CHAPTER 69

Diego

"Sweetie," Serene said, quickly releasing my shirt. I was going to die if my son had not come to my rescue. "Are you fighting with Daddy?" he asked, approaching us.

“No, not at all I was just —”

"Fixing my collar," I cut her off because she ran out of words.

"Yes, I was fixing Daddy's collar; where have you been?" Serene questioned him while holding his cheeks.

"I was in the toy room waiting for Daddy," he explained.

“What?”

"Daddy promised to play with me in the morning, but he did not come," he explained, and Serene turned to look at me, possibly regretful.

“Oh, I'm so sorry I forgot I had —”

"Blood," Miguel interrupted me as he noticed my hand was bleeding.

“What!” Serene replied, looking in the direction Miguel had pointed.

"Oh, sweetie, I am sorry," she said, covering his eyes as he started to shiver.

“Is daddy going to be OK?” he cried.

"Yes, Daddy will be fine, sweetie; do not cry," Serene reassured him.

The maid quickly brought her the first aid kit, but sh

CHAPTER 70Serene What could be better than seeing the mighty Diego Myers cleaning up his messes? Maybe he was right; when I saw the blood, I felt bad, but not as bad as I would have back then. Covering my son's eyes was far too important since his fear of blood grows every time he sees it. I used to tell him that losing too much blood could result in hospitalization, which he despised. Just as Diego began cleaning, I walked out and went to the dining room to check on Miguel. "Mommy, where is Daddy?" he inquired, looking behind me, likely hoping to see Diego."Your father is—is on a phone call," I responded, knowing he would not want to disturb Diego."OK, I will go wait for him to finish," he replied and was about to leave when I gently held his arm. "Wait, sweetie," I quickly said.“Mommy is everything OK?” he asked."Yes, I just wanted to give you a kiss before you leave," I said, kissing him quickly and signaling Rina to go make sure Diego finished the cleaning. There is no way I

CHAPTER 71SERENE I know Diego must be happy that I hugged him. It is not like I had a choice; making sure my son does not notice the distance between us is something I will have to keep doing until he is old enough to understand things. I do not want to fall for anything Diego is attempting. I was still deep in thought when Rina shook my shoulder. "Someone looks so lost that peck must have stimulated a lot, right?" She teased me."You must be crazy to think I kissed him," I said, jumping out of the car as the guard opened it for me.“Come on it's Mr. Myers after all,” she said and held her mouth when I gave her a serious look.I walked towards the main entrance, and everyone kept greeting me, with some even complimenting my outfit. "Ms. Bright's welcome; we expected to see your secretary," Mr. Simon said."Oh, that is correct, but important gatherings must not be missed at any cost; I am sure you understand how the game is played in the business world," I replied with a smile."Yes,

CHAPTER 72Diego Serene is so unbelievable that it is becoming increasingly difficult for me to resist her. I am not sure what is wrong with me, but every time I look at her, I start wishing things had not turned out the way they did between us, or rather that I had not behaved like an ass. I am now dealing with a new reality: another man has come into her life. No! There is no way I would let my son call someone else 'Dad'. I need to act quickly. I was still thinking when I noticed the lift close directly in front of me. “No!” I said, wishing I had walked out on time.It opened, and I found myself on the top floor again. A woman walked in with files in her hands, and I recognized her as Rina Serene's PA. "I thought you were gone, Mr. Myers," she said, smiling."That is correct, but I had something else to do before I left," I replied."Oh, I see; have fun then," she said as she was about to walk out of the lift, but I interrupted her with a question."May I have some coffee with you

CHAPTER 73Diego I felt my hands tighten into fists, and my chest burned with rage as I remembered that Serene had told me the flowers were from her boyfriend. So, all along, my uncle had been the man she was talking about. I know he doesn't love her; whatever he is doing is to gain access to her wealth and steal as much as he can from her, as he did with his wife until she vanished with no trace to date. We all suspected he was behind her sudden disappearance, but we could not gather enough evidence to fight him. I will not allow Serene to suffer the same fate. I went to my room and quickly changed to take a shower while Grace ironed the clothes I requested. When I finished, I walked out and saw Sonia in a bikini. "Hello, sweetheart," she said, walking towards me."What exactly are you doing here?" I asked in a serious tone."What is the meaning of this? I am with my boyfriend, so what is the problem?" she asked."Do not dodge the question, Sonia; what are you doing here?" I repeate

CHAPTER 74Diego I quickly exited the bathroom and found Sonia waiting for me at the door. Since I was not in the mood for her drama, I asked her to open the door, but she remained hesitant. I immediately called Grace, who came to open the door for me. Sonia was so disappointed that she almost scolded Grace, but I intervened quickly. Just as I was about to go downstairs, I ran into my uncle. "Diego, where are you going right now?" he inquired, his curiosity evident.'What should I say now?' I asked myself while I was still thinking up my cock and bull story."Nowhere important, just taking some files to the airport," I lied and dashed out.I walked out and got into my car; I knew my uncle would be following me, so I drove to the airport and asked my cab driver to wait for me at the back door. I walked in and quickly changed into the clothes I had purchased before instructing the professional actor I hired to simply keep driving my car around and distracting the person stalking me. I

