Something was touching Calvin. He rolled onto his side and swapped at the object, hoping whatever or whoever would stop. It didn’t. He peeled one eye open, prepared to yell if it was a person, but the anger evaporated when he saw Angel. She was crouched by his bed, her lips pursed and her finger aiming for his ribs again. When their eyes met, she grinned.

“Hey,” she greeted.

“Hey.” Calvin rolled onto his side, tucking his hands under his head. “Why are you awake so early?”

“I want to make breakfast. I’m not sure where the kitchen is, and I don’t know who to ask.”

“You don’t have to, Angel,” he told her. She frowned, and he rubbed his thumb over her cracked lips. “We have someone to handle it.”

“But I want to. You don’t even have to come with me. Just show me the kitchen, that’s all.”

“If you’re cooking, I’m cooking with you.”

Angel laughed as he threw his legs over the bed. He liked the sound so much he tickled her until she was laughing again. Stealing a kiss from her, he pulled her

Hana was seated on the swing attached to the treehouse when she saw KJ walk to the interconnected mini basketball field with a ball. He bounced it on the floor, unaware of the person watching him. She wasn’t sure if to leave or stay. There was a ladder in case she wanted to climb up to the treehouse.Kyle didn’t love her. She shouldn’t be upset since she was the one who told him love didn’t matter to her. But if the rest of his family could love her, why couldn’t he? She stopped swinging when Kyle walked out of the house. He curved a hand over his forehead as if searching for someone, and she tried to shrink into herself. She was right when she told him he did nothing wrong, but his response still hurt her feelings.KJ stopped bouncing when he noticed his brother and waved him over to the court. Given the size of the court, she suspected it was built for only the McKenna kids. Kyle joined his brother on the court. He wasn’t dre

The couple walked back to the house hand in hand. They had spent some time kissing and talking, then went down to use the swing. It was darker now. The sun had gone down, painting the sky in warm colours.Hana giggled when Kyle nudged her with his hip.“Baby,” she murmured, her cheeks flaming red.It was no news that she had never had a boyfriend or any relationship with the other gender. Perhaps that was why her cheeks lighted up each time she let out the pet name. But she didn’t want to stop. They were close to the back door when he lifted and swung her midair. Her head fell back with laughter and contentment as she took in the garden, court, and treehouse upside.Happiness swelled in her chest when she locked her arms around his waist. “I like you.”“I like you more,” he said. He set her down at the foot of the stairs. She knew this door led to the kitchen. “Do you want us t

  • His Runaway Angel    61: Fighting

On Tuesday morning, Calvin was still in a mood. He tried to hide his dismay after Sunday’s night dinner, but he couldn’t hold back his annoyance this morning. Angel looked too happy as she packed her belongings into the small travel suitcase Camilla gifted her. If his sister continued gifting his wife-to-be, there would be no space for the things he would get her.Angel held a dress to her chest and twirled. Her enthusiasm made him smile, but it only lasted a few seconds before it was gone. He thought she was the only person she wanted to keep, and that involved them always staying in the same place together.Covering the gap, Calvin hugged her from behind. He deliberately let his fingers brush her boobs knowing she wasn’t wearing a bra and was horny, thanks to her hormones.“If you’re doing it for them, you don’t have to,” he said. Angel twisted until she was facing him. “They will be miffed but okay.”

  • His Runaway Angel    62: See you

Calvin didn’t change his mind about the meeting with Angel’s father. For now, he would focus on other things like asking Angel if she wanted to press charges against him. It was Thursday morning, and he was preparing for work. Cara’s number was still unreachable. Angel hadn’t stopped trying, but he was taking a break. His head cocked to the side as the door to their bedroom opened. Angel walked in with a smile. She must have been cooking. It was something she started yesterday. Waking up early enough to make him food before he left and also a lunch pack for work. He would argue against it, but it made her happy.“Need any help?” she asked as he fiddled with the cufflinks of his shirt. He shook his head. “Sure?”“Yeah. Thanks.”Angel walked further into the room but went straight to grab her bag. He hadn’t gotten her to change her mind, not like he had asked. He was more wo

  • His Runaway Angel    63: Are you okay?

