Zina's POV
---
Nine months had passed since that fateful night. I was back in Italy, my stomach heavy with the child Tyson and I had created. Each day, I woke up hoping for some news about him, but all I got was silence. Tyson had vanished, and no one could tell me where he was—or if he was even alive.
Now, here I was, in the labor room. My body ached, and my heart was heavier than ever. After that night with Tyson, I discovered I was pregnant. It was the only reason I had the strength to escape from Luther and Ethan’s clutches. This baby, our baby, was my light in the darkness.
Sweat dripped down my face as the contractions grew stronger. I was gripping the edge of the bed when the door burst open.
“Sister Mary?” I gasped, seeing the familiar face of the woman who had sheltered me. She was dressed in her nun’s habit, her expression grim.
She rushed to my side. “Zina, we don’t have much time. Your uncle and cousin have found out where you are. They’re on their way.”
My heart skipped a beat. “What? How did they—”
“There’s no time for questions,” she interrupted, her voice urgent. “We need to get you out of here as soon as possible.”
Panic gripped me, but I forced myself to stay calm. “What about Tyson? Have you heard anything about him?”
Her face fell, and she shook her head. “I’m sorry, Zina. The search crews you hired all reported the same thing… that Tyson died in that fire.”
“No,” I whispered, shaking my head furiously. “That can’t be true. Tyson is alive. If he were gone, I’d feel it in my heart. Why can’t they find his ashes then? Why?”
“Zina…” Sister Mary’s voice was soft as she placed a comforting hand on my shoulder. “You need to prepare yourself for the possibility that he’s gone.”
Tears welled up in my eyes, and I clenched my fists. “No. Tyson is alive. He has to be.”
Before Sister Mary could respond, another wave of pain hit me. I cried out, clutching my stomach.
“It’s happening,” she said, her voice filled with urgency. “You’re going into labor!”
I gritted my teeth, trying to focus on my breathing as Sister Mary called for the doctor. The next hour felt like an eternity, each contraction more unbearable than the last.
“Push, Zina!” the doctor urged.
I clenched my fists and screamed, putting every ounce of strength I had into it. For Tyson. For our baby.
With one final push, the room was filled with the sound of a baby’s cry.
“It’s over,” the doctor said, smiling warmly as they held up the tiny, wriggling bundle.
I was gasping for breath, my body trembling from exhaustion. “Is it… a boy or a girl?” I managed to ask.
Sister Mary stepped forward, her eyes glistening with emotion. “You just gave birth to a beautiful girl, Zina.”
A girl.
Tears streamed down my face as they placed her in my arms. She was perfect, with Tyson’s strong features and my dark hair. I cradled her close, whispering, “You’re my miracle. My hope.”
But even as I held her, the looming threat of Luther and Ethan hung over me like a storm cloud. I would do whatever it took to protect her—no matter what.
I reached out with trembling arms. “Please, Sister Mary, let me hold her.”
She gently placed my daughter in my arms, and as I felt her tiny warmth against my chest, a tear slid down my cheek. I had never felt such a profound mix of love and heartbreak.
“Have you thought of a name for her?” Sister Mary asked softly.
I closed my eyes, imagining what Tyson would want. He always spoke of simple, elegant names. “Ava,” I said finally, my voice breaking. “Her name is Ava.”
Sister Mary smiled. “That’s a beautiful name.”
Before I could reply, a loud bang echoed through the room. My heart leaped into my throat.
“They’re here,” I whispered, my voice trembling.
Sister Mary stood up quickly. “I’ll check the door.”
I held Ava tighter as I listened to the sound of her steps fading toward the entrance. When she returned, her face was pale.
“It’s locked, but it won’t hold them for long,” she said, her voice low but urgent.
I didn’t have much time to think. If Luther found out about Ava, he would use her as leverage—or worse. I had hidden my pregnancy for nine months, but now, with her here, it was impossible to hide anymore.
I looked at Sister Mary, tears streaming down my face. “Take her,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper.
