Hearing Leona's name being called out as the best student, I wasn't surprised as I had expected it. What I didn't expect was her sudden fall when she got on the stage.
The college authorities called for the first aid team and she got rushed to the school's clinic.
"I guess our new Valedictorian is overexcited and must've passed out due to that." The chancellor began.
It better be the reason. She can't fall sick all of a sudden.
"Until she's awake, the ceremony will not continue." The chancellor concludes and I smile.
Yes.
That's how important Leona is. She's just too brilliant and everything about her is so so perfect. She's calm and collected.
When we first became friends, she would decline my invitation to parties and even sleepovers. She still doesn't and I respect her decision. I thought she was a bore but that was until I got to know her.
However, I decided to change her outlook since I have enough to change her wardrobe. She rejected that too.
I had to wonder if she'll ever get a boyfriend and even pitied her. Silly me.
Leona was a beauty regardless. Her long hair, smooth skin, and dimples that round her cheeks each time her lips move then there's that big heart of hers.
Meeting her has changed my life and I will never regret but bless the day I met her and we became friends.
For someone like me who knew nothing but to party and now has a first-class degree, Leona tried that much.
I wasn't smart in academics. Maybe because I was lazy and never learned. Leona kept me disciplined and responsible. Economics became my major weak point but she helped me. Gradually, my grades improved.
As I began to gain recognition from teachers for my performance, my friends who had mocked me when I first befriended Leona became jealous. If they knew what it had to take.
If I don't end up with an award today, it wouldn't make any difference. I got a good degree anyways.
I looked around. The chanting that started a while ago has long died out.
Most of the students found interest in something else since the program has been paused. While some took pictures, some conversed, laughing heartily.
I walked from where I stood with Leona before she had to go and faint to the parking lot. I stepped into my Audi and drove to the clinic. It's just a few distances from the campus.
Getting to the clinic, it was easy to locate her ward, my eyes found her siblings first then her. She still hasn't woken up.
The eldest who was between 16 and seventeen looked pissed while the 13 and the 10 years were both crying.
I got alarmed.
Did someone die? I looked over to Leona but I could see the steady rise and fall of her chest.
Thinking that they are just worried about their sister though I know how differently she's being treated by them at home, I am concerned.
I decided to get water to calm them down and while returning, I saw the chancellor. He wasn't alone. He was with Leona's parents.
What could be the problem? I got even more worried. Seeing her parents means there's more to this.
I got back to the ward and shared the water among them. I watched them open it and take a sip but not a sign of gratitude was shown.
"What's wrong? Is anything the matter?" I asked no one in particular.
"She's pregnant!" The eldest blurted.
"Are you kidding me? How can she be pregnant?" I chuckled.
" I can't understand what the results read but that's what the doctor said to your school head. I'm not deaf."
"Where are the results then?" I demanded. Her eyes darted to the foot of Leona's bed.
"There."
I followed her gaze and saw a crumpled paper on the floor.
I walked to it and picked it up, chuckling as I unfold it.
There's no way Leona will be pregnant. That girl hardly talks to boys.
I opened the test results and scanned through then dropped it suddenly as if it was something contagious.
This can't be! It's a lie. Leo can't be pregnant. She's so busy working towards her goal to be pregnant.
I ran out and called one of the nurses to run another check on her. She wouldn't agree until I promised her money.
I didn't let her get to the lap alone after taking a simple sample of her blood from her arm though it raised eyebrows.
After using the quantitative blood test to measure the exact amount of hCG in her blood, I was still not convinced.
I made her use the second method, qualitative HCG which checks if the pregnancy hormone is present in her blood or not.
The answer was yes.
I didn't allow the lab technician to print it out again. I look into my purse and draw a few dollars out.
That explains it. So this is the reason why her parents were summoned?
Glad that her siblings had left when I returned, I sat beside her, not knowing what to do next as tears spilled on my cheeks. Even after the tests, this was still hard to believe.
