CHAPTER 7
"MINE"-
Lucca’s POV:
The music continued to blast out loudly while I waited for my mate to return to me. She was ravishing, I couldn’t recall a woman so beautiful, my wait had sure been worth it. She had porcelain skin, emerald, green eyes, and thick luscious auburn hair flowing down her back, and my mind wandered to her body. Her hourglass shape was magnificent, curvaceous, and sultry; so perfectly balanced it appeared her bottom had been made to flow into that stool. And when I had touched her, the sparks ignited within my fingers, and I knew immediately that she was the one for me.
I could also tell that she was a powerful wolf and there was indeed a story behind her. When I had radiated my Alpha aura, one thing I had noticed was that she had not reacted to it, had not bowed her head, had not submitted, and then simply smiled at me. That told me that she had to be an Alpha herself, but where did she come from and why? Her accent alluded that she maybe Scottish, however I couldn’t be sure.
I glanced back over to the bathroom and frowned, I realized she was a woman, but seriously how long did it take? I wondered to myself. I was nearly done with my drink, while the one I had ordered for her still sat in front of me untouched.
“So, didn’t work out huh. I guess Chris won’t be getting that house after all.” Cohan announced allowed as he walked up behind me and took my mate’s seat. My eyes flickered dangerously at the nerve of him to take my beloved’s chair.
“How dare you sit there.” I growled venomously. Cohan raised his drink to his lips, however paused when her saw my anger towards him and tipped his head at me curiously.
“Why, she’s not here.” He answered hesitantly, cautiously trying to read my disposition as he slowly took a sip.
“She simply went to the bathroom; she will be returning.” I snapped angrily at his boldness, I felt as though I may have need to remind my men just exactly who the Alpha was. I slid Bridgette’s drink closer to me as I noticed the bewildered and confused look gravitating in my Beta’s eyes.
“But I was just outside, and I watched her get into an Uber and leave.” I felt as though my heart had just been ripped out of my chest and my anger exploded. I stood immediately, his words hit me like a vile of wolfsbane, knocking the chair over behind me and into another patron beside me.
“Where the fuck did she go?” I roared, making a handful of the patrons nervously glance over at me. I was so furious I was nearly shaking. I was 32 years old and had been waiting for my mate loyally my entire life! Because, in my heart, I knew the Goddess had blessed me with one, I always knew, I just needed to wait for her. And wait I did. However, I was never going to sit idly by for her to simply lie to me and walk away! Hell no, this was not happening! I needed my mate, and like it or not, she was it!
Cohan reached forward carefully and placed his hand on my shoulder. I was trembling with both fear and fury, the thought of losing what I had yearned and waited for so long was nearly debilitating. The bartender had heard my outburst and had instantly walked over to me, the last thing he wanted was a neighboring Alpha losing his senses in a human club.
“Lucca, what’s going on?” he whispered yelled at me, however I simply stared straight ahead, unable to process my next move. It was then Cohan spoke up on my behalf.
“The girl slipped out.” He answered, nearly afraid to speak those words. The bartender nodded and leaned over the bar, directing Cohan to inch over to him.
“I saw a hotel key for the Hampton Inn when she had opened her clutch bag. She paid cash every drink.” He told my Beta quietly; although I had heard him clearly with my werewolf hearing. Cohan nodded, then gripped my forearm to pull me away from the bar.
“Do you want to take some men and we can come with you to get her?” I instantly shook my head and took a step back from my faithful Beta.
“No, this is something I need to take care of myself.” I answered as I tossed a $100 bill onto the bar top and quickly strode out of the club.
Bridgette’s POV:
As I returned to my hotel, I quickly turned and locked the door behind me, including the dead bolt. I walked back over to the bed and sat down; utterly exhausted.
“What is wrong with you! That is our mate, Bridgette! And such a beautiful specimen of male!” Aurora whined furiously. “I can hardly wait to see what his wolf looks like, and you left him!”
“I think it’s best if we just return to Scotland. This was a horrible idea! I had no intention of coming to America and finding some mutt for a mate. Just think, the Moon Goddess matched us with an American!”
