Patrice POV
"Grandpa?"
I couldn't believe my eyes! The room was a bit dark but I could see the silhouette with the help of light flooding from outside the door.
There leaning on the wall was a life-size portrait of my Grandpa. What is that doing there? It seemed unfinish yet as there were several brushes and paint that litter around. Is my husband trying to paint my Grandpa?
I tried to look for a light switch using my phone's flashlight. When I finally found one and turned it on, bright light flooded the room.
I could say Resh did a great job in renovating the stables to be his home. It was simple but neat. Some of the old furniture from the mansion were here but they look better and cared for in here. There was even a fireplace with an animal hide near it for a carpet. It felt cozy and warm. It was just one room with kitchen on one side, a foldable couch on one corner that may serve as his bed probably. Above the fireplace were some books. Forex,
Chapter 13 Awkward MomentResh’s POVI woke up sweating profusely. I found it hard to breath earlier but I guess it was all part of the dream as I was breathing normally although a bit fast now. It is that nightmare of drowning again. Although it is clear to me that my nightmares were not mere dreams but had happened in reality, it still had come to bug me. The light was dimmed but I could make out a figure in the sofa. Patrice? What was she doing in here? She wasn’t moving so I presumed she was sleep. I tried to get up to put a blanket on her forgetting that my arm had an IV line connected to it. Somehow, the noise of the commotion I made woke her up.“What are you doing?” She got up and walked towards me blinking her eyes sleepily.I felt ashamed to tell her I was going to put a blanket on her. “I was on my way to the washroom. I need to pee,” I
Author's POV CLANK CLANK CLANK ... The noise of pots and pans falling made my spirit jump. I was feeling so sleepy after finishing the thirteenth chapter just a few hours ago. My brains refused to think further. It had been three days that I have continuously worked on my novel everytime. I would finish all the house work. Still yawning and stretching my arm, I opened the door to check what the commotion was about. Spat! An egg suddenly hit me on my forhead. "Bull's Eye! " "Dang, why 'd you do that? " I stared angrily at my mother-in-law, who obviously was making all the noise in the kitchen which happened to be just outside my room. I reached for a towel nearby and wiped off my face. "What time is it Resh? Are you trying to make people here fast?" She returned my glare with a more fierce look. "I'm sorry Madam. " I bowed my head unable to hide another yawn. I reached out for the frying pan a
Clear the table. Wash dishes. Wash clothes. Dust off. Cook meals. I have a lot of use in this house and yet they call me good for nothing... Tsk..Tsk...What if I go to some distant place and enjoy a vacation? These folks will surely miss me. It's ten in the morning when all house work got done. I logged in to my account and WHOA!!! How the heck did I get $10,000,000 in my account? Did I read the zeros right? 7 zeros... That makes it 10 Million dollars right? "WebToon Office, Goodmorn..." A guy sounded on the other end of the line. "Cut the crap Borj. You know it's me. Heey, I just got a freaking ten million dollars in my account. Did accounting office just made a mistake sending my fee? They keyed in too much zeros I guess..." "Hahahaha.. My friend, come to the office and I will explain,"...Tooot.. Line went dead. I could imagine my friend smirking as he ended the call. What, how, why...My mind was really boggled..I too
Chapter 16 Ten Million Dollars As I was taking my seat, Borj stood up to lock the door. We don’t want the surprise look of our staff when they open the door and find me seated in the manager’s chair. “Want some coffee first?”, Borj offered. “Let’s get down to business first. What is ten million dollars doing in my account?” “Why do I sense you are annoyed? Shouldn’t you be happy you have more money?” The mocking face. He looks playful today. What could be up on his sleeve? “You need coffee. Just one moment. I can get my secretary to do that for us.” He stood up and press some numbers on the intercom. “Sweety, get us two coffee in here, one dark and strong and one latte.” I promptly stood up from the manager’s chair and I was standing by the window curtains already when we heard a knock at the door. Borj stood up to open the door and let his secretary in. “Thank you my dear” he said and locked the door aga
“Borj!” Now I was really looking at him with piercing eyes wanting to rip him apart.“Young master, please. Let me explain,” Clyde pleaded.“Let us go to your car and talk.” I motioned with my eyes for Clyde to follow me “As for you Borj, I’m not done yet!”Of all things I hated, is getting in touch or connected with my family. Clyde is my grandfather’s personal assistant and driver. He has served in the family from since he turned adolescent with his father and mother serving in the old mansion of my grandfather as well. It would seem as if they had been our slaves with the years of service they gave. However, don't think of it in a bad way. Their family had been treated like a family from time in memorial. Their loyalty can be counted upon by my grandfather. My maternal grandfather, Mr. Amory Donovan as you may be wondering, is the top notch business tycoon in the country. COUNTRY, yes. Not cit
