Duty Begins

ELSA'S POV:

Apparently I wasn't the only new recruit in the household of Alpha Nathan.

As we gathered in the long hall waiting to be addressed and welcomed by Alpha Nathan and his Luna, Isabella, I kept balancing my weight on my two feet, growing irritatedly by every passing seconds.

My anger kept bubbling up and no matter how hard I tried to distract myself, I couldn't.

"Alpha Nathan is a monster. He is the reason you're an Orphan. Never forget that." Mr Graham's words echoed in my head. These particular words had become a constant reminder of why my life had been a hard one. The solemn reason I was there pretending to be a maid.

"I'll make sure that this household pays severally," I assured myself the same minute Alpha Nathan and Luna Isabella walked into the hall.

They both looked better in person. The pictures of them I was shown did no justice to how great they were looking. They both look exceptionally gorgeous with mild Auras emanating from them. Safe to say you would think they are the kindest in the world with just a glance.

It bugged me that someone as mild looking as he could be so heartless to murder a friend over a little agreement.

Graham made it clear that my father, Alpha Damien was a great friend to Alpha Nathan. However that friendship ended even before it began.

And the so-called reason for the tragic end of my father was the woman standing by Alpha Nathan.

My fist clenched as my heart twitched in pain.

"You both can't have a great life while my parents wail in their graves." I gritted my teeth, trying my hardest to keep it cool.

***********

"I have been looking for you." I turned towards the voice and right there with her hands akimbo was Mina gagging at me with her brows raised and a smirk dancing at the corner of her mouth.

"Why?" I question flatly. I was heading back to my room after the brief minute we had with The Alpha and his Luna. Though nothing much was said, but it was exhausting to listen to the man I hated the most speak like he couldn't hurt a fly.

"Well, Luna Isabella demands your presence." She announced, gaining a stunned expression from me.

"Huh?" Was all I could manage to utter before Mina hooked her arms around mine and started dragging me forward.

"Our Luna doesn't bite. In fact, she is the nicest person in this Pack." She declared and I rolled my eyes.

"How can that be when she is the reason my both parents are dead." I pondered within myself.

"In here everyone is treated equally," Mina continued to blab while I listened to her absentmindedly.

"The only time when maids are frowned upon is in a situation of love. As a maid or an omega, you dare not be mated to The Alpha Heir or fall in love."

I halted in my tracks the minute I heard that, my body invisibly shaking. How in the world would I carry out my plans if I wouldn't get close to Ezekiel?

"Don't worry, you have nothing to worry about. The moon goddess wouldn't disgrace you like that by mating you to Ezekiel. In fact, she wouldn't disgrace anyone of us." She churned, chuckling delightfully like what she had said earlier held no meaning.

I wasn't made aware of this said rule or was Mr Graham setting me up when he sent me here?

Or it could be that he knew nothing about this.

"The truth is, it wasn't always like that. It was recently that this rule was made by the Council members. According to them; All the Alpha Heirs starting from Ezekiel should never get entangled with maids or omega. It would no longer be tolerated to have low-lives Wolves having the Luna positions when there are better options.” Mina explained further and then continued, “well, we are yet to see the Moon Goddess disagree." Mina shrugged and kept walking forward.

"That's stupid." I voiced my opinion before she could continue explaining her ridiculous story.

Mina gave me a curious look and asked, "What do you mean?"

A heavy feeling suddenly filled my stomach, making me unable to reply. What did I mean?

"You're not planning on falling for the Alpha Heir?" Mina probed further, giving me another curious gaze as she waited for my answer.

Shaking my head, I answered, "Of course not! I'm here to serve as a maid and not fall in love."

This seemed to eased Mina as she let out a loud sigh of relief and smiled. "I'm happy to hear that."

She unhooked her arm as we made a stop at a door.

"This is the Luna's chamber. See you later." With that Mina left me standing clueless in front of the door.

"Come in," Luna Isabella said from inside.

With a twitching pain in my stomach, I swallowed hard and opened the door to reveal her back turned to the entrance. She was still on the floral dress she wore earlier with her black straight hair cascading her back.

Funny to admit, there's something soothing about her presence and the way she carries herself: Like she's meant to be a Luna.

"Elsa, is it?" She questioned and turned slowly to look at me, her gaze fixed solemnly on my face. It was like she was scrutinizing me, or probably looking for something on my face.

"Take a seat, dear." She mouthed and pointed at a seat for me. I did as I was told and waited to hear why she had summoned me.

A brief silence passed and she came to sit by my side, staring at me the entire time with those piercing violet eyes. I was invisibly uncomfortable since I couldn't make out why she would sit with me, a maid?

"You look familiar, do I perhaps know your mother or parents?" Her brows were raised as she asked the question.

"Not at all, your highness." I quickly said, trying not to arouse any suspicion.

"Okay," she shrugged in response after a while and turned away.

After a few minutes of interaction with her, she ended the meeting and asked me to leave.

"Yes, before I forget." Her voice came as soon as I grabbed the doorknob.

"You're appointed as Ezekiel's personal maid."

My eyes widened and my hand dropped from the door, "what!" I screamed internally.
