“I better get cooking,” I said, changing gears and subjects.

“Sure,” Beau said, rolling his eyes.

“Stubborn Alphas,” he mumbled. I squinted looking up at him. He raised his hands in surrender. I shook my head, grabbing the spam and rice. Once I had it simmering, I started mixing the cornmeal and canned corn and adding seasoning. I turned to Beau watching over my shoulder, “I know there's milk somewhere, I need a bit?” He nodded, taking his leave out the back. I realized with cautious nerves I was listening for his movements out the back door and I could hear them as the fridge door opened and closed. His footsteps were almost inaudible but the lack of creaking floorboards had the hairs on my arm standing on end.

When he came back my mouth must have been ajar.

“What?” He asked, crinkling his forehead and the space over his nose between his eyes, adorable.

“I...I shouldn’t have been able to hear you in the fridge,” my eyes were like saucers. He looked at me like I had 5 head