"Why are you crying, Rhoda?"
I heard her calm voice and raised my head.
"Are you alright?" I asked, examining her with my eyes.
"Yes, I am. Why do you ask? " She got up into a sitting position.
"I'm glad you're okay. I was just worried." I forced a smile at her.
"Was that why you were crying?"
"I guess."
She smiled. "Why am I here, Rhoda? I was supposed to be giving my speech right?"
"You passed out suddenly. Maybe because.." I couldn't finish.
"Because you got pregnant."
Someone said from the door and instantly the blood drained from her face.
I looked at the door and saw her stepmom walk in with rage and without hesitating, or giving her time to process what she just said, she slapped her on both cheeks so hard that her hand marked on her cheeks.
I flinched, closing my eyes as a sharp wince left Leona's lips.
"How dare you do this to us? You disgraceful and ungrateful daughter of a bitch! " She yelled.
Leona looked at me then at her stepmom with a confused and clueless face.
She got up from the bed and straightened her dress slowly.
"What's wrong mom..."
"Don't ever call me mom because you were never my daughter and you'll never be. I'll be considered bad luck if I were to give birth to you." She spat.
That was harsh.
"What's wrong, Rhoda?" She turned to me with quivering lips.
I could see how she was breathing so fast which meant that her heart was pounding.
"I...I .." I tried to say but the chancellor entered and intruded.
"The two of you are needed outside." He said and went back.
"Mom, I swear I didn't do anything.." Leona tried to explain but the witch raised her hands again to slap her. I refuse to let it happen.
I held her hand before it could reach her. "Hit her again and I will hand you to the cops for abusing a pregnant woman," I warned through gritted teeth.
Leona's stepmom yanked her hand from my grip and with a loud his and a look of contempt at both of us, she left.
"That wasn't necessary." She scolded.
"I can't watch her hit you again. If I had an idea of the first one, I would have stopped it on time."
" Thanks but she is reacting this way because of the false news she must have heard." Leona defended her to my annoyance.
"She's always like this, Leona."
"Leave her. I am interested to know what she's talking about."
"Have you had any sex?"
"What! No! "
"Then why are you pregnant? The test is showing that you're two weeks gone."
"What?" She exclaimed again.
"Tell me the truth, Leo. What really happened? Did you get a boyfriend and forgot to tell me?"
I doubt that but I need to ask.
"Stop this, Rhoda! I never had a boyfriend and I never had sex. In fact, I am a VIRGIN!" She screamed the words with conviction. "I am still a virgin." She repeated, fresh tears falling to her round cheeks.
I want to believe her but I had gone to watch the test get done. There wasn't a mistake.
______________________________ ~RHODA~"Then how's this possible! I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't done the test myself." I told her."Trust me, Rhoda, I never had sex! I didn't do anything." She wailed."I trust you completely Leo, in fact, more than myself but you know one can never get pregnant without having sex. I mean is not like Jesus is visiting the world again through you!" I reason with her."Shut up already! You're only making this worse." She chided. "I'm sure there's a mix-up somewhere other than that, how can I be pregnant?.""Alright but I think we should do a virginity test to prove that you still are.""Does that mean you don't believe what I am saying?" She sounds disappointed."Not that. I trust you. This is going to prove your innocence and th

You don't need to worry." He replied and paused for a minute." How's this possible, Leona? I know you wouldn't go and do something that will hurt our family so what happened?""I'm just as clueless, Ray. Although everything seems to be working against me now, I am certain about one thing.""Which is?" His brows raised curiously."I'm not pregnant and I'll prove it tomorrow.""Great! I'm glad there's a way. Come let's go home.""Which home?" Tasha has warned me not to go because my dad won't be happy."Our h
~LEONA~I dragged it till it reached my knees before I peeped."OMG!" There's actually blood.Oh Lord, I'm not pregnant. I just knew it."Ray..." I almost screamed but covered my mouth hastily.I got out of the washroom and shuffled through my bag and took a pad out.I went to the bathroom and had a quick bath and after that, I wore the pad happily.I once heard a group of girls discussing their fear anytime they have sex and their period delays. And when they think their period will never come but it finally appears, their happiness always knows no bounds. I didn't understand them then but now I do even though my circumstance is different from theirs. My happiness was inexplicable. I didn't plan on combing my hair but I suddenly loses it from its bondage.
