"Please" she begged, her voice raspy, a hand clutched to her bleeding neck, eyes staring wildly at the man who seemed immune to her pleas, "please don't take her" she sobbed, falling to her knees, her cloak billowing in the background. The man stared down at her, his eyes a piercing black and a scowl on his handsome face.
"You betrayed me" he hissed "you are no mate of mine. This child" he indicated the small toddler girl he held in his arms, completely unconscious from the tranquiliser dart he'd shot at her "should have been mine" he growled and she flinched, her head lowered in shame.
"I had no choice" she protested, her knees buckling as she fell to the ground "I could not refuse him."
"I felt it all" he growled "you could have said no, but you couldn't help yourself, could you, you whore' he spat "one night at his place and you go running back into his arms."
The woman said nothing, knowing in the end her words would mean nothing to her mate, for she had in fact betrayed him, she could not deny it.
"I love you" she rasped and the man was unmoved, a tic in his jaw, impatience sketched on his face. When would the wolfsbane finally kill her? It was taking far too long to enter her bloodstream, the wound he'd inflicted as he'd stabbed her in the neck with a silver dagger bleeding profusely and yet she clung stubbornly to life.
"You never loved me" he bit out, his voice sounding low and bitter, full of hurt and anger.
"This child will be raised by me" he whispered and she held out a hand, beseeching him, her face completely ashen in the darkness of the night.
"You cannot have her" she breathed "she is his and he will not forgive you" she whispered. "You should have accepted the rejection when I gave it" she cried out, the wind picking up and making it harder to hear her.
"You should never have rejected me" he growled. "Now you're paying the price."
Finally to his relief, she gave a gurgle and he saw her topple to the hard forest floor, her head hitting the ground and her body splayed with her face downwards. Blood pooled around her body. He glanced down at her in disgust and was repulsed. How he'd ever been in love with her, he didn't know and he felt nothing but gladness to find she was finally dead at his feet, where she belonged.
The child in his arms gave a small sigh in her sleep and he cradled her carefully. She was a beautiful child, he readily admitted, with long golden locks and the bluest eyes he'd ever seen. She was incredibly fast, even in her young age and he knew it was because of her father and his heritage. She looked like an innocent little cherub and he quietly wrapped her up in his cloak, keeping her warm as the wind picked up and the night grew chilly. He stroked her porcelain like cheek. She was his ticket to taking over the entire kingdom in the future and she didn't even know it yet. His son Roland still awaited his return, thankfully no son of the whore who'd betrayed him, a child that had been gifted to him by his first mate who'd long since perished. How fortunate he had a son who would require a bride one day. He smirked down at the child, the little girl sound asleep as he began to slowly walk back towards his car, his men following silently behind him.
He placed her tenderly in the passenger seat, getting into the driver's seat and making sure to buckle her in securely. He couldn't afford to have any accidents or something happen to her. Not when she would be so useful to him, if not now, then in the future. He smiled. It would be a long time until he could use her but he would be patient, ensure his son would have the future he'd been plotting since he could remember. Serenity he thought to himself, that was the young girl's name from memory and it suited her just fine. He saw no need to change it and further distress the girl. He wondered if she would remember anything when she woke up, starting the car and very slowly pulling out. It was several days travel to get back to his pack, the Blue Fire Pack and he would need to keep the child under sedation the entire time. They needed to make a move though, because any time now, the man whose daughter he now had would come looking for her and his wife.
He began to speed up. It would be daylight soon and he wanted to make as much headway as possible, his men following behind in their own cars as he glanced in the rearview mirror, satisfied that all was well. He glanced down at the child whose soft snores were filling the car and gave a shake of his head. How different her life would be once she woke up, everything she'd known and the life she'd led before would now be stripped from her completely and she would never fully know what happened to her on this fateful night, her memory hazy from the drugs. Her new life he thought with a grin, was just beginning.
