Her question hung in the air. Unanswered.
Without saying anything, Justin moved towards the drawer.“Justin, I'm talking to you!” She thundered her tone loudly.“Just wait, my dear wife. And I will give you an answer!” Justin stated. He opened a safe inside the drawer she never knew existed. One would think it was just a plain wall. That means there were a lot of things she never knew about him in three years. He punched in the code with his back facing Ashley. Justine brought out a brown envelope."Here is your answer."Ashley slowly took the document with a thudding heart. Her hands vibrated reading the title of the document.' divorce agreement.'Her entire body went rigid. Justine had a smirk on his face looking at shattered Ashley."You never loved me, why did you Marry me? Because I'm docile." She answered her own question.Justine's eyes were void of any emotion. He brought out a pen handing it over to Ashley. She hesitated for a while."Sign it now."Justine dropped the pen on the floor. Ashley's eyes followed the pen as it rolled over to her feet. She picked the pen up. This was pure betrayal. Three years was enough to build a career.Ashley signed her side of the document. Flipping over she read the agreement which stated she would receive a monthly allowance from Justine as compensation."You should sign that too, you will need it. You would be the biggest fool if you refuse to sign it."There was a hint of mockery in his voice.Ashley left it unsigned."I don't need your money Justine. Before you came into my life I was doing just fine."Justine laughed."Fine. Come on Ashley. You were broke, a lot of debt hanging in your neck. If I hadn't stepped into your miserable life you would have jumped into the ocean.""Well this loveless marriage is a death sentence itself.""Enough!"Lady Wilson stepped into the room. All this while she had been behind the door eavesdropping. She was excited hearing Ashley accepted to sign the divorce paper."You are leaving this house right this minute you bastard."Lady Wilson dragged Ashley from her hair all through the staircase."The swamp is where you belong, not a mansion.""Let me go."Ashley cried out in pain. Lady Wilson threw her out of the gate ordering the security never to let her into the house for any reason. Justine watched Ashley from the window thrown on the tarred road crying her eyes out. He felt no pity towards her. Ashley brought this upon herself. The night was cold and dark. Cold breeze tossed Ashley back and forth, it was about raining heavily on Ashley. She had nowhere to sleep, no friends, no family to call for help. Shadows of waving leaves caused a spooky feeling on Ashley.Ashley wrapped her hands around her quivering body walking barefooted on the road like a mad woman. At this hour of the time, there wasn't any taxi spotted to drop her off at the free shelter home for the homeless like herself. An incoming headlight shined into Ashley's eyes. The vehicle drove past her splashing water all over her body. She did not bother, her mind was prepared for the worst scenario.Unknowingly, the car reversed back to Ashley parking by her side. Ashley looked up at him, She was quivering to death. The stranger brought out a picture, the girl he was looking at shared a striking resemblance with the girl in the picture. Ashley couldn't hear the next word she passed out.*****"Doc, will she be alright?"A deep voice questioned looking at the worn out lady on the sick bed."Yes. It might take some time for her to wake up." The doctor responded."How much time doc?"The individual sounded impatient."Not long."The doctor briefly. He looked at Ashley as though he was hiding a thing or two about her health. His throat bubbled up and down."I must leave now, call me in case of any emergency.""Will there be any emergency doc?"The man stood head to head with the doctor with an icy blue eye."I'm… I'm just saying just in case. In the meantime there is nothing to worry about.""I hope so doc. We pay you really good money. Nothing must happen to our mistress."There was a warning of danger in his voice. One mistake and he wouldn't hesitate to kill the doctor. The doctor shook his head positively assuring things will not go wrong. This mysterious family isn't one to mess up with. No one touches the tail of the lion and lives to tell the story.Down the stairs there was a commotion. Buzzing voices with no one saying a clear word to the understanding of others."Silence."The oldest man in the room out everyone in order."Grandfather, how certain are you that she is your granddaughter?"Alex the eldest grandchild spoke first. He had been so worked up hearing there was another grandchild who had been missing for twenty years. Alex sent out spies to find her first. Unluckily grandfather found her sooner"Her blood has been taken for a DNA test and it will be out soon. Do not worry yourself.""Grandfather I know you still mourn the death of your son and his family in that fatal accident but grandfather it's not possible for a child to survive please do not be fooled."Cassandra spoke next. She was the family beauty diva. Always conscious of her appearance."Grandfather, I don't mind having another cousin; she might be nice to me." The family's last born Lilah spoke with a beaming smile. Others have been so hostile to her. She hoped Ashley would be different from others."Let the DNA speak first, only then will I pass my judgment.""Grandfather, your right hand man might be playing tricks on you to get your money."Alex spoke again banging the table. Grandfather could Sense his aura of insecurity. Alex doesn't like competition. He wants to be on top of the family business alone."I called you here to inform you all of her arrival and not to ask about your opinions. You all are dismissed."Alex was the first to leave followed by Cassandra. Lilah pecked her grandfather before leaving for her sports car parked outside. She said no word to the others. It was pointless."We need to eliminate her first." Cassandra suggested."Don't tell me what to do. Get the DNA results."Cassandra left him. Alex was a man of superiority. He doesn't like being told what to do. Alex went into his room in the multi billion manor.Ashley twirled on her chair as she went through a recovering patient’s file. She was pleased with herself at how fast the patient was recovering from surgery. It was one of the things she loved about herself, the fact that each and everyone of her patients always recovered healthily. She was distracted at the sudden intrusion caused by Chase as he stood in front of her, two cups of coffee in hand and a broad smile across his face.