“Zina, no,” she protested. “She’s your child—”
“She’s Tyson’s child,” I cut her off, my voice fierce. “And I can’t let her fall into their hands. Please, Sister Mary, protect her.”
Sister Mary hesitated but nodded. “I’ll do everything I can.”
I kissed Ava’s forehead, letting my tears fall onto her soft skin. “Tyson, I’m sorry,” I whispered. “I know you’d never want this, but I have no choice.”
Removing the wedding ring from my finger, I slipped it onto a delicate chain and placed it around Ava’s tiny neck. “Keep this safe, my love. Someday, I’ll find you again.”
The banging at the door grew louder, more violent.
“Go,” I urged Sister Mary. “Take her out the back. Hurry!”
As Sister Mary disappeared with Ava, I quickly pulled on a plain dress to hide the signs of childbirth. My heart was pounding as the door burst open, and Ethan strolled in, a smug smile on his face.
“Well, well,” he said, his tone dripping with mockery. “You really thought you could run forever, little cousin?”
I stood my ground, clenching my fists. “Leave me alone, Ethan.”
He chuckled, shaking his head. “Now, now. That’s no way to talk to family. Let’s make this simple. You’re coming with me. The easy way or the hard way—you decide."
I glared at him, my resolve steeling. For Ava, I would do whatever it took to keep her safe.
Zina's POV Back at my uncle’s mansion, I couldn’t stop pacing in my room. My heart felt like it was about to burst from my chest. Ava was safe, and that thought gave me some solace, but the weight of everything else crushed me. I hated being here, hated being under Luther’s thumb again. Every corner of this house felt suffocating, and every passing second made me miss Tyson even more.I grabbed my phone and called Naomi. If anyone could bring me some news, it was her.“Zina?” she answered quickly.“Come over,” I whispered, my voice trembling. “I need to see you. Now.”“On my way,” she replied without hesitation. When she arrived an hour later, I let her into my room and locked the door behind her. My paranoia was justified. Luther had spies everywhere, and I couldn’t afford anyone overhearing us.“Did you find anything?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.Naomi’s face was tense, but she reached into her bag and pulled out a folder. “Yes, but we need to keep this quiet,” she sa
Zina's POV I froze hearing the cry of my name, but I jolted back to senses as I jolted swiftly waiting for the greatest surprise of life.“You..why is it you?” I breathed, disappointed with the sight in front of him. It was my cousin, Ethan, and I could only wonder what he was doing in the garden playing hide and seek.“Are you expecting someone else?” He asked with a smug smile, but I just ignored him as I walked away. “Why are you so grumpy? Don't you think that you should treat me, right? I mean, if you want to survive in this house, you have to listen to me pretty.” Ethan says, holding my chin, and I felt disgusted. He always considers himself to be a lord, while I'm just a servant at his mercy.“Get your filthy hands off me! And I don't think I need to get along with you because you are also at the mercy of someone I know.” I said, pushing him off my path, and I heard his cursed.I knew that it wasn't right that I got him angry, but I didn't care. I just need to find a way out of
Zina's POV He led me to the dance floor, and I could feel everyone's eyes on us, but I was too nervous to care. The man in front of me looked familiar, but I would rather not be brazen, I could be wrong. But could I ever not recognize Tyson? Even with a mask on, I knew I wouldn't mistake my Tyson for someone else, but my mind might be playing a trick on me.“Can you dance well?” He asked with amusement evident in his voice. “I can move to tune.” I replied, not buying because that's the least I could do..and maybe stepping on his shoes once in a while.“That's okay.” He replied smugly, his mask concealing his expressions well. The music begins, and we started moving to the tune, but I noticed the man's actions became brazen. He was holding on to me like he was trying to get warmth from me. He kissed my ear lobe as we moved to the music, and I only managed to stiff a moan that wanted to escape my mouth. That would have been embarrassing.“Don't you think you are doing too much, mister.
