Despite being watched by Marie's eyes, I had myself inside Eric's building.

I can feel the questioning look from the workers in the building eyeing me. Perhaps they're told to watch every step I take and every move I make.

But does it bother me if they're watching me?

No, I have my purpose, and I've got worse problems than dealing with an egoistic and paranoid woman.

As soon as I stepped inside the elevator, I was welcomed by Maddie, who was struggling to carry four boxes in her arms.

"Good morning!" She vigorously greeted me with her signature smile that showed her gummy teeth.

It's so weird seeing her like this.

Although I never hated her, I kind of don't like her. There's a huge difference in that.

She only sees me. But who wouldn't? I was probably the tardiest worker in the building before.

"Here, let me help you," I offered, and before she could argue, I had already taken two of the boxes from her. "You design ads. What's with carrying these things?" I asked.

In and out of his office, Eric doesn't want to share what he saw, but his actions speak louder than his silence."Coffee, sir?" I asked, which he declined at the very nearest opportunity he had.Passing by me like a wind, he headed to his pantry and came back, taking nothing with him.I swear, I'm getting dizzy from him going back and forth worse than not having a good night sleep at all."Allen, call Schmidt and tell him that I will reschedule our meeting next week," he told me before entering his office before I could even nod my head. But as he approached the door, he suddenly fell on his knees, screaming in yells. His limbs are tweaking like he's having a seizure."Oh my!"Running straight to him, I knelt on the floor and rolled him. But what I saw caused me to yelp. There it is again, his eyes. As if there's black ink spilled to them and the sides of his lips run black lines."Eric!"A sudden whooshing air from the end of the hallway stopped me from panicking, yet it caused me my

Gasping upon seeing her face, I can't believe that I'll see her again."Serena?""Don't I look like myself?" She sarcastically replied with her arching eyebrows."But I thought you were taken by the dark entity?" I confusingly recalled what Mellon told me about her situation."It's me, you silly girl."I paused. That name-call.It's not the Serena from this timeline. It's the Serena I know!"Is that you?" I tried sitting up, but the pain in my stomach had me dragged back down in bed. "Damn it!""What's wrong with you?"Sighing, I calmed myself and the throbbing pain before speaking. "I was attacked by an unseen force, and it took Eric somewhere in your world."Panting, I recalled the last things I remember."And Eric, there's something wrong with him. It's like, he's possessed by something," I added. The look in his eyes will haunt me for the rest of my life, I can still feel the chills he gave me when he grabbed my foot. It's not him, I know. But I saw the monster that was living ins

I could feel the prickling pain on my feet as I ran through the forest. My hospital gown earned lashes from the sharp ends of branches and vines, yet I didn't stop running. As soon as Serena sent me away, I didn't dare look back even if I heard how the dark entity screeched.Panting harshly, I dropped next to a giant white tree that wasn't eaten by the wildfire spreading throughout the forest where Mellon spends his time.Passing by the treeline, my eyes were welcomed by fleeing creatures.Above is like a border of light and darkness.I feel like I entered a new dimension where living things have begun to evacuate themselves while the light is still upon them."What the hell?" I mumbled through my breath as I took steps towards the nearest creature that was hurrying in fear of being caught by the darkness.Trying to blend in, I snatched a robe that was left lying above a humongous mushroom that was lit in blue and white and covered myself with it."You better be right about your choic

Picking up the heavy sword that drags my weight down, I put on the face of a green warrior and thinned my lips.I can read anger on its face as it looks at me."Watch out!" The girl screamed when one of the trolls kicked its stinking foot in my direction.Reflex is the last thing my body could have as shock invaded my whole system. I couldn't move, I couldn't react.I just closed my eyes and began accepting my fate. I should've known that I could never be a dark horse, let alone face a group of trolls who want to step on me and erase me from existence.Waiting for the impact, I stood there frozen. Air blew my hair and brushed my skin, but nothing happened to me. Did I fly? Am I dead again?Opening my right eye to pee at what's up, my eyes went wide upon seeing the bottom of the foot of the troll just an inch away from my face. The skin turns from pale pink to the colorless rock that cracks and smokes the dust underneath.Whimpering from fear, my grip on the hilt of the sword turned we

"You're thinking deep," Serena noticed. "You're not dying anymore."I snorted at what she said last and gave her a calm expression. "Get ready for the twist because I'm a bad weed, and it will be hard for me to die."Serena held a small smile on her face as she heard my original tone of talking."Imagine it," I said. "I was already hopeless when I felt the cancer eating me from the inside. Like, I'm living the time I had left while being scared that I would leave everything behind."Sitting inside a cave where the endless sparkling falls gushes from the top of the mountain and onto a cold pool that was never full.Safe inside, warm, and solemn.Serena built a blue flame to keep us away from the cold breeze blowing from the outside. It was a long journey to where we were, but with Serena's charm, she found us the safest place to stay the night.Away from the darkness, away from any unfortunate situations, and, of course, from any trolls at all."I was thinking about a lot of things bac