She was hazy but not completely out of it the entire trip, her eyes glaring with utter hatred at the man who seemed amused by the small child."Where's mummy" she asked and he looked away, his jaw tightening as he watched the scenery passing by, as they drove."Mummy's gone" he told her firmly as she seemed to awaken even more, her big blue eyes staring at him and making him distinctly uncomfortable. Why was the sedative wearing off? Should he give her more? No, he decided, he didn't fully know what side effects there was and to give her too much could be fatal. He sighed. At least the girl was showing some common sense for a toddler and not trying to escape the car."I want mummy" she shrieked and he winced, the words piercing his ears and drowning out the background noises in the distance."I told you mummy is gone" he growled and she flinched, trying to push herself into as small a ball as she pos
Serenity was quiet but quick as she got herself ready in the morning, glancing out the window in desperation, her hands pressed against the glass in pure jealousy. From here she had a perfect view of the grounds, the forest edge and of the pack members going about their business. She could see the pack member's children being walked to school and she felt envious. What she wouldn't give to be able to join them, to join them in their games, to learn as they were, to be able to play with them. She fairly itched to go downstairs and outside but she knew the consequences if she tried. For she'd tried once before. Last year, she'd gotten tired of being lonely, of being holed up in the attic, day by day, either by her lonesome or with Andrea, an omega tasked with looking after her, for company. She wanted to run around and play, be with children her own age and in a fit of defiance she had snuck out, making it all the way downstairs without anyone the wiser. She close
She heard his footsteps as her heart began to race, knowing instinctively that it wasn't Andrea. No they were far too heavy and large to be hers. She moved into the shadows, knowing that wouldn't do any good but needing the protective feeling it gave her.As usual there was a smarmy grin on his face as he sauntered towards her, his teeth gleaming a bright white in the darkness. She eyed him warily. Most girls, she suspected, would believe Roland to be a handsome man but to her he was repugnant. His black hair was nice enough but his skin was dark and tanned, a small scar on his cheek, his eyes a dark brown that seemed to pierce right through you. He was tall, easily overtowering Serenity who seemed like a fragile porcelain doll in comparison, her skin so white it was almost transparent from her time spent locked away in the attic. His eyes gleamed with satisfaction as he raked his gaze over her, his eyes darkening with lust as she shuddered in repulsion.&n
That night Serenity awaited his appearance like every other night, making sure her room was neat and tidy and that she was presentable. Just like clockwork, Alpha Damon came climbing up the ladder and motioned for her to come down, the rest of the pack members besides patrol were sleeping. She climbed down and was surprised when instead of heading outside like the usual routine he halted her and led her to the kitchen."Have I done something wrong?" she asked confused but he shook his head, putting a hand to his lips."We have an important meeting just before your birthday and not enough servants to clean the pack house. Every night for a few hours, instead of going outside you will help the omegas to clean instead" he told her "I've increased the guards outside so don't even think about trying to run for it and if you tell anybody that you've been locked away in the attic you'll be severely punished and it will be far worse than any of the other's y
"Father, I must speak to you" Roland said, entering his father's private domain, his study, without even bothering to knock.Damon rolled his eyes. His child was a right pain in the ass sometimes and lately it was getting to be on his nerves."What is it?" he asked exasperated. He really didn't have time for this right now. Not when he was busy organising for this important meeting in a few weeks as well as his regular pack business."It's about Serenity" he pouted "why can't I just have her already? What difference does it make if we are married or not? You know I never wanted to get married in the first place" he added and Damon gave a loud groan of dismay."Do we really have to go through this again Roland! You know exactly who she is, heck she bears the birthmark which is all we need to prove it! Once your married we take her back home and everything she owns, everything she was to inherit will be yours" he said in frustration "is that not worth
Serenity was cleaning with Lauren once again, mystified as to why they were putting in so much effort when the so called meeting was weeks away!"It seems a little silly to me" she said in a low voice and Lauren gave a small chuckle."This is just a normal part of the cleaning, wait until it's a few days before and then you'll see just how much more we'll be required to do" she chortled shaking her head as Serenity sighed. The truth was, Serenity didn't mind in the slightest about doing the chores. It meant she got to spend time with Lauren each night and the girls had formed a close bond, although Serenity didn't dare tell Lauren that she lived in the attic. To do so would mean punishment, not just for her, but for poor Lauren as well who was proving to be a really good friend to her. Serenity would never put her in danger, not to help herself or for her own sake."What is this meeting for anyway" Serenity queried in
Serenity was still in a daze. She knew in her heart instinctively that she was the missing werewolf princess and she didn't know what to do. She couldn't exactly tell Lauren without putting her in danger and she knew that Roland and his father were already aware of it. Her only hope was to escape or to barge in on the meeting, both of which were unlikely.Serenity stared at the window, it was two stories up and if she jumped she could die or break a leg from the fall. As an escape option it wasn't feasible. She was also still locked in every single night and there was nothing in which she could use to break the door or lock. Not anything of use but she still had to search more of the attic. They'd been careful when they situated her in here though, the room was bare and minimal, as though they didn't want her having too many items in case she tried escaping. She shuddered, remembering the other attempts she'd made and the failures.