A whole day passed without Kyle calling Hana. She wasn’t sure what that meant or if it signified the end of her relationship with him. Sitting by the window, she picked up the phone on the sill and pulled out her contact list. The one person she wanted to call was missing. She was silly not to have her husband-to-be number, and she didn’t know how to ask his mum or sister without calling attention to the problem.Kyle’s excuse had sounded genuine enough for the parents not to worry about her impromptu presence. Camilla had moved back to the house to make Hana’s stay more memorable, but she had been too disoriented last night and most of this morning. The family had chucked it up to her absence from Kyle, but it was more than that. It was the guilt of knowing she hurt him with her words. She really didn’t mean it, but when he continuously insisted, downplaying her wants to make himself feel better, she had felt like that shy girl who did all of he

A breath caught in Calvin’s throat. God, he had missed his angel. Her presence stirred mixed emotions deep within him. His arms looped around the body pressed to his but lacked the force hers did. Angel must have noticed his lack of excitement because she stepped back and waved.“Hey,” she said without looking at his face. Her dress was tight around her waist, highlighting the thinness of it and her voluminous boobs. He missed touching them, burying his face between those gorgeousness.“Hey,” he replied.Calvin’s gaze strayed back up to her face, and he noticed she was wearing makeup. He would have kissed her if things were normal between them. The time away from her hadn’t cooled his temper. Being away from her annoyed him, being around her had his emotions in a knot. It was a first for him.Their prolonged stay at the café entrance had attracted some attention to them. He kept his face down fo

Calvin could feel eyes on him before he turned. Some were polite not to stare when he looked their way. Others didn’t care. A few had their phones out, but he wouldn’t give them drama. Minutes after Angel walked out on him, he hadn’t moved an inch. He grabbed a napkin and dabbed at his face and jacket. He was officially done with work for the day.She said she meant it. That Baba was better than him. Wow. How could she? Paying the bills, Calvin walked out. He did a double take when he saw her by the corner trying to make a call. Camilla must have left her. Oh, right. His sister told him to bring Angel home. Calvin chuckled as he crossed the distance. Angel didn’t look up, but he was certain she had seen and heard him.“No one is coming to get you. I’ll take you home,” he told her. She ignored him. “Hana.”“I can find my way.”Calvin slid his hands into his pockets. The shake had

  • His Runaway Angel    66: Are you sure?

A week passed without Kyle calling Hana. Last week Friday, she had wanted to stay back in the car so Andrea would take her to him, but the driver had pleaded with her for them to leave. For fear of him losing his job, she agreed. Camilla had taken a look at her and knew nothing went to plan. They gave him one more day to fix up. A day turned to two. Two days turned to a week. But he never showed up or asked about her or her welfare from his sister, so right now on a dull Friday evening, she was getting ready to go clubbing with Camilla. It was all Kyle sister’s idea. Hana had no choice. Well, she also wanted to forget the hurt. He brought his… his woman to the café. How could he? He should have simply told Hana he was done with their relationship. Was that why he stayed away for the whole week? Why he didn’t call or text her?“Chin up,” Camilla said, her voice cutting through Hana’s thoughts. She did as told for C

Footsteps pounded behind Camilla. How the heck was he so fast? He sounded close, but she didn’t look back to confirm her suspicions. A sudden pressure on her hair made her screech to a stop. Pain spread through her scalp, and she bit into her lip to stop herself from screaming. The copper taste of blood filled her mouth. She placed both hands on her head to ease the pain. The pressure finally reduced, but the pain lingered. Vanya stopped in front of her, the ends of her long ponytail wrapped around his fist. Her breath rushed out in ragged pants. Tears pricked the back of her eyes.Camilla took one step back, but the tug on her hair reminded her she wouldn’t get far. She had always prided herself on her long hair, but now she wished it wasn’t lengthy.“Let. Deep breaths. Inhale and exhale.Camilla May McKenna could do it. She could handle the simple task of taking pictures of a cheating lover and prove to her best friend that Vanya, her boyfriend, was a scum. KJ, her youngest brother, always told her evidence was key. He was the same one who told her men hated shopping and never went on that adventure without a woman unless sex was involved. So, the second Vanya walked into the boutique, she had rushed to the bathroom to call her best friend Faye. If Vanya was at the boutique, then he was with someone else. Faye was in class. All she had to do was get evidence, so Faye would leave the cheat.Retrieving a tube of pink lipstick from her purse, she reapplied it and fluffed her hair. From the mirror, her hair was flat on the sides from her consistent touching. Wasting no more time in the bathroom, she smacked her lips and walked out. Vanya hadn’t met her. He wouldn’t recognise her, so there was no need for her to use a disguise. Cold air r

