Chapter 67

“Then I wouldn't mind killing people,” his eyes were glued to me the moment he said that. We exchanged tough stares together, and he was reading me like a damn book. I didn't back down as I was trying to examine every reaction from him.

He wouldn't mind killing people? I suddenly remember how I found out that he has feelings for me. It was the day Elijah and Lucas fought that they almost killed each other. He had feelings for me and Lucas knew all my life that my parents didn't treat me right as they always had their eyes on Freya.

“Really?” I asked, trying to catch him. The side of his lips moved and nodded.

“Yeah, of course. I mean, that's how I love. I don't want my woman getting hurt,”

Tension—that was what filled the entire room. It felt like there were only the two of us and Lily and Brian were not there at all. He remained looking at me and I didn't back down. But inside me, I was terrified. Not with the fact that he might hurt me, but the fact that if he's really the culprit, I don't know what to do.

I couldn't imagine how I would react. He is important to me—the two of them are important in my life. I wouldn't like to lose one of them again after losing Freya.

“You're damn crazy,” Lily commented and shook her head.

“Brian might do the same for Faith,” Lily added and chuckled. Silence invaded all of us again. They were really clueless about everything. I didn't bother to glance at Brian. Instead, I acted fine, as if nothing happened at all. I don't want that to come out from my own mouth.

“She rejected me,” I was not surprised when he said that. I was kinda expecting that he would announce it, too. I chose not to look at Lucas and Lily and still acted normally. I don't want to ruin this night but it was already ruined from the beginning.

“What?” Lily was the one who broke the ice.

“You're kidding,” she added and tried to laugh. But none of us laugh. Brian stayed silent.

“Faith,” Lucas called when Brian didn't say a thing anymore.

I didn't plan to answer them, but they still asked me. I took a heavy breath before I finally glanced back at them. The two of them locked me from their eyes while Brian beside me was trying to act cool as well.

“It's true,” I replied, confirming everything.

“You don't have feelings for him?” Lily asked, looking so stunned about it.

“She never told us that she's in love with him,” Lucas said, and he got a point with that.

“What now?” Lily asked, still confused. It seems like she couldn't absorb everything in her head yet.

“We're friends,” I said and eyed Brian. He eyed me back and that was when I noticed that his eyes were swollen and yet that small smile managed to protrude.

“Kind of,” he heaved a heavy sigh. “I'll move on,” he just nodded, trying to avoid making them feel worried about him. I looked away as my guilt was knocking on my chest again.

The dinner ended not so well. I drove back to the hotel with Lily and the two men separated ways.

“Why did you reject him? I mean, it's not like you cannot, but I thought you have feelings for Brian already,” she asked the moment we entered the hotel room. I was kinda expecting her to ask more about me and Brian.

“I don't have feelings for him. It took me a long time before realizing it,” I replied and threw myself on the sofa. Now, I feel so damn tired.

“Damn. He's probably hurt,” she commented while already worried about him. This is the hardest part in rejecting someone. Even though it is not my fault that I wasn't able to reciprocate his feelings, I felt like I'm the one to blame as if I am obligated to like him back.

“Let's not talk about it,” I said before I left her there alone before she could ask more questions.

The next day, I headed straight to the construction of my house just to check everything.

“Are you gonna live here alone?” Engr. Calvera asked.

“Yeah. What's the problem with that?” I eyed him with my sharp eyes, trying to read his mind.

“Nothing. It's just that, this house is damn big,” he chuckled beyond his confusion.

The truth is, I don't even know if I will live. I don't have any idea what to do with this house. I somehow think that this is just a waste of money, but I needed this to pull my enemies closer to me.

“Architect Elijah was your ex-husband, right?” He asked with curiosity. The video probably reached him, too.

“Yeah, why?” I still acted unaffected with that question.

“Is it true that he cheated?” I can't believe he still wants a confirmation from me beyond the exposure of Elijah's doings in the past.

“Everything that the woman said on the video is true. I just don't remember her anymore,” I confirmed. We were both watching Elijah from afar, working with the men.

After how I trampled his image, I can't believe that he's still working fine as if it didn't even pull him down.

“You're a martyr woman,” he shook his head unbelievably.

“I didn't believe the video at first,” that captured my eyes. I didn't know that there was someone who didn't believe the video and didn't side with me that quickly.

“And why?”

