CHAPTER 6
“SPARKS”
Bridgette’s POV:
I sat at the bar quietly watching all the people within the club. I noticed that many of them were close to my age, and I immediately assumed that this must be a college town. There were a few wolves within the club, and I was thankful that I hadn’t accidently stumbled into some packhouse. The bartender was definitely a wolf but had been nothing but genuinely kind to me.
The bass pounded; strobe lights flashed as the multiple dancers took their party onto the stage. Most of the women were scantily dressed, miniskirts, bodycon dresses, stilettos and crop and tub tops, prowling around in search of male attention. I surveyed my surroundings as I turned back to the bar top and took a sip of my drink, Johnny Walker, the only Scotch this place had.
My senses stirred as I finished my drink and set it back onto the bar top. I took a deep breath and caught the most delectable scent of bergamot I had ever smelled. I lifted my head and turned around in my barstool scanning the area closely. I needed to be cautious for multiple reason, a foreign pack was nothing to take lightly, nor were rogues and unmated males. I was a lone she-wolf, not the best credentials in a club such as this. Thankfully, I seemed to have caught the attention of the bartender, who was a marked male, and he appeared to be keeping a watchful eye on me and I appreciated it.
I couldn’t make out where the scent was coming from, already at this hour the dance floor was full, and the people were still packing in from the entry. There was literally a line of people waiting to get inside.
“Did you need another?” the bartender asked dutifully, redirecting my attention to him. He was probably about 30 or so, heavily built, deep brunette. He was not unfortunate looking and hosted a kind and genuine smile.
“Yes, thank you.” I replied as I slid my glass closer to him. I noticed a large group of men across the room nearest to the DJ box.
“They are all wolves.” Aurora mumbled, her hair standing up upon her neck, her head dropped low as she watched them carefully and constantly sniffed the air for danger. As predicted, she was on high alert.
“Such the drama.” I chastised my wolf, nodding to the bartender who set another drink for me on the walnut bar. I returned my gaze to the men. They all were appearing to be having a stellar time, some sort of celebration perhaps. A birthday or a bachelor party I wondered. I caught the scent again, fleeting, and watched as Aurora lifted her head up excitedly.
“Mate!” she whispered. I froze and spun back around to face the bar, taking a deep breath. I could feel the anxiety rising in my chest and my heart began pounding. That was not possible!
“That’s impossible Aurora, you stop that!” I snapped at my wolf mentally.
“But I know it!” she whimpered, still searching for who the scent belonged to. I was so preoccupied mentally arguing with my wolf that I didn’t even notice when a stranger walked over to me and placed his arm confidently around my shoulders.
“Your new around here. What would a pretty thing like you be sitting here by yourself? Are you waiting for someone?” He asked boldly setting his drink in front of me.
“Get away from me.” I growled in frustration. I hated when men randomly came up and touched me.
“My name is Ned, let me buy you a drink pretty lady.” The man slurred as he reached around the front of me and attempted to pinch my breast. Reactively, I grabbed my drink and tossed the contents directly into his face. The man took a step back spitting and sputtering, wiping his liquor drenched face that was undoubtedly stinging from the alcohol when another stranger walked beside me and aggressively wrapped his arm around me. Immediately sparks erupted through my body causing me to freeze in terror and stare straight ahead.
“Mate!” my wolf shouted with glee. She was thrilled, and I was terrified.
“I saw her first.” The young man that had attempted to grab me growled. I could see in the bar mirror as I stared straight ahead the man who now held me tightly to his side simply smile with amusement and signaled two other men to walk closer to us.
“Perhaps, but she’s my mate.” I gasped as I heard his deep sultry voice resonate the words, “she’s my mate”. I closed my eyes tightly, this was not good, I was mated to a stranger from another country that resembled a mafia guy. Oh, dear God, I should have stayed in Scotland and obeyed my father, I thought frantically to myself, closing my eyes tightly and taking another deep breath.
As I reopened my eyes, I looked ahead again and say my mate’s eyes flicker wildly, a cast of gold hinted through the black irises, and I instantly knew he had allowed his wolf to come to the surface. The young human male froze in his tracks upon seeing the unnatural color change of my mate’s eyes as he quickly began scrambling away from us.
