Chapter 2: Beautiful Mommy

Five years later

Centriona National Airport

Rui Yoon was holding a baby with one arm and dragging a big suitcase with her other hand. She did not look haggard or tired at all. Rather, she looked beautiful and elegant with both a baby and a suitcase keeping her occupied. The baby in her arms encircled his small arms on her neck and buried his face on her shoulder. 

Even though people can't see the baby's face, they can infer that the baby is just as beautiful as his beautiful Mom who was carrying him. He was wearing a frog onesie and a cartoon-decorated mask. His eyes were tightly shut and one can see that his long eyelashes were slightly trembling. 

“Mommy, where is Uncle Carter?” the little boy asked.

She leaned her head on her baby and answered, “Uncle just called for a taxi. Don't worry, your bunny is with him.” 

“Rui!”

She heard Carter calling for them while walking in their direction. She stopped and waited for Carter to reach them. She comforted her baby who was now feeling anxious because of the massive amount of people looking at them.

When Carter saw Rui coaxing the baby boy, he hurriedly jogged and took the baby in his arms. “Uncle is here. I just called for a taxi.”

While the two adults were calming the baby, the people at the airport took photos of the three good-looking people and posted them online. 

“What a pretty family of three,” one passerby commented. 

“Yeah, the father is so good-looking. I'm guessing he's a foreigner and the mother is a local. They must be here for a visit.”

Rui and Carter, who have sharp senses, heard the gossip around them. They quickly concealed the baby's face with a hat and a face mask to protect the baby from the people taking pictures of them. They became instant celebrities just because of their looks. 

Though Carter looks calm, when he heard the comments about them being a good match, he felt happy. He has been with Rui from the moment she knew of her pregnancy up until today. He treated Rui's son as his. And his feelings for Rui were real. But he knows he has to hold back. Rui is only focused on her son and her research.

Now that they are here to be guest instructors for a couple of months, he was planning to win her heart now that they are slightly idle.

Dixon City

Eno Tower

“President, we found movements on the Yoon family mansion. It has been empty for a long time but recently people are cleaning the mansion.”

Chase Eno, who was busy reading documents in his hands, stopped when he heard the news. “Is that the only news you got? It's been years and we still haven't found her?!”

The assistant felt shivers on his spine because of Chase's cold voice. He gulped and responded, “President, her movements were well hidden. Even the best private investigator that we found can't find her. And also the hacker we hired abroad can't retrieve the CCTV footage from the hotel. It's like she vanished out of thin air…”

Chase only gave him a side glance. “Get someone to clean the house in East City.”

His assistant felt that a thorn was plucked out of him and responded, “Right away, President Eno!”

The Yoon family mansion is located at the edge of East City and is two hours away from Eno Tower. The Yoon family's property stretched until the edge of Dixon city. But it was not utilized for residential or commercial purposes. The family just planted trees on their property and loyal workers stayed to take care of them even though the de facto head of the family was away. 

The butler of the family stayed and managed the household on behalf of Rui. 

So now that he is purchasing items for more people is suspicious. He even purchased a set of nightwear for a male. It's not even his size!

Chase picked up his car keys so he could go home to the house he bought near her mansion. Though it's about 15 minutes drive from his mansion to hers, it's the nearest house around. 

Because of the trees that are encircling the mansion, there are no neighbors around. It's the part of the city that will make you feel like you're in the countryside. People are also afraid of getting near Rui's place because there were rumors that the mansion was filled with ghosts and whatnot. 

But Chase thought it was advantageous for him since there won't be neighbors who will disturb them. 

When he reached the underground parking, he heard his employees gossiping.  

“I saw the viral photo! The family looks so good. Especially the way the husband held the baby for her! Ack!” The employee was shocked when Chase snatched the phone from her hand to take a closer look at the photo. 

'The back of the woman looks so familiar… The man is not special.'

He zoomed in on the photo and can't seem to point out who this woman is. She's familiar. He knows her for sure. But whoever that woman is is not important. What's important is that Rui is back. 

He gave the phone back to his employees and coldly said, “Remember not to gossip within the office premises.”

The butler of the Yoon family welcomed Rui with a warm smile. “Miss, Young master, Mr. Anderson.”

Rui hugged the butler and gave him a sincere smile, “Thank you Uncle Jun for taking care of the mansion.”

Butler Jun just patted Rui's head and responded, “It's my duty, Miss.”

Carter politely shook the butler's hand. “Please take care of me, Uncle.”

The butler responded with a nod while wiping his tears that he did notice earlier. “I have prepared the rooms as instructed, Miss.”

Rui patted her son's head and asked, “Eon, what will you say?”

The silent kid who was clinging tightly to his mother gently introduced himself. “Hello, I'm Eon Yoon. I just turned three.”

The butler and the maids around felt like their hearts would melt when they heard the voice of the handsome expressionless kid. 

Rui looked around the mansion that she grew up in. 

Butler Jun maintained the glorious appearance of the mansion. 

Although it's old, it's full of history. Even the white grand piano that was the centerpiece of the living room is still there. 

She noticed that her son was staring at the piano. “Go on, Eon. Show them the recent piece you learned.”

Carter bent down to carry Eon and sat in front of the grand piano. Eon, who was sitting on the lap of Carter, gently tapped the well-preserved ivory keys with his tiny fingers. 

The little boy began to play Mozart's “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.” Although it was slow because of his small fingers, he still made a piece of beautiful music that resonated in the massive mansion. 

The workers around them watched the boy in awe. They all thought one thing, 'Young Master Eon is a genius!'

After playing for two minutes, Eon let go of the keys and snuggled in his Uncle Carter's arms. “Uncle I'm tired,” he whispered. 

Carter stood up with Eon still in his arms. “Rui, I'll prepare him for bed.”

Rui shook her head and smiled at Carter. “Thank you, Carter, I'll take it from here. You should also rest.”

She took Eon away from Carter. Her son has always been shy in front of other people so the fact that Eon played a song in front of the workers is considered an accomplishment already. She was extremely thankful to Carter for being patient with her son. 

When Rui tucked Eon on their bed, she heard him ask a question that made her speechless. “Mom, you never answer my questions when I ask about Dad. Is it because I simply don't have one? Then how did you manage to conceive me?” 

Though her son looks mature, he is still a kid who longs for his father.

It's just that, Rui doesn't know how to explain why he simply has no father because he didn't want the child to feel that he is unwanted. She also doesn't want to lie to her son. So she had no choice but to always divert his attention into something else.

“Why did you come up with such a question?”

The little boy hugged his bunny plush. “I read in the bible that Mama Mary was able to conceive because of the Holy Spirit. You're not Mama Mary though?”

When the kid referenced the Bible, her face paled from disbelief. 

What kind of kid associates his mother with divinity?!

“Your Dad is dead. Now go to sleep!”
