Lunaria's POV.

Why did this have to happen now? Just when I thought I had found a way to balance my love for Nathan and my duty to my pack, fate snatched away the one person who had always supported me.

“Why? Why did my father have to go now? It’s only been six years I had spent with him after being away from him for almost two decades.

Meeting him again after he found me was a blessing and had been one of the reasons I could happily start my life all over again even after losing my memories and feeling like life had been snatched away from me.

He had always supported him and he never had a reason to treat me unfairly despite my mother not being alive. He always mentioned it was one of the reasons he would render his life to protect me.

“Has he done that? Is that what he did? Is that why he died? What will I do now? Did the rumors cause him hypertension leading to his death, it didn’t make sense.

My father was a very strong and determined man who wouldn't joke with his health at all b

Nathan’s POV.When I returned from an important meeting some hours later after Lunaria had left, I started to hear more rumors again.“She is still a murderer,” someone said. “How could she do such a thing? I can’t even imagine being close to her. She is a walking enigma.”“I just hope alpha Nathan notices what she is before it is too late.”“Oh dear. Now what would her pack do with him gone?”With who gone? What was going on?My beta ran to me as I entered my palace as he sighed.“We have a big problem,” he said as I nodded.“Yes we do. And it is the pandemic of rumors. I am going to deal with all of those people still spreading rumors about lunaria. At least if I teach a few people some lessons they would learn.”But he shook his head. “Alpha… that should be the least of your concerns.”“What do you mean?” I asked.Seeing his brows knitted in that manner told me something serious had happened and I followed him to my study.“What is it?” I asked as soon as I closed the door behind m

Author’s POV.The Pack House was quiet, the only sounds to be heard were the barely audible mutterings from the elders and the spectators around. They had gathered in a corner of the sunroom, sitting in chairs arranged in a partial circle.Their faces were grave and etched with sadness. The previous Lycan King’s death had created an obvious void throughout not only their world, but now they also faced an important decision regarding what would happen next.It was important that they chose a new successor immediately or it would cause chaos and many outsiders would seek to invade the pack and take over it as they would feel they could handle the pack with no one’s help.Lunaria sat midway across the room with Nathan pressed against her side. She knew he was here providing her comfort, yet she couldn’t feel it like she normally should have been able to. To her other side sat her stepmother Agatha and Lillian her stepsister, both wore expressions of thinly veiled triumph. It was almost l

The idea of his death sat on my chest like an anvil, threatening to break through me.All the talk about the throne, the heirloom, who should lead — it may as well have been in another language or about someone else’s life because I wasn’t even paying attention to anything they said or argued about. How could I think about ruling when I hadn’t even faced his death? My father. Nathan's POV.I walked alongside Liam, trying to distract him from the questions he kept asking about his mother's tears. But no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't shake off the feeling of worry that had been gnawing at me since the meeting.Lunaria was being accused of killing her own father, and it was all because of me. The guilt was suffocating me. I didn't know how to help her, how to prove her innocence."Liam, look! A bird!" I exclaimed, pointing to a nearby tree.Liam's eyes widened, and he took off running towards the tree. I chased after him, laughing, trying to keep up the charade. But as we walked, Liam's questions started again. "Uncle Nathan, why was Mommy crying?"I knelt down beside him, trying to come up with a reasonable explanation. "Sometimes, grown-ups get sad, Liam. It doesn't mean anything is wrong with her. She just needs some time to feel better."Liam looked up at me with big, round eyes. "But why was she sad?"I sighed, feeling helpless. "I don't know, budd

