Clara slowly opened her eyes, she looked around the room and noticed it looked unfamiliar.
‘Where am I?’ She thought as she kept looking around. She tried to recall what happened and she did. She remembered passing out.
Just as she was about to try to sit up, the door opened revealing the doctor. It was their family doctor.
“Mrs. Blackwell. You are awake.” Dr. Griffo said.
“How did I get here?” She asked as she slowly sat up.
“Your butler brought you in, ma’am.” He replied and she nodded. He kept smiling at her which made Clara wonder what was going on.
“It's good to see you again Mrs. Blackwell.” He said, Clara faked a smile. If only he knew she wasn't bearing that last name again.
Also, she found it odd. Dr. Griffo was smiling more than usual.
“What?” Clara couldn't help but ask.
“Congratulations, Mrs. Blackwell. You are pregnant.” He announced. Clara felt everything around her pause as his words echoed in her head.
She thought she heard wrong so she let out a chuckle and shook her head.
“What?”
“You are pregnant. You are four weeks pregnant.” He said. Tears welled up in Clara’s eyes as she heard the news, she felt so relieved. Like the weight of the world on her shoulders has been lifted.
This could change a lot, this means Xavier will take her back and his family will love her again. The best part of it all, she isn't barren like she thought she was.
“Oh my God.” She smiled out tears and chuckled.
“Can you call my mother-in-law?” She asked.
“Why? I can call your husband.” Dr. Griffo replied, finding her request odd.
“No. Call my mother-in-law instead. Tell her it's really urgent and she needs to be here with Xavier.” She said and the doctor nodded.
“No problem, I will do that now.” He replied with a smile and walked out of the room.
Clara sighed in relief and smiled, she wiped her tears and placed her hand on her stomach.
“Finally.” She whispered to herself.
After what seemed like forever to Clara, Xavier’s mother arrived.
She walked into the ward and Clara sat up immediately.
“What is this about? You seem fine.” She said and rolled her eyes. As Clara was about to respond, the door opened revealing Dr. Griffo.
Behind him was Xavier and Kathrine. Of course, Clara recognizes her, Xavier still has her pictures in his room and he stares at them almost every day.
Clara felt her heart shatter seeing her, he really had to bring her. Is he trying to humiliate her?
She shrugged off the thought, after all, she is pregnant, once she breaks the news to them, everything will be fine again.
“Dr. Griffo, what is going on?” Xavier asked as he walked towards the bed. Kathrine locked her arms to him and held onto him tightly.
She was glaring hard at Clara.
“I believe she wants to announce the news herself.” The doctor replied, nodding at Clara.
“I’m pregnant.” She said, staring at Xavier. His eyes widened in shock.
“What?” He asked.
“I’m pregnant. Four weeks pregnant.” She said again. His mother let out a chuckle.
“I didn't know people can become four weeks pregnant in hours.” She scoffed.
“She isn't joking ma’am. She is pregnant.” Dr. Griffo confirmed and Xavier looked at him before looking back at Clara.
She was waiting for him to say something, her heart raced in anticipation.
“Who is the father?” He asked and Clara felt her heart shatter.
Did he really just ask that? That is all he could say!
“What? Who is the father?” Clara asked back.
“Yes. I haven't been coming home regularly so you are not supposed to be pregnant. And now that you are, who is the father?” He asked.
Clara blinked rapidly as tears welled up in her eyes. He is really serious with his question.
“Xavier.” She called with her voice breaking as a tear rolled out of her eyes.
“Is this because he divorced you? Is that why you want to hold him down with this?” His mother asked.
“I will be outside. Excuse me.” Dr. Griffo said and walked out. It's a family matter that he shouldn't be involved in.
“Xavier, it's yours. You know it is, you know.” Clara said in fear as tears streamed down her cheeks.
Kathrine had a smile on her face as she watched. She was enjoying the show.
“Shut… “
“Mum, please. Can you excuse us for a few minutes?” Xavier cut his mother off and she rolled her eyes before walking out of the room.
