NICO D’ANGELO’S POV
It was here… It was right here in this study room when the doctor diagnosed my 3-year-old daughter with bone marrow failure. A genetic disease found dormant in my DNA, she got it from me. My heart shattered for her and I swore to do everything in my power to make her life easier. And now it's been an extra 3 years of battling this wicked disease. At first, we could manage it, my wife, her mother Lola was a match for her. Not only was my gentle daughter battling a rare disease she was also cursed with the rarest blood type in the world. Rhnull ….. the golden blood. Lola couldn't take it anymore, this is not the life I promised her. So when she decided to run off with her therapist I let her, as long as she kept her part of donating to our daughter she could run off with the devil for all I care. I loved her goddammit! She was the love of my life, now she's dead. Found shot dead Alongside her lover, they said his wife did it. With just one per cent of the world having this blood type I have to hunt down every person, just to save my Sophia. My grandmother has been heaven-sent, caring for Sophia even when I'm too ashamed to watch her suffer. And now she's lying in the hospital bed…. “Sir sir!” one of my guards called as he came rushing in. He looked disturbed, “Sir the hospital just called, your daughter! They need you to come right now” I bolted out of the room, pushing the young man out of the way. As I reached the stairs I found my anxious grandmother waiting by the car. “Did you find another donor?” she inquired, gripping my shirt tightly as her scared eyes pierced my soul. “I have to go grandma, it's about Sophia” I mentioned before motioning to my guard to take her into the house. “Is she okay? Poor child” I heard her soft prayers as she departed, I got into the car and just as the driver was about to move I saw my consigliere motion to the driver to pull the glass down. “ Lorenzo, What is it?” “Sir you have to be careful, there have been some talks in town, it seems Tony Morello has been off the radar for far too long, it's suspicious” I paused, “Not right now Lorenzo please, take care of it, I have to get to Sophia” I waved him off and soon we were well on our way to New York's finest hospital, Hopfields General. As we moved I noticed a car closely following behind, I tried to catch a glimpse of the driver but he swerved just in time. Someone is following me, “We are being followed find another route” The driver nodded and soon we had taken a sharp left and soon the car followed. “We have to lose them” I instructed, “yes boss” With that, he turned sharply at the roundabout and soon we were home free or so I thought. Just as we were about to take the next right the same black car came out of nowhere following us and soon someone had stuck out a gun from behind and was shooting at us. “Shit!” I heard a swerve behind us, I turned to see a car had been hit out of the way. And they were now right behind us. “Nico, I'm back!” I heard a familiar yell before laughing maniacally. “Sir it's Tony Morello sir!” my driver yelled, he groaned in pain as a bullet pierced his shoulder. “I thought we sent an assassin after him, how the hell is that bastard still alive?” I swung forward taking hold of the wheels from the driver just before he fell unconscious. I swerved left and prayed that I veered off the road safely, but we hit a coming car causing it to collide with a cab coming fast behind it. Soon it was all over, Nico had driven by, his manic laughter ringing in my ears as I managed to get out of the car. I heard a man shouting for help, I ran towards the cab and that was when he pointed to the back, where an unconscious woman lay wet and bleeding. I took her out of the cab safely and that was when it struck me. I'd seen her before, what is Logan’s wife doing out here? “Are you okay?” I asked, her eyes opened slightly but I doubted she could see me. The ambulance came not long after and we were taken to Hopfield General. It has been 4 days now and both Sophie and her have been stabilized, giving me enough time to think about finding another donor for my daughter. I walked to her room where she slept, I noticed that no one had come to look for her. Why hasn't Logan come? What’s going on with the Davis-Malone, those ruthless assholes finally got rid of her. “Oh sir you are here!” someone called from behind. I turned and it was Sophia’s doctor Dr Renata. “No one has shown up for her in days, it's so generous of you to pay all her medical bills Mr D’angelo” I nodded, “It's the least I could do, is she okay?” The doctor shook her head, “She lost her baby….” I was stunned, “her baby?” Shit, she was pregnant, the accident I caused, did that kill her baby? “She will be fine, her scans and tests all came out good, but that's not the good news sir” She smiled taking out an envelope from her coat, she handed it to me. “Blood tests we ran show she’s a match with your daughter’s blood type” I glared at the paper and back to the doctor. “What!” I exclaimed, “Yes sir, but we will need her consent for donation but so far we haven't seen any signs of her regaining consciousness” she mentioned. “I've got to wake her up, maybe work out a deal