Poison darts

Chapter 9

              Venetta’s Pov

 “Wha— what the hell do you think you are doing! Let me go.” I screeched at him trying to wiggle out of his strong hold on me, my heart beating against my chest rapidly. 

Louis didn’t bother looking at me, heck! He didn’t even act like I existed or like he was currently pinning my freaking body to his muscular ones. 

“Leave.” He ordered but it wasn’t to me, it was to Leah who looked like she wanted to cut me into smaller bits, God! I wish he was referring to me, i would do it in a heart beat. 

“So you are picking this skinny thing over me?” She looked at me up and down like she was trying to put a stamp on her insult, my eyes twitched with anger.

“Excuse you!?” I rose a brow, trying to pull away from Louis’s hold on my body but he just held on tighter, his brows now furrowed, like i gave two fucks about him. “Tell your needy mate to let go of me and I’d show you who’s skinny.” 

“Leave. Or i will make you, Leah.” Louis repeated again, earning a glare from Leah and an eyeroll from me, Leah turned around, muttering words under her breath as she walked away, her guards and maids following behind her. 

“Let go of me.” I said immediately, grabbing his wrist and dragging it off my body. It was easy to do and in i was now standing opposite him, trying to put enough space as needed between us. Something deep down told me i was only able to break away because he allowed me to. 

“Last warning about your mouth, Cariño. The next time, it would not be with words.” His eyes bore into mine with a blank expression, making it difficult to know exactly what he was thinking and that was scary. Although i would never admit to be scared of him. “Follow me.” 

He had continued walking and after passing lots of smaller houses that probably belonged to the council officals, we finally reached the main house of the old Alpha, Louis’s father. Two guards stood on either sides of the pillar that guarded the main entrance but they were like stones. 

“It’s time for you daily check up. Go in there and do your part of the deal.” He nodded to the door and i took some steps backwards before crossing my arms. 

“This deal doesn’t favor me in any way. Considering i was kidnapped here and if i choose to not help, your father will die.” 

His eyebrow rose the slightest bit so it was almost impossible to notice. “Are you threatening me, Cariño?” A slight smirk on the corner of his lips. “I couldn’t care less about you dying but it would be a good think for you to know that if you die without healing him, you wouldn’t have to worry about leaving that petty little fake family you formed in the human world, they will all join you in heaven the next day so think about your words carefully next time before you sprout them.” 

My throat felt like it was burning, anger, fear and every other emotions I didn’t think i was capable of feeling caused goosebumps on my skin as i forced the words out of my mouth, dragging the letters.  “You. Are. A. Monster.”

“So i’ve heard.” He shrugs. “Now get inside there and do your part of the deal or I’ll carry you inside myself.”

Taking a deep breath, i began walking inside, climbing the stair case that led up to him room, emotions being bottled up inside. Opening the curtain, the smell of the forbidden herb first hits me, the herb that had caused the Alpha’s father the sickness in the first place, i gulped. I felt like it was wicked of me to not tell Louis that his father  was being poisoned but that was the only thing i had to hold on to for my freedom, the only weapon i had, giving it away would be foolish of me. 

“Miss Vennetta…” a soft female voice called out and that was when i noticed the maid who was kneeling beside Mr Kelvin. Louis’s father, she had a white towel in her hand and a bowl filled with water beside her, she was cleaning him up, I studied the bowl, that seemed to be where the herb was coming from, did this maid know that the bowl she was holding was currently poisoned? 

“Hi…” I responded to her earlier words and she squeezed the towel in the bowl one last time before standing up and bowing to me. “I can come back another time.” I gave her a swift smile but she shook her head.

“No, no need for that, Miss. i am done already.” She smiled genuinely and walked out, when the water bowl passed me, the herb scent got stronger, she looked oblivious to what it was, to be honest, that herb was made in the werewolf world so a werewolf couldn’t get the scent of it, i had no idea why i was able to but i guessed it it was because i had already muted my wolf side. 

Taking a deep breath and walking over to where he was currently laying, i began checking his pulse and some other things that were essential to know how badly the sickness had gotten. 

“Duty comes first, Louis…” Mr Kelvin mumbled, his eyes closed, sweat beads forming on his forehead even though that maid had just finished cleani it. He was hallucinating, that was one of the side effects of that herb. 

“How is he doing?” Deep masculine voice asked from the doorway and i didn’t need to look up to know who it was. 

“You are currently blocking the free passage of fresh air for him by standing at the door, please leave.” I replied sarcastically without sparing him a glance, i was still mad at him for touching me without my permission earlier today. 

“I asked you a question, Cariño.” His voice was calm, like his words weren’t trying to stir up trouble, would he really hurt me with his father laying here? 

“And I answered you, did i not?” I gave him a quick glare before my focus was back to the body that was barely breathing. “And stop calling me that nick name, Save it for your wif—“ 

Before i could complete the sentence, hard hands grabbed my neck and my back came in contact with the wall right behind to me, he had used werewolf speed and now, my back was pinned to the wall, his right hand wrapped around my neck in a choke hold and his eyes glaring into mine, his eye color had changed to black now, making shivers run down my spine in fear. 

“W—what are you doing?” I tried to form the words but with the way my entire body was trembling, it felt almost impossible, i placed my hands on his wrist that held my neck and tried to pull it down but he didn’t budge, heck, he didn’t even seem to notice, i felt his fingers trail from a the down side of my thigh slowly, drawing circles on it’s wake as it kept going upwards, my entire body tightened and i kept trying to pushing him off. Why the hell was he touching me! My chest was constricted, my head blank and screaming bloody murderer.

“I warned you about what would happen if you mouthed off to me, Cariño.” His head bent to the side a slight bit to meet my gaze since he had to look down at me, considering the height difference. “Now unless you want to put those lips into good use, keep up with the attitude.” 

“I can’t bre—“ i tried to say, my neck felt like it was constricting, my head was banging and my eyes were seeing blood now. I shoved more on his wrist, hitting his chest so hard. “LOIUS! S— Stop!”

Calmly, he took his hand off my neck and i sank to the ground, pantly heavily as i inhaled as much air as i could carry, more than enough actually, God! This guy was actually crazy.

“You were pardoned today, Ven. But the next time, it won’t just be choking. Now let’s try that again, Shall we?” He folded his arms and took sole steps backwards to give me my space. “How is he doing?”

My eyes bored into his with instance hatred, but if i wanted to leave this stupid place alive, i had to tame myself. “Still same, the medicines haven’t kicked in yet.” My voice cane out forced, like it was still recovering from the intense choking. 

“That wasn’t so hard now, was it?” He folded his arms and I wanted to shout a curse word in his face but I thought better of it, i could only escape this hell hole if i was alive.  “You can meet me up later to discuss the new rules of our agreement.” He stated and walked out of the room, leaving his sick father and I alone. 

I took in deep breaths to calm down my racing nerves before my eyes darted to the almost lifeless body on the small bed. If he dies, i doubt Louis would let me leave anymore, sadly, he was my one way ticket out of this place and i had to keep him alive by all means, even if it would put a target on my back by those trying to kill him and considering the assassination that almost happened yesterday night, they were already feeling threatened and have started taking moves on me.

I had to be smart. I had to get out of this place by all means, i owed My kids and Tommy that at least.
