Jessica Franklin is at her wit's ends, literally. With two sisters depending on her and a mountain of debts on her neck, she needs a way out before she breaks down. So when she sees an online post of a Billionaire requesting a bride, she immediately takes it. Devon Reeves just wants to get rid of his clingy ex who's snuck her way back into his life and is disrupting it. Unwilling to go on dozens of blind dates, he puts up a post requesting a bride and receives numerous responses. Out of the many proposals, Only one sticks out to him. Without thinking too much about it, he accepts it and goes on a date. One look is all it takes to get Devon to decide that Jessica is his bride. A contract is signed and the two begin to live like husband and wife. There's just one problem, nobody is accepting of this new arrangement. Plus, the more he gets to know his wife, the more he realizes that she has secrets... Secrets she's running away from and will soon catch up to her. Book 1 in the Franklin Sisters series.

Prologue

Devon Reeves."I have nothing to offer you."Those were the first words she said to me when we first met. And it was true, she indeed had nothing to offer me. At age twenty-seven, Jessica Franklin was a high school dropout, had never been to the four walls of college, and was buried under a mountain of debt.Yet, she had been one of the many women who had filled out the form of me searching for a wife online, she had shown up on our blind date in a borrowed dress which she claimed she needed to return before midnight and she kept glancing at her broken watch to see how much time had passed.I glance at her tired eyes, pale face, and unruly hair, my lips stretching into a smile. There is something in those weary eyes of hers that intrigues me in ways no other woman has, wanting me to know more about her."You don't need to offer me anything. I just need you to be my wife." Little did we know, this would be a start of a long journey to forever. *******Jessi

What would it feel like to give up? A voice asks in my head as I wake up. I groan, grabbing my throbbing head with shaky hands. My blurry gaze takes a while to clear and I note that I'm on the ground. A frown hits my lips as I try to sit up. Did I pass out here? A bitter chuckle escapes my lips as I contemplate my answer. Of course, I did, I could barely see my way home last night.Standing up to my feet, I clean the nosebleed that had trickled down to my lips and wash my face. Feeling a semblance of control, I trudge to my sister's room and catch her sleeping between her books. A new school year has begun, her final year of high school. My lips twitch but don't quite form a smile. Going to school only meant it would be a season of expenses. I walk to the side of her bed and wake her up. Her long lashes flutters open and she squints at me, her gaze unfocused."Is it morning already?" She asks as she gazes down at me. I nod, too tired to speak. "When did you arrive?""Sometime past m

"Why would you do something like that?"Chris asks me as he slaps me on the back, and bouts of laughter break out on the table where I'm seated down. Gripping the glass of whisky in my hand very tightly, I try to appear nonchalant as I reply, "Don't know. It a spur-of-the-momention." Chris sneers at me before turning to the rest of the men."Hey, did you guys see the post Devon made?" He calls out, his loud voice booming through the entire bar it makes me cringe. The rest of the guys turn to me and grin."I did. And I honestly couldn't believe it." Greg spoke up, hands wrapped around the waist of a lady he had picked for the night."You guys kept pressuring me to have a girlfriend. So I did the only reasonable thing that came to mind. I did not expect it to blow up." I had made a post the night before requesting a mail-order bride only for me to wake up this morning and see it had gotten viral. Let's not even talk about the dozens of applications I had received as a result, my phone a

I return from work, a bag of fruits in hand and my head pounding. Knocking on the door, I wait till Emma opens it. A smile lights up her face when she sees me and she immediately grabs the bag from my hand, ushering me in. "Welcome back." She greets me, her voice cheerful as always."Thanks," I mumble."I bought fruits, do you mind making a salad out of it?" I ask her. She nods and immediately goes to the kitchen to wash them, cutting them up.I trudge to the couch in the living room, collapsing on it like a bag of potatoes. I'm more than exhausted. Emma comes to sit beside me, dragging a chair from the kitchen, two bowls of fruit salad in her hands."So, how was work?" She asks, passing me a bowl of salad as she sits down. I collect it from her and with very little appetite, begin to eat."Fine. How was school?" She scoffs, rolling her eyes. "it's only the first day of school, and I already have so many assignments! Can't these teachers catch a break!?" She groans, slumping on the