with her” I explained before opening her door. The doctor's attention was called away, how do I wake her up? I looked down at her perfectly resting face, every detail was beautiful, from her brown locks to her full lashes and down to her plump lips. Her chest rose and rested and I took a closer look. And that’s when she woke up. After a while, the doctor assessed her and she thanked me for saving her life. Little does she know I'm the one who put it in danger, but that's a discussion for another day. Right now I need to cash in on this favour she just promised. For Sophia… I paced the room thinking about how to lay it on softly when my daughter’s nurse ran in. “Sir, you have to come right now, her heartbeat has stopped!” I panicked, lunged at her and grabbed the arms of a confused woman. “It's now or Never we need your blood!”PEARL’S POV~“Please you have to save her please!” he pleaded, his voice filled with worry as his grip tightened around me. “sir!” the nurse called, his eyes were fearful.Who is this woman I'm being begged to save? His lover, his wife?“Sir you are going to crush her!” the doctor yelled before pulling him away from me.He bolted out of the room leaving me in a complete daze. What the hell is going on? How can I help this man who just saved my life?“Relax pearl, you are safe, sorry about Mr D’angelo, he is just under a lot of stress” she continued, I nodded.“But I don't understand. Am I free to go?” I inquired, I heard a loud sound and then rounds of electric shock before someone finally heaved a sigh of relief when a different sound came back.“So she’s been stabilized then?” the doctor asked, leaving the room, she didn't answer my question, am I a prisoner here or am I free to go?“Doctor” I called out to her, she pretended not to hear, and so I raised my voice higher. “ yes Mis
Pearl’s pov~“What beautiful breasts you have” I heard a voice say before cold hands fondled them gently. The voice sounded soft, like a dream.I've heard this voice before….I tried to stir but my body was numb and it felt like I was bound up.“I wonder what happens if …..” the voice continued before I imagined her tracing her fingers down my body, but instead I felt something cold trickling down.Like heavy metal, it felt like a gun...I gasped in horror, realising what was happening, I opened my eyes and almost immediately I closed them as bright light penetrated deep into my eyes.I groaned in pain before turning away, and slowly I opened them again. As soon as I realised I'd been kidnapped, I saw a gun pointing at the middle of my face.A woman’s bright smile welcomed me as she held the other side of the gun firmly.“We were having so much fun, you've ruined it and now I've got no choice but to kill you if you don't do what we say” she grinned happily.Fear overtook me, I looked
Pearl’s pov~ “I don't need your protection, Nico, look I'm sorry about your daughter’s condition, she’s a sweet little girl but I've got problems of my own and I have my hands full, you need to let me go” The words left my lips like a dagger and I felt guilt chirping at me but the D’angelos and whatever is going on with them are not any concerns of mine. “Hmmmm” he started before gesturing for me to sit down. “My enemies Kidnapping you is the least of your problems Pearlita….” “Pearl” I subtly corrected him before sitting down. “My name is Pearl,” I continued before crossing my hands around my chest. He smirked before sitting on the sofa opposite me, with a poise and aura I could never understand. “I know,” he affirmed, giving me a knowing nod before looking down at my lips. “But pearlita suits you more, you remind me of someone, a woman…. Her name was Pearlita” his voice was soothing, they calmed me in ways I could never understand. How could a man who looked like a plain da
Pearl’s pov~ “So you've got the package with you?” I heard the line on the other end ask, Nico looked at me, I was confused, is he talking about me right now? Am I the package? As he spoke into the phone I realised his voice kept sounding like a woman’s voice, and now I was more confused. “Send me the drop-off location” and with that he ended the call, I was ready to bolt when he pulled me back laughing. With the wind in my hair, they blew into his face revealing corners I didn't take note of, like how chiselled his jaws were or how his beards connected in perfect unison. “I'm sorry about that,” he chimed, I glared at him, “What the hell was that nice, are you trying to hand me off?” I inquired further. He shook his head, that was Renata’s phone, I had her voice cloned to speak to her contact, I'm sorry you thought I was handing you off” he continued. I sighed, “you scared me,” I said looking away, he touched my chin, lightly raising my eyes to meet his, and for a brief second,
