The words made Jayden feel cold.

If that was what was wrong with Elliott, then he could be the one Elliott had come back for, and Elliott would not rest until he had taken his revenge.

Why had Elliott not killed him or his stepfather when he had the full chance to during the two duels, and if the past Alpha William Robin thought that Elliott was bound to choose the evilest option?

Jayden mentally put himself in Elliott's shoes.

If he were to usurp his stepfather as Alpha, why would he not kill him during a duel?

The answer was there, glaring at him.

Had Elliott killed the immediate past Alpha, the Alpha would have died a hero and made Elliott a villain to the pack, and brought even more respect to himself after his death. Elliott had spared him so that he would remain alive and lose the respect of the pack while making cowardly plans to get his position back, just like he did now.

He had also spared Jayden's stepfather to dominate him and keep him as a servant. It would have served n

Jayden's uncertainty about what his cousin intended to do kept him up at night. He knew that he was partially the reason for whatever Elliott had turned to. The truth was that Alisa had never wanted Elliott and had just seen him as a friend, but he had gone on and fallen deeply in love with her. And when she fell in love with him, she had to cast Elliott away and tell him the truth— that she did not love him.But the heart that loves would never see it that way.He knew from the time that he spoke to Elliott in the prison and read his mind, that Elliott thought Jayden had taken Alisa away from him and left him heartbroken. In his head, it was all Jayden's fault, for coming over and wielding enough influence to take her from him, even though the truth was that Alisa had just fallen in love with him.Jayden wondered if the evil that now dominated Elliott's heart was going to kill his love for her. He could use Elliott's love for Alisa to try to make him see reason and understand that Al

She saw him leaving her life and she felt helpless to do anything about it.All that glittered truly wasn't gold. She had seen the sparks and flashes and let them draw her nearer, only for her to know it was glass and not gold, only after a piece was brutally stuck in her chest. Her heart hurt with the worst kind of pain, a kind of pain she could not explain, and she put her hand to her chest and fell to her knees as though she had submitted herself to the pain.He had left her when all she had ever done was love him.She should have known that it was all just a contract and stuck with it, but her stupid heart had gone on and fallen in love and let herself be taken by him when all they had been together for was his baby.A wind blew and a few petals of the flowers he had gotten her came in front of her. She picked one up and stared at it blankly, wondering if she was dreaming. If she was, more than anything she wanted to wake up and be told it was just a dream and she was fine and tha

"You're going to be a father, Jayden."His phone slipped from his hand and fell on the floor, and for a minute he bore no feeling, emotion, or consciousness. He just knew that he existed. He came back to his senses, picked the phone back up and heard Alisa's voice again."You say I am going to be a father?""You heard me.""Where are you?" "I'm at a pharmacy, trying to get some abortion pills.""Trying to get some what???" Jayden yelled. He almost didn't believe his ears. Why was she trying to abort his baby? Their baby."I know you heard me. And I will not carry your baby. I'm going to abort the pregnancy.""You can't do this Alisa—" She ended the call on him and his brain went into panic mode, trying to think of the next step to take. He picked up his phone and dialled her once again, but she refused to pick up the call. He then decided to track her phone, but every second felt like a year to him. Time seemed slow at the moment. He left his office and got into the elevator, but he

In battles, no one talks about the soldiers you lost or the battle scars you carry, and everyone talks about the wars you did not win, no matter how many you have won.The thought lingered in Jayden's head as he drove with Alisa next to him in the passenger's seat. He had met her and done more for her than he had ever done for anyone in his life, but she hated him for one slip. One thing he had done to protect both of them.He looked at Alisa's hand and saw that she carried a different phone in it. It was not the one he had gotten for her."What happened to your phone?" He questioned, curiosity getting the better of him."I sold it." She answered bluntly without looking at him.Jayden's heart broke. He did not need any more answers. She had done it to try to forget him and to act as though he had never been in her life at all. He turned back and concentrated on his driving, but his heart felt heavy, as though a piece of lead hung inside of it."Why can't you just tell me your secrets

Alisa's basic instinct was to turn and run, but she was in the water, and this majestic wolf was looking at her.Nothing had changed about it. It was still the same one that she saw the day she was in the pond. The same one that had watched her and filled her with fear before turning around and going into those bushes. The wolf let out a gust of air through its nostrils, and put its paw into the water as if to let Alisa know it was harmless. She blinked and let her curiosity overshadow every other feeling: her anger at Jayden, her want to abort the child she was carrying, her sadness and heartbreak. She put all of that aside and touched the paw. It was large in her hand, but the underside felt soft and the rest of it was furry. She looked at the wolf once again and it blinked."Can you talk to me?" Alisa asked after a while, the time the pause lasted spent her thinking of what question to ask.The wolf shook its head rapidly, and its ears flapped against the sides of its head, makin