He was growing tired, bored of his predicament. Every single pack was the same, nobody had any news of this so called missing Princess and they were all rather annoying, even going so far as to provide him with omega's for his sexual needs. Not that he ever took them up on it, it disgusted him no end to be given someone against their will and those that made the mistake of giving it, found themselves in the dungeon while he dismantled their pack. He'd always believed omegas were an important part of a pack, they helped keep it running and as such deserved to be treated with respect and kindness. His adoptive father, King Lucas had left him to do this tour by himself and even he'd instructed the officials and delegation back to the castle, Liam assuring him he was able to do this on his own. At least then he could be in and out.He only had one more pack to visit thank god and then he could go back home, away from these annoying Alpha's
Serenity slept peacefully, a smile on her face as she dreamt about the ball and the excitement of finding a second chance mate. Never in a million years would she have thought it would be a vampire let alone a vampire king! When she woke up she felt excitement coursing through her veins. It was her eighteenth birthday and by rights she would be getting her wolf tonight, if everything went to plan. She wondered what it would look like, her eyes twinkling as she hurriedly dressed and went downstairs to the dining room, where she was surprised to see was King Lucien and her father, Lucas, chatting to each other in low voices."Good morning" she sang out feeling a little awkward as Lucien stood up and gave her a wide smile, her father getting up and giving her a little peck on the cheek."Good morning my dear" her father greeted her, sitting back down and motioning for Serenity to do the same as servants hurriedly served up he
Her father continued to laugh heartily, tears flowing down his eyes as Serenity stared at him. What on earth was so funny? Even Lucien, a vampire King looked astounded as her father doubled over, chortling, his shoulders heaving. What on earth was going on."Father" said Serenity rather nervously and looking concerned "are you feeling alright? Perhaps you should lie down" she suggested and her father made a choking noise. Serenity gave Lucien a helpless look."King Lucas do you require any assistance" drawled the vampire and her father finally straightend up, wiping the tears from his eyes, a wide grin on his handsome face."Oh this is priceless" he gasped, looking between the both of them as they stared in bewilderment."Lucien here" he indicated the Vampire King who merely raised an eyebrow "was determined to remain a bachelor. You told me you would never find your mate" he gasped "and now you have it's none other than my daughte
He'd been outside, completely bored out of his skull at the masquerade ball. King Lucas had put on an impressive ball, he had no doubt about that, but this wasn't exactly his scene. But when the vampire King had received an invitation from an old friend, he hadn't had the heart to refuse. Then he'd been approached by a vision, a stunning angel in a white dress and wings, almost floating towards him and he'd become speechless, her scent overpowering him, lavender and the merest hint of roses drifting towards him, his eyes glowing between red and his normal green colour. His body stood of it's own accord, his mouth feeling dry as she stopped just in front of him. He'd complimented her and told her she was beautiful, god those eyes of hers were like deep blue pools and that hair, a beautiful golden colour that gleamed in the moonlight. He'd never seen such a beautiful creature, telling instantly that she was a shifter, not that that
It's the night of the ball and Serenity is excited, standing in front of the mirror and twirling in order to see the full effect of her outfit. Her dress is stunning, pure white with sequins, a sweetheart bodice and it's length stopped at her knees. Small feathered white wings portruded from the back of the dress, held up by some sort of miracle. Her blonde hair was wavy and left loose down her back and she had flats on her feet, something she had insisted on as she wasn't used to walking in high heels."You look beautiful" a voice said quietly and she turned to give her father a smile, her own breath hitching as she looked at him in his beautiful black tuxedo suit."You scrub up nicely yourself" she teased and he chuckled shaking his head."You look just like your mother" he said sadly and she felt a moment of grief, before resolutely shaking it off. It was her eighteenth birthday tomorrow and she was going to enjoy every minute