PEARL’S POV~I felt like the ground would open up and swallow me, one minute she was holding my hand and the next, she was lost in the crowd. How do I explain this to Nico?Frantically I plunged myself into the heavy crowd, screaming her name, I asked everyone I could but no one saw her.I realised I didn't have a phone and couldn't reach anyone for help. I ran to the swing hoping she’d gone ahead of me.I saw a girl, the same height as her, the same dress too. “Sophie!” I called out happily as I ran towards the little girl but when I turned her she wasn't the one, she screamed alerting her mother who quickly grabbed me and shoved me aside.“what are you doing!” she yelled.I raised my hands to her. “I'm sorry, I'm so sorry I'm looking for my…. A little girl, I came in with her, I lost her in the crowd” I explained, it took a lot more convincing as people were already starting to gather around us.“No! You tried to grab my daughter! You wanted to kidnap her!” she kept yelling and no
PEARL’S POV~ “Get out of the car ma'am” came the guard’s voice, Sophie clung to me, scared out of her mind, what child wouldn't, but I know one thing for sure: I'm not leaving this vehicle until I get my answer. “This isn't the beach house, who are you? Where is this place?” I asked, leaning forward till holding on firmly to Sophie’s hand. “There’s someone inside who wants to see you, both of you” he replied, before reaching for his holster. “So get out,” he added. I couldn't help but feel, this had something to do with Nico and what he was talking about earlier, I started to panic, what do I do? How can I keep Sophie out of harm’s way? So I did the next thing that came to my head, I lunged at the driver, whose strength was overpowering but I held on, “Sophie grab his gun!” Sophie reached for his gun and soon gave it to me, “Get out of the car!” I yelled, pointing the gun at him. “You don't know what you are doing, put the gun down it's dangerous” he stated, angry he hadn't se
PEARL’S POV~I had seen a Minka before, only in movies, a traditional Japanese home,It was beautiful. It's so sad I was going into one with my hands bound and my mouth gagged.“Wait here” the guard instructed, holding me in place, where else could I possibly go?, soon a door was parted in front of me and he ushered me in.“Sit” he instructed again and I obliged, I'd received enough beating to know my limits.I looked around scared, the walls were thin and you could hear through the walls, people laughing and speaking the local dialect, I heard women too, and to my left, I could hear moans as well.Is this a brothel of some sort or have I been plunged into some strange Japanese orgy? The door opened and soon a tall Japanese man came in, he looked expressionless and it didnt take me long to figure out that he was the boss.He sat opposite me and placed his large arm on the table between us, a look of intimidation soon followed.“Where is the girl?” he asked in a thick Japanese accent,
Pearl’s pov~ An older woman came in not long after the kaichou left, he was called out urgently and seemed angry. “Get up child” she started in a low tone, she grabbed my arm and pulled my shaking body up. “You speak English?” I asked in an equally shaky tone. She nodded as she pulled me out of the room to the back of the property. It led to a smaller compound, women were everywhere, and some played with their hair. Some were bathing naked out in the open, but I never saw any men. There were guards stationed out front, at the gates. She slid the door to the side and ushered me in, “you stay here” she said. She closed the door and I turned to look inside the huge room, there was a vanity table, and a traditional geisha kimono hung in cupboards. In the corner there was a bed, someone laid on it, her head bandaged, and slowly she sat up. It was the geisha from earlier, the one who hit her head. I hurriedly went over to her to help her get up, “are you okay I asked, and She sho
Pearl’s POVThe D'angelo Residence had turned into an endless battlefield fought with whispers, sidelong glances, and carefully sown seeds of doubt and confusion rather than the typical swords and bloodshed. Camille was an experienced warrior in matters of this nature. She was a natural-born Amazon displaced from her people. Although Sophie had always been a bright and self-reliant child, something felt strange tonight, it lingered in the air and I could taste it. I didn't come out from my new room until later that evening when I was in there thinking about the worst. If this is a fake like Camille said then have I just destroyed my chances with August forever?Sophie, sat across from me at the dinner table, frowning and picking at her mashed potatoes, stabbing them with her fork, as if she were punishing them for something. "Not hungry, sweetheart?" I asked, attempting to sound light, she’d noticed I'd been distant all dinner long.“I overheard Aunt Camille talking,” Sophie admit
Am I in a dream or is this real?I was drifting…. My body felt weightless, stuck in a dream that didn't feel like mine, it felt like I was watching another version of me getting her happy ending.A part of me that wanted Nico too, somewhere between truth and illusion. Like a scene from a movie I wasn't sure I had agreed to star in, the wedding played out in front of me, I saw myself shocked beyond reasonable doubt, my mind in endless fractions, imagining and reimagining scenarios.Nico was in front of me, something I couldn't quite put my finger on smouldering in his black eyes. What was it that covered his beautiful hazel eyes as he gazed upon me?Love? Want? Lies? As he spoke his vows, his smooth and deep voice enchanted me.And I still couldn't believe what was happening. "I knew” he started, touching my lips softly, “from that night I saved you from that car wreck I knew you were going to be my wife” he smiled. What were these words flowing out of his mouth?“ I recognized som
