Maya

My eyes fluttered open to a familiar ceiling, its dark wooden beams. A dull ache throbbed at the back of my head, and as I shifted, I felt the weight of a thick blanket draped over me. The fabric was soft, yet it carried a faint scent of detergent and something else—something undeniably masculine.

I slowly pushed myself into a sitting position, my limbs weak, as if my body had forgotten how to hold itself together. It took a moment for my mind to catch up, to register the fact that I wasn't wearing the clothes I had on earlier. Instead, I was in something loose and dry. My skin felt damp, a lingering reminder of the cold water Roman had forced me under.

And then, like a dam breaking, the memories flooded back.

The shower. The way I had fought against the freezing spray. How I had slipped in a desperate attempt to escape. The sharp crack of my skull hitting the tiled floor.

I clenched the blanket tighter around me and pulled it off my body and was about to get out of bed when the

MayaHis lips crashed against mine so fast, I barely had time to breathe. One second I was glaring at him for pushing my buttons, the next, my back hit the couch, his body pressing down over mine like a fire I couldn't smother.Roman pinned both my hands above my head, claiming, and it made me moan—God help me, it made me moan.I knew I was walking into trouble the moment I grabbed my car keys and left the house. My brain had whispered answers, but my body... my body had screamed him.His tongue slid into my mouth, and my body arched up against him, greedy for his touch. I could feel the heat pooling between my legs already, soaking through my panties. It was pathetic how quickly I unraveled under him.Roman kissed like he knew every part of me—like he'd been starved for it.And I had missed it. Missed him.His mouth left mine to trail hot kisses down my neck, and I bit back another moan. The way he touched me... the way he made me wet and drip... I hated how much I wanted it.I was s

Roman"They were laundering through real estate again," Leo said, tossing the first folder on the table. "Same setup. Dummy companies. Untraceable names. But look—this one's tied to a warehouse outside Chicago. Could be a front."I leaned over the open file, scanning the familiar shell structures looped just enough to throw someone off. Not me."Greedy bastard's getting sloppy," I muttered, flipping the page. "Or too comfortable."Uncovering this wasn't just about Hartwell anymore. It was bigger. Dirtier. Palermo's name had been circling like a vulture for years, but this—this was the closest I'd ever gotten to proving he wasn't just the puppet master. He was knee-deep in the rot himself.Leo's voice cut through my thoughts. "You really think Hartwell knew Palermo was behind this?"I narrowed my eyes. "They've been into it together longer than we realize. Hartwell might be arrogant, but he's not stupid."And I'd burn the entire operation to the ground. No hesitation."Sir, If we push

Maya"I'm just saying, Maya... you've barely touched your food," Cassie muttered, pointing at my still-full plate of lasagna.I poked at it with my fork. "I'm eating. Kind of.""It's Saturday. No work, no bosses. You should be enjoying this." She sipped her drink, then narrowed her eyes at me. "Unless you're avoiding someone."I said nothing. Just focused on the piece I finally brought to my mouth. Because she was right. I was avoiding someone. Roman.Thank God it was Saturday. I didn't know how I'd have managed to sit in the same office building as him after what happened last night. After that kiss in his kitchen. After the way he looked at me like he'd been waiting to do that for years. And worse, after the way I let him. I'd left his place not long after that moment. Claimed I needed to be home before midnight, though truthfully, I just needed distance. From him. From the feelings clawing back to the surface I swore I'd buried. But I wasn't prepared for what waited at home either

  • His For A Night   Chapter 58

RomanI looked to my right. She hadn't said a word since I set her down in the car. The same girl who could throw daggers with her mouth was now sitting stiff and silent, eyes glued to the window like it held all the answers to the universe. Her arms were folded tight across her chest, the way she always sat when she was trying too hard not to feel something.Leo was at the wheel, silent too. I dragged my palm down my jaw and leaned my head back slightly. The city lights flashed across the windshield, making it harder to ignore the pulse in my temple."I didn't carry you to make you sulk the whole ride," She didn't even turn to look at me. Good. She was mad.But at least she was here."Were you going to stand there all night pretending your Uber was coming. That car hasn't moved in ten minutes," I added."Maybe I preferred waiting," she snapped, still facing the window.I smirked. "You preferred waiting alone. At night. In that area. That's either brave or stupid.""Maybe I didn't w

MayaI kept my eyes fixed on the wall in front of me. I wasn't about to give him the satisfaction of seeing me break."I'm not crying," I muttered. He chuckled and shut the door behind him with a soft thud. "Right," he said, the word dripping with teasing disbelief. "Just sitting on the stairs alone... eyes red... voice wobbly... not crying at all. Got it."I rolled my eyes, sniffed once, and hugged my knees tighter. "Go away, Roman.""Nope."I expected him to lean against the wall, toss a few more sarcastic lines my way before leaving me alone.Instead, he sank down beside me. Right next to me."What are you doing?"He ignored the question and studied my profile like he was trying to read a language only he could understand. "You know... you're kind of a crybaby."I scoffed and turned my face away. "And you're kind of a jerk.""And yet here we are," he said smoothly, his tone lighter than the weight that hung in the air. "Sitting together like old times."I hated that part of me want

  • His For A Night   Chapter 56

MayaI stepped into the lobby, My head wasn't in any of it. My conversation with Roman yesterday looped through my thoughts like a stubborn track stuck on repeat.I didn't want to admit that a part of me still did know him—the Roman I left behind in Chicago. The one who gave me shelter when everything in my life fell apart. The one who annoyed the hell out of me but also listened, challenged me, made me feel like more than just my last name."And now you're working under him, brilliant," I muttered to myself, reaching the elevator.I pressed the button and waited, arms crossed, eyes fixed on the silver doors.Mateo's words echoed in the corners of my mind. He's dangerous, Maya. He uses people. But what if Mateo said that to get under his skin? To plant a seed of doubt and watch it grow? What if Roman wasn't the villain Mateo wanted me to see?The elevator dinged, and the doors slid open. I stepped inside, reaching for the floor button—A hand blocked the doors. And in walked the las
