{Can I kiss you?}

“That was the longest hour of my life” Rachel commented immediately they step out of the detention room.

“I know, right “Kenny sighed.

Lucas left the school premises already. There are still two students in the detention room given an extra one hour for violating one of the rules.

“Mrs. Two face is definitely a witch.She didn’t even sleep and when I finally thought she was dozing off, her eyes shot open back as she continued watching us like a hawk,” Rachel said.

“Giving us punishment is far much better than this. I prefer to wash toilets or sweep the school’s compound than be in that hell-called detention room for an hour “Kenny also said.

“Yeah me too”

“You are leaving now?”Kenny asked her.

“Immediately my mom gets here. She is so going to scold me when I get home. What about you ?”

“I will just stay with you here till your mom come over to pick you”

“Oh thanks”

Am awkward silence sets in.

“I don’t think I have your number “he broke the silence.

Rachel rolled her eyes.”You don’t “

“Can I have it?”He requested.

“Erm sure,” She said collecting his phone and punching her number in. When she is done, she gave him back his phone.

Her mom arrived some minutes later and Rachel entered the car waving at Kenny.

“Who is that?”Her mom asked after leaving the school’s premises.

“My classmate” She simply answered and her mom nods.

“When we get home, you are going to explain to your dad why you got detention on your first week of school”

Rachel's eyes widened.”Dad is back?”

“Oh no! I called him”

“But mom.....”Rachel mumbled.

“Save the explanation for your dad”

“Am so in for it” Rachel said to herself.

{NEXT DAY<Wednesday}

“Rachel, you are overreacting” Nana commented.

“Am not!it just so annoying...I mean why collect my number if he is not going to call or text” Rachel said almost angrily.

“Maybe He is busy or something?”Nana shrugged.

“Busy doing what!? and why are you even on his side”

“Am not on anyone’s side. you clearly said it yourself that you don’t like him so why are you angry he didn’t call or text you after collecting your number beside it just yesterday”

“It just that...he made me waste my time giving him my number. he is clearly not interested in me” Rachel said sadly.

“And why do you care if he is interested in you or not? Are you ready to have a boyfriend now?”

“Uhm...yes I guess”

Nana stared at Rachel unbelievably and crossed her arms.

“Really?!..what happened to books before boys? “

“Things do change okay? and besides, I want to know how it feels like to have a boyfriend “

“Rachel, are you sure you are okay? You still have a long way to go .you have two more years to finish high school. From high school, you are going to college and you want to jeopardize that by having a boy fry”

“Boyfriend “Rachel corrected drily.

“I can call it whatever I want! And am very sure you are not the Rachel I know ...you are someone else .you can talk to me when you get back to your senses” Nana said and made to leave but on a second thought, she turns back and said;” And p.s if you are going to have a boyfriend this year or the next, we will officially become enemies”

And with that, Nana exit the changing room.

The day is Wednesday, the students' best weekday. the day is mainly for different partakes of sports and lectures takes place later in the afternoon.

Nana and Rachel have gone to the changing room to change Into their sportswear but Rachel couldn’t stop talking about how Kelly didn’t call or text her after collecting her number the previous day.

Lucas was about going to meet the football coach to allow him to join the football team.

He has always been a lover of football but fear won’t let him join.

When he was in middle school, he usually plays with his best friend then, Naomi.

Yeah, she is a girl and they bonded well. She is the only person that he feels comfortable with. He was 15 when he met her. She was, fortunately, his neighbor and they became friends when her mom invited him and his mom for dinner.

Naomi is the feisty kind of girl. She is practically a tomboy. Always in baggy trousers and polos.

She loves playing football and she is really good. She usually plays with Lucas then.

He was devastated when she announced her dad got transferred and they have to move. Saying goodbye was one of the toughest things ever but he got no choice.

Ever since then, he doesn’t have anybody to play football with again.

He is going to join now and he is actually really nervous.

“And where is biggie off to?”It one of the rascal triplet, Danny.

Lucas chooses to ignore but Jose and Kingsley quickly blocked his way.

He tried to get past them but Danny hit his shoulder hardly making him stagger back but he didn’t fall.

“What do you want?”He asked almost angrily.

“Ooh, you want to fight us?”Jose chuckled facing him.

“Just leave me alone and let me pass, “Lucas said.

“And if we don’t?”Kingsley smirked.

Lucas clenched his fist feeling the urge to blow them across the face.

