She looked away from him to stare at her baring phone, moving over to grab it. She groaned at the caller ID before swiping on the green button.

“If you’re calling to ask why I’m late, Maya, then please end the call. I’ll be arriving soon,” she snapped at the person on the other line.

“That’s not it, boss. There is a problem.”

Anna straightened, suddenly interested in whatever it was that May was about saying. “A problem? What problem?”

“There is a huge problem, boss. Your mother… she..”

“She’s what?”

“She’s causing trouble for everyone here. The police are here too.”

At the mention of the police, Anna’s eyes grew wide. What had her stepmother done to require the police's attention?

“There is a problem at work.”