They both moved to a rock that sat on the edge of the pond and sat on it, dunking their feet in the water in silence.Alisa was thinking of which question to ask first. Before that morning, she would have regarded anyone telling her that there were men who could turn into wolves either as crazy or obsessed with Stephenie Meyer's Twilight. But one sat next to her here, even though she had once mentally compared him to Edward. He was a werewolf and had morphed right in front of her.Maybe she could begin from there."Where do you originate from? Where do you come from?" Alisa asked, breaking through the silence."Well... You deserve to know everything since you carry a wolf cub inside you right now." Jayden said with a smile. "How much do you know about Ancient Rome.""Caesar and nothing else."Jayden laughed. He would not have given a care about Ancient Rome if it was not tied to his origins."No. That was way before Caesar. Caesar was only one of the people who made Rome a world power

The silence came once again as they sat quietly, each one wishing to say more than they already had to the other. The chirping birds were flying home, the deer had gone, and the nighttime in the woods came alive. The chirping now came from the crickets, a fox came for a drink, and the darkness covered everything.Alisa leaned closer to Jayden without touching him. He made her feel safe."Are there any similarities between you and real wolves?""Yes. We can smell and hear things from a mile away even when we are in a human form. We also have our packs in the order I explained to you, and we love to hunt.""You really can?""Yes. I hear people whisper and it is amusing. Unfortunately, I can smell the dirty ones too."Her giggle pierced through the night."What can you hear right now?'"They both paused while Jayden listened, his wolf hearing picking up every sound it could."A soft wind is blowing through the trees because I can hear them rustle, and elsewhere I can hear an animal I don

Jayden cast his mind back to the horrid night when it all started. The night that changed all the pack had come to know. The night when the loud howl changed their lives.Yes. The loud howl."Do you remember hearing an extremely loud howl? A howl that sounded like it was made by a large wolf? On the night you left my house?"Alisa was confused at first. And then she remembered it.That unusually loud howl."Yes. I remember it. It was so loud that I was distracted for a moment. Was that the Alpha's howl?""Yes, it was," Jayden answered quietly."Wow. Your stepfather must have a very loud howl then.""That was not my stepfather. My stepfather was the Alpha, but he only leads the pack now.""Who is the Alpha?""That is the problem, Alisa," Jayden said, and she could feel him looking into her eyes. "Elliott is the Alpha."It only served to confuse Alisa. Based on what Jayden had just told her, she thought the Alpha had to be the strongest member of the pack with a big feat attached to his

Elliott Jr., who was now twenty-seven, Melissa and Elliott’s son Felix, whom she had adopted, and her third child. The one born because Elliott had deposited one last child in her before his death. For some reason, she had named him Jayden. The Jayden before him had had a good heart in his life but had let evil control him.So it was that Elliott’s son with Jayden’s name was the King of the Winter and the Spring in the end.The snow stopped when Jayden died, but it was known to fall from time to time, in its own season. Palm Springs City was no longer an all-spring city, but snow fell in it now.Humans were still oblivious to the wolves around them, even though the number

Alisa was close to jumping out of her skin when the cub wolf ran into her room. Its fur was black with streaks of white, but somehow she had recognised her son and was even more stunned to see him in a wolf form.Only...He ran off into the night and she had no choice but to follow, but not after throwing on a wolf skin cloak gifted to her by Elliott even though she had dreaded the wolf meetings. It did not worry her as much as the safety of her son did, so she followed, at least to keep him safe. But he was a wolf and she was a human, so she lost him and ended up wondering why she had followed him in the first place. She needed more protection than he did.He would have gone to the rock, she guessed, and Elliott would be there too. She had to be there, to see what was happening, so on and on she continued until she got to the rocks and saw even more wolves bigger than any she had ever seen at the Palm Springs meetings gathered at the foot of the rocks, all looking up.Atop the rocks,

Elliott ran towards the rocks after he had morphed into his wolf form, rage coursing through his body and pushing him to run faster. He remembered something Melissa had told him long ago when he went to see her in Snowfall one last time. It was about being king. “The King of the Winter and the Spring.” She had said, but now he was not too sure if she had told him the truth. The howl. Another wolf was here to challenge him.He was more powerful than many wolves, Elliott knew, but he did not know another wolf with a howl so loud. And the snow in the distance too. What signs were these? The rocks loomed high in the distance, and Elliott could see the wolf atop. His challenger. The one with the howl. All the snow he had seen in the distance melted before him once his paws touched the ground, and the place was back to looking as though no snow had ever been there at all. Only a slick wetness remained to show.He soon came up the rocks, catching the scents of other wolves from the other sid