“He could be something special, but we may never know if you don’t even give him a chance… and I can tell he’s a powerful wolf!” Aurora scolded me as I quickly snatched the luggage bag from the rack and placed it on the bed. She was livid, and I could understand why. It was a wolf’s nature to look for their mate, and I was letting her down. I let out a sighed as I took out my cell phone.
“I’m going to call Meredith.”
“Yes, by all means, call the witch and Goddess forbid you listen to your own wolf!” Aurora growled at me furiously. I tapped on Mere’s name and the phone rang, and finally on the 3rd ring a young woman’s voice picked up the line.
“Hello?”
“Mere? You there?”
“Bridgette! How are you doing? Your parents, OMG! I don’t think your father has ever been so angry!” My friend’s beautiful Scottish voice echoed through the line. I frowned, if only she knew my father had banned me from returning home and had broken my link to the pack. I sat down onto the bed slowly as I considered my next words.
“You didn’t hear?” I asked solemnly. I could almost see Meredith shaking her head as she responded with a No.
“My father banished me from the pack. I am no longer his heir.” I paused for only a moment before I continued. “Which, I mean, I am fine with no longer being his heir, but the banishment was a touch harsh.” There was silence over the line, and I could tell Meredith was processing everything I had just told her.
“And you won’t believe what happened tonight. I went to a club, and great Goddess, I ran into my mate! Can you believe it?” I heard a gasp from the other end of the line. I stood, turned my phone onto speaker and then set it onto the bed as began pulling clothes out of the drawers and repacking the luggage.
“Is he handsome then? Tell me what all happened!” Meredith pried as I piled the clothes into the luggage. I paused before responding, biting my bottom lip as his striking face filtered into my memory.
“He is a very handsome man. When I first laid eyes on him, I honestly thought he was some kind of mafia boss. His Aura appears strong, so my guess is that he is an Alpha” I chucked as I recalled our meeting. “He introduced himself as Lucca Mariano, but that is as much as I know. I didn’t stick around long enough to find out more. I am catching the first flight back to Scotland.” I sighed once again as I rubbed my forehead with frustration. “What are the bloody odds?”
“Britty, Ya know, with your father severing your link with the pack and disinheriting you, perhaps it would be best for you to learn more about your fated mate? I mean, isn’t that the reason you left here to begin with? You were fighting with your father about being forced to take a chosen mate and not being allowed to wait for your fated mate? I mean, the moon goddess has blessed you with a handsome Alpha and you’re turning your back on such a gift.”
“Honestly, I got spooked. Besides, I came back to the hotel and left him at the club. It’s unlikely he will find me anyhow. Best I just get back home and concentrate on my career. I can watch from the sidelines as my brothers fulfil our destiny.”
“You have always believed your brothers are made for greatness, but what of you? My premonitions of late have showcased triumph for you. Maybe you are destined to be the Luna of a foreign land? You don’t have to be the Queen to be important.” There was a hesitation in my friend’s voice as she paused before continuing.
“I love you Mere. I am going to continue packing. I will be coming home soon.” I told her bluntly, deciding I did not want to continue our conversation. I guess I had been expecting a different outcome than I received.
“Britty, the triumph is the ultimate reward, the trials to get there are harsh. Your fearlessness and bravery shall be tested. I will look deeper into my premonition; I have only glimpsed it and honestly didn’t dwell on it with your departure to the Americas.” There was silence on the line before I heard my friend speak once more.
“Alright then.” Meredith sounded slightly defeated, realizing that I was closing the call selfishly, but I needed time to process everything and as of this moment, I just wanted to come home. “I love you Britty.” My friend said somberly, realizing that discussing this matter with me anymore was futile.
“I love you too, Mere.” I said quietly, as I lifted my phone from the bed and closed the call.
I finished packing my belongings and hurriedly changed into some black yoga pants, my black tennis shoes, and a multi-colored athletic top. I compiled everything together, set the luggage on the floor, swung the backpack over my shoulder, grabbed the keys to the car I had rented and strode quickly over to the door. It was nearly 2:30 in the morning so I didn’t expect anyone to bother me, or so I thought. That was until I opened the door to the hallway of my hotel room.
“Shit!” I gasped as I dropped my keys and backpack to the floor and stood, mouth wide open in horror as I saw the God-like figure of my mate standing directly in front of me. His hand was up in a fist, it appeared as though he was just preparing to knock on my door. He smiled with amusement when his eyes met mine and I immediately felt panic.