“Gentleman, would you be so kind in helping this young man out of the club? I believe he was just leaving.” My mate ordered the two men that had accompanied him over to my side. The two burley wolves walked past us, causing the young man to panic and flee, and I couldn’t say I blamed him, they, like the striking man that held me, were wearing immaculately tailored suits. Every American movie I had ever seen, the mafia guys resembled these thee! Oh Goddess, what had I gotten myself into!
The two men grabbed each arm and began carrying him like my father’s men stake a deer and promptly tossed him out the entrance, head first. I noticed the man smirk to himself, and then redirected his attention to me.
“I should probably introduce myself to you.” My mate smiled warmly, softly gazing down at me. I still refused to look at him, I could see his large toothy grin in the mirror, reflecting across the bar. My goddess was he gorgeous! Strong rustic features, dark walnut, almost black hair, and dark brown eyes, a slight 5’ o’clock shadow and strong square jawline. I dropped my eyes and allowed myself to side-eye him, he still possessively holding me. His biceps were larger than my thighs! And he was tall, very tall, easily over 6ft. Of course anyone was tall to me, considering I was barely 5’2.
“My name is Lucca Mariano. And you are?” he asked, quietly, gently, doing everything possible not to spook me. However, I was spooked, the idea that I was in the arms of a total stranger that looked like a mafia guy, in another country, that the Moon Goddess so chose to fate me too was beyond comprehension. I hesitated for a moment, deliberating my next move, until he carefully squeezed my shoulders with his arm, forcing me to meet his gaze. His eyes took my breath away, he was so handsome, and his eyes appeared so kind and pleasant, and although he portrayed a very powerful aura, he only radiated kindness to me.
“Bridgette.” I whispered, my throat feeling like it had been charred by a desert. Lucca raised his eyebrows at me and grinned. Goddess, that smile! Aurora was howling in my mind and distracting me horribly. This was not good, I needed to get out of here and fast.
“Stop it!” I snapped irritably to my wolf, between mister gorgeous here and her teenage crush behavior, it was nearly impossible to think straight, not to mention the epic panic setting in.
“He’s gorgeous!” She panted. I rolled my eyes and exasperatedly exhaled. Lucca moved away from my side and fluidly took the stool beside and gently placed his hand upon my thigh, rekindling the sparks through my skin and forcing me to redirect my attention back to him.
“Internal conversation?” he asked with a hint of amusement. My eyes grew wide, and I knew bewildered look was plastered on my face. I must fancy a complete idiot. However, my mate narrowed his eyes, his lips pursed as he studied my face closely. Nervously I straightened my back and regained my composure, holding my head up high.
“That is none of your business sir.” I snarled at him coolly. Lucca smirked and removed his hand from my leg, my leg instantly turning cold.
“Okay.” He re-adjusted himself and his Alpha aura began to radiate though the room. Shit, I was mated to a foreign Alpha. This keeps getting better and better. My father was really going to kill me now on top of everything else. A million scenarios raced through my head, perhaps if I just called my father, he would forgive me and allow me to return to Scotland and I could go about my life as I had never come here at all. I felt feverish, terror was wracking my body, yet I focused and attempted to maintain my head about me. To add to it, I could tell that he was trying to sway me with his powerful Aura, however lucky for me, my mate was always going to be at a disadvantage. I was the daughter of the Lycan King.
I smiled ever so sweetly to him, trying to play along. Let him think he is winning, I thought to myself. Aurora howled and began yipping in my head.
“Don’t you dare reject our mate!” she snapped at me furiously, a panic already hinting into her mannerism. I ignored her, I had no intentions of accepting some random American Alpha, one that I know absolutely nothing about. This was all insanity and a horrible mistake. All this time I had dreamed of finding my mate, and when I do, I randomly find him in some human club, in a different continent and looking like he just came out of the Godfather! Goddess help me! What were you thinking!
“So, tell me, what would a foreign she-wolf be doing in Morgantown West Virginia?” My mate asked me gently, appearing a little more confident since I relented to his Aura. I tipped my head and smiled kindly, ignoring his question.
