Clara slowly opened her eyes, she looked around the room and noticed it looked unfamiliar.
‘Where am I?’ She thought as she kept looking around. She tried to recall what happened and she did. She remembered passing out.
Just as she was about to try to sit up, the door opened revealing the doctor. It was their family doctor.
“Mrs. Blackwell. You are awake.” Dr. Griffo said.
“How did I get here?” She asked as she slowly sat up.
“Your butler brought you in, ma’am.” He replied and she nodded. He kept smiling at her which made Clara wonder what was going on.
“It's good to see you again Mrs. Blackwell.” He said, Clara faked a smile. If only he knew she wasn't bearing that last name again.
Also, she found it odd. Dr. Griffo was smiling more than usual.
“What?” Clara couldn't help but ask.
“Congratulations, Mrs. Blackwell. You are pregnant.” He announced. Clara felt everything around her pause as his words echoed in her head.
She thought she heard wrong so she let out a chuckle and shook her head.
“What?”
“You are pregnant. You are four weeks pregnant.” He said. Tears welled up in Clara’s eyes as she heard the news, she felt so relieved. Like the weight of the world on her shoulders has been lifted.
This could change a lot, this means Xavier will take her back and his family will love her again. The best part of it all, she isn't barren like she thought she was.
“Oh my God.” She smiled out tears and chuckled.
“Can you call my mother-in-law?” She asked.
“Why? I can call your husband.” Dr. Griffo replied, finding her request odd.
“No. Call my mother-in-law instead. Tell her it's really urgent and she needs to be here with Xavier.” She said and the doctor nodded.
“No problem, I will do that now.” He replied with a smile and walked out of the room.
Clara sighed in relief and smiled, she wiped her tears and placed her hand on her stomach.
“Finally.” She whispered to herself.
After what seemed like forever to Clara, Xavier’s mother arrived.
She walked into the ward and Clara sat up immediately.
“What is this about? You seem fine.” She said and rolled her eyes. As Clara was about to respond, the door opened revealing Dr. Griffo.
Behind him was Xavier and Kathrine. Of course, Clara recognizes her, Xavier still has her pictures in his room and he stares at them almost every day.
Clara felt her heart shatter seeing her, he really had to bring her. Is he trying to humiliate her?
She shrugged off the thought, after all, she is pregnant, once she breaks the news to them, everything will be fine again.
“Dr. Griffo, what is going on?” Xavier asked as he walked towards the bed. Kathrine locked her arms to him and held onto him tightly.
She was glaring hard at Clara.
“I believe she wants to announce the news herself.” The doctor replied, nodding at Clara.
“I’m pregnant.” She said, staring at Xavier. His eyes widened in shock.
“What?” He asked.
“I’m pregnant. Four weeks pregnant.” She said again. His mother let out a chuckle.
“I didn't know people can become four weeks pregnant in hours.” She scoffed.
“She isn't joking ma’am. She is pregnant.” Dr. Griffo confirmed and Xavier looked at him before looking back at Clara.
She was waiting for him to say something, her heart raced in anticipation.
“Who is the father?” He asked and Clara felt her heart shatter.
Did he really just ask that? That is all he could say!
“What? Who is the father?” Clara asked back.
“Yes. I haven't been coming home regularly so you are not supposed to be pregnant. And now that you are, who is the father?” He asked.
Clara blinked rapidly as tears welled up in her eyes. He is really serious with his question.
“Xavier.” She called with her voice breaking as a tear rolled out of her eyes.
“Is this because he divorced you? Is that why you want to hold him down with this?” His mother asked.
“I will be outside. Excuse me.” Dr. Griffo said and walked out. It's a family matter that he shouldn't be involved in.
“Xavier, it's yours. You know it is, you know.” Clara said in fear as tears streamed down her cheeks.
Kathrine had a smile on her face as she watched. She was enjoying the show.
“Shut… “
“Mum, please. Can you excuse us for a few minutes?” Xavier cut his mother off and she rolled her eyes before walking out of the room.
“You too, Kathrine.” He added. She looked at him but he gave her an assuring look. She pecked his lips before walking out of the room too.
Clara couldn't bear the pain she was feeling.
“Xavier.” She called softly when the room was empty. He moved closer to the bed and leaned to her.
He stared at her eyes and she held his gaze as tears filled her hazel eyes.
“Listen to me, Clara. I really don't care if it's mine or not. We already had a divorce, we both signed those papers, and we are not together anymore.”
“This means I am finally going to give you an heir.”
“Kathrine is giving me an heir already and I love her.” He replied bluntly.
“But it's yours, Xavier.” She whimpered.
