Chapter Two - Night Out

Before I went out with Caroline I had to do a couple of things first.

I had already completed some paper work and now I was on my way to visit my parents.

After my father stepped down from his Alpha position, he and my mother moved out of the pack house. They now stayed in a cabin out in the woods, next to the lake.

I followed the stone pathway up to their door and knocked.

“Anita. What are you doing here?” my mom asked welcoming me inside.

Laura was a gorgeous woman. The pack was proud to have her as their Luna, and my father as his wife. Everyone respected her and praised about how she was a caring mother and strong woman.

My dad used to tell me that beside every strong Alpha is an even stronger Luna, and he was right.

I looked up to my mother as much as my father and for good reason.

“I wanted to check up on you guys. Where’s dad?” I said.

“In there, watching the football game” she scoffed.

I smiled while walking to the living room and saw she was right. He was sitting in his chair with his eyes glued to the TV.

“So, is this what you do after you retire?” I spoke sitting on the arm of his chair.

“Hey princess. What’s going on?” he questioned glancing my way.

“Nothing. I just finished some paperwork and training the pups. Caroline and I are going into town for a girl’s night out”, I sighed, getting up and going over to the sofa.

“You don’t seem so excited” he chuckled.

“I’m not. I really should be spending the night locked in my office going over the pack's finance reports” I explained.

“Listen, take it from someone who’s been there, every once in a while you need to step away from the pack and have fun. You’ll stress yourself out worrying about work so much” he told me.

“I know, dad” I breathed, rubbing my neck.

“What else is bothering you?” he asked.

“My birthday’s coming up” I said giving him a knowing look.

“Patience Anita, your mate will come. Just give it time” my father spoke.

“Don’t you think five years is enough time, dad? I’m tired of watching everyone find their other half while I’m stuck alone. When will it be my turn to be happy?” I grumbled.

“Soon. Sometimes it takes longer for others that’s all” he assured me.

“What if I never find my mate? I’ll be alone and the pack, we need an heir” I whispered.

“You’ll be okay princess” my dad sighed getting up to give me a hug.

Thanks” I breathed.

“Anytime princess” he replied.

I spent a couple more hours with my parents before going home to get ready.

I hadn’t been out in a while so, I was kind of happy. My father was right. Sometimes, being an Alpha could be stressing.

When I finished showering, I got dressed, did my hair and makeup. The closer it came to nine o'clock, the more nervous I seemed to get.

By the time I was finished and made it downstairs, I was rethinking this whole plan.

But, just when I was about to lock myself in my office, Caroline come strolling through the door.

“Oh you look really good, Anita” she said smiling.

“Thanks, so do you” I sighed.

“Okay, are you ready to go?”she asked taking my arm and leading me outside, to her baby blue Kia.

“Actually Caro, I’m not so sure about this. I have a lot of work to finish. Maybe we should do this another time” I mumbled.

“You're an Alpha Anita, you shouldn’t be scared to go out and have a good time. You need to relax” she spoke, glancing my way.

“Fine” I reluctantly got into the car.

The drive into town was a good twenty five minutes. It did us best not to be so close to humans. They wouldn’t react well to seeing a whole bunch of wolves running around in their backyard.

When Caroline pulled up to the place we were going to, I noticed it wasn’t too crazy. It looked like a really nice bar. We got out and headed inside.

There were people drinking and having fun, some even dancing to the jukebox playing some 90’s music.

“Let’s go to the bar” Caro said grabbing my hand.

I took a seat on one of the stools. As I looked around I was hit with the magnificent smell of pine. It made me shiver in pleasure as I breathed it in deeply.

“Anita, are you okay?” my best friend asked, looking at me with concern.

Ignoring her I stood up and glanced around to find the source of the hypnotizing aroma.

When I did I was shocked to say the least. It was coming from a guy sitting in the back of the establishment. He looked like he really didn’t belong in a place like this but, he was here and looked to be in his own world typing away on his laptop.

I felt it the moment my eyes landed on him. It wasn’t that strong but, the bond was there.

He was the person I’ve been waiting for since I turned eighteen.

“Anita what’s wrong?” Caro questioned.

“I found him” I whispered.

“Who?”she asked, looking around confused.

“My mate”, I breathed, looking at her and smiling.