“This is all so sudden. If you don’t mind, I need to utilize the loo.” I stood abruptly, causing my mate to raise quickly as well, a slight alarm hinted upon his face. He appeared confused so I casually pointed to the restroom doors. He immediately appeared more at ease and nodded with understanding, re-taking his seat.
“I will order a drink for you and be eagerly waiting for your return.” He told me calmly. I nodded and gathered my bag and quickly walked over to the loo, however I slowed my pace and glanced over shoulder to see if he was watching me. Luckily for me, he was speaking with the bartender ordering drinks. I smiled and carefully changed my direction from the bathrooms to the exit, glancing over my shoulder one last time to see my mate calmly sipping on his new beverage, expecting me to return to him, but I had other intentions as I slipped out of the front door and hailed the Uber that was dropping a couple off. I rushed over to the black SUV and leaned into the front window.
“Would you be so kind to take me back to my hotel please?” I asked the driver; I could feel my brow begin to sweat with panic. If I didn’t get out of her quickly, Lucca was going to notice my absence and come looking for me. It only took so long in a restroom after all.
“What hotel ma’am?” the young gentleman asked, he must have been a local college student working for extra money.
“Hampton Inn.” I answered, and thankfully the kid nodded, indicating that he would take me back to the hotel. I sighed with relief and frantically pulled open the passenger door and quickly jumped into the front seat of the car. However just as I did, I saw one of the men that had been standing behind Lucca that had been responsible for tossing the inebriated man out of the club walk outside and witness me leaving. I slid down and my seat, biting my lip, but it was too late. He had seen me. I just had to pray that he wouldn’t inform his boss and I would make it to my hotel quickly enough to escape and go back home.
“What are you doing!” My wolf exclaimed as the car began to drive away from the club. “You can’t leave our mate, he perfect!” Aurora was frantic, spinning around in my head like a caged animal.
“It is for the best.” I answer, keeping my eyes straight ahead. The Uber driver glanced over to me curiously and shrugged his shoulders.
“Whatever you say ma’am. I don’t judge.” I peeked sideways, suddenly embarrassed that I had spoken out loud.
“Sorry.” I muttered in response, and for the remainder of the ride I remained quiet despite Aurora barking in my head in a frenzy. All I knew was that I needed to get on the first flight back to Edinburg.
CHAPTER 7 "MINE"- Lucca’s POV: The music continued to blast out loudly while I waited for my mate to return to me. She was ravishing, I couldn’t recall a woman so beautiful, my wait had sure been worth it. She had porcelain skin, emerald, green eyes, and thick luscious auburn hair flowing down her back, and my mind wandered to her body. Her hourglass shape was magnificent, curvaceous, and sultry; so perfectly balanced it appeared her bottom had been made to flow into that stool. And when I had touched her, the sparks ignited within my fingers, and I knew immediately that she was the one for me. I could also tell that she was a powerful wolf and there was indeed a story behind her. When I had radiated my Alpha aura, one thing I had noticed was that she had not reacted to it, had not bowed her head, had not submitted, and then simply smiled at me. That told me that she had to be an Alpha herself, but where did she come from and why? Her accent alluded that she m
CHAPTER 8 “MARKED” Lucca’s POV: I had been furious when I had left the bar, so much in fact, it had taken me a few moments to stop trembling and regain my bearings. I had gone to the Hampton hotel in haste. She was mine and nothing was going to stand between us, and I refused to be left by my own Luna. The drive was short to the hotel in my black 7 series BMW, pulling into a parking spot in the front of the building. I hurried into the hotel lobby and attempted to compose myself as put on my best smile and charm and greeted the front desk attendant. “Hello there.” I said warmly. The skinny brunette woman looked me up and down slowly, lifting an eyebrow at me curiously, I could smell her unease with me. “Can I help you?” she asked, very apprehensive with my presence. I lowered my head, and slumped my shoulders just a little bit, hoping not to be too overwhelming to this young girl and end up scaring her. Last thing I needed was to frighten her and have