Liam couldn't believe that Serenity had rejected him and it still stung days later."Liam" snapped Christina and he looked over at her, as though seeing her for the first time and wondering what he'd seen in her to begin with. She was nothing like Serenity. Where Serenity was kind, gentle and loving, Christina came across as cold, abrupt and sometimes he wondered if she even loved him with the attitude and behaviour she currently kept giving him."Yes Christina" he said tiredly wondering what on earth she wanted now."Did you not hear me" she snapped snootily "we need to start getting a nursery together. I don't care what King Lucas says, the baby comes first" she glowered and Liam sighed. He was on tenterhooks with his adoptive father at the moment, knowing King Lucas was incredibly angry with him."We still have time" he pointed out and then flinched as she cast him a cold, glowering look that spoke volumes about how she felt abo
Christina was also nonplussed and wondering why Serenity wasn't angry. Heck knows she would be if she was in Serenity's position. She quietly took hold of Liam's hand, Serenity seeing it but still saying nothing, raising her eyebrows as she took her seat next to her father."So father" Serenity said, deliberately turning towards Lucas and ignoring the other two at the table. "When should we start preparing for the ball" she asked sweetly and he gave her a beaming smile, taking a quick sip of his soup, a thoughtful expression on his face."I'm ready to begin maybe tomorrow? It gives you time to think about all the things you require sweetheart" he said gruffly "whether it's decorations, your dress, anything and everything" he exhaled and glared at Christina and Liam who looked decidedly nervous, Christina biting her lip."The only thing I really want is to invite Lauren" Serenity told him, feeling excited at the prospect "she was s
Serenity had to leave. She couldn't bear to see her supposed mate with another woman, one he'd apparently been close to. So much for being in love thought Serenity bitterly, the moon goddess had clearly made a mistake this time. She felt so embarrassed. At least she'd had the sense not to do anything with Liam that she couldn't take back but still he'd misled her big time and it was another lesson that she couldn't trust anyone."Serenity" her father growled softly from the doorway of the room she'd ducked into "I am so sorry" he apologised "I didn't know that Liam had been seeing someone. I definitely did not want you to walk into something like that child.""It's not your fault" Serenity said quietly, turning to him, her big blue eyes shiny with unshed tears "Liam never once mentioned another woman. I should have asked" she said sadly "I just didn't think to.""No Serenity" her father exclaimed, embracing her in a hug as she tucked her head
They stopped, Liam letting Serenity off his back as she took in the castle with awe, both men shifting as she blushed, turning her back on their nakedness."Highness" someone said from nearby and Serenity was tapped on the shoulder, turning around to see they were surrounded by patrol warriors and that Liam and her father, thankfully, were now wearing clothes that had obviously been passed to them."Welcome back" one said and her father thanked them, gesturing for Serenity to follow him, Liam behind them as they walked to the entrance of the castle."Serenity" her father was saying "let's get you a room organised and then show you around. Would you like that?" he asked and her face lit up as she gave him a beaming smile."That would be lovely" she said eagerly, admiring the scenery as they walked inside, a large staircase in the front entry way, presumabley leading up to the guest rooms and the King's own private room
The next morning Serenity was up bright and early, excited to go back to the castle with Liam and King Lucas. She still had trouble thinking of the man as her father but supposed she would get used to it eventually. They stood at the edge of the forest, all three of them, the rest of the congregation staying back to dismantle the pack, Serenity having already wished poor Lauren a farewell the night before."You may want to turn your back" Liam said wryly "unless you want to see me naked of course, I don't mind but I don't think you're quite ready for that" he added and she nodded timidly. She knew he was hurt at her wanting to take this slow but Serenity wanted to get a feel for him first, not rush into things. She wouldn't be pressured into doing something she didn't want. She needed him to respect that after everything they had gone through."I'll turn around" she said hastily. To be fair she didn't really want to see her father naked either