~LEONA~ "Sister Leo, please help me with my assignment." Vera walked into my home office with her workbook. "I'm busy Vee. We'll do that later." I replied without taking my focus off my computer. "No no no!" She protested stubbornly. I sighed. "Okay fine. I will have a look." I took the book and looked through it. "This is simple, Vee." I looked up at the little blonde. "Here, I'll teach you." It was just simple algebra so I took some time and taught her. "Wow Leo, you teach so perfectly more than our teacher. Why didn't you become a teacher too?" She grinned at me happily. "But I'm already a teacher," I replied smilingly, looking at the youngest child among us. I love them all but I love her more. "Wow? Really? Where do you teach? And who do you teach?" She asked innocently. I chuckled. "I teach at home. Meaning, I'm your personal teach
LeonaThe security guards released me after the doctor had left and I just stood in the corridor as people stared at me strangely as if I was a new creature.Nevertheless, I waited. Waited to see the doctor again when he came out.His eyes met me when he came out of the ward he had disappeared to earlier. When he saw me, he motioned for me to follow him.Thank goodness.I followed him with hope as we entered the office."How can I help you ?" He sat down, staring at me."I'm pregnant," I stated. He raised a furrowed brow with a look that says. 'How's that my problem?'Nevertheless, he nodded for me to continue."I'm pregnant but I don't know who the father of my baby is," I added. He straightened up in the chair as if by interest but he looked bored."Were you raped? If you were raped, then you should be at the police station and not here." He said with a frown."I wasn't r
~LEONA~ "Alright, if you say so. Let's go home so that I can treat your wound." "Home? I do not have a home, Raymond." "Stop spewing nonsense and let's go." He ordered. "No Ray. Mom sent me packing." I said silently. "What? How dare she." "Let it be Raymond and don't worry about me. I'll be just fine." "Come, I'll take you somewhere else if you don't want to go back home. You'll be fine there." "Where's that?" "You'll live with me." Yeah, Raymond doesn't live with us. He always comes to visit but doesn't sleep over but I still don't know where he has been staying. I nodded. "If it won't bother you." "Are you serious?" "I just don't want to be some sort of burden." "Can you listen to yourself?" He stared at me quietly. "How can my only sister be a burden on me?" He sounds offended. "I'm sorry." Staying with him will
~DAVE~ "Drive faster, else I'll take charge and you know what that means," I commanded my driver. "I'm sorry sir but it has begun to rain and I can barely see what is in front." Oh, I never knew that it was raining. I didn't notice because of the car's tinted windows. I kept quiet and waited patiently. I checked my time over and over again, hoping that I wouldn't die while I waited. I have a deal to finalize at 4:00 pm and now it's 3:20 pm. I can't afford to lose that deal. After some time, the car stopped moving. "What's wrong?" My eyebrows shot angrily. "There's a lady lying in front of us sir." "Then pass her by." If she's lying there, then how's that my problem? Those stupid girls will never learn. They go out and drink unnecessarily. "It's a one-way road sir. I can't pass anywhere." "Then run her over. Who knows, she must be dea
LEONA Three months later... "Am sorry Miss Leona but you can't work at this bar again. You're pregnant and you really need your rest otherwise you might lose your baby." The director at the bar said. But I really want to get rid of it. I have no intentions of keeping this baby so I'll be glad if I don't give birth to it. I had gone to get an abortion the day I woke up on a hospital bed. That was three months ago. My only aim was to get rid of it but it wasn't possible. I was told that I might die if I attempt to abort it or probably won't be able to give birth again... Tragic. Dying was not an option because I still got a family who's expecting a lot from me even though I got thrown out. Giving birth wasn't an option either but it is better than risking my life. So I decided to give birth to it but give it up for adoption soon after. Besides, I didn't have