“Then am going to smack you three chipmunks really hard across the face” A girly voice said and they all turned to see Nana.

She was just coming back from the changing room. She is angry with Rachel already and now this.

She just got angry when she saw Lucas acting timid in front of the rascal triplets again.

“This doesn’t concern you little girl” Danny stated.

“Oh, you are right! it doesn’t concern me. I just feel sorry for you three. You are really jobless you know. Your grades are always F ..your highest is an E. Seeing you makes me wonder what you are friends for when you can’t sit and talk about how you are going to read and pass. You shouldn’t have bothered coming to school again when your dry head can’t grab anything the teachers teach. All you do is bully students. Are you cursed or something. oh sorry..scratch that, I meant to say, who cursed you ?”

Jose and the others raised their fists angrily.

Nana laughed “You are dumber than I imagined. you really want to beat me .please I am pleading with you, do so and get a lifetime detention ...oh what am I even saying ...I mean get expelled or arrested at most ..,”

She faced Lucas “And you !, You let them bully you again, and am going to cut off your balls and fry it then feed it to the students of Redwood, “Nana said and made to leave but she turned, eyeing the three boys and then grabbed Lucas hand and walked away with him.

The students cheered as the guys played football. Lucas already joined and he is doing okay but not so good tho.

Luckily for him, the rascal triplets aren’t among the football team. They play basketball.

Nana is with the cheerleaders practicing. Alicia is their leader which is really frustrating for Nana.

Rachel on her part is seated with the other students who came to watch the guys play.

Most of them are girls and it a good opportunity to drool over cute guys.

The top Cute guys in redwood high school are on the football team.

Both grades 10,11 and 12 practice together.

Rachel sight Kelly playing and he smiled and waved when he saw her but she ignored him taking her eyes away.

A guy joined her and she immediately recognizes him. he was also practicing with them earlier but the coach dismissed him to go and rest.

His name is Jerry. A senior actually.12th-grade student.

He is like the hottest guy in the school. curly brown hair, blue sparkly eyes, and small lips that got girls drooling.

“You are Rachel right?”He started lopsidedly.

“You know my name” she simply said.

“Of course. You won the inter-schools debate last year “He said and she nods.

She was still in middle school then.

“You were practically sweating at the final stage” He chuckled.

“Yeah ..yeah” She laughed” I was actually scared I would lose”

“But you surprised us instead and won” Jerry commented smiling.

She smiled back wondering why he was interacting with her.

“So on our last meeting in our book club .., we agreed to have you as a member,” He said and she arched her brows confusedly and she widened her eyes when realization dawned on her.

“Wait ....you mean the reading club?”

“Yeah”

“But I thought it only for Grade 11&12 and it for super brilliant students,” She said.

REDWOOD high school designed a room for special students to read and catch up with school works. these students are mostly chosen for any competition be it a quiz, debates, etc.

It actually for just Grade 12 students but then last two years, the school decided to let Grade 11 students join.

“We know that and you are super brilliant too. Wouldn’t hurt to have you as a member. Think about it okay” He said and she nods about bursting into excitement.

He stands up and taps her shoulder. He bumped into Kelly who was heading to Rachel’s seat.

Rachel sight Kelly and her eyes drifted to the field and notice they are still playing.

Guess Kelly left the game.

He sat beside her.”Hey”

She remained quiet.

“What was Jerry discussing with you?”He asked.

“None of your business”

“Yeah, right !”He nods.

She said nothing.”So can we talk?”He asked.

“About what?”

He looks around and he grabs her hand.

“Hey, let me go,” She said trying to free her hand tho she loves the feel of his hands on hers.

He ignored her and dragged her away from the field and into an empty classroom. The students are all out for sports after all.

“What is it?”She asked folding her arms.

“What up with you ?”

“Nothing!”

“See am sorry for not texting you yesterday. I was really busy and ...”

“Why are you telling me this?”She interrupted.

“I thought you are angry because of that”

“Why do you think I would be ?”

“Oh, you are not?”

“Am not!”She lied.

“Oh,” he uttered in disappointment.

“Yeah!”She said and made to leave the classroom but he drags her back making them face each other.

They both stare at each other and she blinks feeling awkward.

“Rachel...” he called softly.

“Uhm..”

“I don’t know what wrong with me ...but ...I don’t know this might sound crazy but....” he stuttered staring intently at her and his eyes moved to her lips that were partly opened.

“What is it..?”She said almost silently feeling really awkward.

“Can ......can I kiss you?”