Tyson's POV I walked angrily to my car, not minding my men who were bowing to me, and I threw the mask that I put on. I was fuming in anger.“What? Did she not recognize me? I knew so much time had passed, but I never for once, forgot about her, not even a single detail!” I screamed, and I punched the car seat so badly. After I let out my anger, the door to the car opened, and Victor, my second in command, walked in. “Are you okay, boss?” He asked, and I scoffed. He knew about the history between Zina and me, and also my burning hatred for the Blackwood family, so there were no secrets from him.“I met her.” I said. He looked shocked after my words, but he masked it immediately. “Oh, but why are you not with her? I mean, you yearned for her all these while and..” he was saying, but I cut him off.“How can I bring her when she doesn't want me?” I said, but I knew the emotions I saw in her eyes were different from the reports I had been receiving.“Oh, so what next?” He asked. “We wait,
Zina's POV “Pah!” The sound of a slap rang through my room, and I held my cheek in shock not believing that my uncle just slapped me..it wasn't like he didn't do it before, but I didn't know what I did to warrant that.“Ahh! What have I done, uncle!” I screamed, but his glare shook me up. “You really have the nerve to ask that after going off the grid with a strange man abandoning the party.” He said.“I'm sorry, I didn't mean to leave the party, but I wasn't feeling too well, so I had to leave, and I didn't leave with a man to clear your allegations.” I said through gritted teeth, and my uncle burst into laughter hearing my words.“Who gave you the right to call the shot? Even if you are about to drop dead, you still have to ask me before you leave!” He roared.“Why should I do that? I'm an adult, and it's my life, so I don't need you controlling everything.” I argued, but I bit back my words when I saw him get closer to me with a cold glare. “Looks like you are forgetting something
Zina's POV “Hi Zina!” The man who just entered the room smiled back at me, but I just scoffed. I couldn't believe that I was seeing him in that kind of place after so many years.“What's it, Mr. Williams? Did you know Miss Blackwood?” One of the investors asked, and he nodded his head. “Yes, Zina and I had history,” he replied, and I gagged in disgust. The man who just walked in was Craig Williams, one of my friends from college, but rather than a friend he was more of a stalker. He made my college days hell with his actions, but I wouldn't remember that to block unpleasant memories.“What history? I wouldn't want to say that, so I wouldn't give people the wrong idea.” I fired back, but instead of being offended he just smiled. He took a seat beside me, and leaned closer, but I shifted away. “Looks like Miss Blackwood isn't really fond of Mr. Williams, but can we move to the agenda today?” One of the investors, Mr. Nathaniel, hushed.“Thank you gentlemen, I will begin my presentation
Tyson's POV I looked out the window as the car moved towards the busy street, and I heaved a sigh of frustration when the car got stuck in traffic.“Sorry, buss, we will make sure to navigate..” Victor apologized, but I cut him off.“What are you going to do? Just leave it, I can stay a few minutes in the traffic.” I mumbled, and looked out the window again. It was a bright afternoon, and for some reason it brought back some memories I left sealed in the deepest part of my heart. The memory of how I met Zina.It was a bright afternoon that day, and I was running late for deliveries, but bumped into her, who looked like she was running away from someone.“Watch where you are going young Miss!” I berated after picking up the deliveries from the ground, and placed them back on the bike, but a soft voice halted my actions.“Please, save me!” She begged, and when I looked at her, I saw the most beautiful woman ever, but with tears in her eyes, and that ticked something off in me.I didn't
Zina's POV I went to the convenience store to get some things for my daughter, but not after dismissing Craig and his nonsense talk. How could I agree to anything he said, when I knew the monster he was.“I will be a fool to even think of having anything to do with him.” I muffled as I dropped things Ava, my daughter, likes in the shopping basket, but I felt a gaze on me like I felt earlier while in front of the restaurant. It was like someone was keeping their eyes on me, but whenever I turned I found nothing, so I ruled as just being paranoid. Maybe the thought of Tyson in the country got me on edge.“I should just leave..” I slurred.I felt a sharp instinct that someone was behind me, and it wasn't like earlier, this time it felt so close like the person was breathing the same air as me.“Zina!” I heard, but when I turned I saw one of my co-workers at work, and a man in a hoodie rushing out of the convenience store, and I knew that was my cue to follow the man.It could be Tyson.