“What in the living hell are you doing here?” I growled once I regained my composure, staring at my mate furiously. My mate grinned wickedly at me as he lowered his hand and took a step towards me. He took another, and then another, causing me to slink back uncomfortably until I was nearly standing beside the bed, and he was fully in my room, and my eyes widened with alarm as he kicked the door closed behind him.
“I met this girl, ravishing, lovely woman while I was out on the town with my friends for a bachelor party this evening. Now, this girl, I bought a drink for and sat anxiously waiting for her to come out of the loo, I think she called it, to join me.” his toothy grin sparkled as he slowly began circling me like prey. Although he seemed pleased to see me, his eyes were flickering with danger, and I could sense his wolf near, causing me serious unrest.
“And the most intriguing scenario of this story is, that she is my long-awaited mate. I could tell even though I believe she had attempted to cover her scent from me.” I frowned listening to his words, my legs now firmly pressed against the mattress. I remained standing, watching him cautiously. His aura seemed more powerful than before, more menacing, and I was attributing that to his wolf and his anger at me.
“Sir, I think this is all a huge mistake.” I said, appearing much more confident than I actually felt. I was a small female, and my mate was a very large male. Overpowering me physically would not be a difficult task for him, and even Aurora, well, I had no intention of letting her out. So, I was on my own. And although my aura was significantly stronger than most all other wolves, my mate didn’t really seem to be affected by me.
“I don’t think so. See, I know you are my mate, the sparks don’t lie. The only thing that is a bit confusing is how you masked your scent, so I didn’t catch wind of you sooner. Some kind of witchcraft, I am guessing?” he asked, although it wasn’t much of a question. He took another step closer to me. There was nowhere for me to go, then he swiftly took me into his arms, the sparks exploding throughout my body, making my knees feel like they were going to give out, causing me to learn into him to catch myself from falling, my hands pressed against his rock-hard chest.
My breath caught in my throat as I looked up into the handsome dark eyes, and like a rattle snake, his lips found mine in a soul crushing kiss. The alarm signaled in my head; however my body began to meld into him, betraying me. He traced his tongue across my bottom lip requesting invitation, and my body complied eagerly. His tongue swirled within mine and a soft moan escaped me. As we broke apart, I opened my eyes to see his dark eyes flickering with gold and a satisfactory smiled graced his lips.
“Mine.” He whispered.
CHAPTER 8 “MARKED” Lucca’s POV: I had been furious when I had left the bar, so much in fact, it had taken me a few moments to stop trembling and regain my bearings. I had gone to the Hampton hotel in haste. She was mine and nothing was going to stand between us, and I refused to be left by my own Luna. The drive was short to the hotel in my black 7 series BMW, pulling into a parking spot in the front of the building. I hurried into the hotel lobby and attempted to compose myself as put on my best smile and charm and greeted the front desk attendant. “Hello there.” I said warmly. The skinny brunette woman looked me up and down slowly, lifting an eyebrow at me curiously, I could smell her unease with me. “Can I help you?” she asked, very apprehensive with my presence. I lowered my head, and slumped my shoulders just a little bit, hoping not to be too overwhelming to this young girl and end up scaring her. Last thing I needed was to frighten her and have
CHAPTER 9 “NEW REALITY” Bridgette’s POV: I woke the following morning to a dull throbbing in my head. I reached up and touched my forehead and as I did, felt a slight pinch at the base of my neck. I froze as the memories of last night fluttered into my mind. Had I passed out? Everything was a blur until I took a deep breath and caught that overwhelming scent of bergamot and realized I was laying in the arms of my mate. “This is not good.” I whimpered to myself as I contemplated what to do to wriggle out of this man’s very strong arms. I slowly turned, rolling onto my back, putting me nearly nose to nose with my captor, yes, that was how I felt like referring to him this morning. If it had been up to me, I would have been on the first flight back to Scotland this morning and I would have simply forgotten that I had flown to America in the first place. He ceased to wake but latched onto me a little more tightly causing me to freeze as he readjusted his
