'Hey Nerd. Snow's talking to you,' Luke called Janet's attention and she pried her eyes away from the table on which squad 10 sat and fixed her gaze on him.
He was playing with his fries absentmindedly. She decided to ignore him.
He still sulked about the fact that the instructor had made their whole squad write "I won't ever fight my comrade" a thousand times.
The punishment had hit him the most. He hated anything that made him sit so still or spelt of boredom.
And he blamed Janet for everything.
Ava ate her chilli quietly. Apart from Luke, she was also a fan of dangerous activities, anything brazen and daring and sitting still for hours wasn't her style.
She was still trying to get herself back.
'What was that Snow? Sorry, I wasn't listening,' Janet said.
Snow glanced at Squad 10's table. 'What's up with t
Suzanne yawned. It was still very early in the morning. She rubbed her sleepy eyes. 'Ethan, why'd you call me out here? I'm tired.''Ethan?'She put forth her arms and looked round about her. There was no one there. She frowned as she tried to think hard.'Suzanne....,' she had heard a knock earlier at her window. She had frowned as she turned over.'Suzanne!' The knock had gone louder.'What?!' she had startled as she was roused from sleep.'Un...it's me, Ethan,' the voice was muffled.'What are you doing out there?' Suzanne had asked as she had rolled her eyes.'Just come on out...um...I need to tell you something really 'mportant,' there was an urgency in his voice.'Nope,' she had gone back to snuggle on her bed.'Please...,' Ethan's voice had b
'Oh man...I didn't think they'll find out this soon,' Ethan said, relaxing his back on the tree.'Well,' Andrew started, looking up from his phone. 'We weren't really being inconspicuous about the whole thing.'Ethan frowned as he turned to Andrew.'What's inconspicuous?'Ryan gave a mild chuckle. 'I didn't think you'd know.'Ethan looked up at him angrily. 'What?! I dare you to come down and repeat that!' he demanded angrily as he looked up at Ryan perched on a branch of the tree.'Oh shush Ethan!' Suzanne hit his head.He groaned and moved away from her, protesting as he went. 'You did hear what he said, didn't you?' he defended himself.Suzanne crossed her arms across her chest. 'He has his reasons,' she offered as she sided with Ryan.Ethan frowned deeply at her.Ryan soon lost interest in bo
'Squad 10 and 15 get into position,' the woman instructor said.Suzanne took in a deep breath. It was their turn. Ethan nodded at her before yelling 'Let's take them down!' She couldn't help laughing. 'Get ready to lose!' Ethan called out to Squad 15 as they all held on to the rope.Luke snorted. 'You talk like you could actually pull it off!''Ready?' Riz started.Janet did not take her eyes off Andrew. He was planning something behind that bored facade and she knew it.'Set?'Ryan gripped the rope tighter. Ava smirked. This ought to be easy, I'm a rope handler, it's my kind of weapon anyway. She thought confidently.Snow looked determined.'Go!'Both sides pulled hard. 'Everyone lean right!' Ava yelled and squad 15 tilted, making squad 10 lose balance.
Everyone turned to him. 'What are you doing?' Snow asked in a harsh whisper. He ignored her and took a step towards squad 10, at least the three that remained. He jabbed his fore finger at them.'No way...,' he repeated angrily, glaring at them. 'You hear me? No blantant way!''What is it Luke?' Ethan faced him sneeringly. 'Can't stomach a little defeat?' he mocked.Luke shoved him on the chest furiously. 'How dare you!''After trying to push our team apart you think you'll escape unharmed after stealing the star we ought to have earned?!'Ethan was jolted back. He furiously moved nearer to Luke. 'You dared to touch me with those dirty hands of yours?!''Besides,' Suzanne snorted from where she stood. 'We won fairly and cleanly!' she added, a smug smile planted on her face.'Now squad
'Get off Reece!' Greg growled sending a blast of fire free from his gadget. Snow ducked just in time to weave the blazing heat and a nearby building caught the fire from Greg's blast.A few of the CINs they had there rushed quickly to the scene.Riz quickly sprouted into action by pouring out water to quench the rapidly growing fire. Miranda ran inside the building quickly to evacuate the occupants in an orderly manner.A laser marked Suzanne's arm.Blood gushed out from the cut. She growled and turned to the source. Annabelle grinned maliciously. 'That's just a taste of what you're going to get anytime you dare to cross me--'Suzanne clenched her fists.Annabelle had hardly finshed talking when Suzanne jumped up and threw a punch at her but she skillfully somersaulted backwards, avoiding being hit.Suzanne's fist hit the ground and