“You too, Kathrine.” He added. She looked at him but he gave her an assuring look. She pecked his lips before walking out of the room too.
Clara couldn't bear the pain she was feeling.
“Xavier.” She called softly when the room was empty. He moved closer to the bed and leaned to her.
He stared at her eyes and she held his gaze as tears filled her hazel eyes.
“Listen to me, Clara. I really don't care if it's mine or not. We already had a divorce, we both signed those papers, and we are not together anymore.”
“This means I am finally going to give you an heir.”
“Kathrine is giving me an heir already and I love her.” He replied bluntly.
“But it's yours, Xavier.” She whimpered.
“And I am telling you I don't care about it.”
“Xavier, don't do this to me. What am I supposed to do?” She cried silently.
“Get rid of it. Or pin it on someone else.” He replied and she stared at him in disbelief.
How can he say that? What the hell has gotten into him? She knows he is a good man, why is he suddenly being this way?
“Why would you say such a thing to me? It's me, Xavier.”
“Isn't it obvious? You mean nothing to me, you have never meant something and you never will. I don't love you and I never will.”
Without waiting for Clara to respond, Xavier walked out of the ward. Clara buried her face in her hands as she started to cry loudly. Everything kept getting worse the moment she thought it would get better. What is she supposed to do? Where is she supposed to go? She was so sure her parents wouldn't accept her back. She was also sure they would have heard the news. Dr. Griffo walked back into the room, Clara hurriedly wiped her tears as she looked up at him.He gave her a look but Clara forced a smile.“I am really sorry about this ma’am. If there is anything I can do to help, I will.” He said and Clara nodded. He is their family doctor, he isn't a stranger so he knows a lot. “Can you get me a ride?” She asked and sniffed.“Of course, ma’am.” ~Clara sat in the car and watched the chauffeur drive and at the same time, she was fighting her tears. She was in the car the doctor arranged for her and as dumb as it sounds, she was heading to Xavier’s mansion. For the last time, she
Clara walked around the street aimlessly, she had no idea of what to do. She was scared and hopeless. She suddenly felt a slight pain in her stomach and she hissed, she recalled she hadn't eaten all day. She fought the tears that welled up in her eyes at the thought of her baby being hurt due to starvation. She looked around the street and noticed a restaurant, she slowly walked towards it. She got in and looked around, it was empty. Just a middle-aged lady was behind the counter. Clara walked to the counter and the woman looked up at her. She recalled she had no money on her and thought of how to plead with the woman. She wasn't used to doing this, she used to be the wife of a billionaire, and she gets whatever she needs without asking.“Are you going to keep staring like you have seen a ghost or you are going to place your order?” The woman asked, snapping her out of her thoughts.“Oh, yeah. Sorry.” Clara muttered and exhaled heavily.“Ma’am, I... ““I don't give free food. If yo
Clara arrived at the Blackwell's mansion and made her way out of the taxi. She knew the wedding was happening in their ballroom. That was where the Blackwells held all their events. The estate was filled with different luxurious cars. She arrived at the mansion and kept her head low to avoid being recognized. As she passed, the guests kept staring at her, wondering who she was and why she was dressed that way. She arrived at the entrance to the ballroom and tried to sneak in but the security caught her and stopped her. Before she could speak, the security beat her to it.“The waiters and the rest of the maids are at the back. You can't go in through here.” He said pointing in a direction. “Oh, okay.” Clara responded and rushed in the direction. She was glad no one recognized her. She got to the back and went through a door, she found the waiters and the maids, it was a kitchen. She had never been to that part of the house before because she had no reason to. “Hey, you. Why are y
