Echoes of Desperation

David sat alone in his dimly lit apartment, nursing a glass of whiskey. It had been a month since the confrontation with Michael, and the silence from his end was more unsettling than any threat. As he stared at the amber liquid, memories of Scarlet flooded his mind. Her voice echoed in his ears: “Thank you, David. Thank you for making me live the best day of my life. You will always be the Prince Charming of my own fairytale.” He whispered to himself, “Stupid girl… why did I let you go?”

In an attempt to drown his sorrows, David drank until his vision blurred. The silence was suffocating, the waiting unbearable. Suddenly, a frantic knock on his door jolted him from his thoughts. He stumbled to open it, revealing Ethan, Scarlet’s brother, looking devastated.

“David, I came to tell you... they're dropping Scarlet’s case,” Ethan said, his voice breaking. “They found a suicide note at the scene. They’re claiming she wrote it, but I know it’s a lie.”