“And I am telling you I don't care about it.”
“Xavier, don't do this to me. What am I supposed to do?” She cried silently.
“Get rid of it. Or pin it on someone else.” He replied and she stared at him in disbelief.
How can he say that? What the hell has gotten into him? She knows he is a good man, why is he suddenly being this way?
“Why would you say such a thing to me? It's me, Xavier.”
“Isn't it obvious? You mean nothing to me, you have never meant something and you never will. I don't love you and I never will.”
Without waiting for Clara to respond, Xavier walked out of the ward. Clara buried her face in her hands as she started to cry loudly. Everything kept getting worse the moment she thought it would get better. What is she supposed to do? Where is she supposed to go? She was so sure her parents wouldn't accept her back. She was also sure they would have heard the news. Dr. Griffo walked back into the room, Clara hurriedly wiped her tears as she looked up at him.He gave her a look but Clara forced a smile.“I am really sorry about this ma’am. If there is anything I can do to help, I will.” He said and Clara nodded. He is their family doctor, he isn't a stranger so he knows a lot. “Can you get me a ride?” She asked and sniffed.“Of course, ma’am.” ~Clara sat in the car and watched the chauffeur drive and at the same time, she was fighting her tears. She was in the car the doctor arranged for her and as dumb as it sounds, she was heading to Xavier’s mansion. For the last time, she
Clara walked around the street aimlessly, she had no idea of what to do. She was scared and hopeless. She suddenly felt a slight pain in her stomach and she hissed, she recalled she hadn't eaten all day. She fought the tears that welled up in her eyes at the thought of her baby being hurt due to starvation. She looked around the street and noticed a restaurant, she slowly walked towards it. She got in and looked around, it was empty. Just a middle-aged lady was behind the counter. Clara walked to the counter and the woman looked up at her. She recalled she had no money on her and thought of how to plead with the woman. She wasn't used to doing this, she used to be the wife of a billionaire, and she gets whatever she needs without asking.“Are you going to keep staring like you have seen a ghost or you are going to place your order?” The woman asked, snapping her out of her thoughts.“Oh, yeah. Sorry.” Clara muttered and exhaled heavily.“Ma’am, I... ““I don't give free food. If yo
Staring at the amazing meals in her presence, Clara smiled widely feeling satisfied. She checked the time, seeing it was almost time for her husband to get home, she giggled to herself. All she had to do was wait a few more minutes.Hours passed and her husband hadn't arrived. She wasn't so surprised, it happens frequently. “Ma’am, do you want me to clear the table? I don't think Mr. Miller will be arriving soon.” The butler asked staring at her with pity. “No, it's fine. I will wait a few more minutes, you can go to bed.” She replied. He bowed before walking away. Clara exhaled heavily as she stared at the time, it was almost midnight already. This has been going on for almost a month, and her husband has been missing dinner. Every night, she hoped it would be different, she got her hopes up hoping he would show up. She knows her husband doesn't love her, their marriage is based on a contract between their families. The reason she got married to him was to give him an heir but
Clara stared at him with so much pain in her heart, seeing he had already made up his mind and there was nothing she could do, she stared at the papers, ready to sign. Xavier noticed she was ready, he handed her a pen and she took it. As she was about to sign the papers, she thought about how her life would be over once she signed them. Her parents will abandon her, she will have nowhere to go, and the humiliation she will get from everyone in the city. Her life will be ruined!“I… I can't sign this.” She muttered and dropped the papers. “Xavier, please. We can make this work, I will get pregnant, and I will give you an heir.” Clara pleaded in tears but he ignored it. “Let's just get this over with, okay? It's been two years and there is nothing to gain from this marriage. Katherine is back and she is pregnant, I want to be with her.” Despite all he had said, Clara still wasn't ready to sign the divorce papers. She has no life without Xavier.“No, I can't.” She muttered.“Sign th
Xavier headed out in the morning without waiting to see Clara, he was glad she signed the papers already. He headed to the hotel where Kathrine was staying. He arrived there in minutes. Immediately he stepped in, she rushed to him and threw her arms around him. Xavier chuckled as he wrapped his arms around her and spun her around. He knew he was doing the right thing, Kathrine loves him as much as he loves her. While they were still together, they were the talk of the city. Everyone was always rooting for them. It was a shock to everyone seeing his marriage with Clara, the city talked about it for a very long time before it eventually died down when they found something else to talk about. He never loved Clara, it's really a good thing he is letting her go.He couldn't deny the fact that he felt a little pity for Clara, she is a good woman and the years of being married to her were peaceful. He knows how much she loves him and always tries to be on his good side during the years
