Chapter 1

Aubrey 

      “Avery, Dad said you wanted to see me,” I say to my twin sister as I enter her bedroom. 

      “Yes, Daddy has this friend he wants me to go work for. He needs a personal assistant, but you know I have my career as a singer at Felix’s club and you are looking for a change in scenery,” Avery says sweetly. “Daddy said as long as you agree, he can send you in my stead.”

      “It would get me away from Wilson Jefferies and his cronies and away from Davide’s roaming paws,” I say with a sigh. “Who is this man, anyway?”

      “Mr. Adonis Zachariah, or as we would know him, The Hottest Bachelor Alpha in the country,” Avery purrs. “I heard his mate died in a freak accident before they could mate or mark one another and he hasn’t found a chosen mate up to his standards. I strongly considered going, but I have a mate.”

      She likes to rub it in that I found my mate and he rejected me. Being mated to your bully is the worst! Being Kitsune shifters in a world where most of the prominent shifter families pride themselves on being pure Werewolf stock really sucks. 

      My mother is from Japan and my father is from America. Avery and I were born here in New York and went to school with humans and wolf shifters, being the only wealthy Kitsune family in our private high school and even in college. Being the rejected mate of the Alpha to the biggest pack on the East Coast is depressing. 

     “Okay! I’ll need to go shopping for California’s climate and trends!” I say.

     “I knew you would say that and told Daddy to let me have the black card for our shopping spree!” Avery chirps and grabs my hand.

     I grab my tablet  to look up the latest trends in Southern California while we get the driver to bring us to some stores. 

     “Felix is going to miss you,” Avery says. 

     "He can live without me," I sigh.

     Felix and Avery have been my closest friends. Yes, you can be friends with your twin sister! But Felix and I have had some tension lately. He says I need to put myself out there and I should give in to Davide. I don’t want the horn dog younger brother of Boston’s Alpha as my chosen mate, even if he is hot. I’ve heard about him sleeping around in Boston and being sent to live with cousins in New York after some drama with the Beta family. Felix can have Davide! I hear he goes every which way.

     “You know we have never been apart, the three of us?” Avery says.

     “Yeah. You and I came out of the womb together, or five minutes apart and Felix has been around since we were in diapers, but we are twenty four years old, not babies!” I huff.

      I will miss Felix and Avery, but we need to stand on our own two feet.

     “Hey, Foxy!” I hear as we stop to get iced coffee before hitting my favorite boutique. “Where’s your TAIL? Is it under that little skirt?”

     “Shut up, Wilson! YOU rejected ME, remember?” I snarl.

     “That doesn’t mean I couldn’t play with you. I bet your lips would feel really good around my cock! Alphas have big dicks and I’d love to see the tears in your eyes as you choke on mine!” Wilson says as he rudely gestures to his crotch.

      “I’m not like that and you know it!” I state as I spin on my heels to enter the coffee shop.

     “You don’t have to be so cold, Bitch!” Wilson growls.

     “Calling me a bitch or ‘Foxy’ hasn’t gotten old in the last twenty years, for you has it? Well, it is old and tiring for me,” I say as I storm up to the counter and order two grande skinny iced coffees with 2 pumps each of coconut and caramel syrups. 

      “Wilson, leave your little pet alone! I have these girls waiting for us over at the packhouse,” his Beta, Terrance says. 

      “Let’s get our nails done after we get some clothes and I’ll text Daddy to arrange your tickets and apartment with Mr. Zachariah,” Avery says.

      Wilson stops dead in his tracks and turns to me then says, “YOU are NOT leaving are you? You CAN'T LEAVE ME! I’M YOUR MATE!”

     “AGAIN, WILSON! YOU! REJECTED! ME!” I shout, happy to know this is a shifter owned shop and a part of town only shifters frequent.

     Wilson is unhinged. I can see it in his eyes.

     “Aubrey has a job and IS LEAVING!” Avery says. “If YOU have a problem you can take it up with Aubrey’s boss, Alpha Adonis Zachariah!”

      “Not THE Alpha Adonis Zachariah?!” Wilson asks.

      “Oh! The one and only,” Avery says nonchalantly.

     I get our iced coffees from the cute barista. He’s a hybrid from the smell of him. Too bad he’s so young and probably still has a mate out there waiting to meet him. 

    “We have shopping to do and plans to make. Get out of my way, Big Bad Wolfie!” I say teasingly as I strut past Wilson with my head held high and be sure to sway my hips to emphasize what he is missing.

     I know I have a fantastic ass and even in a skirt it shows!

     Avery and I go to all my favorite shops and I find the cutest little skirts and skinny jeans. Avery finds me some jeggings and cardigans and I find some cropped hoodies, blazers and blouses. Then we head out to find shoes.

      “What about makeup and a new hairstyle?” Avery asks.

     I look at my reflection and my long black hair with my green eyes.

      “Hair and then make-up!” I declare.

     By the time we get home, I feel like a new person and Dad has my agenda ready for me.

     “You start on Monday. Your flight is Friday morning and Adonis’s Beta can meet you at the airport when you arrive and will show you around. Adonis said he would be out of town until late Sunday evening but will see you in the office early on Monday,” Dad says. “Here is the schedule and all your contacts for California. I offered to send you with a credit card for any of your needs, but Adonis said he will provide for you for as long as you are employed by him.”

      “Thanks, Dad!” I say, bowing my head as I take the packet.

I always thought it was strange how Avery calls Dad ‘Daddy’ . I don't want to call any guy that unless he’s dominating me. Maybe it’s my lack of sex and excessive watching of p**n speaking there.