Tyson's POV I watched the sunrise, with a melancholy look, and I couldn't help but remember Zina and I promised each other a bank then.“I love you so much, and I don't think I will ever survive without you.” Zina giggled snuggling into my embrace.“Hmm me too,” I said gently because I was always a person of little words, but with Zina's there was no room for such.“What's that? Did you mean I'm the only love sick here, don't you love me too?” She asked.“No, that's not it. I also love you so much, I want you to be the person that I wake up, and watch the sunrise with.” I said with a shy smile, and she smiled as she kissed me.“I'm going to cherish you forever, Tyson.” She vowed, as her laughter rang through the old studio, and that alone filled my heart.“That liar, how could she lie so boldly, and what life did she abandon me for? She couldn't even enjoy that,” I mumbled, and walked out of the balcony having had enough of the view.I didn't get enough sleep last night after Zina's
Zina's POV I was beyond appalled by what I just heard. I knew my uncle was desperate, but I didn't know he would stop so low to take matters into his hands, and not trust me with it.“How could he do that!” I mumbled under my breath, but I was conscious when I saw Tyson's eyes on me. I looked away immediately not wanting to get trapped in his beautiful eyes. What he said outside was lingering on my mind. I wouldn't lie I was considering it, but wasn't planning to take it.“Why will I deal with such a dangerous man?” I mumbled, but people's gossip was irritating as they didn't mind hiding their displeasure.“The Blackwood are something seeing how they are clinching on that poor guy!” They all gossiped loudly. After the announcement my uncle left the hall, and I knew that was my cue to ask questions, and to also escape Tyson’s watchful gaze. I followed my uncle to question him about his actions, but I stumbled over him, and Ethan arguing.“Why are you doing this, Dad? It makes us look
Tyson's POV Everyone looked at me surprised after the outburst, but he wasn't having it. He clearly was trying to set Zina up with me, but the fact that it was the same man, who deemed unworthy years ago. How could anyone be so two-faced?“Did I say something wrong?” He asked.“No, I just wondered if you really think that you are a good judge of character.” I breathed.I looked at Luther wondering if he even knew what he was getting into with me. I knew that he was a cunning man, but he was more creative than I thought.“What are you saying, Mr. Reed?” He asked, and I composed myself. I tried not to act rash because I almost lost myself hearing his belittling words, but I mustn't let him caught up on my identity. “Nothing, I think I should_” I was saying, but trailed off as Luther’s assistant walked to him, and whispered something in his ear.I smirked knowing what disaster I just rolled out for him there was no way that wouldn't shake the Blackwood corporation.“What are you sayin
Zina's POV Tyson's collaboration with my company was broadcasted on all broadcasting houses, which was solely sponsored by my uncle. That was his way to show people that the Blackwood group was still as strong as ever.“And the rollercoaster begins again.” I breathed, staring at the mirror as I dabbed my face with little makeup. I had to attend the banquet which was held to commemorate the partnership, but I didn't want to go because after my deal with my uncle I felt guilty towards Tyson. Not only did he get fooled by me years ago, I still would fool him this time around again.“Yes, I'm such a horrible person.” I huffed, and I hurried because the banquet starts soon. The banquet would be held in the mansion, and board members and business associates were all going to be in attendance. I knew that it was because they were all curious about who had the new money in town. They all just wanted to submit their proposal, and see if the new money in town has money to purge.“Zina, are you
