Deciding to end it all, I rose to my feet, grabbing hold of the handle of the already opened window. With great difficulty, I lifted myself from the floor to the window. My hand still clutching the handle tightly, I stared down. Unable to see the ground, I realized that indeed Lucas wasn’t joking when he said he specially chose the 20th floor.

“Men are scum,” I cried. My voice, my cries, my shaky hands and my messed up self seemed nothing like me. I felt pathetic and unworthy to be called a Mills. Newfound determination suddenly shoots through me.

“Fine, I’d rather end it here to save my family the pain and embarrassment of having a daughter like me.”

Eyes shut, right foot pushed forward, I let go of the handle and let myself fall.