  • His Runaway Angel    Epilogue

Sweat rolled down Calvin’s forehead. He hid a frown as he dabbed on the evidence of his anxiety. This was a regular date with his wife. He shouldn’t be nervous, but unlike other dates, this one was special. Different. It was an anniversary date. Last month was the one-year anniversary of meeting Angel on that rainy night. His wife had suffered an abrupt illness, so he couldn’t take her out. They had rescheduled it for today, making sure it fell on the same day. 10th day of the month. Instead of celebrating a one-year anniversary of knowing each other, it would be a thirteen months celebration. Calvin adjusted his suit in front of the mirror and ran a hand over the front of his jacket. He had no reason to worry. Life was good. His babies were fine. His wife was awesome. The cast of season two were already getting ready for production. A smile took over his lips as those thoughts solidified even more. The bedroom door opened, and Calvin stopped fussing with his tie. Angel strutted in,

He waited behind, not sure his presence would be wanted in such moment.Soon, both lad

  • His Runaway Angel    124: Christmas

Christmas was a big deal for the McKenna family, but that wasn’t always the case with Hana. She adjusted her dress a few times, and her husband scooped her up before she could tug on her sleeves one more time.“Baby, you need to stop that,” Kyle warned. She hugged his neck, her eyes closing as she let out a breath. “Everyone already loves you, there’s no need to be nervous.”“Well, yeah, I guess.”Hana’s stomach grumbled. He frowned and placed a hand on her stomach. “Hungry?” “No. Just a bit nervous.”“Don’t be, okay?” he said in a patronising voice. “I love you, and my family loves you.”Hana wasn’t only nervous for herself, she was for her sister too. It was the first family dinner with Cara, Hana, and the entire McKenna clan. After her discharge from the hospital, Cara had gone cold. Or should she say,

  • His Runaway Angel    123: A good husband

Night rolled by without Kyle showing up to the guestroom. Hana curled under the sheet, her eyes filling with tears. Should she have been upset about the loss of their child? Yes, she was. She was hurt. Her heart was shattered for their child, but at no point did she blame her husband for that.If any one should be blamed or punished for it, it was Baba. But Kyle was driving a wall between them with his constant self-blame. They lost a child and should grieve together not push each other apart. She meant what she said about not wanting a fight with him. She had missed him too much to let what was supposed to be a shared suffering drive them apart. He was seeing it as a loss, but she saw it as a gift.Maybe others wouldn’t see it that way, but that was her. Baba pushed her. She fell on her belly but lost only one baby. What if she had lost all? She had so many more positives to be thankful for. One, her sister. Two, her babies. Three, her husband. He mi

  • His Runaway Angel    122: Goodnight

Calvin should be a happy man since his kidnapped wife was back home, but he hadn’t gotten the courage to tell her about the babies. He also couldn’t get rid of the guilt that had taken over his chest. No matter what anyone told him, it was his fault. His stubbornness brought them here.Someone tapped him. He looked up, and a fake smile took over his lips. It was his wife.“What are you thinking?” she asked.“Nothing. Just getting ready.”Angel placed a hand on her waist. “Really?”Calvin hadn’t heard his beautiful wife enter the bathroom. She must have caught him staring into space. He tended to do that more often these days. They were getting ready to head to the hospital for their evening checkup. Cara was still there, but she was feeling better than she did last week. His wife had formed a habit of reading a chapter from her favourite romance book to her sister.

  • His Runaway Angel    121: Take me home

Hana’s eyes peeled open slowly. She had gotten so used to her new home that the change had her shutting her eyes again to be sure this wasn’t a dream. This… this didn’t look like where Baba kept her.Where was he? Where was Cara? Each time she tried to remember everything that could have led her to this point, her head throbbed. Someone squeezed Hana’s hand. Groaning softly, she turned to the side and saw Kyle. A minute or two passed. That, that couldn’t be real. Was she dreaming? Was this heaven?“Baby,” he whispered, his fingers brushing her cheek. He was real. Wait, were both of them dead? Did Baba kill her? How did he get here? The heart monitor beside her beeped out of control, and Kyle palmed her cheeks. “Hey, princess. Relax, it’s me. Your dragon prince.”“Kyle?”“Yes. Yes,” he whispered. “I’m here.” Hana winced as she tried to sit up. Her h

They found her. It had been a week since Calvin’s mother gave them the tip about the tracker in the pendant. In that time, they had all worked tirelessly to find Calvin’s wife. Within that time, Calvin experienced too many breakdowns to count. This ordeal wasn’t one he would wish on anyone, not even people he loathed. He sat in his wife’s office, phone in his hand, waiting for a call or something that would take him to her. His heart was broken and hollow, and had stopped beating right a long time ago. This was pain. This was torture.Coming to the office wasn’t actually for him to work. Her absence was driving him insane because her scent was everywhere. He was tired of his whole family fussing over him, so he had promised them he would show up at work to use it as a distraction. That didn’t work. Because he found himself in her office, sometimes just touching all the things she touched, staring into space or pacing the
