“Hey.” Adams said, smiling at me.

My heart dropped into my stomach, “You’re not supposed to be here.”

“I know Myra, I just want to talk-I want to congratulate you…on getting the job.”

No words escaped my lips.

“She’s very thankful, but she’ll appreciate it if you just leave.” Hannah said kindly.

Lily frowned at all of us. Keeping Lily out of the loop was coming back to bite me in the bum.

“Myra, can we talk in private, please.” Adams insisted again, moving closer.

“My guy, maybe just leave? She doesn’t want to speak with you right now.” Jeremy added.

Bless his heart. He just met me and he was already standing up for me.

Adams took a good look at him. Probably the first since he materialized at our table. “Who are you supposed to be?”

“Right now, an acquaintance, hopefully we can be more than that while we work together on set.” He shot me a friendly wink and I smiled in return.

Adams glowered at him, “Nobody’s going to be ‘more’ with Myra. She’s not in the ma

Pierce stepped out of the shadows as he pushed his phone into his pocket. “Myra, I apologize for not being here to welcome you. I had to take a call.” He slowed to a stop opposite me. My heart sped up and I was arrested by his piercing gaze. The fairy lights cast a glow behind him giving him a look of an God with a halo around his head. A rugged one that would only drag me into the debts of hell. His hands rose gently to my face and caressed my nose gently, chasing the thought of him as a deity to the back of my mind. “Did you just boop my nose?” His lips twitched upwards in humor. “I thought you spaced out. You look beautiful as always.” I looked down at my pants, sweater and sneakers combo. It was hardly what Pierce would classify as beautiful, but I smiled. A compliment was a compliment. It faltered when I remembered who ai was talking too. I was supposed to be building immunity to his charms. “So, what are we doing here?” “Celebrating. But first…an apology.” I did

“Today really sucks huh?” Hannah sympathized. I let out a disgruntled breath in response. Since I joined her at our spot, I had planted my head permanently on the table with my eyes closed. To open them would mean I acknowledged my existence, and if I did, then my thoughts would stray to my evening with Pierce. And God, I wanted nothing more than to forget how willingly I gave myself to him. “And you refuse to tell me what Pierce did this time?” She poked my arm with a perfectly manicured finger.“I don’t wanna talk about it.” My voice came out muffled.“Gelato?”I propped my head up with my palms and watched as she gently pushed a bowl towards me. Pistacchio flavored. I grabbed a spoon.“You’re not ready to talk about Pierce, so let’s talk about work.”I let out a defeated groan and planted my head on the table again. Hannah chuckled, “Oh come on.”“My life so far has been one mistake after the other.”“Oof, that’s a bit harsh.”I raised my head. “I went through my script, Hannah

I shrugged and pulled him along. The conference room contained over two dozen people. Excitement buzzed the air as we all waited for O’Malley’s briefing. “Oh my God, that’s Sophia Bennett!” Jeremy gasped, tapping me in excitement. “She was in my favorite show. Too bad they had to end it prematurely. And now I’ll never know if Brady was in love with Sylvia or Jesse.” He sighed dramatically.“You could ask her.”“Why didn’t t I think of that?”I chuckled and glanced around the room in search of one man.“O’Malley’s not here?”“He was, but he had a bad coughing fit and left for a bit. But he’ll be out in…” -he checked his phone- “two minutes.”“How about Jace? I can’t see him.”“He stepped out after O’Malley. Speak of the devil.”I turned towards the door and found Jace weaving his way to us at a leisurely pace. He stopped beside me. “Room looks fuller than when I left.”“How’s your sister by the way?” Jeremy asked. “I heard we’re shooting stunt scenes first. We could sneak her in on o

I blinked rapidly, no I wasn’t seeing things, it was really her.“Did you say… assistant director?” I asked. Her eyes met mine, accompanied by a gentle unsure smile. I understood why she glanced in my direction before introducing Tami. If she had done her research, then she had probably seen the rumors about me and Pierce.“Yeah, apparently her parents encouraged her to put her degree to use. I can’t tell if she approached O’Malley or he approached her.” She shrugged. “But I have a hunch that says she’s one of the sponsors for this film.”Sophia spoke animatedly while Tami smiled sweetly and listened. I stopped hearing Bianca’s words, the ringing in my ear, overshadowing the noise around me. So far Tami had only wielded Pierce’s attention to hurt me, both of us on set would be bad for me.My mind flashed to my evening with Pierce and I winced. Was this going to be a regular for the three of us?“Okay everyone, grab a seat around the table.” Rhonda announced. I didn’t notice when O’Ma

