CHAPTER EIGHTY-TWO: THE TRUTH

“What truth?”

“What happened to Mr and Mrs Grant? You know the truth.”

There was silence. Even the chirping crickets seemed to be waiting to hear what it was.

“Don’t make me do this, Elliott.” Jayden pleaded. “Do something else. But leave that part out.”

“What is he talking about, Jayden?” Alisa asked. She stepped forward, suddenly immune to every feeling of fear she had felt before now, not caring about the wolves that now stood watching. “What skeleton is that?”

“Please, Elliott.” Jayden pleaded once again.

He had thought Elliott was beside him, trying to help him. But he could not pay this price if this price was one to pay. He turned to look at Alisa, at the way her hair hung wildly around her head and wanted to end everything. He had hidden this for long, unwilling to tell her, afraid of losing her. He had never known a truth so scary.

Alisa too was afraid, but she wanted to know the truth as well. This concerned her parents, and hearing Jayden and her parents in the same senten
