CHAPTER SEVEN: KAEL
“The king's tea” she said calmly and he smiled, he walked beside her, their movement slow, Lucy would subconsciously glance at him, he was much taller than her, her head could only reach his shoulder. “Do you have a question dear lily” he asked as his golden eyes caught her hazel eyes which had sneakingly glanced at him, she blushed. She had to lie immediately “I was thinking if I had seen you before” she blurted out and the man narrowed his gaze. “Really, but why do I think it's more than that” he taunted, looking at him she paused, she didn't know what to say or she was lost in those golden eyes. “You see, you can't deny it” he whispered right beside her ear making her shiver, he leaned back flicking her head lightly, she scowled “I have to go now dear Lily” he said before he could leave Lucy called him back “can you tell me your name sir” she asked and the man raised a brow he paused his lips as if unsure about him telling her his name “call me Kael” he said and Lucy smiled “Kael, you have a beautiful name” she said before she could shut her mouth and Kael’s lips curled up into a genuine smile “just like your name Lily, I would love to stay with you but I have something to do and you have tea to serve” he said nodding at the tea and Lucy exclaimed as she recalled she was supposed to serve the king tea, Kael shook his head “the King would accept the tea you don't have to fear” he said and left his blue robe swaying as he walked away. Lucy winced as she imagined the head maid with an angry look ready to punish her, she hadn't seen the head maid carrying out her duties but Helene had always told her how strict and mean the head maid was. Touching the teacup placed carefully on the tray she relaxed knowing it was still hot, she left hastily. On reaching the king's room she cleared her throat knocking carefully on the door she heard a ‘come in’ cautioning herself mentally she twisted the door knob stepping in she shut the door behind her, she walked further into the room only to see the king standing by the window his hands clasped Behind his back she could see that he had his mask on again, he was as tall as kael, taking her eyes off the king she bowed stiffly “good morning to you your Majesty” she greeted and the king hummed she heard his footsteps as they approached her, she clenched the tray so hard that her knuckles turned white the king held her hands and she jerked “why are you scared” he asked annoyed but she didn't utter a word her heart still racing, he used his right hand to lift her face up as he held her chin delicately even though it wasn't painful she could feel her body recoil at his touch but she couldn't show it afraid she might piss him off “I apologize for making your Majesty angry” she said still holding onto the tray tightly and his left hand still on hers “you, you are forgiven” he said his eyes boring into hers, she stared at those mild lights she could call his eyes, she felt as if they were studying her trying to see her innermost part she lowered her eyes unable to stare at them, she didn't know why but it wasn't the hatred that made her do so. Letting go of her chin he took the teacup from the tray sniffing it he growled which jolted Lucy, the King turned his head as he was back to his former position “you may leave Lily” he said and Lucy's eyes widened the way he called her felt familiar. Placing the tray on the table she took one last glance at the King she shook her head ‘Sir Kael isn't like this and besides he doesn't address himself as king’ she thought as she left the room on her way back she saw the guard that bullied her, he glared at her and she gulped even though she was angry she can't die without fulfilling if it's half of her goal, she headed to the other direction in search of Catherine but she met the head maid instead “and what are you doing wandering around” the woman questioned, “I apologize” she said not wanting to involve Catherin, she glared at her “Lily I heard you don't like having your bath with the other maids is that true” she asked and Lucy stared at her, ‘how did she know and besides is that even a problem’ she thought and the woman stepped closer “you should be careful Lily I don't know you but I feel like you are hiding more so watch your back and don't let me find out your little secret” she said in a low tone and left an astonished Lucy behind she had an idea who might have disclosed the issue of her bathing alone to her, she closed her eyes trying to contain her anger it wasn't good for her to be angry, she sighed since her world turned upside down she felt that there were many obstacles and haters against her. She remembered the beautiful pond she wished she could go back to that pond, regaining her composure she headed back to the third palace to avoid seeing the head maid once more, she overheard the maids discussion “the King has an announcement to make tomorrow, I am so eager to know what it be about” the first maid said and the other two nodded “l hope it will be for the best, i wouldn't want to be killed” the second said while the third signalled the other two to come closer “I do think that the rumour is true, at the garden I saw one of the king's soldiers disappear into the bush and when I tried see what was happening” she said and paused glancing around but she couldn't see Lucy as she hid behind the pillar.CHAPTER EIGHT: UPCOMING BANQUET Lucy's eyes lit up wanting to know more. The third maid relaxed seeing the hallway was empty “I saw a huge wolf there and I didn't see the guard, scared I ran away to avoid being eaten by the wolf” she narrated and the others shook frightened “I think the new king and his soldiers are mysterious and if we desire to stay in this palace with our head still on our neck we have to be careful and not to step on their toes” the first maid said and the others nodded, they scurried away.Lucy grasped her mind taking in the information she had received from the maids, she remembered when she overheard her dad talking about some wolves with someone she couldn't see as she was trying to sneak away when she saw him.Lucy gently left the pillar she was stopped by a red haired guard “Lily the King seeks your presence” he said and Lucy's heart skipped, the guard's face was rigid scaring, she didn't know if the King had found out who she is, swallowing she followed h
