CHAPTER 38

Serene

Miguel now refuses to go to Australia with Mia, which makes me very concerned. He did not feel secure leaving me alone, and I could not help but cry in his presence. The next morning, I awoke and immediately prepared breakfast for everyone because I had no plans to go to work. When I was finished, I went to Miguel's room and asked him to clean his teeth before going for breakfast. He stared at himself in the bathroom mirror and inquired, "Mommy, do I resemble my daddy?" My heart skipped a beat since I had not anticipated him to say that.

"Mommy," he murmured, turning to face me when he realized I was not replying.

"Umm, sure, honey, you look just like him," I replied, looking aside as I struggled to hold back the tears.

"OK, I will go get my food now," he responded, running downstairs as Mia called out for him.

"Be careful, Miguel," I whispered as he hurried out.

I hurriedly washed my face with water and glanced into the mirror. My heart was beating faster and my ey

CHAPTER 39Diego So far, the day is going well, but I haven't started my search. If George had not told my uncle I was coming, I would have spent the entire time at a hotel plotting how I was going to find Serene. I now have to pass by the KATARAYO Agency only to make it appear that I am here for business; my uncle finding out about Serene and the child would endanger their lives. As the evening neared, I prepared and left for KATARAYO AGENCIES’. Their guard led me inside the boarding room, where I found everyone except one individual. They were the biggest investor; they were supposed to welcome me but could not make it owing to other commitments."Mr. Myers, please excuse us for the inconvenience," the supervisor apologized."It is okay, Mr. Simon," I said, pretending to grin."Uhm, Mr. Myers, will you be staying here for long?” A lady dressed in blue inquired."I truly can not say madam, but if your boss would want to meet with me, please let her know; I want to conduct business w

CHAPTER 40Serene Going to welcome Diego would be the biggest mistake I could make; why on earth would I want him to know who I am so easily? I am not sure what Rina told them about my reason for not coming, but I instructed her to sort it out for herself. I spoke with Neina, and she advised me not to panic. I mean, how could I forget that I have become more powerful and successful than Diego in such a short period? I do not even need to send my son to Australia with his nanny; I have enough resources to protect him and myself, and Diego will never get to meet my child if I want.Different things were racing through my mind when I received a call from Neina, who verified that Diego had come for his child rather than for business. My heart skipped a beat, but I was not as afraid since I could not afford to lose myself to terror. I am not sure if it was the fear of meeting Diego or falling for him again that haunted me. Given that I had adequate protection, it became evident that the f

Diego I am not sure why KATARAYO's major stakeholder is not even interested in signing me to the agreement. I realize that they have done their homework on me, but my past is not intended to influence my future in business. Serene would always be the one to persuade people in situations like this, but now I am stranded again. I even doubt they were busy; they most likely made up an excuse to avoid me. When I arrived home from the motel, I went directly to my room and napped. After a few hours, my door opened, and Grace entered with a plate of food. "Diego, you did not touch anything; is everything okay?" She inquired, her expression troubled."Umm, sure, I am all right, just a bit fatigued.""Okay, how did the meeting go?" She asked."It went bad; KATATARYO's major investor did not want to see me; I am not sure why.""Oh, I see, everything happens for a purpose; now, take your meal and make sure I do not find it when I return for the tray," Grace remarked as she set the food on the

Serene I was going to spend the day at the park with Mia and Miguel, but Rina informed me that we would have a very important meeting at 8 a.m. I am not sure how I will explain this to my son, and even if he understands, I know he would still want me to be there with him. As usual, I awoke the next morning and prepared breakfast. I did not want anything to go missing when they went to the park, so I packed additional food in their backpacks. When I was finished, I hurriedly rushed to take a shower and put on makeup. After Miguel was born, I tried everything I could to be the supermom I would always want to be. Since rare beauty has always been my favorite, I have made it a point to wear it on all occasions since it makes my face appear just as I want it to. I was not sure about wearing a dress, so I grabbed my purple two-piece suit and matching heels. When I glanced at myself in the mirror, everything seemed beautiful. I curled my hair and quickly made sure my bed was properly plac

Fortunately, it was long enough to hide my clothes, and I then requested her to give me her shoes because I did not want heels as they would draw attention. I took her shoes and then put some money into her account before leaving. To my amazement, Diego was on the phone near the exit, while Rina was lovingly smiling at him from the table, although he had his back to her. "I will get you later," I murmured, staring at Rina with anger. Since I was wearing a veil, she did not notice or pay attention to me. I stepped closer to the exit, where Diego was standing. I moved closer, then paused to take a deep breath before stepping passed him.My dread must have gotten the best of me, as I shook his shoulder. He instantly turned back to apologize, but I kept my face down and moved quicker this time. "Excuse me, madam," he said, bu

CHAPTER 44Diego I just got back home after looking for Serene. I expected Rina's employer to see me, but she did not show up. I was so upset that I could not help but wonder what I had done to deserve so much disappointment. After Rina had departed, I was going to hand over my blazer to the driver when I smelt Serene's perfume on it. I initially thought I was overthinking it, so I asked the driver to smell it as well, and he verified that it was of a lady. I was perplexed since I could not recall ever being with another lady other than Rina. I raced through my thoughts again and remembered the mysterious woman in a black coat; she was the only one who approached my shoulder. Could she possibly be Serene?I immediately requested that the hotel management show me the CCTV footage, and I could not believe what I was witnessing. The woman was sitting at the table Rina and I took, but she abruptly moved to the bar and was beneath the bartender's desk when I arrived. I watched her go out

But as she made to move toward the bed, I stood up and walked toward the door."Where are you going?" she inquired. I turned and showed her the keys before opening the door to go away as she cursed.I can not be the same Diego as before. I need to make a positive adjustment and set a good example for my son so that he does not break his wife as I did. I went downstairs and saw my uncle getting chastised by Grace for allowing Sonia into my room. "Oh, there he is, Diego; how did it go?" my uncle said, assuming I had touched Sonia, but she returned downstairs, blaming me for failing her. "You are such a catastrophe; how dare you leave me hanging like that?" she said, attempting to arrange the garment about herself."What? I said."OK, I will be downstairs in a minute," she said, walking out of my room.I got out of bed, gently shut the door, and proceeded to take a shower. When I finished, I stepped out and hurriedly changed before going downstairs. I was drinking my coffee when Sonia stepped in. Seeing her made me wish I had rented a hotel instead. She was returning to make sure I got her into bed or something. "Good morning, honey. I thought you had already left," she said, taking a seat on the sofa across from me."No, do you need anything?" I asked."No, I don't need anything; maybe just a bit of you, Diego. It has been years, and I honestly feared you would never come

I knew things might either go well or poorly, despite Kyrell's protests. The address she provided me was an abandoned warehouse outside of London where many criminals would hide from the police. It had rusty timbers and smashed window frames, and the stench of unclean water and rot permeated the air, indicating that many secrets and dead were likely buried inside. My footfall reverberated as I walked with one hand on top of my bump. Pete moved behind me, lurking near the holster beneath his coat. While Kyrell and the other guys guarded the exits.I entered the room, where Charlotte was clothed in gray from head to toe. I could see her luggage in a corner. I could also smell the gasoline from a tiny bottle beside her.“Did you come alone as I asked?"