O’Malley’s words had brewed a new worry for me, and for the dozenth time during my pregnancy I got nervous. As Lily got ready in the room, I chatted with Hannah in the kitchen. I moved my head to the side to make sure Lily wasn’t coming out before I raised my top up to show her my belly.“Look at me, do I look pregnant to you?”“Myra, I just think you have a little Houdini, it’s perfectly normal. A simple google search would tell you that.” she scrolled through her phone. “This is like a cryptic pregnancy.”“Isn’t that like, bad?” “No, I don’t think so…”She tugged on the hem of her T-shirt and my eyes were drawn to the texts scrawled across. ‘I watch you while you sleep.’ A gift from Damien, no doubt. These two were kooky. “You should see a doctor if it’s bothering you so much. They’ll put your fears to rest.”“I know, this week had me choked up with rehearsals. I’m glad it’s over, and I’ve made an appointment already.“My phone rang in my bag and I rushed to get it. With reh

The room went deadly silent. A nurse passed outside the door with a trolley before a word was uttered. “P-pregnant?” Mum asked, wide-eyed.I nodded. Lily chortled. She looked at my sober expression, chuckled again, and resumed flipping her magazine. “I am.” I deadpanned. Lily ignored me while mum laughed, her eyes shining“Tiny? You’re pregnant. Well are you sure-how long have you known?”“A couple weeks.” I smiled. Lily finally put down her paper and frowned at me. “You’re actually serious.”Excitement built in my chest. “Yes. You’re gonna be an aunt soon.”“Oh Myra!” Mum arms went around me, startling me. She squeezed my shoulders tightly. “And I’m gonna be a grandmother.”I chuckled, relief flooding my chest. They were taking the news better than I expected. Lily looked confused for a few more second before she stretched to hug me too.“You’re actually pregnant? No faking.” she whispered on last time. “No faking.” I whispered back.“Boy or girl?”Mum released me so she could

I spared at glance at my stunt double as she did a backflip to escape her ‘enemies’I was in luck today, because the rehearsal didn’t require any emotional acting from us today. Just for the actors to find their groove with the doubles. All I could think about was my sister and mum and Genevieve…Jeremy nudged my shoulder. “You okay?”I forced a smile to my face. “Yeah.”“It’s last days of rehearsals she’s probably worried about it.” Bianca concluded on my behalf. “From next week we start the real thing.” She bounced on the spot. “And we make possible movie history.” Jace added, stopping beside us. He hoisted himself up the speakers we were sitting on, his arms sheened with sweat. While the rest of us had stunt doubles at ATLEAST one point of the film, Jace had opted to do his own stunts. I thought of O’Malley’s admission the last time we spoke. He was counting on this movie being a part of movie history. “Okay people, great job so far. That will be all for today, see you next week

“Nahh, that’s something that takes years of practice.” I argued. “You don’t just wake up one day and think you can perform stunts, this shit isn’t parkour.”Bianca burst into hearty laughter, while Jeremy grinned.“I’m just saying, Take Jace for example, he doesn’t have any training and he’s doing great.” Jeremy argued back.“I’ve always suspected that fucker of secretly being a government spy. That would explain a lot.” My friends laughed. “But I bet, if they needed a scene where he had to act fast, like protect his head from getting hit while, making it look like he did. He would get seriously hurt. Even stunt doubles get hurt.”“Whatever wound he gets would match the next scenes.”“Yeah but they have to be gone in record time. He had the guts to look at me like I was the problem in this situation. His bushy brows were furrowed as he scowled, his eyes showing equal parts of desire and annoyance. Ditto.“Going out with Hannah?” He questioned. “This isn’t your usual filming getup.“Well excuse me, fashion police, but you need to get out of my house!” He looked at my face finally, then around the house like cockroaches were crawling all over the place. “Really Myra? This? This is what you settled on finally? It’s a dump. Why didn’t you take the apartment I offered?”“And be indebted to you even more? No fucking thank you.” It felt so hot in the house. I had Pierce to blame for that. He was only standing by the doorway, but he managed to fill the room so far all I could see was him, all I could smell was him, all I could think for crying out loud was him! I wanted him gone. “Now if you would be kind enough…LEAVE.”“You can’t be serious Myra.” He started, moving into the room further. “did you even have a look a

I typed the name into google, having never heard the name before. Scrolling and reading while I peeled another pepperoni slice off my pizza. That last bit sounded familiar.A notification from Carter popped up on my screen. I opened it.-I understand that it could be taken the wrong way. But I consider her a powerful deity. Queen of the heavens. I think looking at you feels like I’m looking at the sky. Trevor emerged from beside the cars lined in the lot in a tailored armani suit. A simple engraved stainless steel brooch on his collared vest. Forever the stylish icon. “Miss Myra. He left the office- after acting like piss, I might add- then he returned even more pissy and handed me back the documents he had me painstakingly work on, and told me to meet you here.”“So yes?” That meant