This is a joke, right?I ask myself as I stare at the message, I couldn't possibly be picked. I'm about to dismiss the message when another one comes in. The world is a blur. I can't see anything.Mom? I call out to the increasing crowd on the sidewalk, hurried footsteps surrounding me, getting louder by the second. I swallow, my eyes darting around. Still, I can't make out a single thing.Mom! I call out, even more, frantic this time. She's always like this, leaving me behind every time we go out together. It's like she wants to abandon me here.I'm right here! I hear her scream, her voice laced with anger. My lips start to tremble. I can't see you, I yell, my voice shaking. What do you mean you can't, I'm right in front of you! Walk faster! You're blurry, come closer. I take a step forward, the crowd pushing me in all directions. I try to follow her voice but I trip over myself and land facedown on the sidewalk. The tears I fight so hard to keep are on the surface now, blinding me further.Mom... Closing off early at my warehouse job at the factory, I return home with a bag of groceries and a pounding headache. The house is silent as I step in and a sigh escapes my lips. Although there's still a long way to go before it's time for my date, it won't be bad to get started early. I eat a late lunch and spend the rest of my time, cleaning the entire apartment and preparing a meal for my sister when she arrives. She's on a strict diet thanks to her gastrointestinal disease and the last thing I want is a flare-up. I wasn't joking when I said I have no money to give anyone.By the time I'm done cleaning the rundown apartment, there's another E-mail waiting for me in my account. This time, it looks like I'm going to be picked up by a driver. How do they even know my address? I chuckle, dropping the phone on the couch. They've probably done their research. Freaking Billionaires. I check the wall clock. It's just past four. I have less than an hour to prepare. I step into the shower a

It took only one glance to know she was the one... And I have bad eyesight. Staring at the woman before me, whatever image I had conjured on how my prospective blind date would like burned away to dust. She exceeded all of my expectations and more. To the point where I had difficulty speaking. Realizing she'd been standing for a while, I finally manage to force out some words."Nice to meet you as well," I reply, standing to my feet to shake her outstretched hand. Thankfully my voice doesn't reflect the surprise I'm feeling at the moment. A sizzle of electricity courses through me at the contact of our palms and I'm mentally kicking myself in hopes that she didn't feel that as well. Her expression doesn't change so I'm guessing she didn't. "My name is Devon Reeves and just like you guessed, I am your date. Please, have a seat." "Thanks." She says, pulling her hands away. Draping her coat on the seat, she pushes it out of the chair and sits down with me following. She places her bag o

When I finally arrived home, Emma was still up, waiting for me. The second she saw me, visible relief crosses her face and she jumped out of her seat, her eyes immediately scanning me. Seeing I didn't come home with any weird marks on my skin, she lets out a sigh, a smile on her face."Welcome home." She says, ushering me in."Thank you," I mutter, smiling at her."So, how was your date?" She asks as she goes back to sit, her voice laced with interest. I let out a small sigh, removing the coat from my body."Great? At least, I didn't get killed since that's what you were so worried about." I tell her, removing the jewelry I have on. She smiles, rubbing her palms together."I can't help it. You tend to do worrisome things.""So I've heard," I murmur."Who's the person, though?" I pause, then decide to tell her the truth. "Devon Reeves," I say simply, walking to the kitchen to grab myself a bottle of water."Devon Reeves?" She repeats, staring at me, her eyes widened in surprise. I nod

A reply was already waiting for me in my email and when I check out my email the next morning, he had agreed to the terms. Which means, by Saturday we should be married. A weird feeling spreads through my chest as I read the message and the extra information he had written down concerning our wedding arrangements. The terms were rather simple although a bit problematic. *No sexual intimacies of any sort,*No questions about my past and;*Fuck any non-disclosure terms he might have, my sisters would be aware that this was a contract marriage. Although it wasn't worded like this, that was the point. I also added that I would be moving in with my teenage sister since I was responsible for her. Seeing that he agreed, he must be as easygoing as he looks.Replying with a simple thanks, I start to prepare for my day at work. There's no food at home so I make Emma promise she'll have something to eat before school starts before heading to work.I arrive and meet Stephanie waiting for me. Af