NICO’S POVAll I could see was Sophie's little hand holding mine as the celebration whirled around me, complete with music, laughter, and the soft murmur of conversation. She looked excited, as though she couldn't wait for her special day.Even at the age of seven, she possessed her mother's keen gaze and quiet resolve. Her mother was Pearl, in this case, the confusion lingered.Who exactly is my daughter’s mother?"Are you certain of this? There’s no going back now Sophie, are you sure you want it" I crouched to her level and whispered. She smiled toothily at me, her loose tooth smiling at me."Don't you trust me?" she giggled.I let out a sigh and shook my head. That problem I do, a grown man trusting a child, what has the world come to?” She fled with a loud giggle, squeezing past guests like a cunning sprite, waving at them and shouting “It's my birthday!” she let out a giggle. At that moment, my grandmother came over, her shrewd eyes piercing me, she tapped my shoulders ligh
Pearl’s pov~Something is off with Nico, what did he mean by he knows they are up to something?I thought he had believed them, but still, there was a familiar disdain when he saw August coming around or calling to familiarize last-minute details with me.I had created a beautiful wonderland on the D’angelo Estate. Beautiful floral arrangements adorned the tables, a magnificent carousel had been prepared for the kids, and sparkling fairy lights streamed down the marble archways. Only Sophie, Nico D'Angelo's daughter, could have such a spectacular birthday, a birthday fit for a princess of her status, no expense was spared.I watched as they mounted a wedding podium right after it.It sickened me to watch Tilly strut around making final adjustments for what seems to be her wedding day.I navigated the crowd, feeling alienated at a party put together. Sophie's day was supposed to be today, but now her aunt had put her selfish interest and had convinced her father to follow suit.Key
Pearl’s pov~I knocked while my fingers were shaking in the dark hallway outside Nico's door, my heart beating like a machine was pounding yam on top of it. I had been caught off guard by the vow renewal, what the hell was that? How did Tilly get him to do that? And where the hell was the guard when this was going down? I should have never asked her to pretend now she thinks it's all real? But still, my mind raced endlessly and I couldn't get over it.What was this feeling I felt? Hurt? Why do I need to hear it from him? I needed clarity, I needed closure. My heart was broken, I thought we had something special together and now he is marrying a woman faking this to upgrade her lifestyle! He was wearing a black silk robe, his hair still fresh from a shower, when the door flung wide, he groaned softly, yet weakly as he held his side. The corner of his mouth tipped slightly as he saw me and he raised an eyebrow, he grinned and winced in pain again.Swiftly I walked to his side."You ju
Pearl’s POV~Sophie’s seventh birthday was just days away, and I was drowning in last-minute preparations. With Nico’s sick ass at home, Camile has been making my life miserable, and Tilly is MIA. A birthday fit for a princess—that’s what I wanted for her. Balloons, a cake so big she could barely reach the top, and a day so perfect she’d forget, even for a moment, that our lives were entangled in chaos. She hasn't needed my blood in a while, the doctor says everything is going fine, “she’s a fighter” He smiled as I fought back tears. It had been an amazing family reunion between Nico and Sophie, he seemed to remember her now but he called her my daughter too often and it made me wonder if he still thought I bore sweet Sophie. But, of course, Camille had other plans.I should’ve known, everything with her was a fight, a fight no one ever took my side for.And I was sick and tired.Everything was going smoothly until it wasn’t. Orders were mysteriously cancelled. The venue manager cal

Pearl’s POV~Blood stained everywhere. I stared in horror as my heart beat out of control. When we first got to Nico's hospital room, I noticed dark, drying stains on the sheets that spilt on the floor like someone had attacked him.“What the hell happened!” August exclaimed, looking around frantic.I sank to the floor. What if, just what if he has been killed?“Is he dead, August? So much blood, I can't...August hugged me, wrapping his arms tightly around me. “I dont want you to think about this; he probably escaped, so something,” he comforted me.I saw that his IV stand was knocked over, a chair was flipped, and the air smelt of something metallic and antiseptic smelt like a fucking hospital. He had left, or maybe been kidnapped! My heart pounded against my ribs as I frozen in shock. Adam muttered a curse and then gave the security squad orders. August was already on the move, looking at the cameras in the corridor."This isn't good," Adam said to himself. "He was being closely