CHAPTER 10 “DAUGHTER OF THE KING” Lucca’s POV: I desperately needed some answers. I wanted to get back home to my pack and naturally I wanted to take my mate with me. However, somethings were needed to be answered before I could introduce her to anyone, like why my mate glows when she is angry, and who she is frankly. I had her first name and that was it. I could tell she was foreign, and I knew she had a strong Aura, but hell, even a human could tell those things about her. We only had a few blocks before we reached the I-Hop restaurant and I wanted to learn as much as I could in these few moments, especially about her electric blue glow before we walked in. That type of magic was not anything I wanted overheard, especially in a human town. There were somethings I didn’t want anyone to know about my mate. Bridgette was staring ahead watching the scenery when she finally answered me. “I am a Lycan.” She said softly, still refusing to look at me and wat
CHAPTER 11 “THE JAMES BOYS” BRIDGETTE’S POV: I was so very thankful when Lucca agreed to lend me his car. Although I had simply made up the fact that I had forgotten something, I needed to get back to the hotel, and quickly. I could feel the heat flushing in my cheeks as I maintained a running walk into the parking lot. As I opened the door of the sporty black BMW, I caught another man staring at me bizarrely. I paused and caught the unmistaken scent of menthol cigarettes and out of the corner of my eye, I watched him flick the butt away as he closed the door to his red Porsche. He was tall and blonde, a handsome man with a thick mustache and piercing blue eyes. His nostrils flared as he caught my scent, a disturbing smirk filtered upon his face, and he methodically began walking towards me. I watched in horror as he advanced. I panicked, this had to be another Alpha, and I could tell simply by the way he moved that he was dangerous. I hurriedly opened the car
CHAPTER 12 “AMBUSH” LUCCA’S POV: Luckily my Uber was outside of the restaurant as I walked out of the I-Hop, carrying my array of food. I was fuming after the interaction I had with Evan and his father, nasty pair of males. Both were out of their minds, and I now was sadly wondering if the multiple complaints of these men raping their many pack members was actually true. The thought sickened me, and I felt an honest fear and helplessness. I rode in the car in silence, tapped the tip button on my phone, and after leaving a generous tip to my driver, nodded and exited the car. I was back at the Hampton Inn, and I saw my car parked next to a beautiful blue challenger. As I walked into the lobby, I could vaguely smell my mate, and my worst fears were confirmed, she was coming into her heat, and we would need to keep her under lock and key, because any unmated werewolf male that caught wind of her would come circling around. Some would detour from her becaus
CHAPTER 13 “TWO SOULS” Bridgette’s POV: I watched my mate walk out of the hotel room, leaving me alone to struggle with my own mind and my wolf. Aurora was howling with despair, wanting him to return as quickly as possible, meanwhile, my mind was in torment. What was I going to do? My hormones were raging to the point I as having a hard time focusing on anything but being touched by my mate. It was frustrating and honestly a little frightened. All of this was happening so quickly I felt as though I didn’t have time to process my own thoughts. “I think my body was waiting to do this to me.” I muttered as I backed away from the door and took a seat on the end of the bed. When Lucca had walked into the room, my instincts were high and had he not left, I would probably be mated by now. I fidgeted with my fingers and took a deep breath, my body felt like it was in a furnace. I took another deep breath and frustratedly picked up my phone, it was nearing 5pm here in t
CHAPTER 14 “THE MEETING” Bridgette’s POV: I had never experienced such a blissful night such as this in my life. Lucca and I made love over and over, and true to his werewolf stamina, he never seemed to tire. My heat was no longer raging, it had calmed to a mild warmth, calming, almost comforting, and being in Lucca’s arms only made it feel even more right. Lucca, at some point had put out the Do Not Disturb sign, and thankfully so. After another round of truly mind-blowing sex, I laid back onto my pillow and lazily stared at the ceiling. “It’s nearly 4pm, we have been in this bed nearly 24 hours.” My mate spoke as he glanced at his phone after picking it up from the night table. “I think I should order us something to eat. Any requests?” Lucca asked as he reached over and brushed a tendril of hair away from my cheek. I turned my head and smiled at him warmly, searching his bold beautiful dark eyes. “Not really.” I murmured happily. “I just feel so c
