Chapter 02

Aidan’s POV

My alarm blared irritating my ears. I turned it off. I walked in the direction of the bathroom thinking about the meeting he had with the board. They said it was urgent, he wandered what it was?

He took his bath, walked into his closet picked and wore his black suit. He went in the direction to the kitchen where he saw Marta the oldest of his maids serving his breakfast.

‘Good Morning’ she said cheerfully. ‘Morning Marta’ I responded.

While eating breakfast my mom walked in. ‘Morning Mom’ I said with my face full.

‘Aidan, don’t talk with your mouth full’ she scolded but smiled. She kissed my head, ‘how are things going over at Walker’s tech?’ she asked

‘Things are going great, we recently closed a huge deal with one of our top clients’ I said, ‘that’s great’ she said twirling the end of her hair.

I knew there was something else to it, wherever she twirls her hair means she’s nervous about something.

‘What is it mom?’ I asked.

‘Oh honey, when are you going to bring a girl home?’ there it is I thought.

‘You know am not getting any younger, when am I going to see my grandbabies huh?’ she asked frustrated.

‘I know mom but what if she’s still out there and we’ve just never crossed paths? I don’t know anytime I try to be with someone else I just s kinda, I don’t know guilty’.

I get where she is coming from but it doesn’t feel right. Let’s say I actually find someone who I like and want to be with then my mate shows up. What do I do?

But I have to figure this out soon. My dad’s been giving me hints about becoming the new alpha, and I know if I don’t find someone to call my mate he’ll do it for me and I know who he’s aiming at. The daughter of the alpha of the night wolf. Their alpha and my dad go way back, they suggested it when my parents and I went to visit one time. I know she likes me but I only see her as a friend not a mate.

‘It’s getting late I better head out’ I said getting up.

‘I am sorry if I ruined your mood this morning’ she said apologetically.

‘Course not’ I said ‘bye mom, bye Marta’

‘Have a nice day sir’ Marta said.

I arrived only 10 minutes late, as I entered the building and my closest friend Steven walked up to me.

‘You sure took your time’ he said.

‘Hey at least am here now aren’t i?’ ‘What’s the status on the robotics team recent project?’

‘Yes, everything is progressing smoothly they’ll be done by the due time’ Steven said. Steven is my information handler, I trust him to handle all the information going in and out of the enterprise, he’s been with me ever since we were babies, and he’s like a brother to me.

‘We also have an offer from…….’ Steven kept talking but then a strange scent filled my nose that blocked all my senses that I couldn’t hear him. I didn’t recognize the scent but it felt comforting, and I felt my wolf getting aroused I looked at the unfamiliar face I saw at the reception desk, something about her made me feel things I haven’t felt before.

The ding of the elevator and the door closing broke my trance. ‘Aidan’ Steven said, I stared at him. ‘Were you even listening to anything I saying?’

‘Yeah Totally, Uh who was that girl?’ I asked

‘What girl?’ he questioned

‘The one at the reception desk’

‘Oh that was one of our new recruits, why is something wrong?’ he asked

‘No nothing I just didn’t recognize her’ I said

‘Oh ok’ he said

We arrived at the third floor, Steven got out ‘Well see you at the meeting’ he said. I continued my office being at the fourth floor. When I got there my assistant Regina stood up and started filling me in on my appointments for the day. I was only half listening my mind was on the girl I saw this morning I just can’t seem to forget about her or her scent, who was she?.

I tried to push her out of my mind while working but she kept sneaking back in, I heard a knock on the door Regina brought a few papers needing my signature.

‘You seem kind of stressed sir?’ she asked batting her eyelashes.

‘I am fine’ I said.

‘You know I can help you relieve some of that stress’ she said in a tone she probably that was sweet and seductive but I found it irritating. She hits on me every chance she gets, well as long as she doesn’t try anything she can keep her job.

I finished signing and gave her the papers so she can leave. Resting my back on my chair my thoughts were once again occupied with that girl. I continued working or tried to until when I checked the time it was 12:32 when did time fly so fast?