I am not saying she should give him a chance or anything. I am just glad that child is with its father; you know what it is like to be without a father's love," Neina told Charlotte, while I laughed at them."Look, Serene, if I were you, I would hold that... I don't even know what to call him," Charlotte said, causing us all to laugh."Okay, ladies, when should I expect your visit?" I asked."So

There is no way I would let my son hear what we were talking about, let alone learn how much I dislike his father. Diego inquired, running his hands through Miguel's hair."Uhuh, I… I just had a nightmare," he said."Oh, we are so sorry; trust me, that will not happen again; we will sleep right here next to you," Diego said, while I gave him a fierce look that Miguel did not notice.“No, you can go while I—”“Mommy, where's Daddy going?” Miguel cut me off, and I quickly realized I was about to hint at something bad."To the kitchen for some milk, sweetie, but what are you thinking?" I arrived home and discovered that it was already 4 a.m. So all I had to do was rest for two hours before heading to work, so I got busy.I entered my room and quickly locked the door because I did not want any surprises, especially from Sonia, who was struggling to accept that what had happened to us could no longer continue. That was back when I was a jerk, but now I have learned my lesson. I took off my clothes and went to take a cold shower before bed. As I fell deeper into my sleep, I began

Now my phone is broken."“Wait, who are we talking about here?" I asked."Trust me, I will make Serene's cousin pay for this."“Charlotte was here?" Come on, I barely knew him," she said."Okay, if you say so," I said, preparing to put a handful of popcorn into my mouth when someone grabbed my hand."This is not what you should be feeding Serene.” Grace remarked before adding, "I need those ladies strong and healthy," and I immediately returned the popcorn and took an apple from the bowl next to me."Pregnancy certainly leads folks to miss out on a lot," Charlotte joked as she ate the popcorn alone.“Oh really? I told him that was risky since Max is not a man you can go see without support, but Kyrell was adamant. I was starting to question my decision to include him in this investigation because I did not want to lose him.“Mommy, does Uncle Kyrell know Daddy?" Miguel asked as he walked towards my desk.“Yes sweetie, they used to be best friends," I responded.“Are they not anymore?" “Uhmm, I don't know, for now, sweetie. Uncle Kyrell was away for a long time." “OK, what made him go away?" Miguel asked."It is school, honey, and he wanted to follow his goals in Colombia; what about you? Where will I send you?" I asked though I knew the response already."Wakanda!” he responded, trying to climb on my desk."Be careful, sweetheart, you could fall," I advised, but he kept trying until he slipped and was ready to

CHAPTER 209Nelly Sofia and Sandra appeared to be about to start one of their loud disputes again, and I was not in the mood to entertain anything, so I walked to the pool, where I could not hear anything from inside. My mind was still refusing to understand that Kyrell Harrison insulted us without hesitation and that this was unlike anything we would ever experience. Maybe this could be something from his past I could use but no!Everything about that bastard is white as snow with no dark spots on it. If only I had succeeded in getting him to bed back then, I could simply integrate Sofia into his world and get him to join our blasted squad.“Hey, what's going on in that mind?" Max asked, handing me some wine."Hey, it is nothing. I am just thinking about something, but it is not important," I responded, accepting the glass.“Are you sure? Everyone left and I was now only left with Rina and Kyrell. "I guess we should get going now," I replied, standing up and about to walk away when Kyrell reached for my hand.Perhaps he meant it reassuringly, so I smiled without overreacting. Rina stepped behind us, clearing her throat, but I was convinced she was mocking me. “Uhmm, Ms. Brights, can we have a word?" Charlotte asked and I turned around to hear what she had to say."I think it is about time I go to my apartment," she remarked, and I truly wanted to disagree, but I had to since I was only going to let her go there when she felt stable.“Are you sure?” I asked."Yes, I am ready," she said, but it was not convincing enough."Look you can go but are you sure you are fine to stay alone?’” I asked again and she assured me.“OK fine," I re

I figured he must have come to relieve some of his tension and make the contributions. However, everything fell apart as we locked eyes."Kyrell Harrison," I grinned as I approached him, Sofia following."Nelly Mendoza, what a surprise; I knew you were here but did not expect to see you," he remarked, his gaze fixed on Sofia, and I prayed he did not suspect anything. “Oh, come now, Kyrell. We just happened to run into each other at the same moment. Isn't it a great coincidence?" The other prisoner kept yelling, but my companion quickly pulled me back."Be cautious, he has killed roughly ten people here; being targeted by him could only mean one thing," he continued, and I needed to know what brought that elephant figure to me."That your enemies want you dead in here, and nobody else performs the job better than him," my pal cautioned, and I could tell by looking at him that death was all he had to offer.Could Serene want me dead?
