Margot froze. She suppressed her surprise and tried to maintain a calm demeanor. She even managed to smile a little. "Mr. Moore, are you ... trying to flirt with me?"

Her reaction was typical of an average woman. It made it seem neither abrupt nor strange.

Joseph quickly explained, "No, I didn't mean to flirt. I'm just sharing my feelings."

He looked at her earnestly and stood up. The moonlight shimmered in the pool, creating ripples that disturbed the serene night.

"Ms. Zimmerman, I hope you don't misunderstand. You and Mr. Inkling are a great match, and I won't do anything to make you both uncomfortable." His seriousness made Margot uneasy.

She cleared her throat. "Ahem ... Then why are you saying all this?"

"I don't know." Joseph shook his head. "I just have this sense of familiarity. Since returning to Clacton, I've been dreaming of you every night. And … in the dreams, you're different from the current you."