CHAPTER 9 “NEW REALITY” Bridgette’s POV: I woke the following morning to a dull throbbing in my head. I reached up and touched my forehead and as I did, felt a slight pinch at the base of my neck. I froze as the memories of last night fluttered into my mind. Had I passed out? Everything was a blur until I took a deep breath and caught that overwhelming scent of bergamot and realized I was laying in the arms of my mate. “This is not good.” I whimpered to myself as I contemplated what to do to wriggle out of this man’s very strong arms. I slowly turned, rolling onto my back, putting me nearly nose to nose with my captor, yes, that was how I felt like referring to him this morning. If it had been up to me, I would have been on the first flight back to Scotland this morning and I would have simply forgotten that I had flown to America in the first place. He ceased to wake but latched onto me a little more tightly causing me to freeze as he readjusted his
CHAPTER 10 “DAUGHTER OF THE KING” Lucca’s POV: I desperately needed some answers. I wanted to get back home to my pack and naturally I wanted to take my mate with me. However, somethings were needed to be answered before I could introduce her to anyone, like why my mate glows when she is angry, and who she is frankly. I had her first name and that was it. I could tell she was foreign, and I knew she had a strong Aura, but hell, even a human could tell those things about her. We only had a few blocks before we reached the I-Hop restaurant and I wanted to learn as much as I could in these few moments, especially about her electric blue glow before we walked in. That type of magic was not anything I wanted overheard, especially in a human town. There were somethings I didn’t want anyone to know about my mate. Bridgette was staring ahead watching the scenery when she finally answered me. “I am a Lycan.” She said softly, still refusing to look at me and wat
CHAPTER 11 “THE JAMES BOYS” BRIDGETTE’S POV: I was so very thankful when Lucca agreed to lend me his car. Although I had simply made up the fact that I had forgotten something, I needed to get back to the hotel, and quickly. I could feel the heat flushing in my cheeks as I maintained a running walk into the parking lot. As I opened the door of the sporty black BMW, I caught another man staring at me bizarrely. I paused and caught the unmistaken scent of menthol cigarettes and out of the corner of my eye, I watched him flick the butt away as he closed the door to his red Porsche. He was tall and blonde, a handsome man with a thick mustache and piercing blue eyes. His nostrils flared as he caught my scent, a disturbing smirk filtered upon his face, and he methodically began walking towards me. I watched in horror as he advanced. I panicked, this had to be another Alpha, and I could tell simply by the way he moved that he was dangerous. I hurriedly opened the car
CHAPTER 12 “AMBUSH” LUCCA’S POV: Luckily my Uber was outside of the restaurant as I walked out of the I-Hop, carrying my array of food. I was fuming after the interaction I had with Evan and his father, nasty pair of males. Both were out of their minds, and I now was sadly wondering if the multiple complaints of these men raping their many pack members was actually true. The thought sickened me, and I felt an honest fear and helplessness. I rode in the car in silence, tapped the tip button on my phone, and after leaving a generous tip to my driver, nodded and exited the car. I was back at the Hampton Inn, and I saw my car parked next to a beautiful blue challenger. As I walked into the lobby, I could vaguely smell my mate, and my worst fears were confirmed, she was coming into her heat, and we would need to keep her under lock and key, because any unmated werewolf male that caught wind of her would come circling around. Some would detour from her becaus
CHAPTER 13 “TWO SOULS” Bridgette’s POV: I watched my mate walk out of the hotel room, leaving me alone to struggle with my own mind and my wolf. Aurora was howling with despair, wanting him to return as quickly as possible, meanwhile, my mind was in torment. What was I going to do? My hormones were raging to the point I as having a hard time focusing on anything but being touched by my mate. It was frustrating and honestly a little frightened. All of this was happening so quickly I felt as though I didn’t have time to process my own thoughts. “I think my body was waiting to do this to me.” I muttered as I backed away from the door and took a seat on the end of the bed. When Lucca had walked into the room, my instincts were high and had he not left, I would probably be mated by now. I fidgeted with my fingers and took a deep breath, my body felt like it was in a furnace. I took another deep breath and frustratedly picked up my phone, it was nearing 5pm here in t
