In the Lion’s Den

Emma sat in the cold, sterile room, her hands trembling as she clutched her purse. The walls felt like they were closing in, and the harsh overhead light made her feel exposed and vulnerable. She couldn’t believe she was in a police station, being questioned about crimes she had no knowledge of.

A tall, stern-faced detective entered the room, followed by a younger, more empathetic-looking one. They introduced themselves and took seats across from her.

“Mrs. Alden, we need to talk about some serious allegations against you,” the older detective began. “There are documents linking you to insider trading and manipulation of stock markets. Can you explain these?”

Emma’s heart raced. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’ve never been involved in any illegal activities.”

The younger detective leaned forward, his eyes kinder. “We need you to help us understand, Mrs. Alden. Can you tell us about your financial dealings and any investments made in your name?”
