CHAPTER 6

For the passed three days, we didn't do anything aside from snorkelling, swimming, scuba driving and bar hopping.

After having fun in the beach, we started to tour around the Mykonos. We get back to the Mykonos Town to and went to the lower windmills.

The windmills are among the most recognized landmarks of the island and one of the most famous Mykonos attractions along with Little Venice. For many centuries the mills used to refine grain with the help of the high winds that blow on the island.

With the progress of technology, the use of the mills declined, and now the ones that survived are used as private homes or museums. The most famous ones are the Kato Myloi ( Lower Windmills) that stand on a hill facing.Only seven of them have been preserved. I highly recommend that you walk up the hill in Chora and visit the windmill of Boni that is now a museum. The view from up there is incredible, and it’s also one of the best places to watch the sunset.

The lower windmills are breath taking. Hindi naman siya masyadong malaki katulad ng sa Ilocos pero maganda rin naman ito.

Nang matapos naming libutin ang kabuuan ng lugar na iyon ay napagpasyahan naming maglibot sa Mykonos Town para maging pamilyar sa lugar na ito. Kailangan naming maging pamilyar dito dahil isang buwan may dalawang linggo kaming mananatili rito bago lumipat ng ibang bansa.

We saw winding alleys of Mykonos town with the white houses, blue doors and windows, and colorful bougainvilleas is a must-do in Mykonos. Head to the area of Matogiania with the chic shops and trendy bars. The place to be in the center of the town.

Mykonos has one of the best shopping scenes in Greece. In the alleyways of the town, you can find the most famous designer labels, jewelry shops, leather goods, and art shops along with very attractive shops selling traditional products and souvenirs. If you have money, the possibilities are endless.

Medyo marami na rin ang binili namain kaya napagpasyahan na naming huminto muna sa pamimili.

Matapos maglibot ay umuwi na kami sa bagong hotel na tinutuluyan namin. Sa sobrang pagod namin ay sa loob na rin kami ng hotel kumain.

Kinabukasan ay napagpasyahan naman naming mamangka. We took a boat trip to the archaeological side of Delos.

The island of Delos is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is considered one of the most important Archaeological Sites in Greece. According to Mythology, it was the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis. The island is now uninhabited, but you can visit it by taking one of the many ships that depart daily from Mykonos old harbor except Mondays that the archaeological site is closed.

Matapos mamangka ay nagpalipas kami ng oras sa paglalakad sa old port. The picturesque old harbor of Mykonos is a great area to walk around especially at night. There are many cafes and restaurants in the area overlooking the sea. From there you can also catch the ferry to Delos island. The old port is also home to the famous Pelikan of Mykonos.

Gustuhin ko man na gabi na lang pumunta rito ay hindi rin maaari, dahil ay mga bagay pa kaming dapat gawin mamaya.

Linggo na, kaya napagpasyahan namin ipagpaliban na muna ang paggagala. Itinuon namin ang atensyon naming dalawa sa pagdalo sa misa. One of the main characteristics of Mykonos is the abundance of churches that can be found scattered around the island. Some say that the number of churches and chapels are almost 800 and about 60 of them can be spotted in Mykonos town (Chora).

Sa paglilibot namin ay hindi ko na mabilang kung ilang ang nakita ko. Pero may isang simbahan na nakaagaw ng atensyon ko. Kto ang  Church of Panagia Paraportiani in the town of Kastro.

Thi is one of the most beautiful churches on the island, its white-washed walls reflecting the sunlight and its vantage point offering stunning views over the Aegean Sea. The complex comprises five different church buildings which have been built and added to over the years, and would once have stood next to the entrance to the island’s main castle, hence the name ‘Paraportiani’ meaning ‘standing next to the entrance door’.

Kaya kung bibigyan ako ng isa pang pagkakataon na ikasal muli kay Kurt ay gusto kong dito ganapin. Pero mukhang malabo, mahihirapan kami. Dahil hindi lahat ay pinapayagan rito.

Martes nang magpunta kami sa isang archaeological museum dito sa Mykonos.  They say that the Archaeological Museum of Mykonos is a real must-see for history lovers with finds like columns, vases, vessels, and sculptures on display. While it is quite small, there are some really interesting pieces like the intricately detailed mortuary urn displaying the story of the Trojan War.

Kahapon sana namin pupuntahan ito pero dahil sarado ay hindi na naman itinuloy. Dahil doon ay hindi na kami gumala kahapon. Nanatili lang kami sa hotel para magpahinga.

We also went to the Mykonos Maritime Museum. This is another of the island’s small, traditional museums with exhibits displaying everything from historic naval documents and ancient maps as well as maritime tools and ship models dating from the early Minoan period all the way until the beginning of the 20th century. There is even an old version of the Armenistis Lighthouse lamp in the garden which is a lovely highlight.

The next day, we went to the Armenistis Lighthouse located in the Cape Armenistis region of the island. This old lighthouse stands on the edge of the cliffside overlooking the Aegean and is still in use today, with its octagonal tower and bright light beaming out to sea every evening.

This view was breath taking. Parang gusto ko ng tumira dito. Na para bang nakakawala ng pagod ang lahat.

We took a bike tour and visited Ano Mera Village. Located in the heart of the island, Ano Mera is a village centered around a large square with typical white-washed houses and local cafes.

The Monastery of Panagia Tourliani is also situated nearby. This monastery complex features cloistered accommodation, a church of The Virgin, a marble belfry, and an elaborately-decorated water spigot in the courtyard and is a must-see 

After our bike tour, we stayed at the Mykonos Vioma Organic Farm for a wine tasting accompanied by traditional Mykonian products, cheeses (kopanisti, ladotyro), rusks, hams (loutza), and the Greek salad. The farm produces its own organic wine and honey and it is set in a quiet area in Mykonos countryside surrounded by vineyards, and farm animals.

For our last three day, we did a day cruise around Delos and Rhenia Island. We first sailed around Delos and had a view of the archaeological site from the boat. We then continued towards Rhenia island where we stopped for a swim and snorkeling in its pristine waters. On our next stop, our captain Artemis prepared for us a fantastic meal with grilled chicken and vegetables, Greek salad, and more. In the afternoon we returned to the harbor after enjoying a great day sailing in crystal clear waters.

The next day, gabi na lang kami gumala. Mykonos is a party island and has the best nightlife in Greece. We started our evening by watching the sunset and sipping a cocktail in Little Venice and as the night progresses you can visit the legendary Scandinavian bar, the gay-friendly Jackie O, Cavo Paradiso or you can head to one of the famous beach bars like Nammos, Scorpios and Jackie O on the beach. The options are endless.

We took our time and get waisted. Nang medyo malasing na ako ay nag-aya na akong umuwi. Si Kurt naman ay marami na ring nainom pero wala pa siyang tama. Mataas kasi ang alcohol tolerance niya. Na siyang kinaiinggitan ko.