CHAPTER 14 “THE MEETING” Bridgette’s POV: I had never experienced such a blissful night such as this in my life. Lucca and I made love over and over, and true to his werewolf stamina, he never seemed to tire. My heat was no longer raging, it had calmed to a mild warmth, calming, almost comforting, and being in Lucca’s arms only made it feel even more right. Lucca, at some point had put out the Do Not Disturb sign, and thankfully so. After another round of truly mind-blowing sex, I laid back onto my pillow and lazily stared at the ceiling. “It’s nearly 4pm, we have been in this bed nearly 24 hours.” My mate spoke as he glanced at his phone after picking it up from the night table. “I think I should order us something to eat. Any requests?” Lucca asked as he reached over and brushed a tendril of hair away from my cheek. I turned my head and smiled at him warmly, searching his bold beautiful dark eyes. “Not really.” I murmured happily. “I just feel so c
CHAPTER #56“PROLOGED TO THE HYBRID MATES”(First Sequel of HIS HIGHLANDER LUNA and the HIGHLANDER SERIES) My memory is a blank space. I sit idly in the darkness while my mate sleeps in our bed, I have hence vacated to the love seat in our bedroom. I know my mate is a wolf, I can sense it, I can smell it, but I have no recollection of how or why I know any of this. Is he really my mate? Something in my heart tells me that I do indeed have one, although I do not have a wolf to guide me. I know I am not a wolf; my mate has told me that I am a witch, but I do not recall that either. I recall nothing. A clock ticked the seconds away, the sound echoed in my head, as I pulled my long walnut hair from behind my neck over my shoulder and played with the ends between my fingers, thinking silently to myself. Who was I? Was I always a witch? How did I end up here? I had a strange accent compared to everyone else in the castle, so I knew I was not local. For that matter, I
CHAPTER #55“WITHOUT MEREDITH”LUCCA’S POV: It had been nearly a month since we had brought my beloved home. I loved my Luna more than I could have ever imagined. The mate bond was real, and I thanked the Goddess every morning and every night for finding her. She was everything that I could have ever wanted. Beautiful, passionate, funny, and highly intelligent. We found that we had similar interests, and she began working with me part time on historical renovations within my company Crestridge Builders. Watching her face light up when we brought on a new project filled my heart with love and joy. Bridgette was brilliant at her work in the office, and yet still made time to be the most incredible Luna the pack and I had ever seen, and that wasn’t just me being bias. She had a knack for treating pack members like beloved family, she was the perfect pack mother. Disagreements had resolved over sixty percent simply by her communication skills over the pack. She als
CHAPTER #54“TAKEN”BRIDGETTE’S POV: The blue haze that I was so familiar with now surrounded me in the darkness. Everything was silent, and I was alone. I could feel the claustrophobia overtaking me as I reached forward in the night searching for my escape only to feel and find nothing. The faint scent of menthol cigarettes lingered in my nose, and I could feel my anxiety rise, as I wanted nothing more than to break down and panic. To lose my self-control and cry, scream until I knew I was back into the arms of my loved ones. Instead, I stood in complete darkness, like an empty realm trying to swallow me. I felt the first distinctive squirm in my stomach, causing me to instinctively lower my hands protectively to my belly. I was feeling overwhelmed, I wanted to scream, yet I bit my lip and fought with the tears. I refused to be defeated because I was left alone in darkness. The silence was deafening, the blue haze cast me in a cocoon, illuminating only inches
CHAPTER #54"BATTLE OF THE ROGUES”BRIDGETTE’S POV: Aurora’s senses were up as I shook my room mates. They were less than impressed with me and rousing them was nearly impossible. However, I knew in my heart that tonight was the night that my father and my mate would be coming for me, for us. To free me, to free us! Our reign of terror would be coming to an end soon. I felt giddy at the prospect of being saved. “My father and my mate are coming to get us. Common, get ye up!” I badgered the girls and pulled the cotton quilt away from Rose’s face. A hand came up and swatted at me, but I dunked my nose. “Your daddy and mate can’t do anything against an entire rogue army. Your hallucinating, although wishful thinking.” Ava said as she attempted to grab the blanket back from me. I smiled; an evil smirk hazed onto my face. She had no idea, I was simply a regular girl, a typcail she-wolf with perhaps a handful of allies and a mate somewhere. Most would rati
