A Love Deceived

Michael’s POV

I stepped out of the operating room, exhausted but satisfied. The surgery had been a success. As I approached the anxious parents in the waiting room, I put on my best reassuring smile.

"Your daughter is doing well," I said. "The operation went smoothly, and she's in recovery now."

The relief on their faces was palpable. "Thank you, Dr. Thompson," the mother said, tears of gratitude in her eyes.

I nodded and left them to their joy, heading down the hallway toward my office. Halfway there, my phone rang. It was Jessica.

"Hey, Michael," she said, her voice soft and warm. "How was your day?"

I couldn't help but smile. "Busy, as always. How are you feeling?"

"Better," she replied. "Much better. I can't wait for you to come home."

"Neither can I," I said, genuinely looking forward to seeing her. "I'll be there soon."

We exchanged a few more affectionate words before hanging up. As I reached my office, I entered and sank into the couch, letting out a long sigh. My mind drifted
