What could be described as cataclysmic? An infant’s piercing cry or the pain wrought by failing a test? A cat’s unrelenting rage or the pursuit of a deeply psychological childhood trauma? People judged chaos differently. For one it would be the loss of his or her laptop a few days before an important term paper was due. For another, it would be the loss of a cherished parent and being forcefully thrust into the world of the unknown with no social support. While one despaired at the thought of losing her child, another relished the thought of being rid of a burden. In the end, what people regarded as chaotic was relative.