Zina's POVI breathed a sigh of relief as I watched Tyson walk out of the company, and I knew I got lucky this time around, I wouldn't be lucky another time.“That was so close!” I breathed.“What was so close?” Someone whispered in my ears, and I jolted in fear. “Oh my goodness, Carolina! You scared me!” I complained, glaring at my friend.“Whatever, so about earlier, I don't know when I had a baby? Does this mean Anna is mine, and I can have her now?” She asked, and I eyed her angrily.“I'm sorry, Carolina, but I was just in a pickle.” I apologized. “And stop saying nonsense, you know I said that because of Tyson. Unfortunately for me, I bumped into Tyson while I went out with Anna this morning, and he asked me whose daughter she is, so I had to lie,” I explained.“Oh, so you mean I'm the best person who fits that criteria?” She asked, and I shook my head.“But why are you hiding her, though? I mean Tyson looks more capable to get you, and Anna out of your uncle's grip,” she said.“
Tyson's POV I watched as the two women exchanged looks, and I chuckled at the naivety. How could they be bad at lying?“Yes, Carolina. Remember you asked me to pick up your daughter.” I watched Zina say nervously, and her blond friend nodded her head.“Yes, I think I asked you to do that. My daughter is quite adorable, but I couldn't feed her breakfast this morning, so I asked..” the blond girl said after catching up on the act, but I interrupted her.“Breakfast? Didn't she sleep at Zina's?” I asked, and Zina looked like she was a step away from crying.“Yes, I mean, I missed giving her breakfast because she slept at her aunt Zina's house. My darling daughter must have missed me. I should go call her.” She said, rushing off, leaving Zina alone with me.“So your friend is married, but I didn't see a ring on her finger.” I taunted.“Not everyone needs a ring to be married or an elaborate wedding to stay married, as long as you love the person you picked, but sometimes you might be wron
Zina's POV I smiled awkwardly as I stared at Tyson, who was prying to see who I was hiding behind her, but I couldn't let that happen.“Hello, Mr. Reed, nice running into you.” I flushed.“You didn't run into me, but I came here to meet you, so can you answer my questions now?” He asked, and I nodded my head.I cracked my head on what you said, but I knew there was no way I would admit that Anna was our child together.“She is Carolina's daughter, you know her, right?” I said, still hiding her behind me.Carolina, I apologize, but I really need to save myself, I mulled in my head, but I noticed that Tyson didn't buy the story.“Really? Then where is that Carolina?” He asked, and I bit my lips knowing that he would find it suspicious that I was babysitting my friend's daughter so early in the morning.“That's because she slept at my place last night.” I blurted.I was so stunned at how smooth my lies were, but I wasn't planning to back down. While I was looking for Tyson, I thought he
Zina's POVTyson dragged me to the bar entrance, but I tried to get back in because I was scared that the man might be really dead. What if he got locked?“Are you crazy? We should go back in to check if he is alive?” I said, but he hissed in frustration.“Are you kidding me, right now? I just saved you, and you wanted to give back in?” He asked. “Yes, I just can't leave a man to bleed to death! I have to help him.”“You have to help him? Did I misunderstand the situation?” He blurted.“What did you mean?” I asked.“Maybe the man wasn't harassing you after all. What are you now? A slut that sells her body after..” Tyson said, but I cut him off with a slap.“What? A slut? You have really lost your mind? How dare you…you should know that I'm not that kind of person, but what do I know, you aren't the Tyson I knew.” I heaved.“And so? Are you also the Zina I knew? Definitely not because you are just a pathetic liar? Everything about you was a lie!” He screamed, and I saw hurt in his eyes
Zina's POV I was dragged to the bar after a long day at work by Carolina, even though I wanted to back out, but she didn't take a no for an answer.“I don't understand why we have to be here when we have to go back to work early tomorrow.” I said as I took a seat, not without the drunk men gawking at my friend, and I.“That's the point girl, you need to have a hangover so you don't get hung over at work.” She said with a wink, and I shook my head at her crazy utterance. We ordered drinks, and not long enough we were drowning ourselves in liquor, but I made sure to drink little because my uncle would flip if I missed work because of a hangover.“So, tell me, how do you feel seeing Tyson again?” Carolina asked.I paused with her question, but I quickly masked my expression. “Nothing, it was great seeing him again.” I lied. When I saw him after a long time, I thought my heart was going to burst because of excitement, and I was scared too. Scared that my uncle was going to tear him apart