CHAPTER #52DELAY NO LONGERLUCCA’S POV: “Where is Meredith.” Those words out of Ryder’s mouth haunted me, the hair rose on the back of my neck, and I felt my soul become cold. We couldn’t be looking at another kidnapping, could we? Was Evan crazy enough to come, or to send some one within yards of over 150 warrior wolves, three Alpha’s and the Alpha King to grab a Celtic witch, and for what reason? How would he have even known about her, or known she was here? He would have to be utterly mad! My face was blank and I heard a woman’s voice, and then a gentle petite hand shake my shoulder. “Lucca, snap out of it. What are you thinking? Undoubtably the girl just wandered off. She’s a witch, she will be fine in this area.” Evelyn said calmly, trying to gain my focus. However as I glanced at Ryder, I could tell by the expression on his face that nothing was fine, and my instincts, as well as Enzo screamed that the girl was gone. The problem was, I could
CHAPTER #51“THE BRANCH OF WAR”LUCCA’S POV: I had shifted into my wolf Enzo while in the cabin and had followed the Alpha King out to address our warrior wolves. I was surprised when he shifted mid-step as exited the witches house, but I kept forgetting he was a Lycan. The other thing that he was able to do was mind link and open hold conversations with any pack member telepathically. It really expressed the superiority that he held in the wolf community. I had to break into a trot to keep up with him, and I noticed Ryder out of the corner of my eye just loitering along the tree line. I couldn’t mind link him because he was not affiliated with my pack, and especially not in his human form, only the Alpha King could. I sighed inwardly; I would have to update him later on the plans. I also knew the fact that his mate was here and had not readily accepted him wore heavily on his mind. I remembered the fear and anxiety I had when I had first met Bridge
CHAPTER #50“THE FATED BITE”EVAN’S POV: I raced blindly into the forest, where I went didn’t matter, all I knew was I needed to get away from that cabin, from her. I don’t know how long I ran, I ran until my wolf was on the verge of collapse. How stupid I had been, things were going just fine until I listened to my father and took that stupid Princess. I had my second chance mate, my concubines, my pack… I should have killed my father instead of allowing him to interfere, pervert my mind into thinking I could become King. Me, a lowly North American Alpha, King of all Lycans and werewolves. How stupid and deluded had I been. What was I thinking? Granted, their was no dispute that producing an heir with the lineage of the Alpha King would be amazing. The resulting pup would be a royal no matter what happened, or who the father was, and Bridgette was beautiful, no one could deny that. She was one of the most beautiful women I had ever laid eyes on, but regardless
CHAPTER #49“A GIFT FROM THE GODDESS”RYDER’S POV: Evelyn was instrumental in helping the Alpha’s with planning. She told them where the camp was, provided maps and access points they would need to access the mountain and to defeat the encampment of rogues. The remainder of the day both Alpha’s were on their phones coordinating with other packs, council members and allies. They were planning the attack for tomorrow at dawn before the rogues caught wind of anything. Hiding at my grandmother’s house was strategically the best thing for us. We were far enough away from the rogue’s patrols to keep them from finding us here, yet close enough to keep a keen eye on what the enemy was doing. The most important thing at this point was making sure Evan and the rogues stayed put. If Evan decided to move camp, or worse yet, remove the girls, we would be forced to start all over again. Meredith had steered away from me and had spent most of the time talking with my grandmot
CHAPTER #48“THE CURSE”BRIDGETTE’S POV: Trent and Trey took me into a large room on the left side of the rustic stairway. They opened the steel door with a large skeleton key and gently escorted me inside. They were respectful to me, and I smiled kindly to them. Although they were in the wrong, they were simply following their Alpha’s orders. They closed the door behind me and left me standing alone in this simple barren room with a grouping of twin beds lined up against the wall. I heard a door close from behind me and spun around quickly to see a pretty girl with freckles, grey eyes and sierra colored brown hair, hanging just past her shoulders, dripping wet. She held a white towel around her tiny body, her eyes filled with alarm at seeing me and she quickly took a step back. “Ava…” she said in a weak cracking voice. I stood my ground and watched as another girl, taller yet just as thin raced to the other girl’s side. This girl resembled Emily, s
