“So, Martha…” I turned my attention to Kai, whose lips were hovering over a glass of wine. “Since it’s your birthday, how old are you now? Just asking respectfully,”

“Well, I’m thirty six today,” I said meekly, quite embarrassed by their shocked looks.

“Thirty six?!” Kai’s eyes were wide, but I could see that there was no judgment in them and that made me relax a little. “Wow, I would have pegged you for someone in their mid-twenties, you certainly don’t look your age,”

He hummed, glancing back and forth between me and Alex. “Damn, you’re far older than Alex, but you look so much younger. Your genetics are truly amazing,” he looked at me in awe.

"Yeah, that's definitely unexpected," Max, who I now know as Kai's cousin, said with a slight frown. Even Jennifer, his girlfriend, was also sporting the same frown as well.

“Yeah, but it’s fate, you know? I must have been born so that she won’t be lonely in this cruel world.” Alex said, gazing at me. I couldn't help but blush as he lo