Being in a rich family doesn't mean being always happy. I've learned that at a young age from my father. He had to be away often for overseas trip and when he was in city, he still can't spend enough time for himself and his family. He and my mother were university sweethearts. Because he didn't come from a well-to-do family, he had to work his ass off to prove he was worthy to be part of the Donovan Family. And just when you are doing well and on your way to the top, people start to get envious and drag you down. The worse thing is that it will be people of your blood or circle who will do the most unimaginable things to bring you down.So I had refused every help from the Donovan family. The grand patriarch of the McLain finally discovered my lineage but I made him vow to keep it a secret. In exchange for his silence, he made me marry his most beloved granddaughter, Bridda. He wanted to secure her future no matter what happens to his perfume company. He knows too well
Resh!I heard my name called out twice. First it was Bridda. Followed by Aaron, her cousin.I turned to them with the most innocent look I can master. "Yes?""Mind explaining what you were doing in that car?"I gave Bridda a foolish grin and scratched my head. "I am trying to convince BossStudio to take on the story I am writing. ""Woow! Big dreams man! You think they'd pay attention to a story from a nobody like you?" Here goes the greatest sarcasm of all times."There's no harm in trying," I responded to him looking him straight in the eyes."Damn! How dare you answer back Resh? Did I not tell you not to look straight at me? Bow your head!"I clenched my fist in my pocket trying to stop myself from throwing a punch right to his face. Bridda sensed my anger boiling and held to my hand."We just had lunch with Aaron's parents and we are on our way to attend a very important meeting in BossStudio actually. Please get us
I was back in Borj's office and he had a guilty worried look in his face. "Boss~~ ..." It sounded more like a whimper with a gay intonation. "Yes Borj, I know already. You didn't have a hand in this." "Phewww! Aint am I relieved!" He tried to wipe imaginary sweat on his forhead,"I really didn't know they were involved until Mister Clyde came today." "He gave this invitation by the way. It seems a grand masquerade ball will be held next week to announce the upcoming TV Series." Borj handed a green envelope bearing the Webtoon Office name on it. I reached out for the envelope and brought it to the couch. It held two tickets to the grand masquerade ball to be held in Grand Platinum Hotel, one of the most lavish 5 star hotel in the city. Basically, among the hotel chains of my grandfather. "It's a masquerade ball. Shall we attend then?" "You can." I told him disinterestedly.. "Why not you? Nobo
"Guards!" Mr. Em growled. Security personnel approached us and helped Mr. Em to his feet. He then looked at us with much hatred as he tried to brush off his coat. "You and you," pointing at Mr. So and me, "I will see you in the HR office!" He walked towards the elevator. "Guards, you better join us or this guys will harrass me!" So he was followed by two guards and Mr. So and me. He barged right into the HR office but before he could speak, Mr. Harvey, spoke first. "Mr. Em, what is the meaning of you contacting and sending a file to Brilliant Studio?" The stout man wanted to protested and complain but was interrupted. "Our IT staff discovered an outgoing mail addressed to our competitiors IP. Why would you be communicating with them." Mr. Em caught in his act remained silent. "If you are not planning to give an explanation, then I would have the guards to accompany you out of the building." He suddenly knelt and pleaded. "Please Sir, give me a chance to stay. Please!" H
I was tapping my fingers on the table eagerly waiting for Clyde to make his appearance at the restaurant we agreed to meet at. I chose to have an exclusive booth where no one can see us and I can easily go in and out thru the backdoor. Of course, the restaurant belonged to my grandfather's chain of business and Clyde had already informed them of my passage. Knock...knock... "Get in." "Young master." He was starting to bow and the door was still open behind him. I hurriedly looked down with my cap over my face until I heard the door clicked. "Clyde, in public places like this, make sure nobody sees you bowing to me." I reprimanded him. "I am sorry young master." "Please take a seat." I invited him to a chair across from me. "Before you arrived at the toilet, I heard those two men speaking. The stout guy mentioned about a proposal. What new project do we have?" "Hmmm. The tie up with W*****n Office Co., what else could it be? " "Hahaha" I can't hold my laughter."Seriously?" I
I met Mister So, head of housekeeping who brought me around the building. Mr. Harvey had mentioned before Mister So entered, that the housekeeping head is also a loyal servant of my grandfather. He also gathered the rest of his team and introduced me as a newly hired cleaner. "These are the cleaning supplies you will need. Are you sure you want to clean the men's toilet?" "Yes. Where do the managers go?" "Managers office are at every floor depending on which department they are. but the toilet for them are at the 5th floor." "Okay then. Thank you Mister So, I can take it from here. " I winked at him and waved him off. I took the housekeeping lift and went to the fifth floor. I was restocking the supplies at a cubicle when two men entered. One of them sounded familiar, I wonder where I have heard that voice. They were having a good laugh over something. Then there was silence as both men took a pee at the urinals and one could