YEARS LATER “Last to get to the car gives up mum’s next gift!” Kaylen yelled and before he could blink, his sister rushed down the stairs.“Kaylee.” He yelled after her and rushed down the stairs too. The maids paved the way for them as they both ran down the stairs. Kaylee made it down the long stairs first and jumped over a couch in the living room. Kaylen also did and was about to run past her but he almost tripped which made a guard lift him. His sister laughed and rushed out of the house and got to the car first.“I won, I won!” She yelled and Kaylen groaned angrily as he struggled with the guard.“Why did you stop me?” He screamed at the guard as he dropped him carefully.“You almost fell, sir. I had to, you could have gotten hurt.” The guard apologized and bowed his head.“It was none of your business!” He yelled and Kaylee laughed at him as she walked back into the living room.“He was only doing his job.” They heard their mother say and they both turned to see her walking i
Clara had a smile on her face as she walked down the stairs. She heard her kids talking, more like an argument. It was coming from the dining room. She walked into the room and they both paused when they saw her.“Are you both going to tell me what this argument is about?” She asked as she took a seat in between them.“You are going out?” Kaylen asked with a frown as he noticed her outfit. “Yes.” Clara replied as she dished her meal.“Why?” He asked.“Because I have a business meeting.” “Are you going to keep us indoors here too? I think we deserve to go out.” Kaylee said.“Yes, Clara.” Kaylen said sternly and she shot him a glare. Her children are nothing alike, Kaylee is calm, kind, smart, and loving while Kaylen is the opposite. He is smart too, he is just playful and stubborn.“You guys will go out, a lot. Just anticipate, I have so much in store for both of you.” She said with a smile and Kaylee giggled while Kaylen rolled his eyes.“We will believe it when it happens.” He said
Xavier paced in his office as different thoughts popped up in his head. He couldn't stop thinking about Clara, he got curious too.“Are you sure it was her?” He heard a voice ask, interrupting his thoughts. He paused and turned to his best friend who was seated at his table.“Come on, Carl. Will I make this up?” He asked and rolled his eyes.“I don't know. It's been five years dude.”“I know.” “And you are saying she showed up out of the blue as a billionaire?” Carl scoffed.“Yes.” Xavier replied.“Oh, please.” He chuckled and fell back on the chair.“This isn't funny.” Xavier glared at him.“Why are you so bothered about it though? If she is back, what does it have to do with you?” Carl asked and Xavier stared at him in disbelief. Is his best friend really dumb?“It has everything to do with me.” Xavier raised his voice. “Because she wants to invest in your company?” He asked and Xavier ran his hand through his hair. He couldn't think of an answer to that question. He thought abou
“Oh my God.” Carl muttered.“Xavier.” He called and turned to see him frozen. “Clara is back?” Kathrine asked but didn't get a response from anyone.“Mummy?” Kaylee called, the stares were getting too much.“It's okay. Just give it a few more minutes.” She said as she pulled her children to a table. She helped them sit and she sat next to them. Soon, the stares died down but everyone kept whispering as they passed. Her children also heard some of the murmurs and the were curious but decided not to talk about it. Soon, the party started and most couples walked to the dance floor. Clara could feel the Blackwell's eyes on her, the whole family was staring at her. “Mum, can I go and dance over there?” Kaylen asked, pointing in a direction. Clara looked in that direction and noticed it was kids their age. She was about to decline but thought about it, they needed a social life. “Take your sister with you.” Clara replied and they both looked at Kaylee who seemed nervous.“Come on, I w
The party came to an end after an hour, during the party, Clara made sure to keep her distance from the Blackwells. She made her way out with her children, her guards escorted them towards the car. They got into the car and her phone rang, she saw the caller and picked up the call immediately.“I saw pictures, you are trending in and out of the city. Is this part of it? Or you are getting distracted?” The caller asked.“You gave me three weeks. Do you not trust me anymore?” Clara asked back. She heard nothing from the caller again and the call ended.“Mummy, I’m tired.” Kaylee said and moved closer to her.“It's okay baby.” Clara replied and wrapped her arms around her.~“I am talking to you Xavier. You don't get to walk away from me!” Kathrine yelled behind Xavier as they made their way into the house.Xavier ignored her and was about to get to the stairs when Kathrine ran to him and blocked his path.“Get out of the way, Kathrine.” He said calmly, she rolled her eyes at him.“Or w