CHAPTER NINE:BITTER ANNLucy called out his name, it wasn't him but Ann, she scoffed “Lily don't tell me you've started seeing a man within a day of entering the palace, well what can I say I have always known you have some secrets but being a slut? Tsk tsk” she said clicking her tongue, Lucy felt the urge to slap her, she wasn't the type that was violent but she never appreciated being insulted, holding back the anger which cursed through her veins as she breathed in and out. It wouldn't be good if she ruined her plans tonight because of her, ignoring Ann's remarks she left the door open and continued what she was doing but the former wasn't satisfied “who is the young naive man with no taste that would want to be with you Hmn? Oh maybe he is a guard no wonder you passed the test, you were literally sleeping with him right?” she asked then gasped faking a shocking look, Lucy had heard enough. She turned around and before Ann could laugh at her she heard a deafening slap as it resonat
CHAPTER TEN: ANNOYED KING Stepping into the grand hall she stared at the familiar silver coloured walls, it was still as magnificent as it was months ago, seeing one of the minister's son one she had once rejected, she frowned but then everything would be alright if she didn't lose her cool, the young man was known for his ability to recognise one through their voice. Even though she always wore her veil, but then she had spoken to him before, on reaching where he stood she bowed, just as she wanted to walk past him, Ann quacked her and she slipped only to be held by a strong hand as they wrapped around her waist she gasped and clung onto the man regaining her composure she looked up to thank the man and her eyes widened. ‘what sort of bad luck is this’ she thought as she stared at the minister's son who was still holding onto her waist, his gaze on her, clearing her throat she gently removed his hand from her waist “thank you sir, I apologize for the
CHAPTER ELEVEN: THOSE EYES? Lucy stood there staring at the Minister's, the ones who had served her father. They were comfortable with the usurper as if he was their rightful king, she wanted to rip them apart, her eyes went to Alex's father who smiled the most she clenched her fist ‘that means, if I had agreed to marry his son he would hand me over easily’ she thought closing her eyes as a sharp pain wash over her, her head hurts a lot she staggered but maintained her balance. The guests arrived, they were four in number, three men and a lady. The lady and one of the men wore black masks. They looked lethal, the other two wore the same uniform as the king's men.Lucy stared at their mask recalling Helene's words ‘he wore a black mask’ she could hear Helene's voice in her head once more. Her eyes darkened, darting between the king and the man.‘the king wears silver mask only, then who did Helene see was it him’ she thought as her eyes soften as she stared at the king, she shook he
CHAPTER TWELVE: PAINTINGS TWO DAYS LATER.Lucy kept doing her job as a tea maid, sitting on the swing in her garden she stared at the plants she had nurtured with Helene, remembering the past she sighed, her mind drifted back to Kael. Even though he had hurt her she still wanted to meet him and carefully ask him why but then he seemed to be avoiding her all these while.Lucy thought about what she had read, but then it wasn't easy for her to ask anyone about wolfsbane, she would be questioned, a bulb lit in her head ‘if father had such information in his possession, then he would have fought back. That means it's useless’ she thought.Lucy stood up and headed inside, it was time for her to check the whole book for more clues.THE KING'S STUDY ROOMThe King sat on his chair as he stared at the paintings before him, one was the painting of a boy's back view, and though the figure wore a male clothing one could still see the delicate features that it belonged to a female, her brown hai

Lucy stood before her secret door her hands on her knees as she took in heavy sharp breath she had ran all the way, she sneaked in only to see everywhere quiet with no guard stationed as usual she shivered it was getting darker placing her coin pouch and extra clothe beside her secret exit so that she wouldn't be noticed easily she ran to her room and changed into a purple dress she walked out but saw no one only to see Helene running towards her Lucy caught her “Helene what is wrong did father get to know about my disappearance” she asked but Helene shook her head tears in her eyes

CHAPTER SIX: A NEW DAY AT THE PALACE Searching, her eyes wandered till they landed on a masculine tall man who stood out amongst the other soldiers he took regal strides as he walked to a seat one like a throne at the other end of the hall. He wore a black royal robe, his face was masked, there was something off about his silver coloured mask; she couldn't see her eyes, one thing she needed for confirmation. One thing was certain this man before him screamed danger whereas she was comfortable with the stranger. Sighing she silenced her thoughts. The head maid was there with them as well. She brought out a scroll she had seen her holding earlier and guessed it contained the names of the new maids. After a while she heard her name “Lily, step out” she said coldly and Lucy walked out immediately feeling the king's eyes on her as she couldn't see his eyes she held herself from glaring at him. “Present” she said just like the others. “You will be assigned the duty of making the
CHAPTER FIVE: FAMILIAR VOICELying down on the wooden bed she relaxed, for a royal it would have been hard to cope but she had always mingled with commoners.Closing her eyes her mind drifted back to those golden eyes, she shivered hearing a heavy thump she sat up searching for who it was only to realize it was her heart she face smacked herself, she wasn't the type to fall for someone easily she had met lots of handsome men but none was like him it wasn't about his looks she just couldn't tell what it was that made her feel attracted to him. After an hour of struggles she finally slept off as she curled into a ball on the bed with a duvet draped over her body.Lucy felt a tap on her shoulder she whined snuggling closer to her pillow a smile on her face as she dreamt of her mother but the tap became numerous she grunted and slowly open her eyes “Helene stop disturbing me please” she said immediately as she rubbed her eyes “Lily it's me Catherine not Helene” Catherine said helping her