Lunaria's POV.I pulled away from Anthony, apologizing for breaking down in front of him. But he just smiled and said I didn't have to apologize, that I had every right to cry on his shoulders."We always cried on each other's shoulders, didn't we?" he said, his eyes nostalgic and I forced a smile.I nodded, feeling a twinge of sadness. I wished I could remember more of our past, but it was all still a blur.“Should I tell you some more about our childhood to make you feel better?” he asked, his eyes sparkling as he grinned at me.I nodded and sat up to listen to him, wanting to hear anything that would distract me from the pain I had been feeling in my heart since my father passed."Okay. I've got a joke to make you feel better," he said, his voice light and playful as he got ready."Okay, I could use a laugh. Go ahead,” I said, raising an eyebrow, intrigued.Anthony cleared his throat as he said."Why did the scarecrow win an award?". "I don't know, why?"I shook my head, playing a

Lunaria's POV.I stood up, my heart racing as I watched Nathan turn to leave. I felt a pang of fear, unsure of how to explain the situation to him. I hadn't expected him to see that before I told Anthony how I felt about him so I was afraid that Nathan might jump to a conclusion and I feared what might happen to our relationship after now."Anthony, I need to talk to you," I said, turning to face him, angry at him for kissing me."What is it, Lunaria?" Anthony asked, his expression intense.I took a deep breath, trying to gather my thoughts. I was angry and wanted to lash at him and say words that would hurt him but then I knew I had to keep it cool. Even though he acted out of character, he was a friend from my childhood. I didn't want our friendship to go sour."Whatever we had in the past, it's just that - in the past. I don't even remember it, Anthony. And even if I did, it wouldn't change the fact that I'm with Nathan now,” I declared boldly looking at him to let him know how ser

Author’s POV. Lunaria's hands trembled as Mendy helped her into the wedding attire and packed her hair in a bun. Just as Mendy stepped back to admire her handiwork, a soft knock at the door interrupted the moment. Mendy smiled and moved to answer it, she opened the door to find a young servant holding a small elegant envelope. "For the bride," the servant said, bowing slightly. “Thank you.” Came Mendy’s voice as she closed the door and walked over to Lunaria to hand her the envelope. Lunaria's heart skipped a beat as she took the envelope, her fingers tracing the seal. She recognized the symbol – Nathan's family crest. A gentle smile spread across her face as she opened the envelope and withdrew the letter inside. The poem, written in Nathan's own hand, spoke of his love for Lunaria, of the journey they had shared, and of the promises he made to her. It spoke of the moon goddess's blessing, of the love that had grown between them, and of the future they would build together. T

I hadn't thought about how she would feel, being forced to serve me after everything that had happened."Lillian, I..." I started to say, but she cut me off."I would rather not be alive at all than be a slave," she said, her voice firm. And with that, she grabbed a sharp object from the nearest shoulder and pierced herself.I screamed, shocked by her action. Mendy rushed to her side, trying to stop the bleeding."L

Author’s POV.After everyone had disappeared for the day, leaving me, the elders, my stepmother, and my sister. They marched onto the throne room to confront me but I stood tall, my voice firm as I addressed Agatha.“Was it Sarah that gave you the Heirloom?” Agatha asked me."No, Sarah did not betray us, Agatha. Anthony found the real heirloom and exchanged it with the fake one."Nathan's face was still twisted in rage when he walked in and saw Agatha interrogating me, but as I waved at him to indicate that I was okay, I could see the tension in his body begin to ease. I turned to him, placing a calming hand on his arm as he came to stand beside me."Nathan, it's okay. The truth is out now."I turned back to Agatha, my eyes narrowing."Since everything is clear now, I will decide the fate of all the offenders." I moved to the throne, my voice ringing out across the room."According to our law, Agatha, you would be killed for your crimes. And Lillian, you would be reduced to a maid."T

Killing her mother wasn't enough, she had the guts to kill her own husband for her daughter and she was okay with it.Nathan stepped forward, placing a calming hand on Lunaria's shoulder."It's okay, Lunaria. It's going to be alright. I am here for you, it's going to be alright,” Nathan assured.Lunaria took a deep breath, trying to calm down. But nothing did. She stood up, wondering if she had done something wrong, and sat down again. Still, nothing happened. The heirloom remained dull and lifeless on her neck, refusing to shine.Lunaria was then called forward. She walked calmly to the throne and sat down.