CHAPTER 15 “REALIZATION OF EVIL” LUCCA’S POV: I walked into the den of my packhouse once I had escorted most of the meeting members out. Only Alexander and Hudson had remained, lazily sipping on my favorite scotch, deep in conversation as I approached them. “This is going to be one huge mess if the kidnappings and murders are indeed Evan’s doing. And if one coroner gets his hands on a she-wolf before we do…” Hudson shook his head while he spoke, turning his attention to me upon noticing that I had entered the room. “I honestly never thought that he would go that wacko.” I said slowly rubbing the back of my neck. The other Alphas nodded in agreement. “He could singlehandedly expose us all, expose all supernatural’s to the human world, and I think the council has more fear of that then the kidnappings and killings. Wallace was less than pleased when he heard that woman was found by the river. Thankfully she was a human.” “Yes, but a human rap
CHAPTER #56“PROLOGED TO THE HYBRID MATES”(First Sequel of HIS HIGHLANDER LUNA and the HIGHLANDER SERIES) My memory is a blank space. I sit idly in the darkness while my mate sleeps in our bed, I have hence vacated to the love seat in our bedroom. I know my mate is a wolf, I can sense it, I can smell it, but I have no recollection of how or why I know any of this. Is he really my mate? Something in my heart tells me that I do indeed have one, although I do not have a wolf to guide me. I know I am not a wolf; my mate has told me that I am a witch, but I do not recall that either. I recall nothing. A clock ticked the seconds away, the sound echoed in my head, as I pulled my long walnut hair from behind my neck over my shoulder and played with the ends between my fingers, thinking silently to myself. Who was I? Was I always a witch? How did I end up here? I had a strange accent compared to everyone else in the castle, so I knew I was not local. For that matter, I
CHAPTER #55“WITHOUT MEREDITH”LUCCA’S POV: It had been nearly a month since we had brought my beloved home. I loved my Luna more than I could have ever imagined. The mate bond was real, and I thanked the Goddess every morning and every night for finding her. She was everything that I could have ever wanted. Beautiful, passionate, funny, and highly intelligent. We found that we had similar interests, and she began working with me part time on historical renovations within my company Crestridge Builders. Watching her face light up when we brought on a new project filled my heart with love and joy. Bridgette was brilliant at her work in the office, and yet still made time to be the most incredible Luna the pack and I had ever seen, and that wasn’t just me being bias. She had a knack for treating pack members like beloved family, she was the perfect pack mother. Disagreements had resolved over sixty percent simply by her communication skills over the pack. She als
CHAPTER #54“TAKEN”BRIDGETTE’S POV: The blue haze that I was so familiar with now surrounded me in the darkness. Everything was silent, and I was alone. I could feel the claustrophobia overtaking me as I reached forward in the night searching for my escape only to feel and find nothing. The faint scent of menthol cigarettes lingered in my nose, and I could feel my anxiety rise, as I wanted nothing more than to break down and panic. To lose my self-control and cry, scream until I knew I was back into the arms of my loved ones. Instead, I stood in complete darkness, like an empty realm trying to swallow me. I felt the first distinctive squirm in my stomach, causing me to instinctively lower my hands protectively to my belly. I was feeling overwhelmed, I wanted to scream, yet I bit my lip and fought with the tears. I refused to be defeated because I was left alone in darkness. The silence was deafening, the blue haze cast me in a cocoon, illuminating only inches
CHAPTER #54"BATTLE OF THE ROGUES”BRIDGETTE’S POV: Aurora’s senses were up as I shook my room mates. They were less than impressed with me and rousing them was nearly impossible. However, I knew in my heart that tonight was the night that my father and my mate would be coming for me, for us. To free me, to free us! Our reign of terror would be coming to an end soon. I felt giddy at the prospect of being saved. “My father and my mate are coming to get us. Common, get ye up!” I badgered the girls and pulled the cotton quilt away from Rose’s face. A hand came up and swatted at me, but I dunked my nose. “Your daddy and mate can’t do anything against an entire rogue army. Your hallucinating, although wishful thinking.” Ava said as she attempted to grab the blanket back from me. I smiled; an evil smirk hazed onto my face. She had no idea, I was simply a regular girl, a typcail she-wolf with perhaps a handful of allies and a mate somewhere. Most would rati
