When I entered the party venue my eyes roamed the room searching for Pierce-no, for Adams or Jace.

“Hey pretty woman.” Adams said as he approached me with Jace by his side.

He gave me a quick hug before he stepped aside.

This was the first time I was seeing Jace since failing my interview, but I had spoken to him on the phone.

He punched my shoulder gently. “Better luck next time.”

It was then I saw Pierce. My heart ached as I had missed him. A lot. Fake relationship or not, I loved having Pierce around me.

My lounging turned into anguish as I watched him brush a strand of hair from Tami’s face and lean into her, intimately. Her smile brightened even further. It tore through me like a knife.