The other half and the one I belonged with.Ever since I was younger, I knew this would happen, but now that I’ve found him it was kind of surreal.I couldn’t fathom it was happening and truthfully I was shocked.“I will. I... I just can’t believe this” I sighed.“Me either. You finally have found your mate” she hummed.“Yeah, and he’s human” I mumbled.“Who’s cares? You need to go over and speak to him” she urged but, I didn’t move.It was like I was glued to the floor and all my confidence evacuated the building.I had never felt like this in my life. I was an Alpha, so confidence was a necessity for me, but now it was all gone.“What if he doesn’t like me? Or what if he does but finds out that I'm a werewolf and rejects me?” I mumbled nervously.“No, we are not playing the doubt game, Anita. You'r

Her name was Anita”, I replied as I fastened the buttons.“Well, did you and Anita have sex?” she questioned, sitting up on my bed and looking at me coyly.“No dummy, we didn’t have sex", I said, eyeing her. "But, our meeting was kind of unusual. I've never encountered someone like her before. She was very bold, and confident” I explained.“Well the girls you usually deal with are sluts, that's why”, Rose said, frowning.“No, they are not. They are very nice girls. What explanation do you have for that!?!” I snapped staring at the young wolf.“He was kissing his mate and I couldn’t control myself” he argued.“That’s no excuse. You put this whole pack in danger!” I yelled. This was a serious problem because the last thing we need is hunters.Especially since rogues have been noticed near the borders. It was my job to keep everyone safe and I wasn’t going to fail.“You don’t understand because you don’t have a mate, and may never have one!!” he yelled staring at me.My wolf pushed forward at this sign of disrespect, causing me to growl.“Know your place. I am your Alpha and you will respect me” I hissed showing my canines. He tried to stay bold but eventually he dropped his head as a sign of submission.“Sorry Alpha” he mumured.“You will be running midni

This date was horrible. I had been looking forward to meeting up with Kelly and learning a little more about him.Though I could have just ran a simple background check at the pack house, but I also wanted to spend time with him.Unfortunately I’ve been here twenty minutes and the only thing I learned was that Rose liked my mate and couldn’t keep her hands to herself. She was constantly touching him and he didn’t seem to mind.I was two minutes away from jumping over this table and ripping her throat out with my teeth but, I had to tame myself no matter how difficult.I usually had amazing control over emotions but, the mate bond had a way of messing with a wolf’s rationality. All your feelings are heightened when it comes to your mate; Jealously, anger and possessiveness all rise to maximum lengths which is why it’s critical to keep your self control. That’s also the reason I won’t allow Brayden to see his mate.He needed to calm down before he did something he’d regret.“Anita, are

I’m sorry for ruining your date with that woman” she grumbled.“Hey! That woman has a name!" I yelled. "Her name is Anita and I don’t forgive you. Once again, you were sticking your nose in a place it doesn’t belong. My love life is mine and I don’t need you or my mother messing around in it” I told her.“What love life? It was actually kind one of the hardest choices I’ve ever had to make.I love Anita. I would be lying if I said otherwise. The thought of her death made me physically sick.I couldn’t lose anyone else. A month. I had bed sentenced to bed rest because the pain was so bad. There wasn’t any medicine strong enough for my Alpha metabolism, which meant I was on my own.My wolf was barely there and I knew it was only a matter of days before she disappeared for good.I wouldn’t be able to survive without her so, I would perish as well.I didn’t regret my decision, even after all this. I did what I had to.I needed to protect my pack. My only regret was how I had hurt Kelly.I should have left him to his life. Bringing him here was a mistake.I had survived 23 years without a mate. I didn’t need to involve him but, I was selfish. The one thing an Alpha couldn’t be.My family and friends were all pressuring me to call Kelly and have him take back the rejection, but I couldn’t.I had no right to barge into his life again and ask that of him.Honestly, part of me was scared. Terrified that he wouldn’t want to take it back, that he’d take pleasure in seeing me wither and die. That my death could

The moment the words left his mouth I could feel my wolf start to wither. He may not have formally rejected us but, it was enough.“Yeah well he thought that leaving would keep you safe. That he could walk away and not put you at risk.He needs to know how wrong he was. Every thought that seemed to pass through my head at the moment was incoherent.I didn’t understand it.The only thing I really knew at that moment was I wanted to get as far away from here as I could.Grabbing my keys from my pocket I walked out the pack house and proceeded across the grounds.I needed to get to my car and drive.