That was quite a slap! Before we all had time to react, the intercom rang. I rubbed my cheeks while she went to pick up the phone. The stout guy looked at me sharply as if about to say something but the receptionist was holding on to his hand. "Reception area, good day! ....Yes.....Yes..." "HR..." She whispered looking at the man and pointing to the phone. Then she looks at me. She puts the phone down and told us,"We are to go up to HR office." "Wait, I still have something to do..."the man wanted to object but the the lady was holding on to his hand. "This better not be trouble Trisha!" Trisha. That must be the name of the receptionist. "You too mister," She said to me as she turned in my direction going on ahead with the stout guy. "Don't worry honey. I think this is our chance to work in the same office and I can work on you," she whispered the last sentence but it was still too loud for me to hear. I w
All my bags are packed. I'm ready to go... I was whistling the tune while packing my bag to go to work. Everyone in the house was still asleep so I try to be as quiet as I can. I have to leave the house early to report for my work. Clyde had volunteered to pick me up but I chose to take public transportation instead. He would need to orient me as to the heirarchy in the company as well as introduce the people I would be working with.At six sharp, I was already in the Danovan Sky Tower, a very prominent structure at the heart of the city. There weren't much people yet and reception was still empty. I went to what seem like a lounge and got a cup of coffee from a nearby dispenser. This is good that the company offers free coffee to employees and visitors alike. Clyde sent a message to my phone asking if I was already in the building, I should message him.I ignored his message and finished drinking my coffee until I noticed there was someone in the reception area.
With my height less than an inch from six feet and a muscular built and my wife at five feet three inches and pettite built, I was sure to crush into her if I were to fall over her. I tried to regain my balance in mid air and toppled over close to the table but my head still landing on Bridda's lap."The heck!" She screamed. She immediately stood up and my head hit the edge of the couch."Oucchh!" escaped from my lips. She looked at me with a raised eye brow."Oh sorry," I think I was one with most injury but I was the one apologizing."I think I've had enough for you tonight." She sighed as she packed up her laptop and marched to her room. Why do I get so clumsy with her today? It's a tiring day. Maybe I need rest and think of matters tomorrow. The next day, while everyone was eating the breakfast I prepared, I made the announcement,"Uhmm!" I cleared my throat. "I applied to Danovan Enterprise and I got the job."
I arrived home to see Bridda busy on her laptop still. She looked up, nod as I was closing the door, and went back to her laptop."Why still up?" I asked her. But I really meant to ask why she was outside her room."Why are you home just now?" She asked and stared at me for a moment while waiting for me to answer.I believed I was the first one to ask but moments like this, it is hard to argue. "Uhmm, I asked Borj opinion on some matters. ""I see... Don't worry, I was home before dinner time and ordered food delivery for everyone.""Ohh dang! I forgot....I'm sorry! I was too busy I wasn't aware of the time." Nor did I even noticed I was hungry."Have you had yours?" She asked monotonously without looking away from her screen. Woow, is she concerned about me now?"There's still some left in the fridge. You just have to heat it up." She spoke before I could even answer."Thanks," I replied walking a
So I'm here in the VIP room of Danovan Hospital, gawking at the old man on the bed who had just survived from a fatal heart attack. I think this is just a ploy of his to get me to agree to his plans. Although it's the first time, well there's always a first time to everything."Young Master," Clyde came in to the dim room and walked towards me. "You may leave now.""Thank you. Please update me when he is awake.""Have you spoken to everyone in the mansion? We are not to let anyone know of his condition.""Yes Young Master."I stood up and I was about to turn the knob of the door when I weak elderly voice called out."Resh." It was no longer commanding but making a plea."Resh."I walked to the old man and took hold of his hand."Sir, we will talk when you are feeling better. Please take a rest for now.""You are like your mother. Stubborn." He heaved a sigh and a tear rolled down the side of his left eye.I
"Young Master..." Clyde's voice trailed off as someone seem to have taken the phone from him. "Resh." It was a deep low and commanding voice. "Yes, Mister Danovan?" I asked my grandfather with all formality although I really hated talking to him. "Please come to the mansion." "Why is that?" "I have a car for you." "I don't need a car Grandpa!" I got irritated and tongue slipped. "I mean, Sir." "Clyde will be come to pick you up." Tooot..Tooot.. Conversation done...and they don't even know where I was. Do they have a GPS tracker on me? After five minutes, my phone rang. "Yes Clyde?" "Where am I to fetch you Young Master?" OK good he is asking. So no tracker on me at all. "Come by the cafe in front of Bridda's office." "I am here Young Master." Wait... What? How did that happen? So I'm really being tracked? My doubt starts to increase. I left the cafe and when outside, I looke
