Chapter 3 Flash back ii

I have brought your food. I bought your favorite meal. Vivian pushed the knob and said, 

She didn’t hear any response from him.

"Benjamin, she called out to him again and went to his bedside. 

"Oh my gosh, Benjamin, Benjamin, Benjamin, wake up." She shook him, but there was no response.

She rushed and called the doctor.

 "He lost consciousness because he had lost a lot of blood. He wanted to commit suicide. Thank God he is still alive. Don’t worry, he will wake up very soon. " The doctor explained and patted her shoulders to reassure her. 

Two hours later, Benjamin woke up. He thought he was dead, but when he saw Vivian standing beside him, realization hit him. 

"How can I be alive? I want to die. Why am I still alive?" he asked himself when he woke up. 

“Benjamin, calm down. Even death has rejected you. If it was your time to do it, you would have died already, but since it wasn’t your time to die, you have come back alive. You should be grateful to God for at least keeping you alive. Let me call the doctor." She said and shook her head in frustration.

“We thank God you are alive. Mr. Benjamin, do you know how cold the mortuary is? And do you know how the dead wish to be alive? Cheer up, Mr. Benjamin, there might be a miracle somewhere someday” The doctor said with hope. 

"Yes, the doctor is right, we are all by your side. I am with you and I will forever be with you. To me, you are not useless and incompetent. You are still the mighty Benjamin. Don’t worry, you will get used to it. You should be happy that you are still alive. There is hope for the living. " Vivian's words comforted him so much. He found a new light and a new hope. ... how he wished he had loved her and treated her well.

Ever since he woke up, none of his family has come to visit him. The family said that he spent everything on them and worked hard to make them keep going. They have disappeared, like they never existed. 

But the girl he didn’t love has been the one to stay by his side. He wouldn’t give up on his legs; he would still keep on searching and finding ways to cure them. Maybe there might be a miracle somewhere. He comforted himself.

He was discharged from the hospital after being admitted a month ago. When he first came home, for the first three months, everything was alright, and they all respected him and treated him with respect. Even though he had accepted the fact, he wasn’t ready to go out. He didn’t want to be mocked, so he stayed in the house all the time. He did all the work himself in the house. He signed all the documents and held meetings in his room. 

He didn’t know what happened, but his employees started behaving strangely. At first they gazed at him pitifully, and then they started to look at him mockingly. It got to a point where they would talk back at him and mock him. He didn’t understand what was going on. They gradually lost respect for him. 

"You can’t tell us what to do. Just focus on your legs and stand on your feet. For now, you are a useless boss. There is no need to follow your orders. That was what they usually insulted him with. He became frustrated and stopped holding meetings with them. Gradually, he isolated himself from the world and made his wife his partner in all business activities. 

After a month, Vivian came back from work and she wasn’t happy. She sat on the couch with a depressed expression. 

"Vivian, my dear, what happened and why that look?" He asked her. 

"Could you believe the employees insulted me and disobeyed my instructions? They told me I am not the boss, so I can’t boss them around. I mean, I represent you, so why must they look down on me?" she cried.

“It's alright, we will find a way to solve the problem. Relax. " 

"Really, but how do we find a solution to it?" Is there a solution? " She doubted and thought for a while. 

I have got an idea. Why not give me the power to start a company? I mean, they signed a document that said, I am in charge of everything and maybe they might change." She suggested

 

Benjamin thought for a while and agreed with her. He didn’t doubt her. So he didn’t have any negative thoughts about it. He doesn’t care about giving the company to her. In the end, they are one person, so what is hers is also his. He had wanted her to give birth to a son, but after three years of marriage, she had never conceived. Let’s wait upon the Lord. There might be a miracle someday.

He signed the documents and gave her the power. A month later, Vivian started revealing her true colors. She started maltreating him. 

"Vivian, can you please put me on the bed?" 

"Can't you see I am working? Call the servant."

Can you please tell the servant to bring a glass of water? " 

"They are not your servants, they are human beings, and go and fetch the water on your own." 

"Where is my dinner?" he asked one of the maids. 

“Your dinner, so I look like a cook right? The only respected person here is Madam. If I were you, I would have committed suicide already. Can’t you see you are no longer the powerful Benjamin who everybody trampled under your feet? My friend, get up and go and cook your own food. " He walked over him. 

These were the most heartbreaking words he had ever heard. He cried his eyes out that day. He regretted having listened to her. He trusted her, but it seemed humans were not to be trusted. 

That day, his wife brought a man home. He introduced her as his fiancée. 

"Mr. Benjamin, I am getting married and I need you to leave my house."

"What! "You are driving me away from my own house?"  he said painfully. 

"Those documents you signed state that everything is now mine. You have no business, no car, nothing. I can leave with a useless man, so get out of my house." 

“Sign the divorce papers and leave.” 

Benjamin signed with no choice and called out to his name again.

"Vivian," he called out to her.

Vivian's boyfriend  said to him, "You are not fit to even call her name. She is my woman. You are useless. You are like a piece of trash. You know, even the wheel chair is more valuable than you. Come and drive this man away. He instructed them and drove him out of the house with nothing. "