“Because I've been friends with Elijah, he has been mentioning a woman. He said she got everything from a woman. The problem is, he was a jerk and lost that woman. Now, I think he was actually pertaining to you. I just didn't expect that he had done so much,” my eyes remained at Elijah.

“Do you know how miserable that man is? Damn, he was the most wasted man I knew.” He chuckled. I didn't bother to ask him for more details of that, and instead, I kept my silence.

“It's not like I'm siding with Elijah, Faith. It's just that, I know that he's sorry and he has changed. I think he waited for you for so many years and he did everything he could to fix himself to prepare for your come back,”

“Why are you telling me this?” I don't need to hear all these things from him.

“Because you need to know the other side of the story. I don't know what happened between you, but you are both in love with each other. Don't make things hard for the two of y—”

“The night I lost our child, did you know that Elijah just stood up there, watching me with my mother hurting me so much?” That made him pause.

“You don't know that, right?” He looks really stunned.

“You’re my Engineer, but I am not paying you to stick your nose into my business,” I said before I turned my back to her. I should just leave before I could even lose my temper.

I worked all day just like usual. The news about the issue between me and Elijah is dying slowly, just like what it always has been.

“You're home,” the food that Lily was cooking invaded my nose immediately.

“What are you cooking?” I asked.

“Some veggies and meat. We will eat in a few minutes,” she replied while looking so busy in the kitchen; the entire kitchen is a mess.

“Lucas might come. He's not doing anything as of now,” she mentioned.

“I see,” but inside me, I was really nervous. I can't imagine myself being in the same room with the two of them, especially now that they are one of our suspects.

“Don't expect Brian, he's heartbroken,” she now chuckled.

“Anyway, what's your plan now?” She glanced at me for a moment before going back to cooking. Before, when she normally asked me this, I was really comfortable. But right now? I felt like I should be careful with every word that I will let go.

“I don't know yet,” I replied. It was a lie, though. Because the truth is, I plan to unravel the death of my sister. Once I found that culprit, maybe I should think of my next step in ruining Elijah and my parents.

“Where was the last time you went to our house with the car we were using during the accident?” That captured her eyes. She looked at me with confusion. Did I jump to that conversation too fast?

“Why are you asking?”

“Nothing, just got me thinking.” I reasoned out. I'm just trying to catch her.

“Well, I think the day before the accident?” I stopped. The day before the accident?

“What? Are you sure?”

“Yeah, it was that day. I was there before the accident. I even went on the car,”

The question is, why was she there before the accident?

Have you ever been under the water and you cannot hear everything vividly? That's exactly how it feels. It feels like I am under the water and my ears are filled with water that I don't understand what they were saying. The sky, I see the sky. It was bright—too bright that it blinds my eyes. I see unfamiliar faces staring at me, but I couldn't identify any of them. They were too blurred for me. My body. I couldn't feel a thing; I can't feel my own body like I was numb. What's happening? Where am I? “FREYA!” Perhaps, I went out under the water. That's the only thing I heard clearly. Slowly, my eyes landed on a very familiar woman crying over someone. Along with the loud sound of the ambulance, her shattering voice and cry invaded my ears as if she was mourning. I couldn't move, not even my fingers. The next th

Since I came back home, none of them treated me right. My parents never talk to me, not until now. I had to look behind me, checking if she was talking to me or not. “It's Freya’s funeral,” I replied. My father laughed as if he lost his mind. I remained glancing at them with questions right through my eyes. “Who says that you're going with us?” Mom asked as the side of her lips rose while her sharp eyes were pierced at me. “What? But Freya is my sister. I must co—” “And you killed your sister, Faith. Have you forgotten about it?” My lips parted. I was left with no words at all. I couldn't even make a sentence when she said that again. I was indeed in awe. Everything was processing in my head slowly. I can't believe them. I can't believe that they are blaming her death on me. “How many

