Chapter 70

When I arrived at the law office the next day, I kept wondering if I had made the right decision. Dominic was with me but remained quiet, for which I was grateful. When we were standing outside Lawyer Alexander’s office, Dominic took my sweaty hand and squeezed it lightly.

“Are you sure you want to do this?” Dominic asked as we waited for the lawyer to open the door.

My head screamed no, but my mouth said the opposite. “I’m sure.”

“You can come in now.” The receptionist, who had entered the office to see if the lawyer was ready, opened the door and stepped to the side.

“Thank you.” I smiled politely and walked past her.

I expected to see only one man in the office, but there were two. They both stood upon me entering. They were both older men, but not as old as I expected. They were roughly around my mother’s age, if not a little older.