Clara watched as Mrs. Blackwell was rushed out of the ballroom with everyone else. The few guests left in the room started to leave. In minutes, the ballroom was empty. She slowly sat at a table and relaxed in the seat. “That was a lot.” She muttered as she poured herself another glass. She exhaled heavily and took a sip. She checked the time on her phone and realized it had been over twenty minutes. “Should I go to the hospital too?” She asked out loud as she played with the glass in her hand. “I guess I should.” She said after thinking about it for a few seconds. She looked at the bottle of wine on the table and realized it was still halfway through. “After I finish this bottle.” She added with a smile. Clara walked into the hospital and walked to one of the nurses, she knew the hospital they were in. The Blackwells only use one hospital, the hospital they donate to every year, and built a private wing in it. “Excuse me, I am here to see Mrs. Blackwell. I am her daug
A WEEK LATER It's been a peaceful week in the city. No drama, no news, and everything has been going fine. The Blackwells too have been doing fine, Clara hasn't shown up for a week, and the last time anyone saw her was at Xavier’s warehouse. Kaylee and Kaylen have been doing fine, and Sarah has been doing well too. She now joins Mr. Blackwell at some meetings. Carl and Lucy have been preparing for their engagement party which will be in a few days. They don't want a crowd or too much attention so they didn't announce it. It was just a family thing with a few friends of Carl’s family and Mr. Blackwell. Xavier was busy preparing for anything that was about to come. He hasn't gotten a chance to talk with his father yet. He wasn't ready to have the conversation with his father, he was bothered he would find out things he didn't wish to know. ~The day of the engagement party came faster than it seemed, it was being held in the Blackwell’s mansion ballroom. Just like Lucy and Carl wa
“Is this because I flipped you over my shoulder in Vegas? You are still mad about it, right?” She asked with a smile. Carl glared at her before walking away from them. “You are on our side, right?” Kaylen asked and she turned to him.“Yes. Why wouldn't I be?” She asked.“You don't want to get revenge anymore, you just want to end this?” Kaylee asked.“I promise.” Clara replied with a smile. They nodded at her.“Can you leave now?” Xavier asked and she frowned.“No.”“How did you know we were going to get attacked?” Kaylee suddenly asked. “I have someone from the organization who is on my side. He informed me.” Clara replied and Kaylee nodded. “Hold on. I just thought about something. How well do you know Tokyo? You called her by a different name so you should know her well.” Kaylen asked Xavier.“Yes, Xavier. Tell them how you know her.” Clara added. Xavier glared at her before turning to his kids.“I dated her daughter.” He replied.“And?” Clara asked.“And killed her.” He replied
Kaylee ran down the hallway with Clara running behind her. The men ran after them too. Clara noticed a fire alarm and she turned it on, the alarm came on and the hallway got crowded in minutes which confused the men after them.“Is there really a fire?” Kaylee asked as Clara caught up with her and held her hand.“No, come on.” Clara replied and joined the crowd. They kept their head bowed as they walked.“Hold on, if they are after me, won't they be after Kaylen too?” Kaylee asked and Clara’s eyes widened. She forgot to check up on Kaylen.“Call him.” She ordered Kaylee and she did immediately. They took the stairs and rushed down.“He is not picking.” “Shit. Call Lucy and tell her to track his location.” Clara ordered. They were already close to the exit of the building. Kaylee dialed Lucy’s number and she picked up immediately.“Hi, Kaylee.” Lucy said happily.“Hmm, Aunt Lucy. I think Kaylen is in trouble, Clara needs you to get his location.” Kaylee said.“Fuck.” Lucy cursed an