Jayden thought he would cry and fall to his knees when he saw Palm Springs City in the distance. The city was covered in darkness, a sheet of inky blue sky hanging above it, with yellow lights coming out of square windows. Behind him was the Moon, and it felt to him like a sign of favour from the Moon Goddess. He stopped at the border and took in a deep breath. For a moment, he doubted. He had returned home for vengeance, so he wondered why he felt the fear.Jayden took in a deep breath before he crossed the border gingerly as if expecting to have the ground swallow him when his paw touched the ground. But nothing happened for a moment and then...The wet loamy brown earth beneath his paw froze and small cracking sounds were made as ice covered the ground. He lifted his paw and there was ice under it. He was the Reincarnation of the long-dead Alpha of Snowfall, and now he had brought the snow with him to the city, a city that had never seen snow. His other paw touched the earth once a

She could feel nothing but him inside her, could hear nothing but the sound of his heart beating for her, could taste nothing but his kisses on her lips, could see nothing that was not his eyes and could smell nothing but his scent. All her senses were connected to him, and only him. His finger brushed against the strands of her blonde hair slowly, smoothening it. “Where have you been, my love?” She heard him say softly, as though she was a pigeon in his hand. “How could you see me and not know me, when I have loved you for so many years and through so many lives? Did you forget me so easily?” For some reason she could not explain, she wanted to cry. “I am sorry.” She whispered in response, not knowing why she was sorry or what she was sorry for. All she knew was that she was sorry. “We have loved each ot

Alisa was watching her son cradle his puppy to his chest and plant gentle kisses on its head. It had grown considerably these past two weeks, and though it was still little, she knew it was going to grow big and strong. And for some reason, the puppy reminded her of Elliott. There was a certain shyness it sometimes showed that reminded her of how he used to act when they were together in school, and a certain playfulness too. Elliott had shown neither of both qualities these past few years, but well...“Can I go out to play, Mummy?” Her son asked, interrupting her thoughts. The sun was setting for the evening, and a mild breeze blew as an orange glow lit up the sky. Fine weather, harmless for her boy. “Don’t stay out for too long.” She warned him, but he was far away before she was done talking, carrying his puppy with him. The house was quiet once Alisa was alone, and it made her sad. She was trying to be a strong woman, but that was exactly where it hurt. She was strong, but she

The farther away the wolves of Snowfall went from the beloved mountain they had lived all their lives on, led by their fiery leader with his unusually large form and bright blue eyes, almost bright enough to cast a blue shade on the floor, the lesser snow they found on the ground until all they saw was green, a new and uncomfortable sight to them as their paws and feet found it unfamiliar. They moved through the night, male and female, Beta, Omega, Luna, and cub, treading through the thick woods to avoid being spotted by humans and spending the daytime in caves or in hiding, taking the time to sleep. Hunts were done by night, with their leader Jayden bringing in the largest game, and for a pack where a man’s measure was by the size of his hunt, they could not entirely see any leader better than him.Yet, there was something sinister about him that they all feared. They had gone to sleep only to be woken by the most evil sound they had ever heard, and when they heard it once again, th

It was so strange that it had to be a dream. It could not be real.He was lying on the floor of whatever place this was, that somehow had form to it like a small cell. It was a strange place; bleak, dark and foreboding, with barely any light in it even though he could see the four corners at the top, and how he could see in it was a miracle to him.Jayden was now sure he was dreaming because this place was as dark as the darkest hour of the night. He tried to get up and that was when he saw the form of Melissa’s body in the darkness, lifeless and far gone, and the memories of the previous night began to come back to him in the dream. He stood frozen with his mouth open and watched her sprawled body and the blood that stained the walls of the cell. Her stomach had been torn open, and her innards were spilling out.“I did that,” Jayden whispered to himself.“We did it.” A voice in his head answered him back in another whisper, and the sound echoed all around him, as though it was spoken

“For five hundred years, those of us in Snowfall have remained under the frozen chains of the curse. While you who live in Palm Springs City are slightly less wolf than we are, with your smaller bodies and more time for your little ones to learn to morph, we remain here in the snow, waiting for the curse to break so that we can get the sunshine our fathers dearly wanted.”“And with one King over you all, a King from Palm Springs City,” Jayden added. His body was relaxed now. There was no enormous power struggling to come from his body. Melissa’s words had calmed him down.“Yes. All we want is the sunshine, and a happy place for our children.”“I will lead you there. I was to be King, wasn’t I?”“You were to be King. But many times, fighting to get what is ours only takes it farther away from us. Don’t you think so?”Jayden said nothing in reply.“Do you remember the first blood you shed, Jayden?”It had been Alisa’s parents. He remembered it clearly.“You like to tell yourself you we
