Turf

I rubbed my eyes roughly as I woke up from a bad night. I didn’t even know when I’d fallen asleep. I had just been too tired.

With my eyes still closed, I swung my feet to the ground frowning when I contacted cold tiled floors. That wasn’t right. I had a dark grey rug underneath my bed, the fluff on it made me look forward to my mornings.

I gave up on feeling for the rug and got up. I decided I would just use the restroom and plan my life day from there. I’d managed a few steps with my eyes half closed before I connected with a barrier. I peeled one eye open to peer down at it.

Plain boxes with random labels were stacked on each other. How did that get there? I wondered as my sleep brain adjusted.

There were several boxes on the floor, some pen and empty and others still seasoned, as a matter of fact this place looked nothing like my. Cozy home with its blaring white walls and cruel floors. It wasn’t my family home either.