The weekend was over and the kids were back to school, they arrived just like every other day and headed to class. Ever since Kaylee fought back her bullies, no one tried to bully her again. Allison and Nora tried to stay away from her.The school ended for the day, and Kaylee left early with her because she had a shoot. Sarah left with Beck to go hang out while Kaylen decided to hang out with one of the girls in his class.Kaylen decided to hang out with the girl before heading home, they went to a restaurant close to their school. As they had their meals and communicated, Kaylen’s phone rang. “Excuse me.” He said to the girl as he picked up his phone, it was a strange number calling. He furrowed his brows before answering the call.“Hello?” He called.“Kaylen.” He had a familiar voice reply.“Clara?” He called back.“Where the hell is Kaylee having her shoot?” Clara asked. Kaylen was confused a little. “What? Why are you asking?” Kaylen asked.“Answer my question Kaylen. Where
SIX YEARS AGOClara hissed in pain as she wrapped the bandage on her bloody fingers. She gritted her teeth as she tried to ignore the pain. She closed her eyes and relaxed on the seat. The door to the office opened and Tokyo walked in, she was surprised to see Clara in her office.“Why are you here?” She asked as she walked fully into the office. Clara didn't give her a response, she remained in her position. Tokyo took a seat at her desk and stared at her. She noticed her bloody hands, she had scars all over her body too and her hair was looking bad. “I am guessing from the way you look our target was eliminated.” She said, Clara slowly opened her eyes and stared at her.“You sent your men to attack me.” She said softly and Tokyo nodded.“Yes.”“Why did you do that?”“You went to California. Did you think I would never find out?” She asked. Clara furrowed her brows and sat up.“It's my kids’ tenth birthday, I couldn't miss it.” “Every bad action you take has consequences.” Tok
“Clara.” Kaylen called but she didn't respond. She was lost in thought.“Clara?” Kaylee called and slowly tapped her hand, she snapped out of her thoughts and looked at them.“Yeah, what?” She asked.“We asked you if you could tell us anything. You looked a little bit lost.” Kaylen said, she slowly nodded.“Yeah, there isn't much to say. We all lived in Australia, and Dexter and I raised you. Rita named both of you but you never met her, she died when you both were still babies. Tokyo was your friend and I worked for an organization, you both grew up in the building.” Clara explained and zipped her drink a little.“Oh.” Kaylee muttered.“If Tokyo was my friend why did you kill her?” Kaylen asked.“She is so annoying. I couldn't stand her anymore.” Clara chuckled. Her kids stared at her in disbelief and she smiled at them.“There is more to it, don't worry. I don't just kill everyone I find annoying.” She replied and they both sighed in relief.“Not all though.” She added and chuckled
“For fuck’s sake how hard is it to put a bullet in a fucking head?!” Clara yelled and her kids flinched.“If you are busy, we can just come back.” Kaylee said.“What? No. I am not busy, this is the perfect time.” Clara said with a smile. One of her men walked to her and bowed. Clara sighed before turning to him.“Just leave. All of you.” She ordered.“Yes, ma’am.” He replied and headed out with the rest of the men.“What… What about the man they shot?” Kaylee stuttered.“Oh, don't worry about that.”“So why are you guys here?” Clara asked.“Oh, Kaylen wanted to see you.” Kaylee replied. Clara looked at Kaylen and gave him a questioning look.“Right. I… I wanted to apologize for last night. I am sorry.” Kaylen apologized. Clara was surprised he apologized, she was expecting something else. Something mean from him.“Did Xavier make you do this?” She asked.“No.” Kaylen replied and looked at Kaylee, he was confused. “It's because you are so stubborn and arrogant, you don't always feel
THE NEXT DAY Kaylen walked out of his room and paused when he saw his father pacing the hallway. He looked lost in thought, he didn't notice Kaylen’s presence.“Dad?” Kaylen called. Xavier paused and looked up at him.“Oh, hey Kaylen.” He replied. Kaylen raised his brows and slowly walked to him.“What are you doing?”“Waiting for Kaylee. I need to apologize.” He replied. Kaylen realized he was pacing in front of Kaylee’s room.“Oh, she left very early this morning. It's the weekend remember? She is always busy with shoots on weekends.” “Oh, I forgot about that.” Xavier muttered and ran his hand through his hair.“I… I will head there. Do you know where her shoot is being held?” Xavier asked.“Dad, stop bothering yourself. It's Kaylee, your sweet girl. She is not mad at you.” Kaylen assured him but he wasn't relieved. He really needed to apologize to her, he didn't know his father was going to hit her.“It wasn't you that hit her, it was Grandpa. Stop worrying too much.” Xavier nod