Andrew was the only slad who sat far off with his laptop, not bothering to stand and listen to the angry speech the female supervisor was giving.Afterall, according to him, he wasn't part of the squabble.'Listen here!' The woman repeated again in a high shrilled voice. Everyone faced her. Most were sober by now.'This camp has been running for twenty-five years now....,' Someone gave a low whistle. Twenty-five years was a long time. Snow glared at Reece. He rolled his eyes at her.'And never in all my years of being here has the slads who were sent here risen up to the extent of fighting one another in my presence,' her voice was croaky. A bit of smoke had gotten into her throat during the hullabaloo. Some people murmured,'Sorry ma'am,' but she completely ignored them. 'And never has anyone been sent here without returning with a heart for team work!' she went
Their CIN glared at them really hard. Miranda walked up to her. 'I got here as quickly as I could,' she told Miranda. Squad 4 shuffled and fidgeted endlessly.'Right. You can see what they've done. Others too were involved of course but they played a major part too,' Miranda informed Squad 4's CIN.'CIN Lillian actually....,' Wallis started but quickly quietened down when she threw him a death-threatening glare.Lillian faced Miranda again. 'I'm terribly sorry and I apologise on behalf of Squad 4. Don't worry...,' she glanced at Squad 4 with a hardened gaze. '....They'll get what they deserve.'They all shuddered visibly except Edward who just looked away.'Alright. Your punishment starts now,' Lillian pointed to the old car she hired. 'With that!'Annabelle held back a groan. The previous squad had also started their punis
'I'm dropping you all off in your various homes before leaving for my mission,' Aiden informed his companions in the car.'Who'll train us when you're gone?' Ryan asked quietly. Aiden looked through the rear-view mirror. His sliver eyes met Ryans' blue ones.He focused back on the road.'The E-rank exam is in four months time,' he said simply. Andrew paused in his typing and turned to look at Aiden. Ethan's ears perked up. Aiden smiled inwardly. He had all their attention.'Normally I ought to be here to train you four, but I got an urgent mission out of the blues and Coach Gwen won't be around. She's been gone since last week on a mission that is bound to take some while. I'm not sure when she'll be back but I can affirm that I'll be back two days before the exam ' he offered as he drove on, heading towards Andrew and Suzannes' neighborhood.'What do you want us to do
The alarm clock beeped.A brunette stirred lazily on the bed. She tried to find the snooze button all to no avail. She clenched her hand into a fist and knocked the alarm clock away from her bedside table, sending it up in the air and crashing into her room's wall, making a big dent and destroying the alarm clock along with it.Suzanne turned to her other side to resume her sleep. This was Herotapolis, where the heroes lived. In this city there lived real, breathing heroes. You could tell already by the name of the city right?Hero League was an organization that pooled together normal people and trained them to become heroes. From chasing of bank robbers to extinguishing of fires in burning buildings, to serving as body guards to important people as well as getting stranded animals down from trees, or odd places, the heroes were ever availa
Suzanne yawned as she got off her bed.It had been a week since the E-rank exam. Their E-rank crest had been given to Coach Gwen but she said they had one final minor test to take before they were given their final E-ranks and then they'll meet their M.D corp three days after.Suzanne got her brush and combed her hair.Ryan was discharged the previous day so she knew he would be present today. She smiled at the thought. She had to look her best today. She got out her ribbon and packed her hair in a neat pony tail. She decorated her hair with her accessories.'Wassup, loser,' Shane leaned on her door post.'Hey Shane,' She decided to start ignoring the loser stuff ever since she heard that Shane had followed the guards that were taking Kyle away to give him a big talking to then he had landed a punch...or had attempted to at least.'Andrew's
'The judges have decided that Kyle Quole will be scratched out of the hero-league program due to the behavior he exibited today. But this decision shouldn't affect squad 12 so they shall be assigned a new Slad to join their group. Marissa Cartwell,' the Tifex said.'She has all her complete points and therefore can not be a hinderance to the team,' he concluded on that matter.'Suzanne O'Izzy, the judges have decided you are granted a win due to the situation on ground. Hence your battle with Kyle is crowned with you as the winner,' he stated.Suzanne couldn't stop her wide grin. Man, was she lucky!'And since Ryan Ziantez and Caleb Marsh had been shot, both will be given a pass too, however Andrew Frankstin and Lucas Will who remains standing will have the last battle. Their battle shall hold and the total counting shall rest on their shoulders.'The Tifex announced.