CHAPTER #52DELAY NO LONGERLUCCA’S POV: “Where is Meredith.” Those words out of Ryder’s mouth haunted me, the hair rose on the back of my neck, and I felt my soul become cold. We couldn’t be looking at another kidnapping, could we? Was Evan crazy enough to come, or to send some one within yards of over 150 warrior wolves, three Alpha’s and the Alpha King to grab a Celtic witch, and for what reason? How would he have even known about her, or known she was here? He would have to be utterly mad! My face was blank and I heard a woman’s voice, and then a gentle petite hand shake my shoulder. “Lucca, snap out of it. What are you thinking? Undoubtably the girl just wandered off. She’s a witch, she will be fine in this area.” Evelyn said calmly, trying to gain my focus. However as I glanced at Ryder, I could tell by the expression on his face that nothing was fine, and my instincts, as well as Enzo screamed that the girl was gone. The problem was, I could
CHAPTER #51“THE BRANCH OF WAR”LUCCA’S POV: I had shifted into my wolf Enzo while in the cabin and had followed the Alpha King out to address our warrior wolves. I was surprised when he shifted mid-step as exited the witches house, but I kept forgetting he was a Lycan. The other thing that he was able to do was mind link and open hold conversations with any pack member telepathically. It really expressed the superiority that he held in the wolf community. I had to break into a trot to keep up with him, and I noticed Ryder out of the corner of my eye just loitering along the tree line. I couldn’t mind link him because he was not affiliated with my pack, and especially not in his human form, only the Alpha King could. I sighed inwardly; I would have to update him later on the plans. I also knew the fact that his mate was here and had not readily accepted him wore heavily on his mind. I remembered the fear and anxiety I had when I had first met Bridge
CHAPTER #50“THE FATED BITE”EVAN’S POV: I raced blindly into the forest, where I went didn’t matter, all I knew was I needed to get away from that cabin, from her. I don’t know how long I ran, I ran until my wolf was on the verge of collapse. How stupid I had been, things were going just fine until I listened to my father and took that stupid Princess. I had my second chance mate, my concubines, my pack… I should have killed my father instead of allowing him to interfere, pervert my mind into thinking I could become King. Me, a lowly North American Alpha, King of all Lycans and werewolves. How stupid and deluded had I been. What was I thinking? Granted, their was no dispute that producing an heir with the lineage of the Alpha King would be amazing. The resulting pup would be a royal no matter what happened, or who the father was, and Bridgette was beautiful, no one could deny that. She was one of the most beautiful women I had ever laid eyes on, but regardless
CHAPTER #49“A GIFT FROM THE GODDESS”RYDER’S POV: Evelyn was instrumental in helping the Alpha’s with planning. She told them where the camp was, provided maps and access points they would need to access the mountain and to defeat the encampment of rogues. The remainder of the day both Alpha’s were on their phones coordinating with other packs, council members and allies. They were planning the attack for tomorrow at dawn before the rogues caught wind of anything. Hiding at my grandmother’s house was strategically the best thing for us. We were far enough away from the rogue’s patrols to keep them from finding us here, yet close enough to keep a keen eye on what the enemy was doing. The most important thing at this point was making sure Evan and the rogues stayed put. If Evan decided to move camp, or worse yet, remove the girls, we would be forced to start all over again. Meredith had steered away from me and had spent most of the time talking with my grandmot
CHAPTER #48“THE CURSE”BRIDGETTE’S POV: Trent and Trey took me into a large room on the left side of the rustic stairway. They opened the steel door with a large skeleton key and gently escorted me inside. They were respectful to me, and I smiled kindly to them. Although they were in the wrong, they were simply following their Alpha’s orders. They closed the door behind me and left me standing alone in this simple barren room with a grouping of twin beds lined up against the wall. I heard a door close from behind me and spun around quickly to see a pretty girl with freckles, grey eyes and sierra colored brown hair, hanging just past her shoulders, dripping wet. She held a white towel around her tiny body, her eyes filled with alarm at seeing me and she quickly took a step back. “Ava…” she said in a weak cracking voice. I stood my ground and watched as another girl, taller yet just as thin raced to the other girl’s side. This girl resembled Emily, s