“Scalding expresso for the lady and creamy with ice for me,” he said, placing Ashley’s coffee on the table for her.Ashley made a face of disgust as Chase revealed he was drinking cold coffee!“Surely there should be some sort of punishment for drinking something as awful as that,” she retorted, taking her hot coffee and having a sip.Ashley hummed in satisfaction as it tasted exactly how she liked her coffee.“You’re welcome,” Chase said smugly with a smirk on his face.“Okay? What are you still doing here?” Ashley questioned.“Having a conversation with a
Ashley had woken up earlier than usual but she couldn’t bring herself to get up from the bed as she stared at the ceiling in her room. She was tired and lacking sleep but somehow, sleep wouldn’t come. Each day Ashley woke up in her grand room, she couldn’t always believe it.Sometimes it felt like she was in a dream and soon everything would end but when she gets up and begins to get ready for work, she realizes it’s all real.Ashley sighed deeply as she closed her eyes.In all this, she wished she could remember her parents. Her grandfather had offered to show her a family album which had pictures of her parents but Ashely wasn’t sure if she was ready to see them yet.Knowing that they had died in a horrible way always made her cry.“Not today Ashley. You have patients to attend to,” Ashley said aloud to herself as she blinked away the tears in her eyes.As always, after she was done getting ready and having breakfast alone at the dining area, Ashley went to her grandfather to see hi
If there was anything Alex considered himself to be, it wasn’t being a dumbass like his sister Cassandra. He kept staring at the numerous reports that’s been filed against her annoymously. Most of which were about verbal abuse. If a thing like this ever got to get out from the hospital to the ears of their grandfather or even the press, their grandfather wouldn’t think twice in kicking her out of the will. Why couldn’t she understand that? She was lucky he was the one handling this report and not Ashley. “Please be quick Alex. I don’t have all day,” Cassandra said shabbily as she walked into his ofifce. He tried his best not to lose his cool as he threw the numerous files of complaint at her.“Here. Read them,” he gritted out.“What’s this?” Cassandra asked, looking through them.“They’ve been numerous complain about you Cassandra. What the hell is your problem? It’s like you’re working overtime to make sure that Ashley girl gets everything. Is that what you want?” He growled out at
Immediately the young nurse left Ashley's office, Cassandra, who was standing right outside the office pulled her into a corner“Have you given them to her to sign?” Cassandra asked the nurse. The nurse nodded and handed the files over to her. “Yes”.Cassandra smirked as she took the file, walking back to her office.Meanwhile Ashley was preparing to get into surgery. She was done reading the file of the patient and all that was left was for her partner doctor chose to show up.“Why isn’t he here yet?” She asked one of the nurses who shrugged her shoulders.“I need someone to go get Doctor Chase,” she said to the nurse.“What sort of doctor doesn’t know the time of his surgery?” She breathed out disgusted that chase wasn’t putting a patient first.Just then Chase walked into the theatre.“I’m sorry. Can we begin?” He asked.Ashley looked him over in a disgusted manner. “Did you read the file of the patient? Are you even ready for this surgery?” She scolded, not caring about the other
Mr Manchester was still in his sick bed that morning, and a doctor had come to give him some medications and examined his health Incase of any dangers or improvements. Alexander and Cassandra arrived in his bedroom after a few minutes, they met the doctor attending to him. Alex was the first to take his seat before Cassandra did. From the looks on the doctor's face, Mr Manchester seemed to have been improving in his health. “Grandpa, how do you feel?” Alexander asked, although he wasn't expecting Mr Manchester to respond because of how weak he looked but the old man did reply to him.“Alex, child. I'm fine..” he said, Cassandra moved closer to him and held his hands tight. She put on a sympathetic look on her face and said. “Grandpa, please recover soon. We miss you at the company” she said to him.Mr Manchester smiled a bit. “The hospital and our company have been left in your hands. I expect you all to join forces together and work on it” he said.It wasn't what Cassandra was aimi
It was yet another morning and when Ashley woke up, she realized that she had slept in Mr Manchester's bedroom. Later during the previous night, she had returned to check on his health and Ashley decided to stay with him for a while. She didn't expect to fall asleep while sitting near him.Ashley stood up and left the bedroom quietly. Hector had always complained that Mr Manchester barely slept at night. But she noticed that he didn't even wake up while he was asleep.Did his keeping of late night have to do with him being alone in the bedroom? Maybe he wanted someone to stay with him in bed, that was why he never slept. And when she decided to stay with him, he successfully fell asleep until that moment.Ashley returned back to her bedroom, she stretched her back on her way there. She had slept in a wrong position overnight and it affected her badly. Ashley reached her bedroom, and just as she placed her hand on the knob in order to open the door, she heard someone call out her name.