The meeting was by 1:00 and not knowing how long it will take I was determined to go see the receptionist before the meeting. I got up walked out of my office and into the elevator when I arrived on the ground floor I saw her sitting by her desk. Her head was down so she did not notice me staring. Her scent filled my nose again and my wolf started to perk up, he has been down for years when I thought I wouldn’t find my mate.

Could she be? How do I look? I entered the bathroom for men and started to straighten my jacket and make sure my hair isn’t out of place. ‘This is it’ I said to myself.

I walked back out to see another girl behind the desk. What where did she go? Did I imagine her? I was confused then her scent filled my nose again I turned around she bumped into me. I felt tingles round my chest where she bumped into me.

‘I’m so sorry’ she said she stopped then stared at me, one could think we had a staring contest. ‘It’s you’ the words left my mouth unconsciously.

‘Umm…….am sorry I don’t think we’ve met before’, she said slightly confused. ‘I’m Rosé Carter I just started work here today actually’ her voice was like a melody to his ears. She extended her hand towards him.

‘Aidan Walker’ I said shaking her hand, tingles like electricity erupted from the hand shake. He knew she felt it too because she quickly drew back her hand. ‘Sorry um I have to go now’ she said then hurried away.

‘Wait!’ before I could run after her Steven came up to me. ‘Dude I’ve been looking everywhere for you’ he said panting a little, ‘the meeting is in five, man let’s go’ he said pulling me towards the elevator.

He arrived at the conference room right on time. After the meeting I returned to my office, Steven followed me. ‘So, am waiting’ Steven said.

‘Waiting for what?’ I asked. ‘Waiting for you to tell me what’s happening between you and that receptionist?’ he said with a smirk.

‘Well?’ he pressed on.

‘She’s my mate’ I said. His jaw went down. ‘Are you serious?’ he asked.

‘Of course I am, she is the one I’ve been waiting for’ I said imagining holding her in my arms, I can’t wait to tell mom, she’ll be thrilled but wait there was a problem.

‘There’s a problem’ I stated. ‘What?’ Steven said.

‘She’s a human’ I said. ‘Steven could sense my worry, he patted my back ‘don’t worry it’ll be alright’ he assured me.

Rosé’s POV

After I kept some distance between Aidan and I, I felt like I could breathe better why was I feeling this way? She looked at her hands what was that? I suddenly came to a stop and looked around and realized I was lost. I didn’t even look where I was going I face palm myself for not looking where I was going.

But still this building was like a maze, I bumped into someone while rounding a corner, ‘I really need to stop doing that’ I said under my breath.

‘I’m sorry’ we both said at the same time. ‘Sorry I wasn’t paying attention’ he said, ‘no am sorry I didn’t notice you coming’ I said smiling sheepishly.

‘Are you alright?’ he asked ‘yeah no problem’ I responded.

‘I have to go sorry am in a hurry’ he said going around me. ‘Bye’ he said.

‘Bye’ I said. Wait! That was my chance to ask for directions. Ugh how could I forget?

I continued walking for like 5 minutes until I found my way to my desk looking at my watch the time was 1:24 I had 6 minutes left I decided to forget about lunch and go back to work.

I continued working until I was done for the day. I grabbed my things and exited the building I was starving.

‘Hey’ I turned around and saw the man I bumped into when I got lost. ‘Hey do you need a ride?’ he asked ‘No thank you I came with my own car’. I said smiling. ‘Oh ok’.  ‘Am Joshua by the way’ he introduced himself ‘but you can call me Josh’. ‘Rosé’ I said. ‘Well I guess I’ll see you tomorrow?’ he said with a small smile. ‘Sure’ I said smiling.

Then I drove home.

Aidan’s POV

‘Well I guess I’ll see you tomorrow?’ Joshua said. ‘Sure’ Rosé replied. I felt anger seeping through me. My eyes turned a darker shade when I saw my mate smiling at him. A low growl escaped from the back of my throat, Steven placed a hand on my shoulder to calm me down.

‘Calm down man’ Steven said through our mind link, ‘how can I calm down when that guy is flirting with my mate’ I said gritting my teeth, my wolf threatening to show himself. ‘He was just trying to be nice calm down, don’t do something you will regret’.

I calmed down but still keeping my eyes glued to Joshua until he left with his car. I will make it very clear who she belongs to.