TEN MONTHS LATER... LEONAWe just arrived home and I am awed to see the entire family in the decorated living room upstanding in anticipation of our arrival.I was carrying my new baby boy in my arms while Dave carried the girl. Yes, I delivered a boy and a girl twin and it's been a month but we're now returning from the by-force vacation Dave took me a month before my delivery. Everyone couldn't wait to see us and here we are now. Petals of different colors showered on us as we walked into the living room."Aww. They're so adorable and the girl is so cute." Kim squealed and took my baby boy from me.I sat down and everyone took turns to congratulate us, me especially. My mind went back to the day I told Dave that I was pregnant in his office. It's been ten months but I can't forget that astonishing look and his priceless smile when I told him the news. I keep replaying it and anytime I do, I find myself smiling. I've never seen him that happy before...it was so ama
FOUR YEARS LATER.....Yeah.It's been four fucking years and I can't say I'm still the Leona of four years back. I'm twenty-six and I've achieved a lot.I got my masters and I even went further to have a bachelor's in architecture. I work in one of the biggest global companies here in America and aside from that, I work with Dave as his assistant in his architectural firm. Together, we built the firm to a top-notch. Anosova architectural firm is now one of the best in the world. His hard work also took his family business to an even higher level. All this occurred in four years. In four years, I became Mrs. Anosova. When we left that coffee shop, we registered, then advanced our wedding night. It was crazy but felt so right. After a year, we got married properly in a church where all the family including loved ones were present.Should I say I expected to see Lando come but he didn't? Well, I did. He told me he's my shadow so I expected him to be there. Not for that alone but because
🔥FINALE 🔥Leona Grande-AnosovaIt's been a month and right now Dave and I are sitting facing each other in a coffee shop somewhere in Seattle. From Greece, we relocated to one of Dave's mansions here in Seattle. The city is nice and full of coffee shops with really great coffees. Raymond has recovered and I won't say entirely but it's better than before and he's currently at home with Leonard. Leonard will be two years old next month and I can't wait to celebrate his second birthday. On my dad's insistence to work, Dave employed him in his company and my siblings have also returned to their preferred schools. I will remember to pay Dave back every dime he's spending on my family and me. It's a lot and I can't thank him enough. He also allowed me to get on birth control pills after I explained that I will be furthering my education. He made a joke out of it with a cocky remark that he doesn't need any more competition and that, child or no child, he wants me all to himself. He doe
LEONA"Really?" He came even closer, leaned into me and and bit my neck.I looked up at him and caught him staring at my chest with so much hunger and lust but above all, love. With Leonard in my arms, it made my towel pull down, revealing a greater part of my breast leaving only the nipples hidden."Make him sleep, Leo." His voice was begging. His lips moved to kiss the top of my breast but Leonard who hasn't slept yet pushed his head back and placed his little hands on my chest, shielding it from Dave.Dave glared at him and swat Leonard's hands away. "She's my woman, young man.""Seriously Dave. How would he sleep?" I laughed. History isn't repeating, is it?First, it was me fighting Leonard and now Dave fighting him."Then tell him that. He seems to be competing with me."Leonard wasn't having it either. He placed his hand back on my chest and added his head then rolled his baby blue eyes at Dave angrily."What! Did you see that?" Dave grumbled before placing his hand
LEONAI looked at him in absolute shock, my eyes threatening to fall out. This is incredibly unbelievable. I blink multiple times to clear my vision in case I was hallucinating but no. He stood there with his bandages still on him. He didn't look strong but he's here.My hands reached to grip Dave tight and my eyes water. With a shaky voice, I asked. "How?" He limped towards me but I stumbled back. "Are you sure you're not a ghost? I saw your dead body, Raymond. I saw how pale you got. I saw everything. How can you not die?""Don't go away from me, sis." He winced and stopped limping towards me."I'm sorry for scaring all of you. I should've said this to you upfront. You know, after my car accident, I did self-medication before coming to Dave's mansion. I knew that man would try something so I couldn't stay at the hospital though I was going through a lot of pain. I took an overdose of a strong antidepressant and it helped after he shot me. I really didn't feel st
