazel, mutters when the vehicle’s engine fails for the millionth time today. We’ve been working on rebuilding this vehicle for months, and the bloody thing won’t start. Reaching for a towel, I wipe the oil from my hands. “You need to stop being so negative, mate. It will start. We just need to continue working. Rome wasn’t built in a bloody day, you git.” Azazel quirks a cynical brow. “Alright, I’ll trust you, but I’m not going to the auto shop for that distributor cap. It’s your bleeding turn.” I roll my eyes. &ldqu
Azazel “What do you think?” My best mate, Samael, gestures to what I’m sure was once a magnificent muscle car. However, as I look at the vehicle’s unfinished exterior, vent frame, and empty trunk, I can see that its glory days are long gone. “I think you should get all of your quids back, mate. This…thing is not meant to be taken on the road.” Samael’s lip quirks with bemusement. His dark hair brushes his shoulders, and his obsidian eyes gleam with excitement. “Bloody hell, Azazel, have some vision. After we’re done fixing it, this vehicle will purr like a kitten.” I give him a s
Nevaeh I’m nervous. I don’t know why, but I am. I look at Mihail, who is slumped down comfortably in his chair and roll my eyes. Of course, he’s not nervous. I swear my boyfriend is made of steel. He gives me a crooked smile as he takes my hand and pulls me into his embrace. “Don’t worry, princess, we’ll do great.” I shake my head. “Why aren’t you nervous? You do know that this presentation is a big part of our grade, right?” Mikhail nods his head. “I know, but you’ll do fine. I mean, we’ve practiced every day this week. And some of those practices were really
Mikhail “You suck at this!” I tell Rowan as he clicks a couple of buttons in his console controller. Rowan scowls in reply. “It’s only because you're cheating, bro.” I roll my eyes and press a button to finally annihilate him. “What the hell, Khail!” He cries out grumpily. “I would have had you.” I shake my head and open my lips to respond, but before I can, Alex steps into the living room and looks at both of us. “Are you two done here? Because I have some good news.”&n
Mikhail Rowan and I shift in our seats impatiently as we wait for someone to speak to us. I look at Rowan, who moves closer to me. We’ve been living alone in our abandoned school bus for a while and were hustling money from people on the streets until one of the Council’s officers caught us and took us to one of the group homes. The Council members were not very happy to find out that I was a Hybrid. After reading Rowan’s book on Supernaturals and living on the streets for so long, I learned a lot about what I am. One being that Hybrids are not accepted in the Supernatural world. There aren’t many of us. In fact, I think I’m the only one of my species, and it seems that being a demon and angel hybrid is the worst you can be. In fact, when I went before the Council judge, the Council was debating whether or not I should be terminated. It has definitely been a crappy cou
Hybrid Bonus Chapter 43 - Khail meets RowanMikhail I don’t know where I’m going, but I couldn’t stay there anymore. My body aches, reminding me of the beating I took from my foster father days ago. Lifting my shirt, I take a look at my back, using the reflection from a nearby window to check my wounds. My winged tattoos glow like beacons on my back, and any sign of damage is gone. This all began when wings sprouted from my tattoos. I don’t understand where the tattoos or the wings came from, but it scared my foster father enough to pray while he tried to cut them off. My body shudders at the memory. He called me evil and told me I was sent from hell as he cut them off, then proceeded to use his belt against my sensitive skin. As I rush through the grimy alleys, I ignore any residual
Nevaeh “Ugh, I’m so glad we’re done moving everything in,” Mikhail puffs out a breath as he slumps on the bed beside me. I look around our small apartment and all of the boxes that need to be unpacked and quirk an amused brow. “It’s not like you weren’t strong enough to carry the boxes in. But I’m too tired to finish unpacking. I’ll do it tomorrow.” After my father sold the house, Azazel offered us the use of one of his apartment lofts, which we readily accepted. At first, I was hesitant about moving in with Mikhail because I felt that we were moving too swiftly, but I quickly realized that we’re soulmates. We’re meant to be together, and I love him beyond re