Chapter 3“Congratulations, Faith and Elijah.” We have been greeting the guests since we arrived at the reception of our wedding and I have been forced to smile like everything's fine in front of them. All of them have their own worlds, even our parents who were busy entertaining the others. Honestly, I don't know any of them. Some of them are familiar to me, unlike Elijah who knows each of them. “Thank you,” I replied, forcing a tiny smile on my lips. That was all that I could do while engaging with them.“Sadly, Freya didn't get to see this.” One of the ladies uttered, which made my smile fade. I froze for a moment before I glanced at Elijah. I saw how his fake smile vanished as well. “You were Freya's boyfriend before, right? I can't believe your parents arranged this marriage beyond tha—”“She's dead, Mrs. Alejandro. Chapter 4 That night it rained; it was a very heavy rain as if the sky was filled with rage. I could feel my tears slipping out of my eyes while looking at the white ceiling of the room. Elijah's scent was all over me. I could still feel his touch as if his hands were still traveling every corner of my body. The middle of my legs was sore—and I could feel it all like it was burning and wrecked. “W-Where are you going?” He caught my attention in one snap even how stuttered I was when he didn't even lay down beside me. He was all naked in front of me and he didn't mind. For so many years that we have been together as friends and as my sister's lover, I never once imagined myself being with him on this kind of night where we are both naked with our torn hearts and souls. “The honeymoon is done,” he replied without giving me an eye. I crumpled the sheet of blanket covered on my body. He sounded like he just portrayed his role as the groom in this wedding. My womanhood is bu

Chapter 5“He despised me,” I uttered while I was busy checking out the new set of clothing fabrics that was delivered today. I am still stuck with what I heard and saw from Elijah last night. He was grieving, mourning, and hating me each day. It slapped me with the truth that he really did just marry me to punish me—to make my life like a real hell. “How was he?” Lily asked. Yesterday, it was Lucas who visited me, and now it's her. I know that the two of them are worried. Among all the people who hate me, there are still Lucas and Lily who cared for me. It turns out that Elijah belongs to the group of people who wished me to die instead of my sister. “Cold? He doesn’t care. Elijah changed after Freya passed away. He's full of anger,” rage is firing up inside and outside of him. “What about your parents? Did they reach out?” I smirked and shook my head. I couldn't say a single word after he told us the new suspects. Lily and Lucas. They were both close in my heart. I have been with them my entire life and they have witnessed everything that I have been through. It's not just that, Freya is also their friend. We are all damn friends and yet one of them might be the culprit. “Now we have three suspects: your mother, Lily and Lucas.” The detective said while my entire world is already colliding. I wanted to prepare myself, but I couldn't. No matter who it is, it would surely shatter me to the point that I might not know how to stand up again. All my life, I thought we were not just friends but a family that I never had. “Only one of them is the suspect,” Elijah uttered, trying to crack the puzzle. “As of now, all I can do is to watch them closely. Chapter 65I closed my eyes, trying to feel the same feeling I've felt towards Elijah. My lips were on his lips, and my hand even traveled on his neck. I moved my lips, still eager to make myself feel those strange feelings I used to have. But then, no matter how I tried, I felt nothing. It was not the same when I remember myself kissing Elijah. It was totally different. It was always strange, but I loved it. The soft kiss that would make my eyes close without me noticing. The silence, as if no one was around us. Our breaths hit each other's face. Our eyes together were filled with delight and unbeatable romance. His hands on my waist felt warm. It has always been like that. A very short kiss that feels like the longest one. I didn't feel any of that when I kissed Brian. We eyed each other and his eyes were satiated with delight, love and sincerity. I wore the same eyes before. But right now, my blank eyes remain—or perhaps, disappointed. I crumpled my hands as I faced Elijah who

As far as I remember, the last time I felt the same was also because of him. I hate myself for feeling this strange feeling again. I could not move in my position as if my feet were glued on the floor. Our eyes were both stuck towards each other. His eyes were filled with sincerity. They were soft as before, which reminds me of how I was captivated by those eyes before—when everything was still fine, when our souls were not ripped yet. He was begging with those eyes. They were speaking to me, trying to make me believe how pure she is. “Trust me, I regret everything. Every day that you were away in four years, I couldn't stop thinking of you that I felt like going mad,” it was the first time that I listened. Just like what the detective said, I should not trust anyone until the culprit is caught. As of now, my mother is the biggest suspect that we have. But knowing that the culprit is around me, I felt like I cannot trust any of them. Who knows? The person behind this might be just playing under my nose for a long time. “Work? I work overtime,” I avoided her eyes and acted normal right in front of her. If it is not my mother, would it be Lily? Would she plan something cruel like that? I don't know. She has been my one and only best friend in my entire life. If it is her, I don't know what I can do, but I am sure that it would break me into a million pieces.