My jaw dropped upon seeing its face, I could no longer recognize him. The darkness is shown in his eyes, and his skin has crawled by the black veins. He's wearing a cloak, and black smoke comes out of his hand. His smile which used to be brighter than the sun became the grin of the devil."Eric?" I shakily uttered his name.Fear consumed my system even more when his hand wrapped around my neck and pulled me close."No!" I tried to push him away, but his strength made it impossible for me to break free."The stench of sickness is in you, human." Instead of his comely voice, I can only hear the monster that manipulates his body."Eric, listen to me-- ah!" I yelped when he had us flying off of the cave and into the air. Away from Serena, away from the warmth.Only the sense of sullenness and fear is on my side."Eric?" I tried to call for his name, but he didn't listen. "Please, don't do this. Morning came, but the darkness never left.Only if I could reach Eric, only if I knew how to bring him back, I would do everything just to make this right."Mellon?" I called but was only answered by silence.Even if he never spoke that much, I know that he's listening."Are we just going to sit here?"I heard the shuffles from the other pit. After hours of spending inside the pit, the smoke grew higher, making my sight limited."I don't want to be in here for the rest of my remaining time. I have to do something. I have to get Eric back," I said with my eyes closed."Believe," he curtly uttered.Furrowing my eyebrows, I scratched my eyes and let out a heavy breath. "Believe, what? Believe that I won't die here? Believe a lie? What?""Believe in yourself."I can't help but snort. For so long, I had never been such a fan of myself, let alone have enough self-esteem to boast and encourage myself."The thing you lack the most is the darkness' weakness. However, it holds you. The thunder cracked, yet there was no lightning. The thick, dark clouds were menacing, but the rain seemed to be postponing. The winter cold breeze was chilling. It brushed my skin, making me shudder. But nothing mattered to me more than Serena. Aside from her suffering, she was my only hope for setting those creatures free and for Eric, my Eric."Who the heck is that?" I asked myself, peeping through the edge of the wall and sneaking a look."Your stinking possession has poisoned you, you've turned your back on your people! Take your soul back and save what's left of your barony," Serena grunted. She was shackled and helpless, it seemed like those chains were capable of stifling her magic. What should I do?"The baron is now under my control, and you, you brought me the gift I needed. Where is the human?" The baron grumbled his voice as he questioned her."Away from you," Serena fought the urge to moan in pain when the shackles were pulled. The creature guided me to a place much farther than the spot Serena had instructed me to wait. The more distance I covered, the eerier the surroundings became.Though still within the barony's boundaries, it felt as though I had stumbled upon a forgotten area. The walls were ensnared by the roots of an ancient, lifeless tree. Fallen leaves crunched under my boots and dust had claimed the once pristine bricks."Hey, slow down!" I called out, trying to catch up, my fingertips tracing the rough texture of the walls.I jogged carefully, doing my best to avoid stumbling. As we ventured further, we entered a cave. The roots now sported thorns, resembling rose stems. However, there was nothing beautiful about this place. It was filled with darkness, an unsettling view, and a palpable sense of danger."Where have you gone?" I lost sight of the creature and peered deeper into the gloom. The darkness enveloped me with an intensity that seemed to devour any trace of light, leaving me utterly bli

The night was pitch black, and the morning hadn't brought any light. The wind bit into my skin, causing my teeth to chatter in the frigid air.The fire must have died out. With each shivering breath, I forced my eyes open, only to be greeted by an unwelcoming environment. I was still here.It felt like waking up inside a nightmare, trapped within its confines."Serena?" My voice, hoarse and shaky, called out for the only ally I knew. But she was nowhere to be found. "Serena?"I found myself lying on the cold, hard ground. The remnants of the fire stained the stones around me, and the log where Serena had been sitting remained undisturbed.I was alone. This was not promising.Wrapping my cloak around myself for warmth, I clutched the sword at my waist."Serena?" My voice echoed through the trees, the birds mimicking it and sending ripples through the forest.A deafening silence filled the air, so quiet that it was almost painful.Suddenly, the ground beneath me started to shake. The st

An abrupt exclamation slipped from my lips when I spotted the wolves. However, these were not any ordinary wolves with soft white, grey, or black fur like snow."They're made out of smoke?" I shivered.Their eyes were yellow, filled with rage and menace. The paws that should have been digging into the dirt were invisible as they seemed to hover in the air, carried by the dark smoke of the malevolent Zeth."The bringer of fear," Serena murmured, her hand beginning to form a defense against the gloom these wolves, summoned by their master, brought with them."Indeed, they really do instill fear in me." I swallowed the rising tide of negative emotions within me, but the scent of fear still escaped as I heard their growl crawling on my skin."No weapon can harm it while it feeds on you," Serena warned. "You must be strong.""But I'm not," I protested, shaking my head in denial as my worries started to overwhelm me. "I don't know how to fight them.""It's simple," Serena reassured me, look

Despite the danger, we plunged into the water, fighting against coldness. As soon as half of my body got submerged in the waters, I felt my whole body stilled from the sudden drop in temperature."I just remembered how I hate cold baths," I uttered."Wait, stop!" Serena suddenly held us up just as we swam."What is it?" I asked. The bottom of the river is shallow, I couldn't reach it. But I can feel something softly bristling on my legs."What the hell is that?" I flinched."Don't move," Serena warned me.The waters aren't as clear as it must have been. I can't see what's underneath.Serena looked in the water with a deep frown. "There is something in the waters," she said that alarmed me.And before I could say a word, something pulled me down."Serena!"My voice was muffled. I nodded, understanding her pain. "We will end this, Serena. For Eric, for Mellon, for everyone who's been affected by this creature. We will bring peace back to this world."Justice, I don't know how to explain to her what it means, but I know that she feels it.I can hardly hear my old self whenever I open my mouth. Is this where I get to grow? Her eyes met mine, and for the first time, I saw a glimmer of hope in them. "Yes, we will."As we stood there, under the starlit sky, I felt a sense of camaraderie with Serena. I had to save Eric, no matter what it took.I turned to Lady Marmara, determination burning in my eyes."I will do whatever it takes to save him," I said, my voice steady. I was never the type of person who would advance to attack. In every problem I have encountered, I face it with my wobbling legs, never with a hard face."I can hardly hear the human I read about," Serena uttered as she looked at me.