I moved back, my eyes glued on Roberto as he stalked me with a wild look in his eyes. My legs hit the edge of the bedframe and I let myself fall back just as he reached for me. He creeped up my body slowly, hovering over my lips. I crashed my lips onto his a split second later. Here, at this moment, I wasn’t Myra. I was Amber Farnworth, a woman who had a harem of men at her beck and call. She didn’t love a man for over four years without him reciprocating, or lose a child.I twisted my head to the side to evade Roberto’s lips and he buried kisses in my neck. A simple movement caught my eye. Past the camera pointed on us on the bed, past the other stage crew or actors…Pierce? My heart skipped, filling me with more need than I could summon for this scene. Could it be him? I wasn’t sure. A cast member shifted slightly and when they returned back to their former position the figure was gone.“Myra, don’t break the fourth wall.” O’Malley called through the mega phone and Roberto sighed in

Hannah helped me lift the last of my things up the stairs to my new apartment. “So you like him?” Hannah asked as we rested at the top of the stairs. I had explained Carter’s words on an attempt to sort through what I was feeling. I didn’t know what it was. I chucked it up to guilt for treating him the same way Pierce treated me; assuming the worst of me. “I don’t like him. I’m just…conflicted.” Don’t get defensive, it’s not bad if you do like him.” I let out an exasperated sigh. “I just lost a child Hannah, not to mention the breakup with Pierce. I can’t ‘like’ anyone right now.” We picked up the bean bag and waddled all the way to my apartment. Heaving as we dropped the bag in the center of the living room. “God you should’ve asked Derek to help.” “Nope.” I answered, collapsing on the bag. As he drive me home after the sordid affair in the parking lot, he informed me that he was quitting. Derek was a good guy, and I would miss his company, but this gave us an opportun

“This looks rather cozy.” I said, stepping a step back and hitting Carter. His hands went around my waist to steady me. “It does? I didn’t notice.” There was a hint of laughter in his voice. When I glanced up, he was smiling at me. “I hear they have good food. We grab a bite and then we leave, it isn’t a big deal.” He cocked his head to the side, “not unless you make it.”“No it’s fine.” I stepped away from him, relieved that his hands freed me easily. I wasn’t even dressed for that kind of thing. I looked out of place here and I liked it that way. A server stopped by us with a smile and spoke to Carter while I hung in the background. When they were done speaking, he led me to a booth not far from the entrance. A smart choice since it eliminated the cozy feel.“So do you checkout new restaurants often?” I asked after we had been given menus. The crinkles in his eyes deepened. “I do, actually. Jace has acting as a hobby and I fancy myself some kind of food critic.” I raised a brow. “T

“O’Malley is certainly working us to death.” Jace said as he collapsed on the ground in the part of the woods we were shooting. I was wearing a sleeveless shirt and would rather avoid the sand totally, but was too exhausted to mind. I joined him on the floor, resting my head on his belly. Sophia, Bianca, Roberto and the others joined us on the floor or rested their backs against the trees.“How’s your play date with your brother going?” I asked Jace.I felt him shift under me. “Perfect. We are supposed to have one today actually.”“Is it cancelled?” A little part of me wanted to see Carter. Roberto saying he was flirting with me had forced the idea i to my head and it wouldn’t leave. Was I really so stuck up on Pierce that I couldn’t tell when a guy was openly flirting with me?“I’m trying to figure out how to cancel.”“You don’t want to join your family’s company.”“I’m just not ready for that part of my life yet. I chewed on my lip and glanced back at the set. “I’ll have to decline. Can’t steal the star of the show without warning. Maybe next time?”“For sure.” I smiled back. It felt good to smile.“See you around, Myra.” He gave a small salute in Roberto’s direction and walked away, my eyes still trainedbon his figure. I thought about how different he was from Pierce, with the charming easy smiles and calming demeanor. Carter still kept this boyish high school vibe, and he made it work.“Now that is how a rich man flirts.” Robert said. He had placed his hands behind his head and was smirking at me. The fabric of his shirt had gone up, exposing an inch of skin. I peeled my eyes away from there and focused on his words.“Flirting?”“Oh yeah.” I scoffed, “he wasn’t flirting with me, he’s just really

I stood at the hospital reception desk, my eyes fixed on the woman typing away on her computer. "Room or common room?" I asked, forcing my voice to be louder than it could go.She scrolled through the screen, her brow furrowed in concentration. "She's in her room today. She wanted to stay in bed."I nodded, settling back into the dull ache in my chest. I trudged up the stairs, and as I reached my mother's room, pushed open the door and stepped inside. It was dimly lit, I noticed a live plant in her room with wilting leaves. My mother sat in a chair, her legs swathed in a vibrant blanket with small flowery squares that I recognised as the project she had been working on. My lips tugged upwards briefly and my heart swelled. At least one of us was able to finish what we started.I swallowed hard, trying to hold back the tears that threatened to spill over. When I breathed out, it felt easier.“That looks gorgeous, mum.” I commented, and planted a kiss on the top of her hair. “You finally
