I panicked when Veronica mentioned the press.

My heart thumped loudly in my chest as beads of perspiration covered my forehead.

My palm grew wet as I wondered what I was supposed to do to get out of here without being caught by the press.

“Come with me,” Veronica said and gripped my hand, pulling me towards a door that I had never taken notice of since my stay at Veronica’s place.

“There is a backdoor that leads into the woods behind the house. I have a pick-up truck packed there for emergency purposes,” Veronica explained and I nodded without even giving her words a second thought.

She opened the door and we stepped into the woods. Veronica seemed to know the woods like the back of her palm. She navigated her way out and led me to an old pick-up truck packed at the end of the woods, just like she explained.

The paints were almost washed off, and the license plate was dangling weakly, threatening to fall off at any time.
