CHAPTER 79

Diego

“Cheers boys,” Sofia said as we all toasted. I could tell my uncle was surprised I had a girlfriend, even though she was only pretending to be. "Please excuse me," Uncle said before making his way upstairs.

“Do you think he bought it?” Sofia whispered, but I told her to remain quiet.

We finished our meals and went to the living room to make it look like we were watching a movie together. I was still caught up in the moment when the last person I expected to see arrived. “Diego!” Sonia exclaimed.

"Hello, what a surprise," I replied, knowing that nothing good would come from it.

“I could say the same, who is she?” Sonia inquired, looking at Sofia, who lay comfortably in my arms.

“She's my fiancé,” I replied.

"What do you mean, this slut is your fiancé?" Sonia furiously asked.

I was hesitant at first, but I had to wake up knowing Miguel I did not want to take any further chances. “Sweetie, what's the matter?” I asked, hoping it was not about Diego."Mommy, why don't you want Daddy to sleep on your bed?" He questioned, and I could not believe he figured it out so quickly."No, sweetie, who told you that your daddy lies down right—" I looked at the side of the bed I was going to point to, and it did not even appear that anyone had slept there. Miguel chuckled and ran away after telling me Diego was in his bedroom. What is he doing there, given the text I sent him yesterday, and who permitted the guards to let him in? I didn't even have time for those responses, so I dashed out after Miguel into his room. Diego quickly stood on his feet, terrified. Well, it is not the kind of fright that intimidates you; it is just that one of me is probably going to get him

I said, about to call the guards, when my towel loosened and nearly fell off, but Diego caught it in time."What do you think—," I almost asked looking at him, but then noticed he had closed his eyes and tightened his grip on me."Do not worry, I am not looking. I know you're embarrassed but you are used to this touch, so relax," Diego said, and I somehow let it sink in as he slowly tightened the towel.I began to recall those days when he was calmer and nicer to me when he would tell me about his plans for us, but a memory of what caused all of that to fail came flooding back, and I pushed him so hard that he nearly fell to the ground, safe for the couch that stood there. CHAPTER 1 NEW YORK 2018 ~SERENE~ I stared down the window, lost in my thoughts. Why was life so unfair to me? I thought the hardest thing for a woman was to make their in-laws love them, which is why I grew up making sure they loved me, and they did, as they even made sure I married him. Yes, I was married to the love of my life, Diego. From the moment I set my eyes on him, I knew he was the one for me. I was fortunate as his family was good friends with my father, and since my father died saving him, they swore to make sure he married me. I was happy when he finally proposed. I can still remember that day, like yesterday. He was not happy. He told me he was doing it for his family, but did I care? No, because I knew I would win his heart, and no, I was not giving up. I am going to win his heart. I subconsciously stopped myself as I raised my hand almost sipping on the wine then I remembered I was not pregnant, I just lost our baby a few weeks ago so I brought the glass to my mo

After everyone had finished their studies, we stayed in the same city for a while before moving on to our respective professions. I did not have to go anywhere except to decide where I wanted my father's empire to expand. I would have let my father and his brother run the same company, but I am glad my mother made it clear that I was the only one who would inherit all of her wealth, and Dad had to go with what she wanted even though he was wealthier. So, since everything happened so quickly, I have not heard from Sofia in years, except for rumors about her appearance on a reality show."How about we go on a date,

Opportunity only comes once in a lifetime; the woman I once treated as trash is about to become my bloody uncle's treasure, right in front of my eyes. No! As soon as my son fell asleep, I had to get home. I arrived home and discovered that it was already 4 a.m. So all I had to do was rest for two hours before heading to work, so I got busy.I entered my room and quickly locked the door because I did not want any surprises, especially from Sonia, who was struggling to accept that what had happened to us could no longer continue. That was back when I was a jerk, but now I have learned my lesson. I took off my clothes and went to take a cold shower before bed. As I fell deeper into my sleep, I began

There is no way I would let my son hear what we were talking about, let alone learn how much I dislike his father. "Sweetie, we are here," I said, walking towards his bed with Diego."Hey Champ, are you okay?" Diego inquired, running his hands through Miguel's hair."Uhuh, I… I just had a nightmare," he said."Oh, we are so sorry; trust me, that will not happen again; we will sleep right here next to you," Diego said, while I gave him a fierce look that Miguel did not notice.“No, you can go while I—”“Mommy, where's Daddy going?” Miguel cut me off, and I quickly realized I was about to hint at something bad."To the kitchen for some milk, sweetie, but what are you thinking?" I am not saying she should give him a chance or anything. I am just glad that child is with its father; you know what it is like to be without a father's love," Neina told Charlotte, while I laughed at them."Look, Serene, if I were you, I would hold that... Just as I was about to go downstairs, I ran into my uncle. "Diego, where are you going right now?" he inquired, his curiosity evident.'What should I say now?' I asked myself while I was still thinking up my cock and bull story."Nowhere important, just taking some files to the airport," I lied and dashed out.I walked out and got into my car; I knew my uncle would be following me, so I drove to the airport and asked my cab driver to wait for me at the back door.