The crowd watched in open mouthed amazement.'Jesus, please help Suzanne,' Aiden prayed silently, his head bowed. It was the only thing he could do.Kevin glanced at him before facing the ring again. 'You sure are a terrible CIN, Aiden,' Kevin chuckled. 'I'm sure when CIN Rodrick was your age, he sure did a better job.'Aiden rolled his eyes.Suzanne yelped as a bullet whizzed past her.'He has a gun!' she shrieked, cowing on the spot. The comentator didn't know what to say. In all his years of moderating in contests, this was the first time someone wasn't fighting back.Shane watched as his twin ran around the ring while her bulky opponent, who was assigned to face her, fired off flames from the second gun he held.'Stay still!' Kyle hissed at her as he pursued her.
The noise of the crowd had quietened down. Now most eyes, if not all, were on the Squads that stood in a straight line assembled below. The Tifex moved about as he addressed the audience and the Slads.'Here are the instructions, listen up because I'm going to say this only once and that's it.' The Tifex said to the squads. He gestured to the field.'Over there, behind those red lines, the different squads facing each other will stand. But note, one person faces off only a person from the other team. And the match between the two will last for just a minute. The person that remains standing after the one minute time laspe will be the winner.'He looked back at the judges and nodded stiffly.'Since there are four members in each team, each team member will face the person he's facing opposite on the other line. If the time is up a
The squads that passed the first round were all assembled on a straight line and were made to face the panel that came from the headquarters. At their right was a battle ground with red lines marked close to the end of both sides, leaving a vast amount of space for dueling in the middle. A Tifex stood in the middle of the mini-field to act as a referee for the contestants. At the four corners of the huge wall, lots of seats were raised on a higher podium so as to prevent the fighters from reaching the onlookers.Defense mechanism shields were also put up in a form of glass around the places the audience would seat.Hence it was assured to be a safe match. The audience could easily watch the match below them without any worry of being injured by the fighters. The judges had a separate seat from everyone else. The CINs' seats were some feet behind the judges
Andrew stopped using his laptop and looked up. It all makes sense now. He thought. He then snorted as he looked past Ryan who gave him a puzzled expression which was ignored. Andrew stood up and headed for the door. He walked ten feet away from it and stopped, a frown of concentration was deeply etched on his face.'What are you doing?' Ryan asked with mild interest. Andrew continued to ignore him.Andrew bent down and felt the ground. 'Just as I thought,' he muttered to himself.'What is it Andrew?' Ryan asked again. He walked up to Andrew's side.Just then Suzanne and Ethan ran up to them, breathless.'Where's the package?' Ryan asked them both, extending a hand towards them swiftly. Ethan shrugged and raked his hand through his hair. 'We don't have it. We didn't see anything.'Ryan's gaze hardened as he appraised Ethan and Suzanne coldly.
'How are we going to find anything in this vast land?' Ryan wondered aloud.Andrew was deep in thought too.'And the others must not find our package! It's an impossible task!' Suzanne wailed.Ethan cupped his hands over both his eyes like a binocular. 'I can't even see the end of this land....,' he whistled. 'Then there's the forest and mountains. Quite an impossible task, I'll say,' he concluded warily.Andrew paced around, deep in thought. An hour is hardly enough for searching. We could search for months and not find it....there's more to it than this. He continued thinking hard.We are allowed to find other Squads' packages...that must mean something. Andrew got out his laptop and started working on it.'We are doomed! Doomed I tell you!' Suzanne stamped her foot on the ground. The ground shook everytime she brought her leg down. 'Doomed
Suzanne shuffled from one feet to the other nervously. Aiden had picked them all up so that no one would turn up late. They all stood at the entrance of the extremely large hall of Super Hero High.Aiden flashed his ID card for the perusal of the guards that were stationed at the backstage entrance for only the contestants. They turned and entered. A small table was at the entrance of the main hall. That room led to various sections and other compartments of the hall but all entrances had a guard beside them. They had to check in with one of the Tifex. Those are the instructions that are in charge of every examination. The main room was beginning to get filled up as more squads trooped in with their CINs.A Tifex headed towards them.'I'm Silverstin. The CIN of squad 10. We've registered since two days ago,' Aiden told him. The r