"I'm taking them away, Dad," Dave answered and came to his father with a bunch of papers in his hand."What do you mean? This is their home too.""It was no longer home when you brought a devil to live in it." He retorted."Stop this, Dave. He's your brother." Charles whispered but it wasn't low enough."I refuse to accept him and you'd not change my mind.!"Who are they talking about? I didn't know Dave had a brother."Here, dad. This is all your business and ownership documents. I've resigned and signed everything out of my name. Where's mum? She should come and give them to her darling son." He looked around.I didn't understand whatever that was going on. Why's Dave giving everything back? Most importantly, was I supposed to witness this?I wished my feet would drag me out but I was too curious."I have my own company to focus on anyway.”"Is this how you behave?" Kim appeared. "You get angry at your parents when we scold you a little? We raised you better.""I'm glad you're here,
LEONAI paid the driver and stepped down. I stared at Raymond's apartment and literally wept.A lot of memories are being embedded here. I still can't believe that I lost my brother. My only brother. What kind of fate am I carrying? Why's it that I always invite trouble for people wherever I go?Dave went through a lot because of me. My family is not an exception but they survived it and my brother couldn't. Life is so unfair and especially to me.Oh, Lord. Please save my soul and remove all this pain and sorrows. It's more than I can take.I'm living but my life is not worth living without my backbone.I looked for the key where he always keeps it, put it in the keyhole then turned it gently before pushing it.The room was just as I expected. Dust and cobwebs everywhere which is clearly indicating that it's been a long time since a human lived here.I opened his room and walked slowly into it.I saw a photograph of us together on his bedside table and picked it up. I stared at it an
LEONA“Dave.” I called once the door clicked open and he stepped in. I shuffled to my feet and adjusted my eyes to the darkness."Why are you avoiding me?”He came late and I had stayed up all night just to talk to him.He found the switch and turned the lights on."And who said I am?” I watched him hang his suit jacket."Then what? Why are you doing this? This is not you." I complained."What am I doing? We talk, don't we?" His brows furrowed as he took off his cufflinks leisurely."You know what I'm talking about. Stop being nonchalant."“Fine. I'm only giving you space because anytime I try to get close you tell me you want to leave. To leave me. I didn't want to hear that…"Dave I ...""No Leona. Please don't say anything." He cuts me off and walked out.So this is it. He thinks I will leave? Well, that was my initial plan but I aborted it long ago.I tried starting a conversation with him to try and clear his misconception but he wouldn't give me a chance.I regret s
LEONA"Have you seen what you've caused our family? I've always known you're a bad egg. How could you? You should've looked for a decent job like every graduate or come back home. It was out of rage I acted harshly and threw you out but you could've come back. Your father got hospitalized because of you and yet you never showed up. What kind of a daughter are you Leona? And now because of your reckless ways, you lost your brother. You caused his death, Leona. I hope you know that!" Tasha scolded me once I joined them in the guest room."Are you done, woman?" Dad asked and she rolled her eyes."Must I always remind you that if you have nothing sensible to say you should keep quiet?""You won't start again Cornelius!" She warned.I knew just then that if I don't come in, they will start fighting."Dad, Tasha is right. I fucked up..""See? She started cursing. I fear you, Leona. Especially after what we went through because of you. I know you're a murderer just like that fearful man and
